In the 6th command, make sure theres a space between the '777' and '/data/local/tmp/misc_version'
They're not suppose to be stuck together

[Q] Rooting Unbranded Desire HELP!!!

Hi, everyone i am new to android hope to get into it a bit though and learn some new stuff
Before i begin i hope i have posted this thread in the right place.
First of all i had a locked htc desire to orange i have now debranded it using the froyo 2.2 generic rom and unlocked it but i cant seem to root it with unrEVOked 3.3.2.
When i run unrEVOked it says "firmware is too new" although i thought it worked with android 2.2 ?
I am currenlty running this rom "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed" and my HBOOT version is 0.93 and i also have the S-LCD screen.
Could anybody try explain why this isnt working for me ?
Thanks.
What version of unrEVOked are you using? I rooted that version with no issues using 3.31

Heres the questions,
Will i need to downgrade to 1.32 in order to use the 2.3 ruu's available on the forums
or
Can i simply use the available ruu to upgrade my phone to 2.3 with out having to downgrade first?
Any help would be great.
ps. I have not recieved the 2.3 ota yet. have checked every day through the settings, have also done the whole manual check in as well *#*#2432546#*#*

hi boy!!!
I estimate that you have specifically android 2.2.1...right?
i hope that your software version is adapted for your carrier.... and is not a WEE ruu... its normal... my DHD by default was been 1.33
u can try via htc sync and click in upgrade button and pray for it to work....
i know that some people was update succesfully his DHD with it...
or try to do it with the XDA style, lol.....(because for downgrade it directly from a official ru downloaded it´s impossible)
1-downgrading...(necessary)
2-rooting...(necessary)
3-install rom manager & CWM recovery (necessary)
4-eng-soff
5-radio s-off
6-cid-111111 (super-cid)
here there is information about it:

feel free to post your doubts here mate,,,

If your phone is unlocked and running a stock rom then you can use the RUU to upgrade.

[Q] Ginger break for 2.3.3 Desire HD

Hello,
It's been ages since I started trying to root my DHD. All over the net they say it is just one click root....does not seem to work for me though . I follow all steps. Tried GingerBreak for about 4 times now and it goes on and on...more than 20 mins the last time. But no reboot or nothing.
It'd be great if some one that has succeeded in rooting the DHD can let me know how it's done with ALL the requirements.
Should i delete all my personal data from the SD card for this to work?
Thanks!
Ginger break for 2.3.3 Desire HD
Gingerbreak...don't work...il U want root your devive, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233
thanks for this...it's quite a long process...has this worked for you.
I really don't understand why we need to downgrade something.
I tried the temproot thing and did not work
Edit: How do I get Buuf icons in the notification bar as well???
See my screenshot attached.
At the moment I think the method works with Froyo .. .. so you must downgrade your version .. it works very well for me...
Hi, I have a DHD and I had to downgrade (loose Ginger and get Froyo again) also to obtain root.
Then, you can upgrade again to a custom ROM with Gingerbread.

[Q] How to know if my phone "shipped" with Gingerbread

I am interested in unlocking my Orange branded Desire HD. The AMT looks helpful but I need to downgrade to 1.32. I found some instructions for this but the disclaimer at the top bothers me.
DO NOT USE THIS IF YOUR PHONE CAME WITH GINGERBREAD.

(it bricks the phone if your phone came pre-installed). Now I have two issues with this:
1) I did not care about android when I got it in February 2011 (the date probably means NOT gingerbread)
2) I sent it back to HTC in December 2011 because the GPS and proximity sensor were faulty. It came back working and the job sheet said something like the circuit board had been replaced, but like a n00b I could not find it when I searched when I realised how important it might be.
It came back with the same IMEI, if that helps.
So here is the question:
How can I tell if my Desire HD is a "shipped gingerbread" device.
I have root, ENG S-OFF, know how to run adb and fastboot but not much more than that.
I Guess Ur Using The Froyo Android 2.2 U Can Go To Settings,About Phone and check android version if its 2.2 then its froyo if 2.3 its gingerbread but in my opinion its froyo since you've routed it etc
Yes, sorry, I meant to say I am on Absolution 3.6, which is gingerbread, but what I'm running now doesn't tell me whether I'll be bricked if I downgrade.
i didnt get why u want to downgrade and downgrade to what?
As I say...

Oh I Get It You Can Do It Because u rooted ur phone and installed a custom rom si ur phone came with froyo my friend so u can procced to downgrading hope that i helped you
So you are saying you can't root the gingerbread Desire HDs?
No Cz Htc Have Made A Security For The gingerbread update for the dhd so it cant be rooted u will have to downgrade it to froyo to gain root
1) no need to go.through all this trouble. You are allready sim unlocked. All the rooting methods used gfree Wichita along with soff gives you simunlock aswell
2) GB. Is rootable using ace hack kit no need to downgrade
Edit I should add. Their is no.need to downgrade unless your phone is on the newer sense 3.0

[Q] HTC Desire Z will not update to 2.3.3

Hello,
After my first HTC Desire Z broke i got a new one (second hand) yesterday. The phone was not used for a long time and still was running Android 2.2, for some reason i do not get the over-the-air update to 2.3.3 it simply tells me there are no updates available. After browsing some forums i see many links to htcdev.com where the update should be available for download... well it is not there anymore..
Has/had anyone the same problem and does anyone know how i can get my phone to Android 2.3.3?
Thanks in advance!
tijn
Current versions:
Android 2.2
Build: 1.34.405.5
I think it's better to root the phone, not update, and u don't have to downgrade for rooting. Think about root instead
Thanks for your quick reply, i thought about rooting the phone but i'd rather have it with the stock firmware. I'm affraid i might break it somehow.
So my original question still stands
