Using The Internet Via Computer Internet Connection - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey All
My HTC Desire HD currently doesn't have an internet connection so i use the "Use internet Via USB" method, I think that what it called
I can use Wi-Fi on my home internet connection but some reason my brother doesn't want it on so i am connecting to the internet via cable
I just install CyanogenMod 7 on my HTC Desire HD and it doesn't have the option to let me connect to the internet on my phone using my home internet connection
I was wondering if there is any ways of me connecting to the internet on my phone using my home internet connection
Is there a standalone HTC Desire HD software that i can install on the CyanogenMod 7 that can use "Use internet Via USB" feature or is there a third - party software that dos the same thing ? Will that work ?
If you can help please explain it step by step , Sorry i am a noob

I think the best way is to impose your brother because reverse tether is not a feature on android

Guys i have no idea what you all are talking about.
I have a Desire HD, running on Stock firmware, and it has an option of "Internet Pass Through". It allows me to connect my DHD to internet using my PC via a USB cable.

Any help will be great

"Reverse Thetering"
Hi Everyone,
I'm bringing back this thread up because I have 2 HTC HD, one on Sense with Revolution ROM and one with BlackIce.
With Sense and original firmware you have the choice for using the Computer Internet via USB and send it to the DesireHD.
An option not existing under CM7 base ROMs.
Anyone knows why or how to add this feature?
Thanks.

Share internet from laptop to HTC Desire.

Just wondering if its possible to share my internet connection from my laptop to HTC Desire.
Like use my laptop as an access point and share wired connection using Laptop Wi-Fi as i've seen thr are apps for iphone for that.
if your laptop is connected via cable and u have windows (perhaps mac or linux work as well, don know) use ICS http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/
I'm affraid that it is only possible with Windows 7. HTC Desire won't find ad-hoc wifi connection.
If you have Windows 7 installed, try connectify.
Works like charm.
Of course you can try with WiFi router as well.
i wonder if its possible over bluetooth? i dont have wifi so its my only option ;D
if you have a mac, you can do it with the sharing-preferences.
Saw this link...
Use HTC Sync
"After you have installed HTC Sync successfully, please connect the handset to the computer via USB cable then drag the status bar down from the top of the screen. Choose Internet pass-through as the connection type. The handset will now be able to access the internet through the computer's connection."
Hope this helps

Nope, this only applies to the new Desire HD.
Can't be found in the FAQs for the standard Desire.

I'm just also looking for a solution to do that but can't find one.

Don't really need PDAnet internet tethering for (T-mobile) Desire

Just realised that I dont really need to use the PDAnet application on my Desire or on my pc to tether internet using usb, I'm not sure about other network branded desires but I know that a T-mobile representative posted on the forums that Tethering is allowed on T-mobile as long as you stay within the 3GB fair use policy - Decent =D
All you have to do is select Internet Sharing when you connect your phone up, you'll have to wait a while for the computer to install it as a network adapter. This internet sharing option might not be on other branded phones.

update: its a bit jumpy I think, first time trying it.
Very true, but if you refering to the new 2.2 update allowing it,
the new update will allow for wireless , atm you can only
do it through having the phone connected through cabling.
This is what i think anyway.
Even thought internet sharing is available on most Desires (as it was on the Hero), there is still a use for PDANet.
PDANet allows you to share the internet via a Bluetooth DUN connection.
Regards,
Dave
PDANet will have to be my choice as I'm running Windows 7 which doesn't play nicely with the standard USB tethering!!
i've been using pdanet as you need htc sync installed, and theres not htc sync for mac :/

[Q] Desire connect to ad hoc wifi hotspot

I am using Desire and 2.2 version, but this version still cannot connect to ad hoc network for internet.
Is this any easy way to solve this problem?
Thanks all......
At the moment my desire is connected to a usb dongle wifi, because my wifi router is broken. First i've tried to make an adhoc network with my home computer but I failed. Then I installed tue usb wifi adaptor's software and it has an option to turn it into an access point and I've connected my desire to it.
I'm not sure if I'm helping you with this information, but I wanted to share my experience.

My USB wifi dongle is a RaLink model and I've downloaded the driver/application from the company's website.

Google for an app called "Connectify". That should work. I don't know how far it supports Windows XP (The page says it does support XP, but for Ad Hoc mode only), but I guess it shouldn't hurt to give it a try.
