No reboot and Recovery fails because SDCard is empty - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so... I am officially dumb :/ I just had my brother ask me to restore his phone back to stock (It was rooted) and when I went to the normal restore menu in the phone's settings accidentally ticked "Clear SDCard" or something similar. I am now stuck in a bootloop and the phone cannot mount whatsoever to use recovery, i can access CM but cannot use any type of restores. When I use the built in menu option to use the phone as a storage device I can see that the SDCard is TOTALLY empty. Honestly I have no idea what to do from here besides chuck it at a wall and hand him $200... If any of you can help it would really help me and I would greatly appreciate it! Hell I'll even toss $10 over paypal if you can help!!
I think I need to get a full backup of the incredible's SDCard contents then manually place it back onto the SDCard... Anyone wanna zip it all up and upload it lol?
And yes. I am serious about that $10 paypal...

If you can get into CM, just go into Rom Manager and flash a recovery. Then you just put the zip of the rom you want on the SD card, reboot into recovery, and flash.

Are you saying that the SD isn't mounting properly?

MTCW. After you get your phone back up and running, it is a really good idea to do this:
1. Back up your stock rom after rooting.
2. Rename that backup to something like this:
STOCK ROM_NO-DELETE
3. Connect your phone to your computer via usb cable.
4. Copy your backup to your computer, just in case you wipe out your sd card
and need to do an emergency restore.
5. In the unfortunate case that #4 happens, you now have a copy of your stock
rom to move back to your sd card to flash.
I know this doesn't solve your current issue, but in the future, this can make your life in the flashing world a lot less stressful.

That would be great... but I cant get the phone to boot up.. nor can I make the SD mount to be able to use any CM recovery or restore features. I can use it as a mass storage device and thats it.

If you can plug in / access the sd card from your computer, make sure it is formatted FAT32, then use BrettApple's suggestion here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13742769&postcount=3

theres an option under advanced in CWM that will allow you to sync with your computer. i think its called mount SD and that will allow you to put a rom then just flash that and you are good

[Q] (Q) Please Help me HTC Desire keeps rebooting 10-15 seconds on turning on

Hey all XDA members
Im sorry to ask any of you this but please help me !!
I had no problems rooting my phone with unrevoked and just left it at that but knowing me i downloaded a app on android market place called... ROM MANAGER - clockworkmod or whatever .. it seemed ok i went to backup my phone to my sd card and it said i had 897mb of storage left ... so i thought great ill back it up now so i wont brick my phone and if i ever did i could back up it said it finished succesfully or what not turns off my phone then every time it boots i get telstra next G boot logo then after abit it re F$#cking starts.. excuse my french i can access recovery menu and even clockworksmod recovery tryed formating the cache and everything
ATM im paying for a brick per month and it just seems so easy to fix but im obviously mistaken .. I really dont know what to do i wanna send it to htc but dont know how they would respond if they found clockworkmod in the recovery menu I dont even care if i have to pay them just so i can get my desire back ...
FAQS that ive learnt about this issue so far
#1 it makes a bootloop because i didnt have enough storage on my sd card so im puting the blame atm with the guys at clockmod for not giving users a clear warning that if you dont have enough memorey it will cause a boot loop ... and they make you pay for the app ... go figure >.>
There is no one to blame but you, you should know what you are doing with a rooted phone. Also your paying argument is stupid, who pays for a app you don't know before trying the free alternative?
Now to your problem:
Pull the battery.
Hold VolDown+POWER.
Go to recovery.
Go to backup and restore.
Restore.
Find the file of your backup. (either a data and time or a name you gave)
Click it.
Wait till it's done.
Reboot system now.
In recovery use the trackpad to navigate and confirm and in hboot, i think, volume up and down to navigate and power to confirm.
If there is no backup file at step 6, wipe dalvik cache under advanced (also in recovery), reboot and see if that fixed it. If not do a full wipe in recovery, data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache under advanced. Keep in mind this will wipe everything of your phone. Sd card is not affected.
Thanks for the reply first off i know its my fault i program computers for a living and find it quite frustrating when i cant get a linux based phone to boot..
also to recovering the backup in clocksworkmod ... it didnt work, but it is probably corrupted from not being able to do a full backup of my phone.... if you or anyone else here who has a back on a htc desire please feel free to send me it
also to factory restore, formating cache still a no go im starting to lose hope already the phone hardware sense it fine its just the operating system thats bonkers
and finally i can understand you defending clocksmod and they have done a very good job but maybe next time they should warn us about this big bug thats in the backup process because this little piece of software has proberly bricked my phone from a tiny bug in the software
Well almost 900Mb is enough to back up your entire phone, unless you have a massif ext partition. So I doubt that is the problem but whatever.
If both the above steps didn't work (and you also clear dalvik cache) I suggest you just install a custom rom. If you don't know what you want or where to start, I suggest you start with Leedroid. If you have a ext partition on your sd card use the A2SD version, if you don't use NoA2SD version.
To install:
Download the rom.
Boot in to recovery.
Connect the phone to the pc.
Go to mounts and mount the sd as mass storage (or whatever it's called, should be the last option in the list if I remember correct)
Copy the rom to the sd. (not in any folder, just on the sd card)
Safely remove and unmount again.
Wipe data/factory rest, cache and dalvik again just to be sure.
Go to install zip form sd.
Chose zip form sd
Find the zip you just transferred and flash it.
Wait till it's done.
Reboot system. (this can take up to 10 minutes)
This should give you a booting phone again.

[Q] Help please. Everything wiped....

I was using boot manager to install a rom and I accidently wiped system and the rom didn't flash properly. Now I'm stuck in fastboot and can't mount my usb to transfer a rom to get back into my phone. All it does is power down or reboot into fastboot. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Searching for you... really hope we can get your phone working again
So you can not boot into recovery at all?
If you hold power plus volume down can you get to the bootloader?
have you removed your SD card & used a card reader?

Was just going to suggest that. I had a similar thing happen, and I just popped the SD card out, copied a ROM to it and then booted to hboot (vol down and power on) and selected recovery there. I then could re-wipe and flash the new rom.

If he can't get it to boot into recovery he'll have to try flashing a rom or new recovery in a pc36img.zip.
Thanks for the replies...I really appreciate the help. I can power down and get into the bootloader, but I can't choose recovery to get to my backups. It just loops to fast boot. When I click bootloader it tries to scan the pc36img, but fails...I'm guessing that it got erased. I don't have a card reader, but that's a good idea. I'll got to the store and pick one up and see if I can transfer the files I need to get my phone back on. I'll post back and let you guys know what happens. Thanks again for the help so far.
You just need to put the recovery file on the root of the sd card. Not everything until you see if it got erased.

Just bought the sd card reader and loaded back the recovery file. Looks like all my files on the sd card are still intact. I tried flashing HybridBeta.5...it flashed but kept going back to recovery when I tried to reboot. I'm gonna recover one of my backups and see how that works. Brb...
Once you flash into Recovery
Go to:
- Install zip from sdcard
- Choose zip from sdcard
- Scroll down to BootManager folder
- Select phoneRom and then click update.zip to get Phone Rom back
I have also flashed update.zip files from within rom1-4 when they were known good working installs and had them work as well.

[Q] HELP ME: I Wanted to flash ROM to do so, but now stuck at RECOVERY MODE.

I wanted to flash a new ROM for my Nexus, but unfortunately like a fool i did System Format and SDCard Format AND CASH FORMAT everything, without taking any back up. Please help me. My pc is not recognizing my phone to atleast put the ROM into SDCARD. Somewhere i read i need to MOUNT USB Storage by gount to Mount & Storage..but I dont see such option itself when i get there. Please help asap.
You could try using WugFresh's Galaxy Nexus Toolkit. Use it to push a stock ROM from the stock rom thread. Then tell it to boot into a temporary recovery and use the recovery to flash the rom you pushed to the device.

you will never be able to mount the sdcard as there isnt one.
you need to use adb push to push a rom to the phone, OR fastboot back to stock. there are plenty of threads on both.

Either Mount internal sd in recovery and hookup to your commuter and put the rom on the card. .. Then you could flash. ... Or get a mini sd and put a rom on it and insert it in your phone. ...

[Q] I have deleted the OS with cwm recovery and dont know how to get the OS back help

HELP!!!
I was trying to get all the files that are useless of off my sd card so i formated it in clockworkmod recovery and did not realize that i just deleted everything on the sdcard. And since i was just so clueless i went ahead and formated everything else that i could and then when i tried to reboot my device it takes me straight to the hboot menu. Is there any way i can get my OS back on to my device, i don't care about my files i just want the main OS back so i can use the phone again. And if you need any extra information please just ask in the comments and i will give you any info i can.
Thank You
If you can get to your recovery, go there. Then flash your ROM of choice.
how?

From the bootloader, choose recovery. If that is not an option, choose either fastboot or bootloader (whichever one is there), then choose recovery. If you don't have a ROM zip on your sdcard, mount the usb storage on your computer. Download the ROM zip on your pc, then place it on your sdcard. Unmount, then follow the instructions in the OP of your ROM thread, namely by flashing the zip. Then reboot into your new ROM.
i have clockworkmod recovery but im not sure how to flash the ROM because my sdcard has problems when i try to put files onto it.

If you have a bad sdcard, you can either transfer them to the internal 8gb memory (not sure, it's been awhile since I've messed with my inc), or you should really just get a new sdcard. You don't want a bad sdcard to start filling up with possibly corrupt app data and mess up the ROM.
i cant mount my sdcard with cwm recovery i can still get the device to connect to adb and fastboot

Note that internal 8gb memory does not mean the sdcard. Also, I'm not saying you can do this, because I can't remember. But if your sdcard is bad, you should replace it.
how do i know if the sdcard is bad though?
and how do i use the internal storage?
