Hi All...
My 1st post,, a shame it is about a problem.
Anyway, after examining the 4 WM6 versions currently available I went for the Dutty upgrade.
I followed the Hermes guide to the letter, & EVERYTHING seems to have updated perfectly.
Including my radio firmware being 1.41 now.... WM6 seems to be running like a dream aw well.
However, when i go to connect to my local wifi router, despite it SEEING the ssid, & signal strength & saying it is available etc.... It even starts to initiate.... (my tytn picking up the SSID & channel num etc. ) But it fails to connect (i.e. getting an IP address) & throws up a timeout error.
BTW, my wifi zone has NO security applied to make it easy to connect to - ALL my home PC's etc are all connected & working fine.
Before i upgraded (older radio firmware & WM5) the tytn DID connect.
Strangely enough - Sitting in another room, my Tytn can find another open Wifi router from my neighbour - who also has no security.... when i select this router - the Tytn DOES CONNECT!!! - & I can brouse the net via HIT Wifi - So it does work?????
So what could it be? - something to do with the radio firmware? WM6 maybe? or something subtle with my router settings that didn't pose a problem before, but do now??? - My Router is a D-Link DI-524 - And has been perfect & trouble free for all devices connecting to it for nearly a year.
Anyone have any ideas?
Cheers

Reset the D-Link, I had A D-Link and had simmilar problems with my notebooks, a simple reset of both devices would solve the problem, I now use a NetGear 802.11g router with no problems ever.
Interestingly, I've just downgraded the Radio Firmware from the 1.41 to 1.40 & It does now want to connect... but still a bit hit & miss.....
As i said above, before any of the upgrades, the Wifi DID work & connect quickly... so this is suggesting that it is the newer Radio Roms that is causing the incompatibility.
Dutty's WM6 is FAB!! - I recommend it highly - In fact more so than the Black 2.5!!!

Find out what channel and frequency youre neigbours router is and switch youre D-Link to those specs. Basiclly try conecting youre device to it and monitor what channel and frequency it connects to.
After installing the Froyo update yesterday I seem to be having troubles with my WiFi connection. The connection is being dropped after a half an hour or so and I'm unable to reconnect at that time. The Desire just keeps connecting and disconnecting to my network.
I need to reset my router in order to re-establish the connection but it gets dropped again after a half an hour.
I did not experience these problems on the previous version, I did however experience something like it when I connected my PS3 to the router via WiFi in the past. After I done that I wasn't able to connect on my laptop. But I switched to a cable for the PS3 after that anyway.
Is it possible that something on the Desire triggers an overload in the router that causes it to malfunction? I'm unable to connect with my laptop when the connection is dropped on the Desire as well.
It's a Belkin f5d7632-4, which is actually a modem-router, but after disabling the DHCP server it functions fine as a wireless router.
Thank you in advance for any ideas.
If I can't find a solution I think I have to get a new wireless router, I can't go without WiFi on my Desire at home!
If that's the case, advice for a new wireless router is welcome as well. Please post the brand and type and if it's functioning fine with the new Froyo for you.
I have the same issue. I went from standard, unbranded 2.1 to OTA 2.2 like a good citizen, but now it won't connect to my belkin wirless N router, but it DOES connect to my SKY netgear router.
What's the deal?
Yes, I've spotted some more Belkin N1 users on (the dutch website) Tweakers.net with the same problem.
I retain a good connection for about half an hour. They seem to be having the same problem right from the start.
I have a similar problem with a BT HomHub 2.0 but it drops the WiFi randomly however I do not reset the router just turn the WiFi Off and On on the phone and the Desire reconnects. My Desire will also change which SSID its connected too, i.e. from my own SSID to BT Fon or BT Openzone (I have them both turned on in my Home Hub) again to get back to my own SSID I have to stop and restart the WiFi on the phone, simply asking it to move back to my own SSID doesnt work.
Just had a call with HTC Netherlands and they advised me to try it on a different network/router and/or do a factory reset to a clean 2.2.
Has anyone tried the factory reset? I doubt that will do any good. A different router would seem to work according to Jammy1 (and I didn't expect otherwise).
Apparently something killed the compatibility between Belkin routers and Android 2.2 ?!
do you guys have the Bluetooth turned on?I realised when both the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on at the same time, the signals tend to clash thereby resulting to connection loss. Though,I experienced this on another android device (a tablet:Archos 5 AIT) especially when a major update occurs.Still waiting for my new Desire.
Random drops also on Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato firmware...

No Bluetooth here. Never even used it.
Try turning off the bluetooth.
Bought myself a cheap Sitecom WiFi router and it works like a charm now. But I hope HTC wil fix this and other little bugs present in this version.
I had similar problems after upgrading to Froyo (custom rom) - the Wifi seemed to get connection then as soon as I tried to use it within the browser it dropped and tries to regain IP. After a bit of fiddling with settings I have found that
i) using channel 12 (12 and 13 are only available if router is set to America location) to avoid conflict with heavy wireless coverage in my area seems to help
ii) using WPA2 encryption seems to give a much stabler connection over WPA, although now and again it forgets the passkey data, even re-entering it fails, only solve was to turn wifi off then on for it to reconnect
still having this problem...
does anybody have some news on this ?
I can connect to my home router a linksys wrt600n with WPA2-PSK key but i cant connect to a belkin N1 with WPA2-PSK enabled.
I tried every setting on the belkin router, just cant get it to connet.
My device just keeps connecting and disconnecting, it gets an ip but cant connect...
What i haven't tried is setting a maual ip and see if it connects then.
If i set it to manual ip, it works.
Does anybody have some news on this ?
What channel is your router on? Read somewhere about it not liking anything over 11...
I've been having the same issue on my Desire and on HD2Android.
If a 2.1 ROM is loaded into either of my devices TKIP and AES work perfectly.
With 2.2 it only connects through my Marconi router and doesn't obtain an IP from my Belkin N1.
I don't think this is a device issue but rather a ROM/OS issue. After speaking with some Linux guys they seem to have the opinion that the driver on 2.2 doesn't resolve it's IP address with some routers. Especially higher end ones with added features like QoS ie Belkin/Linksys.

Yes that was my initial thought !
But my linksys is newer then my belkin and it has no problems connecting my phone.
The 2 wireless routers are configured the same.
On android 2.1 i had no problems.
is it possible to try and install the 2.1 wifi drivers on 2.2 ?
i had the same problem 2 months ago when i first got my Desire. worked at just about every damn wifi router but the one in my house.
did some reading, no one had an answer. just seemed that it worked on some and not on others. so, i went out to the store and i picked up a Linksys after testing the linksys at the shop. my phone connected and had internet no problem. i thought, perfect, i'll take it.
brought it home, same problem. wifi connects and no internet. no setting would fix it. i brought it back to the store. and sure enough, we plugged that very router into their connection and my phone connected and worked. they obviously would not return the router because it works (and i live in a 3rd world country, forget about it).
so, **** if i could figure it out. i wound up using an older adsl/wifi router i had and no problems. but, i have a new linksys that is just sitting in a box...
its not your router, but the phone.
you can always sell the router on internet or the phone

I had contact with HTC Scandinavia and they also recommended a factory reset. But these guys haven't got a clue - they didn't even know this was a big problem after the froyo update. Weird when you think about it, I mean wifi is kind of a big thing for a smart phone.
But no, factory reset did NOT change a thing. And replying to other messages: this thing has nothing to do with what router you use. It seems totally random almost.
I found out that my desire often has this problem...after i connected it to internet (using wifi at home) everything is fine, but after a while i would not be able to connect to the internet anymore, but the wireless signal is just fine (full bar) this problem can be fixed if i turn on/off my wifi on my phone again....has anyone experiencing this kind of problem before?
ps. i am using LeeDrOiD version 2.1a rom
I have this issue. I'm on 2.10.405.2 Vodafone UK. Plus I have hboot 0.93 so I haven't managed to downgrade to stock.
Alright, so I've heavily tested this with a ton of bluetooth devices and 5 access points, both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz.
When I have both wifi and bluetooth on, with the device connected to both services (both a BT device and an AP) neither radio works. WiFi says connected, but doesn't load anything, can't ping out at all. Bluetooth will find the device, connect, and disconnect within a few seconds.
I tested the same devices but only using one radio at a time and all the BT devices stay connected with WiFi off, and all APs are connected and load data with BT off.
Does anyone know what's going on? I've suspected this to be an issue since 4.0, but it's still around in 5.0.1. It's persistent across ROMs and RUUs, so it can't be a rom issue. Currently I'm on Viper 4.6.1, S-off, SCID (although this happened before I S-Off'd as well)
Does anyone else experience this issue? Any potential fixes?
I run into something similar periodically...
My 5ghz wifi always works no matter what.
2.4ghz / bluetooth will work for 2-3 days... then it stops... no 2.4ghz SSIDs show up in wifi and no bluetooth device will connect... Even turning BT/Wifi/Airplane on or off in any combo. Only a reboot will fix it.
My friend also started having this issue.
I've been all over and no one has a solution. I use an android wear device, so bluetooth is necessary :/
Hey I got some problems with the WiFi connection, it connects but it says internet not available, although the wifi network is working in other devices. I tried doing a full wipe or flashing a kdz, but still have the same problem. Have u got any ideas to resolve this? Thanks
I'm having the same problem. I don't know if it's like this for the OP, but the hardware itself seems to work. It detects connections just fine, I can install wifi analyzer and it displays and measures all nearby connections no problem. However, when I try to connect to wifi, it says "saved. secured." It won't tether either. I've tried with multiple modems and routers, it just won't connect.
