Camera click noise? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone have this happen? Is it normal I have a brand new 0004 evo rooted it with unrevoked heard the cam clicking during the process.
Some roms you tend to hear it more when you click on the camera app sounds like it's a focusing noise. Tried Cm 7 latest build and have the same thing happen. Camera works great nice photos even vids. Just wondering if it's normal and anyone else hear the same thing when you run the camera app thanks.
Not new to the forums just curious if anyone has the same thing going on. Hard to find any info on google about 0004 hardware evo's.

I hear that a lot on my phone too. Most on reboots, nothing too random. I don't really think anything of it. It sorta sounds like the aperture opening/closing.

Thanks man glad im not the only one I only seem to notice it more since I got the 0004 not on the older 0003 evo's. How's Cm 7 going for you I used the crap outta it noticed on there nightlys the cam app took a few seconds to pop up for me. Im using elite 3 at the moment swapped clocks and keyboards out and been loving it so far.

Its normal, its just the shutter opening and closing.

Rooted Incredible not as fast as stock?

Hey everybody, I have a curious question for everyone, have you ever compared your rooted phone to a stock Incredible? I'm just curious because my sister just got a new Incredible from Verizon and it just seemed a little snappier than my phone running CM 6.1 Anyone else ever experience this? Also her screen seemed a bit nicer, is there any chance I recieved an LCD model and she got an LED? How would I find this out? Thaks everybody.

How many apps does she have installed? Just wait a month when she has 20 or 20 so apps downloaded. And if it's still faster, your rooted, you have a custom rom, just overclock, and rip her apart on benchmark.
Haha, the funny thing is she actually has more apps installed than I do. I've never really overclocked my DINC either.

Damn, that's weird. And I only overclock if I'm running a benchmark, or using psx4droid, because nothing says speedy playstation games then 1.19Ghz.
And if it feels speedy then it probably is just the UI (sense) making the basic screens quick and snappy. Both of you download an app that uses alot of processing power (psx4droid) and see who's comes out on top.

Dunno bro.
In my experience with CM with the Droid 1, it's always been a quirks first performance second rom. If you go back to a stock rooted ROM it should be faster.
Just think I found out the opposite, I've had my Incredible since the first day of release, so I should have the AMOLED and she has the SLCD, so does anyone know if the SLCD has better quality than the AMOLED?
Better contrast on the amoleds.

The amoled is hardware version 0002 in settings and slcd is 0003.
Amoleds have a higher contrast ratio, so everything looks a little richer on amoled. However, the pixel arrangement is a little different, so text should look a little clearer on the slcd display.
Its a trade off; I'd go for the amoled if I had a choice.

It may not be the app count that matters as much as the type of apps.. And have you ever changed kernels when you switched to cm6?
Last time I was running Cm 6.1 I had Invisibleks #18
Its a number of things. A huge dalvik cache from regular use, browser history, app cache, lots of gmail, text messages, ****ty apps with memory leaks, album thumbs, sync schedules, etc. Also an odexed phone optimizes an app's library making it slightly snappier.
ok, well invisa-whatever(can never remember its name???) is a "special" kernel(sorry if your its dev and reading this), apps arent gona kill you that much... if you running slower rooted and on a dif rom then chances are its your kernel... most roms run faster than the stock. OC'd phone have a tenancy to kill battery very quickly, and the inc already has bad batt life(only thing I dont like about it) so I would suggest flashing a dif kenrel and possibly a dif rom... find a rom w/ sense that you like and ziggy is where its at... if you can find a asop kenrel by him(there are a few i think) then that would likely be your best bet for non sense kernels. His kernels are usually very snappy and can be OC'd if you really want, not to mention the batt life is amazing by comparison. I hate to sound like a ziggy fan boy but it really is the best kernel set I have ever used.

Advantages of Gingerbread over Froyo?

So I was wondering if anyone could lie out a few points of the differences or advantages between these 2 versions?
I've noticed a lot of GB ROM's are slower and a bit more "heavy" but that may just be due to them just coming out and still having a lot of work to be done with them to optimize them for speed and battery life.
As of now I'm perfectly happy with Froyo and see no reason to switch, but still would like to know what advantages Gingerbread brings to the table.
You need to try cm7.
HTC DINC
CyanogenMod 7
Invisiblekk Latest
11.19 Radio
ADW Launcher EX
With Gingerbread your screen has that awesome on/off animation.
I know gingerbread is supposed to have built-in VOIP calling with Google Voice. Does that work with CM7? If that did, I could totally reduce my calling plan!

hah agreed, I guess there isn't a whole lot significant about the gingerbread release, I may be sticking with Froyo for a while if that's the case.
Also I've actually tried out CM7 before (several weeks ago) when it was very first released.
The screen on/off was pretty cool for the first day or so, but it started to bug me after a while and I kinda wished there was a way to disable it.
The VOIP calling with google voice has been available on the incredible for a while now, or at least I thought it had been. I never used it because of what a pain it is to switch back off of google voice, not to mention you are required to have a 3G connection or else you're out of luck and your phone is useless.
There are a lot of optimizations made to the whole android framework form what I gathered reading the android dev blog. They were targetting UI responsiveness which is definitely an issue in android as compared to iOS. I know that all of that is definitely better from my brief play with CM7 but I think it still has a long way to go to be as good as I want it to be. I also kind of like the orange glow that appears when you scroll lists, its a subtle but nice improvement.

I'm not sure how GB roms could feel heavier/slower, especially with CM7. I'd agree with you if you were talking about sense because its a bit bloated.
I'd suggest try CM7 again, RC2 with Chad's latest 37.2 kernel. Give it time to sync up with Google then play around with it. I'm sure you wont be disappointed. Unless you are a super sense fan
P.S. you can turn off the screen animation in CM settings. In the display menu.

GB is more efficient. I haven't heard that it is slower from anyone except you.
To me Gingerbread tastes better than Froyo
Ill second that

Alright I guess I'll be giving CM7 another go, cheers for the feedback.
Only reason why I haven't tried CM7 is no 720p recording, not complaining just stating. Maybe im being a stickler but I like to have all options on the roms I run.
I honestly have noticed any differences in speed or responsiveness. I have tried a few gingerbread roms not sure if its because they are in early stages or not, but so far it doesn't live up to the hype in my book.
If I am posting this, I'm probably pooping.
Is it just me or does CM7 have crazy good sound quality. And the bass is extremely good as well, used dsp manager to boost base and it sounds as close as I have heard to bose (but still not as good as the great bose)
There are some small things that have bothered me with Gingerbread... for example I miss the sense Camera.apk, and of course 720p. But I went back to things such as Sense and MIUI, and I couldn't last 24 hours on them. I was originally between Evervolv and OMGB... then I stuck with OMFGB. CM7 RC2.5 is what I'm running now, and may I say it's pretty amazing. But I am gonna have to try out the new OMGB 1.1.0 build tomorrow though
I guess it's just the overall feel of Gingerbread. Oh, and optimization and web browsing is quite a bit faster I have noticed.'

Are you saying the built in phone speaker sounds like BOSE? That I would believe
Anyway is the sound quality via BT and headphone jack actually better? This would be something that might interest me.
I found CM7 to work very well, even better than SkyRaider IMHO, however I LOVE what JuiceDefender does for my battery - and it's not compatible with Gingerbread. As soon as that is released, I will have a semi-tough descision to make.
Scott
Just switched to CM7 from warm Z and loving it (Pandora sounded like garbage). Very responsive to say the least, GB seems to be quite a treat.
BT tends to leave out a lot of bass, but you can help correct it by using DSP manager.
The kernel plays a bit part in this area as well, chad's incredikernel has some audio boosts (especially for the earpiece) that I like. I know the stock earpiece volume was formerly way too low in crowds or even moderately loud situations.

I don't have any lag on my Evo at all, unless my phone doesn't like a particular kernel. When everything is dialed in, it runs smooth and quick, on sense or AOSP. I would tend to think that there is a reason you're getting lag. Can you be more specific? Does everything lag, or is it just certain apps? Have you tried wiping everything and reflashing whatever ROM you're using? Or at least just wiping cache and dalvik cache then trying out a different kernel?
Awhile ago I used to have a samsung galaxy s that I did a lag fix on and it really made fast faster. My phone its pretty fast I was just kinda wondering? I am using Koni Elite 2 and pretty impressed, but MikFroyo is my favorite rom so far. I'm pretty new to this..

Gotchya. I was just looking around a Samsung Fascinate forum the other day, prepping to root my buddies phone. I saw all sorts of strange talk of lag fix, voodoo kernels, Odin's, clockwork red, clockwork blue, clockwork green, D109's and DJ05's, haha. All sorts of stuff that I'm not used to seeing over here on the Evo forum. I felt like a total noob reading through it all at first. Anyways, there's no specific 'lag fix' that I'm aware of for the Evo. Like I said, differnt kernels can drastically affect the way the phone runs. another thing that can sometimes potentially make the phone laggy is the 1.90 pri. Some phones don't like that pri (mine included) and the 1.77 pri works much better. Others report the oppositte. But, basically, you're phone shouldn't really have any lag when everything is working properly, at least in my experience. So if you are getting any drastic lag, I'd try making some changes.
It's not my phone it's me..I'm running out of things to do, and always trying to make fast faster! I just want the page opened and ready before I even hit the button...
Lol...

If you really wasn't to see your phone fly, install CM 6.1.2 along with the 7.6 Snap Turbo kernel. There is a whole thread here to help you out. I get quadrant scores near 2600 with that setup. Only downside, no 4g.

I remember absolutely needing a lag fix on my vibrant, I hated it. I fell the evo is pretty damn fast. That and the gps problem is why I ditched samsung for htc. The samoled screen wasnt nice enough when functionality was ****. Im using azrael 4.0 rom with launcher pro and my evo is pretty zippy

EI22 Camera crappier?

Am i losing it or did the degrade the quality of the pictures/camer app majorly? I havent seen any threads on it so im just wondering if its in my head. Is it possible to put the old camera app (even tho its the same) on ei22?
My pictures and video have actually looked better.

o , thats odd , it might just be because i have returned back to an Epic after using an Evo 3d for a while , im not sure. But my girl also has an Epic and i noticed the same thing on hers , after the update when moving the camera its just extremely laggy and lower frame rate and pictures are grainy and more blurry. Same on mine. Front camera tooo. Forget about it , now its absolutley worthless lol.

Yeah even with all the settings correct its just really lacking. Same on her phone too. Its a little better on the MIUI camera app. I have a feeling if i odin back to ec05 or earlier itd be fine again. I used to think the epics camera was the best , better then the evo 3ds and everything but now its just terrible and like i said it happened to both our phones so it has to be something. Im too lazy to odin back though to truly see if it changes back lol.

well i flashed cleangb rom and it seems to be a tiny bit better , although not by much. i think i may have just been a little spoiled with the evo 3d camera although i dont know how cuz i recall missing the epic camera when using it , lol.
The amount of light around makes a huge difference in FPS/lag. Turn on more lights and see if that helps. Also you can try using Sport mode which has no lag, but it forced the flash off so again you need lots of light.
About the same for me
My camera stayed the same for me after my update to GB. I have mostly taken early morning photos though, and they are grainy, but not too bad. I always keep my flash off though and hold the phone close to my body to reduce shake. The front facing camera has always been pretty bad for me (I didn't expect it to be good though, VGA quality.)
I haven't seen any problems with mine

Honestly, the only feature I was bugged by was the missing stutter off option. Other than that, I say my cameras been as good as always. I DISLIKE HTC cameras with a passion -__- they are nowhere near Sammy's quality. Remember the OG Evo's 8MP vs 5MP?
But then again, to all his own

[Q] Is this phone still buggy and problematic?

I was thinking about re-buying it, even though it disappointed me back then when I had it. It was recently updated to ICS and I found it to be laggy, especially in the homescreen and with a livewallpaper, then it had also a bunch of bugs, the most annoying one was the camera button not working all the time when trying to snap a quick photo without turning on the display and everything, and the autofocus being slow and crappy in video recording. There were more bugs but I don't remember them too well.
Also, back then they all had the crappy screen with yellow tints, I got mine replaced but even the replaced screen was rather crappy, with inferior color reproduction, and yellowish whites, in comparison to the old screen which looked AMAZING, except for the dark yellow patches.
Tell me if it has gotten better in these few months, it should have gotten a bunch of updates too.
Also, can you tell me if games run well? My favourite android games that didn't run too well back then were Wind Up Knight, Let's Golf 3, Asphalt 6, and probably a couple more but I don't remember. I'd also like to know benchmark scores in NenaMark2, Antutu and Quadrant, I'm willing to install custom kernel and customized stock based roms.

Its a damn good phone, but if you didnt like it then you probably wont know. Most of those bugs are gone and my screen looks good. I run games just fine, but I am not a major gamer.
Probably should have put which phone you are talking about and put this is the QA section. I assume it is the Xperia S.
Yeah, it's the XS, I'm sorry.
My main problem with it was the disappointing performance. It literally ran less smoothly than my old Xperia Ray, and I tried EVERYTHING except for custom kernels, because there weren't many back then. I'm willing to try them now, if they do make a big difference.
I don't remember on what firmware was I though.
Which bugs still persist?

Custom roms make a big difference. There really aren't any bugs that bother me that are still around. Its definitely one of the best Sony phones for dev support. On KA20.1 its really fast. I can't say enough positive things about this phone and I have owned one since it first came out. I has its flaws but there are no perfect phones.

Can you tell me which flaws still remain? The only hardware flaws I found with this phone were the unresponsive dots but I learned to get them to work everytime by swiping them instead of pressing them. I don't really mind non removable battery or no SD (I'll never fill 32Gb). The screen should be good now, I don't know if you had to get yours replaced, but at first they used to replace it with a ****ty screen which had tinted whites and poor contrast.

The software flaws that annouyed me were how slow and stuttery it was (is it still like that on stock?), camera button that worked half the time when going from sleep to snap (that feature was also advertised but it didn't work), terrible autofocus, and there were some bugs with the facebook thingy and some widgets, IIRC.
Also, if you could link me to a changelog of the new firmwares that came out recently I'd appreciate it.
Ah, sorry for the double post.
It's a good phone, but don't ask for miracles.
Buy one. Unlock it and flash a JB rom
