[Q] Gingerbread - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When we we get gingerbread officaly or a gingerbread syndicate rom?

You will know when the latter will happen because the former will happen first.

Whoo! Haha.
I'm not really obsessed with them though. I just needed a good sig, and that's what it/they turned out to be.

And as usual, that means Sprint will be screwing it up for 2 months. Remember Galaxy S line in Europe had Froyo in November. Sprint just released it last month.
And Syndicate don't give ETAs. You should have EE03 ROM from ACS soon.

ASAP is ACS' ETA.

First rule of ACS ETA's....never ask for an ETA.

Second rule of ACS ETA's....We do not talk about ACS ETA's!

[Q] Cyanogenmod 8

I know this might be a really stupid question, but did they just skip cyanogenmod 8? All I see are 7 and 9, what is it?
8 was supposed to be honeycomb. But no source code was released for honeycomb. And cyanogenmod only build from source.
So it went strait to 9 basically.
CM8 is honeycomb but since the source was never released, it was skipped
Why was source code for honeycomb never released?

It actually was released when they released ICS, making it useless, and they said it was "not ready"
Because Google was always planning ice cream sandwich. The bridge between phone and tablet. So they just decided to wait until they released ice cream sandwich to release the source.
They knew all of us on xda would try and get honeycomb running on our phones but it wasn't designed for that at all so they held it back.
Google didn't want the code used in handsets as it was somewhat mashed together to get tablet functionalty. They didn't want that early code in the wild until it could be merged properly into the tree

So there is a legit ICS leak for the Sprint Epic 4g touch. I hope that we get one for our phone soon.

Came from evo 3d

sup peeps to make a long story short my 3d thought it could walk on water like Jesus did and come to find out it was a fail fml ........so sprint sent me a epic touch. Im knew to the whole Samsung galaxy s thing but I'm pretty sure I will get the hang of it specially with the Odin thing but my question is what's a good stable ROM with no bugs decent battery life and no lag? I wanna start this experience off right!!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Calkulin's ROM (Gingerbread version, not ICS) or Blazer ROM. Don't flash ICS ROMs as they have the potential to perma-brick your phone.
Don't listen to this guy he knows nothing. Flash the goodness rom for a great ics experience. Calk gb rom is great, his current ics build is stable but horrible battery life. Long story short flash slim n trim, the goodness, or cm9 just make sure you flash from gb el26 kernel with cwm and you have NO risk of brick at all.

Says the guy with 3 thanks and 62 posts. I worked in a Sprint store as a technician; trust me I know what I'm talking about. Yes, you can circumvent the issues by doing what you said (flashing a Gingerbread kernel), but one misstep and you're screwed. I said nothing wrong; this guy just got his phone and he said he's still trying to get the hang of things, so like I said, I don't recommend flashing an ICS ROM [right away].
Working for sprint doesn't mean you know shiz, people brick only if they don't follow directions

Pretty good. I've owned a LOT of phones since the Evo 4G (which is still one of if not my favorite). The Epic Touch is a solid phone and will chew and spit out anything you throw at it (especially high-end games like GTA 3, Shadowgun, Riptide, etc). The camera is amazing too. You're gonna have a blast with this thing. I'm actually buying an international GS3 and heading to Straight Talk though, so I'm selling my Sprint GNexus soon.
Alright fellas come on now this how you show a new guy what the epic touch family is about lol naw but seriously I understand where you both are coming from and I've seen product around here a lot so I know he wouldn't steer me wrong but I see where yall coming from and thanks

Nothing; when Sprint runs out of supply of a phone, the system offers other phones that are usually of the same tier or better (iPhone is an exception, will never be offered or repaired by Sprint). Some reps will be nice and give you a list of choices, but most of the time they'll tell you what they've chosen for you. It's really up to the manager.

I really wish people would do more research before saying such things. Yes, there is a chance of a brick, but it has been figured out now and some safe ICS options have been developed. Check out the Development thread and look at agat63 and sfhub's offerings at the very least.

Agreed, if people read and follow the instructions, including familiarizing themself with the How not to brick your E4GT thread (link below), then bricking becomes a lesser threat.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
Also to the OP, try out Blu Kuban if you're still looking for a good ROM.

What happended with the development?

Seems like new progress fell off a cliff a few weeks ago. No updates to CM9, CM10 or AOSP.
Are we waiting for a JB leak or is it time to move on to a GSIII?
They've been working on the kernel for both CM9 and CM10... We're also about to get official CyanogenMod. Chris41g is working hard on this...

You need to read more. There are nightlies for CM 10 and I believe for CM9 as well.
There is nothing more to add rom wise. Kernel is being developed and they are all working hard to solve some of the issues we all know about.

Um all I know is cm9 has been in alpha6 for ages and cm10 holding steady on beta 5.3. They are both from source...not ported... anyway jb hasnt really been leaked for us carrier yet.... It just went OTA on GS3s in europe a week or two ago and in korea itself just today actually... So probably not too long for here in the US if sprint etc get off their lazy bums... As for if it will come to the sgs2... That I have no idea... Try some cnet/android central rss feeds

Lets all pretend nightlies don't exist. Does anyone actually even run CM10 5.3? It was never touted to be "the stable build" or anything... You could call it a pre-nightly, or you could just say "this was the first nightly" and then it makes even less sense to be running it still. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the newest nightly x___x
