So, I have always used Audacity and Lame Mp3 to make ringtones. I would edit them and amp them, then export them as mp3's. They just sound like crap to me anymore, or they are way to quiet. Does anyone know of a tutorial, or a better way to create loud, hi-quality ringtones for the evo?
TIA,
Tee Jay
I use the free program MP3trim. A simple program and it also let's you boost the volume. I would be VERY careful with thus though, as I have seen many people blow the phone speaker

Awesome, I'll try that. Anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tee Jay

Cheers mate.. that worked...
If you really want to find best ringtones etc you should not limit the thread to HD only. The only reason to do that would be the acoustic differences between models speakers and "sounding boards". But I can assure, these differences are SO small

Tried it like 2 mins after they posted it up on twitter and it worked perfect. If there's any Fringe fans out there you may like the attached ringtone. I grabbed it from a rom I downloaded a while back and converted for use on WP7.

Was it sooooo much to ask for, that the phone come stock with an absolutely boring, non-personality ringtone?
Only problem I'm having is finding a converter to make them MWV
here you go , its 100% free and worked real well.
You can use (free) Microsoft Expression Encoder.

I tried this one but it isn't one for noob's ( I am that noob and I didn't understand a F*** of it )
Does the ringtone manager allow you to set your own alarm sounds / sms tones too?
No, only ringtones.
And you can only add new ringtones, not modify or delete existing.

Thx I'm gonna give it a try when I get home
Also, I think Microsoft Expression Encoder is free. You can convert.... almost anything to well... almost anything. Definitely to 48Khz WMA.
the ringtone it work.. well i added 5 personal ringtone
Just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone that think otherwise...if you add 5 ringtones through the XAP and then reload an additional 5 ringtones it won't replace the ringtones, you'll get the other 5 (or more) in addition. Don't know if anyone was curious, but I was so I experimented with it.
Seeing how MS blocked/demanded they remove their other hacks, maybe someone should put a backup location for this app, just in case.

It doesn't have to be 48khz. I've loaded a few 44.1khz wmas and Chris Walsh himself acknowledged that 44.1 khz works as well in the comments.
i was suprised to see the ringtone size limitation(300kb) implemented on the newer androids. i didnt see any posts from the smarter folks on a work around or even trying to remove all together (like on froyo for example). is this only important to me? i understand how to recompress an mp3 file to achive required size or use 1 of the available market apps to accomplish the goal. i just thought it was nice to add any old song out of the library on a wim(i would change my wifes ring 2 or 3 times ina given day depending on how much she annoyed me)
guess im wondering if i bothers anyone else or if anyones working on a fix?

there are some (music) apps on the play store that can process ringtones.
I use PowerAmp (unfortunately it's a paid one) and use it to set ringtones. If you have GoSMS, that app also sets ringtones.....hopefully this one helps. If you are talking about "Assigning Tones" among contacts, it's quite challenging.
EDIT: oh...and just observed that .WAV files do good as tones...

Use Ringdroid - create your own ringtone from existing library songs, and cut them down to 30 seconds or less - if your phone rings longer, you get charged for the call

so its an carrier things not an andriod? its nice not to have to edit songs in ringdroid just add straight from your music dir. maybe if i load a rogers based rom....
Interesting that AT&T would do this but it makes good business sense.
Not many people know how to edit songs to make ring tones so rather then learn they will pay AT&T for there 2$+ ringtones.
Glad Rogers does not do that. I just find it's hard to find a good song that starts off relatively loud for a ringtone. This is why many people edit and grab the middle or the chorus of the song.
I REALLY want a text tone that is a quote from the show workaholics...
When Blake buys the bear jacket and I want my tone to say "B*tch better bring my my honey!"
I know how to make the tones, I just dont know where to source the file to get that exact line.
Thanks in advance
Use adobe premiere or a similar program to cut the audio bit out delete video and export as audio

Have you ever been in a crowded noisy place, and someone tried to call you, but you couldn't hear you own phone? Here is a cute little ringtone than will set you apart. Its that classic really irritating car alarm sound. I recorded this myself, and converted it into a ogg file.
http://tvnservices.com/car_alarm_ogg.ogg
Here's a another you might like. It's from LMFAO.
