Carbon Fiber Ghost Armor - Thunderbolt Accessories

Hey everyone,
I just got my tbolt and went to visit ghost armor yesterday. I hadn't been to one since I got my EVO about a year ago, but they had a few new options for protective covering than before. They have the options of white or black carbon fiber, the normal clear (which I obviously got on the screen), and a type of matte covering. They won't put the matte on the screen, though, unless you really convince them to.
I got the black carbon fiber body protection with the clear screen protection for 44 dollars or so. Just wanted to share for those that may not be aware of the different options available.

That looks really nice, I just got something like that for my nook color, hope it turns out that nice.

I like! How does it handled the curved back? Does it come as a form-fitted sticker or does it stretch? Looks great but I kinda want the white fiber now.

gonna suck when the kickstand film starts peeling off :\

cant seem to find it online. they dont have a location close to me unfortunately. looks cool tho

Is this a rubber material like Zaggs?
I used a Zagg on an old phone and it worked well. . . however I left it in my car when I upgraded and found it 2 months later with the rubber cover warped.
I want something better than this plastic case though!
www.zagg.com

It's a pressed vinyl adhesive generally marketed as 3M DI NOC. It's easy to tell because it doesn't share the same reflective sheen as real carbon fiber.
It was kind of popular in the automotive industry because it's cheap, protective, waterproof, and conformed to corners pretty easily.
If you're looking for a generic sheet and are willing to cut it yourself, they're usually less than $10 for a square foot on eBay.

Great information! Thanks! (Awesome first post, btw)

what type of screen protector comes with that exactly?

I have rolls of it at work. It is a polyurethane. I always thought Zagg bought it from us and die-cut it. I see the instructions for the ghost armor say to use soapy water. I found that if you use a 50/50 mix of IPA and water, it works very well.

So uh, you paid $44 for a screen protector and a sticker that looks like, but is actually not... carbon fiber. And while looking like cf, it in actuality affords zero protection the second you drop it. Because regardless of what they call it. It's pretty much a cf sticker.
Did I get that about right?

you sir are correct. Lol...
I had originally custom made my own, that tbolt turned out defective :/
Got a replacement and have kept it nude. After its first battle scare I got myself a Seidio convert case. This is what I did to the skeletal piece.
This actual does offer protection.

I work for ZAGG. What exactly do you think we bought from you? Because I can tell you right now, we designed a proto-type roll of 100% REAL Carbon Fiber. I have it on my T-bolt, Xbox 360, ZAGGsparq, ZAGGmate, and a bunch of other things.

How are their screen protectors? I would like to get one, but want to get one that is hard and non-tacky.
The one I have from my hero is from Siedio and I cannot even tell its there, the feel is just like glass.

Normally I would agree with you. But imo the back is one of the worst aesthetic features of the xoom...really wish is was 1 piece aluminum as opposed to scratch-able plastic. And unless I'm mistaken these protectors can be removed, no?

wow, that's a bit too risky for me. i'm so anal about how my screen protectors cure that i couldn't chance it not coming out right and having it stuck on there forever.
Q: Is TechSkin removable after being installed?
A: Yes. Removing TechSkin from your device is easy. Just start from one corner and slowly peel back like a sticker.
Q: Does TechSkin leave residue after being removed?
A: No. The adhesive on TechSkin's patented film material leaves no residue after being removed. Your device will be non-sticky and as clean as before TechSkin was installed.
Order for carbon fiber skinomi and screen protector placed!!! much better solution than the 29.99 gel case and $20 screen protector from moto! In the heat of the moment when i added my second xoom for 25% off they ran out of the free black gels and i ordered a blue one instead, assuming it would still be free... Moto charged me for the blue one! the nerve of those effers after i spend $600 on a second xoom without contract! blue gel case is going back to pay for my new skinomi! the blue looked tacky anyway! Hope it gets here before i manage to do any damage to my shiny new toy when it gets here before 4:30pm tomorrow est!!!
nice. In for one. I have the same protector on my old viewsonic gtablet. cant beat the price especially with the 25%

Invisible Shield said the same thing and I had the one for the EVO 4G and it was sticky as heck once removed. I like the idea of having the phone feel as close as possible to the way it was designed, but to give up smoothness.
Looks good, will return the portfolio case when this arrives

got mine, applied it last night. it's very easy, and i've had the screen protector and carbon fiber skin for my 2 phones, and I knew it would be great.
you won't regret buying it!
I have removed a Zagg before and most of it came off with no residue. The residue that was left behind was similar to that of a gel style price tag and I took it off with tape.
i got mine and put it on last night. Went pretty easy, just gotta take your time and make sure it is right. Only major complaint I have is there was no piece to cover the very top edge... I don't know if it fell off before they packagednit and sent it to me or what... did anyone else come with a top edge?
I got mine and didnt end up using the edge pieces. I wish the fit was a little better and the screen protector still has some inprefections.
Can someone post some pictures of their xoom with the carbon fiber on it? I ordered mine yesterday, but the photos on the website look like renders.
Does anyone have an orange peel effect after applying the screen protector? If it was there initially, did it go away after it fully cured?
Thanks in advance
Only been on for 24hrs but mine has a slight orange peel affect. Not distracting at all but if I angle it just right in the light, it can be detected. I'm thinking this will probably go away, but if not i'm OK with that... also my fingers glide across smooth not tacky and rubbery...
Any pics of it installed?

The Stenheil. Get the Ultra-Crystal as well. The Olephobic isn't as clear where the Ultra-Crystal feels like it isn't even there and I believe gives it a smoother feeling than the glass.
The Ultra-fine is my favorite. The matte look cuts down on the glare and almost eliminates fingerprints and smudges.
I would post the link on Amazon, but new users can post links.
Anyway, just search for the SGP Ultra-fine.
Hope that helps.
I bought the SPG and this thing is the BOMB you can't tell it's even on the phone. And for 13.99 you can't go wrong. Great buy and excellent product.
I have the skinomi which is a wet apply, but for me its working great you cant tell its on there at all, the cutouts line up perfectly, and you get lifetime replacements..they are a good company to work with, and have used them on other devices before =)
I have the skinomi and was upset they didnt give a microfiber cloth and I couldnt find one at my house. I was mad, it was so hard to make sure the screen had no dust without it. All other protectors I have bought have one and they dont offer it in the package.
Also its already damaged from light use. My old invisible shields where 10 times more tough. In less than a week my $15 protector already has marks that I can actually feel and I dont abuse my phone at all.
How well does the ultra crystal fare against skin oil and smudges?

Atrix screen protector

I've been considering getting a screen protector for a while now. The problem I have is my hands sweat very badly (gross I know) and then the touch screen on my phone goes crazy from the water on the screen. I have never had this problem with any phone I've had before now. I think it is because the Atrix touch screen is more sensitive than any other phone I've had. I was wondering if a screen protector would fix this problem and what some good brands were to try. Thanks
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You should always have a screen protector on any smart device you care about. One grain of sand in your pocket can ruin your screen (and your day). That said....
A screen protector will likely NOT fix your problem, as water (sweat) registers as a capacative touch. For a screen protector to "fix" the registration of sweat, it would have to also "fix" the registration of a desired capacitive touch (finger, stylus, or otherwise).
The only manner in which a screen protector could help is if you could find a very hydrophobic one (the repells and beads water), though you would still need to soak up that water with your shirt or a handkerchief or something. I'm not sure they even sell these. Google is your friend, here. Use keywords hydrophobic and/or water-repellent. Good luck, my friend, and let us know if you find anything interesting!

I tried few of a kind and decided to go with Otterbox Defender case which has a transparent front panel.
Refurbished case is about $20-25 and as good as a new one.
No need for screen protector. No mess with applying one...
What if I put on an average screen protector and then sprayed it with some form of water repellent?

Water repellent spray wouldn't work because the screen protectors are vinyl or polyurethane and are not absorbent. Those hydrophobic sprays only work with an absorbent material like cloth or real leather.
Use car wax, something like the rain-x.

I have to disagree with the statement that you have to have a screen protector, we have gorilla glass! I have never had a protector and my screen looks great! As for this situation, a protector that has a little rubberized feel might work well. I would read reviews on Amazon and buy the one that people complain the most about it sticking!

FWIW, my wife has been w/o a screen protector since April and I've been with / without one on and off since June.
Still not a single scratch on either phone, however, without one the screen is too smooth, so I'm thinking of going back installing one.
Hope this helps...
I went without a screen protector for a few months. I took the phone outside and noticed TONS of very fine scratches. You could only see them in direct sunlight, but it bothered me enough that I got a screen protector shortly thereafter.
I was thinking to buy a Vikuiti ADQC27. Has anyone tried it?
Thanks
I have to second the rec for the Otterbox Defender case. Having the screen protector built in is pretty awesome and in my experience, it has withstood all kind of liquidy stuff on it and plenty of goopy stuff as well. Like those technical terms?
It hasn't hampered my touch screen through various roms with various sensitivities and my glowing review hasn't even hit all the protection benefits it gives.
Best part? I got mine for about $10 'used' on ebay and while the silicone part was a little loose, a quick email to Otterbox got me a free placement in the mail without any hassle.
I haven't used one myself, but if they make one for the Atrix and if it's what you are really looking for, Zagg stuff has made some of my friends really happy.
You should look into a Matte one where is almost smudge free
altho it looks slightly foggy and scratch easily, but its worth it
make sure u get like a few togehter on ebay so you have backup ones

Can you suggest any brand? Something like the GreatShield Ultra Anti-Glare (Matte)?
I have one on mine, steinheil (SGP), while the protector gets scratched its better than the screen getting scratched.
Can't really tell the SGP ultra crystal protector is on the screen either, other than the few scratches that are on the protector now. Comes with 2 in a package if you get them.
They have an oleophobic one that is suppose to be oil resistant, maybe that one might be ideal? The ultra fine is their matted one.
If you look at the product on their webpage the 'Select a Color' changes the type of protector they have (took me a min to find the different versions they had when I looked again).
Last while the corning glass is tough, with a vickers hardness of 622kgf/mm2 in the unstrengthened and 701 in the strengthened stuff is pretty impressive.
Spec sheet for the glass can be found from corning's site using a google search, made me curious to check it.
While pretty hard something as simple and common as sand can scratch it which has a vickers hardness of about 1000....
Keys, lighters and the like are unlikely to scratch it though as unless its hardened tool steel its hardness will likely be below 650, an edge on a tungsten ring could probably do the trick though.
Anyhow I keep one on my phone, though maybe not really necessary I'd rather have a scratched screen protector than see the glass get scratched.

Zagg and Skinomi are quite nice. I like the Skinomi on my tablet maybe even a bit better than the Zagg on the Atrix, but the difference is very minimal. I'd say the Skinomi may slide slightly better than the Zagg, but you're splitting hairs.
I agree with BeakHill. SGP is great except they scratch easier than Zagg. The Ultra crystal is so clear that they don't even have a cut out for the front camera. The Ultra fine is their matte model and it is good and smooth, the crystal is nicer IMO..
The problem with SGP is they spoil you to the other brands, and they are more expensive.
ive always put a total body skin on my phone in addition to a case

Screen Protector Help

I'm a new GS3 owner, and I know they have Gorilla Glass 2. Is a screen protector needed? Besides protection, what do they provide? Asking for some advice, any will be appreciated.
You sure do need a screen protector. I thought I was using my GS3 very carefully, yet somehow it got quite a few scratches. So, don't hesitate to spend a few bucks that will keep your expensive device in good shape.. :good:

Yes its needed, unless you want tiny little scratches from quartz in your pocket. Besides protection? If our screens didn't need protection nobody would use a screen "PROTECTOR" hence that big bold word.
Do any screen protectors reduce glare? & Are there any you guys would recommned?
I'm not a fan of screen protectors, but if I have to pick one, I think the Spigen curved one is the best I've seen so far.
I was not interested in wearing one, but recently got an Incipio Silicrylic case that comes with what seems to be a decent screen protector, so I decided to give it a try.
The quality seems good, but I'm afraid it will peel off because of the curvy screen. This might not be the case, as it is hanging well so far, but I notice something that resembles a frame along some corners (only noticeable if you look at it with good light in the right angle).
Let's see if I can stand it in the long run
So yeah, if I have to buy one, I would go for a curved one that covers most of the front glass.
Go for an Bullkin protector(fullscreen) or an glass one.
SGP curved is rubbish, what a waste of money have I done on those SGP ones.
Bullkin one is in the Mercury thread here from kms108

Never had such a phone, where i needed a screen protector. So i decided that i need one to protect from small scratches. I bough SGP curved. Of course it is very think and cover the whole screen, BUT i think it shows so much fingerprints and the quality is poor (leaves many scratches).
So now i am looking for fingerprint resistan protector that covers the whole screen (i thnik protection from small scratches is by default).
No screenprotector is fingerprint resistant. Only the matte versions have it a bit. Clear ones not.

Spg/SPIGEN makes very good screen protectors. I really like the glass like feel and doesn't have that rubber feel like zagg. Right now I have the zagg hd screen protector on my s3. But that's only cause the person who I traded my rezound for this s3 had it on previously. The zagg hd is alright. Not to rubber feel like the regular zagg. There are other companies out there that make great screen protectors just research on what you want and the feel.

XtremeGuard Spartan Tempered Glass Screen Protector

So extremeguard recently came out with their new tempered glass priced at $40 http://www.xtremeguard.com/LG-Google-Nexus-5-Screen-Protectors-p/lg-nexus-5-screen-protector.htm
If you use coupon code HUGE90OFF2 when you buy two or more it will be 90% off, so two screen protectors worth $80 will come down to $8 what a good price! Even if i don't own a nexus 5 just wanted to share with you guys ^^
Out of stock still.
Out of stock and also not by Xtremeguard. $39.99 before "discount"? That's a joke.
If you're in the US you can buy it for $6.99 all the time off of ebay. Yes, slightly more expensive than their 90% off group of 2, but just shows you the ridiculous price Xtremeguard is normally charging for a product that isn't even theirs.

Also, if anyone tried, how easy is it to peel off?
I'm using the xtremeguard one right now. Obviously didn't pay 40 bucks for it. Honestly it's my favorite accessory for my phone. The glass feels a bit beveled and it reminds me if the edged on the nexus 4, how they used to be so smooth. I'm sure all the tempered glass protectors feel like this but this is the one I have.

Hmm, interesting. The packaging was completely different for me. Yours looks like the actual packaging from the ebay page. Mine Also says USA126 on it, but it's some generic packaging with an iphone on the front. However, inside everything looks the same as what you got. The pad, protector, cloth, and that same blue sticker. I put on the protector yesterday and so far I do like it a lot. Also, I'm not sure if the sticker was meant for this, but instead of wiping it down with the alcohol pad, I used the sticker to pick up all of the dust before applying the protector and it worked extremely well.
Still out of stock. Might hit up that ebay screen protector.
Does the eBay protector cover side to side or is it rounded off the corners so cases don't pick it up. How's the adhesive on it? Any webbing? Does it stick fully? These eBay protectors aren't always the best. How about the oleophobic coating?

The edges appear to be rounded, they haven't picked up at all with my case. The adhesive is great, no webbing, and it adhered fully. I cleaned the phone VERY well, took off the backing from the screen protector, and gently placed it on the phone. I was surprised that I didn't have to press hard to make it seal, or do the binder clip thing that other people have talked about. I'm very happy with mine, and for $6 it's the best screen protector I have ever bought.
This makes me wish I hadn't bought my full price spigen glasTr. There's no way it's 4 times as good as this.
So far I'm happy with the 6 dollar one I bought. It came in wrong packaging, but the product itself seems fine. I use the nexus 4 replica case and it fits very well. I think I had a bit of spiderwebbing but I pressed on it with my finger and it went away. I did notice a very tiny speck of dust I must have must underneath but its not always visible even though I know where it is. There's seems to be a very small scratch on the bottom and top corner. I'm not sure if that's something underneath but again, it's hardly visible and it's not on the screen part so I don't mind.

It's not bad, I've only had it since May but so far no chips and fits great with both the slim armor and the acase superleggra . Fingerprints do show but they are easy to clean. I forget it's there, it's a ton better than any plastic screen protector and spigens customer support is great. When I installed the first one a corner didn't adhere, not sure if it was my fault but spigen sent me a new one free of charge.

Wow It was really kind of then to send you a replacement for free! Is the GLAS.tR case friendly? I've already ordered a Spigen Ultra Fit case from eBay, and it's on the way, I just wanna make sure that it's going to fit properly.

They now have them back in stock and you can use code Summer85 to get 85% off.
This brings it down to 6.00
Just used Mega90off2 and works! You need to add two items in the cart. I put in a dry install screen protector 5.99 and the spartan for 49.99. With 90% off, the order came to 5.60 shipped. For a screen protector AND tempered glass protector. Even if the tempered glass sucks like most do, I have a screen protector as back up lol.
