[Q] Wifi Problem On HTC Wildfire - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey there,
this is my first HTC phone and i m a bit disappointed with it i was a iphone user , just thought of trying android this time , so got this cheap phone
anyways, coming to my problem the phone is running 2.2.1 Froyo and its working gr8, but when its giving me problems on wifi, it keeps on saying "Obtaining IP Address" and it gets stuck on that page (Wireless & Network Setting) and says "Wireless & Network Setting Not Responding" and i have to click "Force Close"
any one knows how to fix the issue (Not Stuck On That Setting page)
is there a issue in my security setting or channel ?
i m using WPA-PSK & TKIP+AES as encryption and using channel 6 (I AM IN PAKISTAN)
Anyone can please help me ?

Had similar problem. Changing channel number helped. Unfortunetely, don't remember the values before and after, try to set 'auto' if there is such one.

oh, i m currently using 6 channel, and there is no such thing "Auto" , please help anyone, its really pissing me off and my HTC is not giving battery time too

Just try some other channel. There may be neighbour Wi-Fi network that use the same channel. This may cause the problem. It could be also the Country/Region setting for your Wi-Fi access point or what you are using. It's better to set the corresponding region setting. On the other hand, on my device there is no appropriate choice for my country and all works well anyway (I just chosen someone).

still looking for the fix

What a bunch of experts It has nothing to do with channel number. the problem is in your wifi router.
You need to do some changes in the settings. Enter the settings in router bu typing numbers in the address bar. User name and password are usually admin. Since i don`t know what router you are using(and i don`t care) find settings for DHCP server and check that option(now it is unchecked)
Hope it helps

I just tell that I had similar problem. And the only thing I've done - changed the channel number. Of course this is about the router's (or Wi-Fi access point or whatever) WLAN settings - the Android device has no such setting! Symptoms were exactly the same. And when I've set channel value to 'auto' (yeah, yeah, on my router) everything became ok. That's it.
Certainly DHCP must be turned on, but usually it is by default. And based upon initial question I suppose that topic starter knew about DHCP. Maybe I'm wrong.
And I assure you, I was surprised not less than you when found this solution after few days of searching and experiments.

how expert u r ? lmao, u should know that DHCP must be turned on and i know about DHCP, its just channel setting which is conflicting.. and if u turn off DHCP, u cant run the WLAN on multiple PCs and u have to give IPs to each and every PC u connect to the Router ...

But you obtaining ip address from dhcp. it has nothing to do with ch number. ch number can make problems if your neiighbor is on the same ch and then you can expirience signal strenght issue ,not connection issue...Dhcp is not enabled by default in my country. Did you fix it or not? if not,we will find other solution

Nope, i didnt fix it yet

Just give the phone a static IP as a test, at least you will see if it's DHCP that is causing the issue.

how to give static ip to the phone ?

Menu -> Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings -> Menu -> Advanced -> Use static IP
All IP-related Wi-Fi settings are here: IP address, Gateway, Netmask, DNS.

Thanks
But the problem is still there

i doubt it is the compatibility issue between wifi hardwares.

Try menu, settings, wireless and networks, wifi settings, menu, advanced. There is use static ip option. if it is checked, uncheck it. If that does not resolve your problem,we will try something else and keep trying until we fix this.

I tried using the static IP,but the problem is same

Change your settings (in router) under security to WPA2(AES),Pre-Shared Key Format-passphrase, WPA Authentication Mode-Personal (Pre-Shared Key) .
Under Advance Setting(security also) Authentication Type-set to AUTO.
And don`t using static ip.

First of all enable the WSC then we should get more options for security and tell me the exact model of your router.

Windows Live won't connect through wifi

Loaded the official Dopod WM6 rom onto my SPV M700. Gone through all the settings but can't get Windows Live & Messenger to connect through wifi even though wifi is activated. It will always connect through 3G. I tried deleting the 3G wap settings & activated wifi but then it won't connect at all instead saying it an't find an active internet connection.
Anyone got theirs working over wifi & can lend a bit of help. Thanks

I have same problem. can't figure out the reason..
Had the same issue.
The cause in my case was that I did not follow the instructions of my provider. I forgot to configure the vodafone proxyserver.
Internet worked, mail worked but Windows Live would not connect.
After I configured my proxyserver everything worked great.

but how to configure it, please give some details, thx.
Would these proxy settings affect the VPN options too?
Everytime I try and connect to work even though WiFi is on the VPN connection always trys to use the gprs or 3g connection. Really really annoying..
I am still using WM5 and 2 different versions of WM5 have given me similar problems which I have not been able to solve yet. I have to use a proxy and even though I configure the proxy correctly, I can not access the internet. I have done the same configurations on the HTC TyTN and a Imate Jamin and they have no problems. I have delayed upgrading to WM6 due to all the problems others are having.
OK I did a hard reset no programs loaded & just configured the wifi. Tried connecting to Windows Live, Messenger & Hotmail through wifi worked fine.
Then I entered operator settings exactly as I had it before upgrading to WM6. With wifi still active I again tried connecting to the above but it still insists on connecting over 3G.
I went in Connections Settings & removed the MY ISP settings (which were O2 3G setting) & tried again. Even with wifi still active it would still look for the 3G settings & as I had deleted them it would not connect at all.
Really need to sort this out as I don't have an unlimited data plan (crappy O2 tariffs) but I can't get it to WL to connect over wifi.

How? I simply followed the instruction given by my provider.
My D810 even tries to connect to my 3G/GPRS on soft reset so I suspect it may have something to do with my Contacts with all these Windows Live Messenger contacts - it doesn't connect after I remove the Windows Live account from the phone.
The only way I can find to stop it from connecting to my 3G connection and connect through Wi-Fi is to force it to use anything but a connection to my mobile service provider:

Well after much messing about I reverted back to as default as I could using Mozzer's rom for Orange UK. Tried the vpn settings straight away and it worked perfectly, I can only assume that maybe in Mun's rom there are some settings missing that Orange UK doesn't like missing as that is the only difference on the phone now.
I've given up. Tried everything but Windows Live & Messenger still won't connect over wifi it will only connect over 3G. I'll just have to resist using Messenger & checking my Hotmail messages.
Other than this problem the Dopod SEA WM6 rom is brilliant. Nice & fast & very stable. TomTom is fast & smooth works flawlessly. Had no lock ups or crashes.

Try turning off the phone, leaving only the wifi on, sign in and turn phone back on again, works for me.
WIFI with LIVE
My unit is doing the same thing. What i did is connecting to WIFI first. Right after, i click on Windows Live, my unit will try to connect to GPRS. What i do is cancelling the connection and my unit will start using WIFI connection. The only way to stop it using GPRS and using WIFI right now is cancell the connection before it connects.

[Q] Froyo WIFI problem with dynamic IP

Since installing Froyo on my Desire, I can not connect to my local wireless router (Belkin N1 Wireless router) when using a dynamic IP address. Previously (on eclair) this was no problem what so ever.
When I try connecting, it keeps saying it's trying to aqcuire an IP address, but nothing happens.
When I check the routers overview of connected devices (DHCP client list), I see this:
ip address: 192.168.2.4
host name: android_f07d6a45ÿÿÿÿþÿÿÿ (yup, strange characters)
I tried connecting to my macbook via WIFI, and that worked without a hitch.
After restoring factory settings on my Desire, factory settings on the router, installing newest router firmware... I tried again, but to no avail!
Then I gave the Desire a static IP address and presto; I could connect to my wireless router without a problem.
In conclusion:
Before Froyo: connecting to wireless router with dynamic IP addresses = no problem
With Froyo: can only connect to router with static IP and Desire's hostname contains strange characters
Most other wifi networks seems to work.
Anyone else having similair problems? Is the Desire's strange hostname the problem?
This was a problem for me with Eclair too, and yes I'm still experience it, the only solution I found before was "wifi-fixer" or what ever the app was called (it's found via the market). But it did not work all the time... :-(
Update: I can connect to Dynamic-IPs without noticing any strange Chars. But its the "unable to..." that's similar to your's.

These settings should be different from router to router
I can give you mine, but I doubt it will help you:
IP: 192.168.2.4
Gateway: 192.168.2.1
Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
DNS 1: 192.168.2.1
DNS 2: BLANK
Depening on your router and settings, you might have to change the ".2." in all of these to ".0."
The "4" in the IP address is also free for you to chose (must be available though)

[Q] Networking Phone is AP & XBMC remote. [How to keep correct IP in host profile]

[Q] Networking Phone is AP & XBMC remote. [How to keep correct IP in host profile]
The setup i'm working with on this problem
HTPC = Win7 32bit Box running XBMC Dharma 10.1
Network = Wifi card in PC getting internet from Mobile AP (Phone)
Phone ( Epic running EC05 ROM, Kernel Genocide 2.0 ) is the AP and using it as a remote
What i would like to accomplish is to be-able to turn on Mobile AP, PC connects to Mobile AP, Start XBMC on PC then xbmc remote app and pick the corresponding xbmc profile for that PC. ( watch movie )
The problem is that the PC does not always pick the same IP (its set to DHCP) there for xbmc remote app cant find it and i have to go in to the settings and change the IP for that xbmc host's profile then its all working fine.
Now in windows if i try and make the IP of the WLAN Static i get a warring about

That has to do with the fact that if you run ipconfig/all with mobile AP the Default Gateway & the Primary DNS are the same IP. ( Correct me if i'am wrong about that error coming from that)
I ignored the error any way and tested it and the PC no longer has internet even though the IPs DNS and gateway are all the same as if DHCP was on
A Work around that i have tried is to Set the " Host or IP Address: " in xbmc remote app to the Host of the windows pc instead of an IP. But then i get an error from the app " Host is unresolved: borus:8080" (Yes borus is the name of the pc )
If i could get this setup working seamlessly it would be a grate setup for laptops
No one has any ideas?
Has any one got a static IP to work with mobile AP?
Sent from my ComBadge
I would still like to know if any one has any ideas
Or any other work around to make this work
I have not used MobileAP before. Can you specify the size of the DHCP pool on it? IE: change it from 10, 15, etc addresses to only one?
That way DHCP would always give out the same ip...

O my bad it's not Mobile AP any more that was on Eclair 2.1 But its the same thing just a new name its part of the phones stock Hot Spot/AP Hacked Hot Spot
Good idea. But there is not a DHCP setting in the stock app & we all know Wireless tether does not play nice with our Epics.
Does any one use the XBMC remote app on there phone/s?
In the setup of xbmc hosts it says "Host or IP address" i have tried entering the netbios name of the host pc & that's a NO GO. What why does it say "host" what is host if its not netbios name?
Wireless tether works fine on mine (3.0-pre12). But, I'll guess that netbios won't work since it's probably trying to query the default route out (which in the case you show above would be Sprint's side) so it's likely disabled from their side.
Anyways, going back to your OP, that message you're getting does not have anything to do with the default gateway and primary dns server as the same ip. Rather, Win7 is saying you have multiple default gateways that are conflicting (ie you had both wired and wireless connections enabled).
I'd give Wifi Tether 3.0-pre12 a chance. I've had pretty good luck with it *if I keep 4G disabled when I turn it on*. You can enable 4G after wifi tether starts, just not before.
Ya there is a router pluged in the NIC but there is no internet on that router.
Pre12 gave me hell b4 (when it came out)
I witch that xbmc remote would look at the Mac or somthing like that.
The only other idea I had but have not tried yet. Is to have two routers. I would need one to auto connect with the phones AP. That router would go into the WAN port on router #2. Router #2 would go to HTPC. I would just need router #1 to act like a WLAN
Card
^^^^
That setup would not do any good with a laptop.

That.
And what is your actual setup? You have wireless and wired? A wireless router and your phone?
You should be able to set a static IP no problem really. ip/subnet/gateway/dns.
As long as you pick the correct settings for that....you "should" be ok.
Configure all NICs as static and only put a default gateway on the NIC leading to the network that has internet access. You can only have one default gateway per box, unless you have multiple connections to the same VLAN.
If in the event you have mutiple subnets living behind your wired network, then add routes to those specific subnets wih the route add command.
wouldn't it be easier to just setup a wireless LAN at home and connect your phone and computer to that?
anyways, if the tethering app on the phone lets you assign IP address, you can reserve one for your computer. otherwise, just set it to accept only 1 client so whenever a device connects to your phone, it'll always have that IP.

its going to have to work and if i need two clients i may just have to live with switching IP settings in xbmc remote.

[Q] Setting up Wifi Using Static IP?

On previous android file systems I was able to manually assign the phone a static ip, dns, gateway, subnet, however I can't seem to figure out how to do it on ICS. Can this no longer be done or has it been moved somewhere in settings I'm overlooking? I'm having trouble connecting to my home network, however I know if I set up everything manually using static values I'll be set. I go to Settings -> Wifi -> : -> Advanced -> but nothing there to change the phone static information.
-EDIT-
Nevermind got it, but have another question below. Under wifi, hold the network and then choose modify. Put in IP address you want phone to be, gateway for router, Internet DNS information, and the subnet 24 for 255.255.255.0. I did it wrong the 1st time and assuming it was asking for router info and IP and not to assing the phone a specific IP address too
Long press on your networks SSID in the list of available networks and select 'modify network'. From here you can set everything manually.
Long press on the access point you want to change the settings for and choose "modify network". From the pop up window tick "show advanced options".

Thanks guys I figured it out. When I originally did that I thought it was for router info, so I stuck the IP address of the router in IP slot and not gateway at the time. Went back in and it just dawned on me. Back to setting up the new toy.
Don't want to waste space with a new thread, but must the router be broadcasting? I've always been able to setup without broadcasting the router, however I turned off wifi and turned it on and ICS cannot find the router and connect unless I'm broadcasting. I prefer to not broadcast my router for the neighborhood to see, despite having security encryption on

I had same problem on CM10.
This is what i did to fix it: Go to settings and select Wi-Fi, long press on the network you want to connect to and a menu will pop up, select "modify network", after you did that you will have a new menu, scroll down in it and check the box named "show advanced options". at "ip settings" change from DHCP to Static. after you did that more fields will appear where you'll have to fill with the IP you'll have, the DNS has to be the IP of the router, and the subnet can be 4.4.4.4 or 8.8.8.8. as a general rule if your DNS (ip of router) looks something like 192.168.1.10, the ip you select on your phone should have the same numbers in the 1st 3 fields, example: 192.168.1.30. as long as it's not same as another PC/device you already have.
i hope this helped you, please let me know how it went!
