I just realized that froyo stops rebooting with the newer kernels if I keep the GPS on, dunno where I read it or who wrote it but I laughed of it... now Im taking this seriouly, I just turn it off and the "never ending story" begans... (endless reboots) so... l1qu1d what could it be?

check your logs (dmesg and logcat) for kernel panics or crash logs.
One suggestion. If you use power control widget to turn GPS on and off try to remove widget from homescreen. Turn off GPS by menu>settings>.....
I had a similar problem with a data connection. Removing power control widget fixed that problem.
@n2rjt
ok ill use os monitor to export a log,
@Millence
Ok ill try
EDIT: Nope... still got the reboots.... ill try doing the same for wifi and data...

Flashing a 1.65 radio cured all my problems! and I still got data conection with latest kernel!
About time you switched radios. The 1.7x series were pretty bad. Although they use a bit less battery nothing seems to work right with them.
actually baterry consumption is reduced! At least in my case, cause I can finally turn of the freakin GPS!
i have some problems with gps : my mobile maps wont work.
gpstest sees some sats but doenst connect with them.
Maybe a 1.65 radio will make it work ?

Could be, remember GPS needs a clear look to the sky... mine is was really crappy on a cloudy day... but a radio change could help.

Which particular 1.65 radio have you installed? cause I tried 4 of them but I still haven't resolved the rebooting issue
If your GPS isn't working with your new ROM, then try this method. It has worked for me for every ROM I've used with a problem connecting to GPS. I've seen the problem posted in several ROM threads, and instead of posting it in each one and having it get lost in the hundreds of pages of posts, I figured I'd start a new one which might be searched for a little more easily.
- Open 'Settings' and go to 'Applications'. Choose 'Manage Applications'.
- Choose 'Running Apps'
- Find the 'Maps' app and open it. Click 'Force Stop' and choose 'Clear Data'.
- Go back to your app drawer and open 'Maps'. It will have you check off the disclaimers. Close it after you have done this.
- Open your 'Navigation' app and check off the disclaimers there. It should connect after that.
Like I said, this has worked for every ROM I've tried with a problem connecting to GPS. I don't know why it works, but it does.
tags: gps not working, gps won't connect, gps issue, broken GPS
Didn't solve my GPS issue...which is that it doesn't toggle on what so ever.
Each new nightly I flash, I have to push an old gps.vision.so in order to get my gps to toggle on and off again.
Thanks anyway.
edit: No app on the market will make my GPS work...That is the type of GPS problem that I and some others are having.
try install the gpxfix or gps status from the market.. work well for me..
Same here...this didnt help.
Also installing GPS status did not help either.
As discussed in the nightlies thread, Cyanogen presumeably updated a crucial library responsible, among other, for GPS functionality which requires the/a new radio.
This also could explain why some users while having identical devices to other users do have GPS while others dont. They simply did upgrade the radio already earlier while the ones which are stuck with a bon-working GPS didnt and are still on the original radio, an "old" one in regards to the prerequisites of the "new" library added to the build.
Makes sense?

Yep...this is 100% correct.
And for what its worth, I went a head and flashed the new radio again just too see if in fact it does fix the GPS and yes it does.
Back to the T-Mobile US OTA radio and the gps.vision.so from Nightly #4 or earlier.
not 100% correct, i have the new radio and still have the gps problem... i've seen at least one other person with the same.
But i'm using a Bell Desire Z, maybe thats why

Did you happen to use the app 'GPS Status' to check your gps after you upgraded? If not, what was the first gps application that you opened after you upgraded to CM7, if you can remember?
Scratch that....just reflashed the radio and nightly 13. Gps works a charm now! Thanks

Im on the stock ROM and have a problem. I think the GPS on these phones are messed up big time. Here is my problem.
stock rom with ota update and ota update radio= no GPS AT ALL it will just stick there blinking tryin to get a fixed signal but it wont! Happens in alll my GPS app not just maps.
So I downgraded my radio to the pre-ota one and GPS gets a fix but takes a minute or so.. after that I can leave the app and come back and itll refix itself within 5 seconds (what it should be normally).. So even downgraded I still have slight issues with gps.. plus for some reason if I loose signal for more than 5 mins on this radio it wont ever get a signal unless I reboot.
Im going to try your method but dont think itll work since my problem is not Maps specific.
EDIT: this seems to have worked, even on my the ota radio. I just dont understand why Maps would break GPS for all apps. Funny things is when something like this usually happens I clear app data but didnt do it here because it was all my GPS apps.
I'm glad it has worked for a couple people anyway. I don't know what the problem is that causes this, but it has worked on the ROMs I've flashed, so I figured it might be a good step to take before updating radios and things like that. Just in case the solution is as simple as just stopping Maps and clearing the data... If you have done more modification to your phone beyond just flashing ROMs, then this may not work for you since the problem may be bad radios or other issues. If you are just a ROM flasher without tweaking too much else, then this may solve your problemo.

I used to not have GPS issues either - european Desire Z btw - having said that, CM7 #14 breaks with that uuhm... tradtion. It's the first build giving me no GPS unless a new-ish (the 26.04 and 26.06 works) radio is flashed.
So wat is the new radio, I recently flashed a different radio but I'm not sure if its the latest radio out. Thx

It's very strange. To test it better download GPS test from Play Store. Try it with any ROM or Kernel. CM9, CM7, stock or MIUI.

thanks...i will try it at home.
i wounder that i could not find any improve for my gps.
at my "old" lg optimus speed, i could go in the "hidden menu" and change the gps server from the android , to the nokia server -> very fast gps fix.
is that possible at the xperia play.
but i see something strenge:
everytime, when i activate gos, it ask me, if i would connect to gps, it may coast some cash.
normaly this warning came 1 time, and it's it. but i saied over 40 times, "ok".
maybe anybody knows this bug?!
any solution?
still got GPS-Problems...
I got still problems with my GPS.
It will not navigate me.
When i go to any navigation system, it shows me, where i am (up to 100m from my real place).
But it wouldn't fix my place, where i am.
I tried a lot of rom's (also stock roms....with root and without...)diverent navigation systems....
Gps test shows me up to "0/3"Sattelites....don't know, what this means.
I think the gps modul works, because it can fix GPS (after some time) when i open the device(like i want to play) and put it in the window of my car (to the front..) but this is the only way, it works....
solutions? A friend of mine got also a xperia play and he get a fix in ~10 secounds....
plz help because i need GPS
Best regards
i have the same problem
here try flashing this in recovery its a gps fix that acquires signal from up to 12 satellites instead of just the bare minimum 4 or something like that. Ive been using and I get a location fix real fast and when I do a gps test I'm always using up to 9 never less than 7! Hope this can cure your problem. And if that does nothing for you try this: found it over in neo forum

Navigation is stuck on "Searching for GPS". Is there a fix to this?
I know there is a fix around the forum somewhere for it. You might want to give us some more info like what kernel/rom you are running. I am RasBeanJelly and franco.Kernel lastest of each and my GPS locks on in less then 10secs. More info about what you are running will help us out.

I recommend switching to a different ROM such as Codename Android. Some ROMS have a GPS problem like you are describing. The kernel has nothing to do with it. Hope I helped.
Its coming on all ROMS D:
Still getting same error even after trying CNA. I even went to GPS settings and checked "Internal GPS antinna" or something. But still getting same error. Could the phone be faulty?
Have you tried either of these?

Install GPS status from market and let it download agps data and point it towards the sky and see how that goes. If you see satellites and they lock, go back to maps; it should work now.
Some gnex came with faulty GPS module. I have two gnex and e first one I got had the problem and hasn't been fixed with several ROM, kernel and tools and GPS scripts.

I don't think it's a hardware problem because with previous version of maps it works! so I think it's a google maps problem.. but I don't know what to do to make maps work!
This is a Google problem, it's happened once before to a ton of android users, it may have come with an alert "unable to sign into account" (that's how mine was this morning, plus searching for GPS. All seems well now.
So I'm an avid fan of CoPilot. I'm able to go from point A to point B without data and using solely GPS. That said, since updating past CM 9, the GPS module has not liked to play nice with CoPilot! I have a video of what I'm talking about:
http://youtu.be/ZypwoUF8xvQ
If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. I do not want to go all the way back to ICS.
Is this experienced on one specific ROM, or is this on EVERY JB ROMs you have used? If not just swap a ROM and see what happens...

GPS has been wonky for me on all JB ROMs. You can try a program like GPS Test to clear GPS data. Works for me most of the time.

I agree with frosted. I've also been using GPS status. It allows you to download assisted GPS data and calibrate if needed. It results in much faster and better locks.

Never had a problem before JB roms. No need for any kind of data as I do not have data, and haven't for years. That's why I like this program...don't need data. I've been suggested this gps test program before and it had no effect.
It really baffles me why the GPS does what's shown in the youtube video. I thought it was coincidental until a second phone of mine did the exact same thing. Both are samsung epics. I've tried:
CM 10.1
AOKP 4.2.2
Pac Man latest (v22?)
All are the same.
Edit: GPS test sees some satellites, but never locks.
I'm on CM 10.1 and can not even FIND a GPS satellite let alone lock on it. I have tried all the GPS tests SNC fixes... NADA!! Clean ROM install also... Fixed permissions... Cleared everything... Uninstalled reinstalled... Never had issue before updating from Gingerbread!!

Our phone was never meant to go beyond GB. The fact that it has ICS and JB based roms that were never meant for it is amazing in it's own right. With that in mind, if something doesn't work right give it time and devs will find a fix.
I think I may have learned something. On the first boot, it seems to lock GPS just fine. No alternating like that video. I changed to Slim Bean rom, but I'm hesitant to reboot the device for risk of breaking my GPS. You guys think if it were to break in the future, wiping Dalvik Cache would work? I think I remember reading somewhere (on a different phone) that wiping dalvik cache was required to use a feature (which I believe was MMS). It's a stretch, I know.

I have a 3rd Epic that has this problem. I believe the GPS module might be fried, my friend. I upgraded two other Epics on the same upgrade path with no problems (well, until now).
@Dynamic - Yes, of course. What is done to this phone is simply amazing and has made it so I don't feel I need to upgrade. That, in its own right, is amazing. If the devs do not know that this could be a problem, well how are they going to fix it? I'm not selfish, just trying to help iron out all remaining problems. CoPilot is a great program, too!

Oh, no. I was just thinking I came off as spoiled. Felt I needed to clarify.
Didn't reboot the phone, but tried again to lock the satellites and got the same phenomenon. Wiping the Dalvik cache seems to fix the problem, but I had to re-install CoPilot.
So does that mean there's a problem with the way App Data is being stored?

I have, but CoPilot randomly works and randomly doesn't. I really couldn't tell you either way if it's fixed. It seems to be a problem exclusively with CoPilot, if other programs work.

I agree, I think CoPilot is the culprit. If it hasn't worked on any JB roms then it sounds like there's an incompatibility issue which I'm sure will be fixed upstream at some point.
So it took me a LONG time, but I FINALLY figured it out! I now have CoPilot working %100, though it sucks my battery (even when plugged in).
On first boot, it works fine, but things I noticed:
-When somebody calls, GPS starts doing this again:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZypwoUF8xvQ
-Rebooting doesn't fix the problem
-Wiping Dalvik and/or cache does not fix the problem.
So what has to be done is you have to go into apps, select the copilot app, clear cache, then exit to homescreen.
Turn off GPS and start up copilot
Go to the "GPS" setting in the menu and turn on GPS
GPS should lock all fine! No more of what happens above.
I mean, it's annoying, but CoPilot is WAY better than my standalone GPS.
