Hi Guys, Need some help with this.
I installed the Steel blue theme for CM7 and decided i didnt like it, and wasnt sure how to go back to the stock CM7 theme, so i googled and found the answer was reflashing the ROM?
Now i've done this things aren't right, i'm missing the android market and my google sync data etc. So i tried downloading the new 7.1 update and flashing this but it is still missing the androind market and google sync?
ANy ideas / help would be appreciated !
Google Apps aren't included with the CM7 ROM. You need to flash a separate file to install them, as stated in the thread.
For next time(s), you really should do a nand backup before messing around with stuff to avoid reflashing and such

Personally I use Titanium backup from the market. It will restore your apps and data for you.
Using rom manager to create a backup won't really work for you, because if you flash a new rom then use rom manager to restore, you are actually restoring your old rom too!
So if i use Titianium back up ( which I have already installed ), after I flash a new ROM, where was all my data backed upto ? The SD card ? and do I just re-install Titianium back up and re-load my data from there. My contacts are synced through G-mail which is easy. I have appbrain installed, soi thats fairly quick, its just all the other bits and pieces, like the Scenes, ring tones, etc.
I would like to try another ROM, but dont really have a spare half hour to reload it all every time.
Hi, I'm running cm7.0 stable and I used titanium backup to restore my apps+data when I flashed this rom. I am continuing to get force closes quite often. I did uninstall and reinstall launcher pro once to see if that would help and it didn't help. I was running WidgetLocker homescreen and disabled that for a bit and it didn't happen as often. Is there anything I can do to correct this? I had read somewhere when installing a fresh rom to not restore data or possibly even apps? If I flash cm7 again over my current one will all apps and settings stay untouched?
I also just read about cm7.0.2.1, should I download this? I do eventually want to step forward as stable releases come out. Will I have to wipe anything again and if I were to download and install the rom through rom manager would all my apps and settings stay untouched?
I noticed Rom Manager also has an updates feature for premium users, is this the nightly updates and not the stable versions? Or is it the same as the stable versions but just updates it rather than flashing the entire rom? Thanks in advance for any help received here!
I was having this same problem earlier today. When restoring with Titanium Backup, you can't use the batch feature to restore any apps...you're going to have to go to the Backup/Restore tab and restore each app you want individually. For some reason the release can't handle the data (which I suppose makes sense because of all the irrelevant system files). (So don't worry about LauncherPro or WidgetLocker, they're not causing the problem.)
To fix it, you're going to need to reflash the ROM (or recover a backup if you made one before you recovered your apps through TB), and then when you want your apps, what you'll end up doing is going into TB, hitting the Backup/Restore tab, and go through the list of apps >> find one you want to restore and click/touch it >> hit "Restore" >> hit "App only".
Also, I would download 7.0.2.1 -- it's the latest release, and as far as I know, it is extremely stable. If you're unsure about certain releases, ROM Manager does have a comment/rating section with each release, and you can get a good idea as to how stable it is there.
I'm not too sure about the ROM Manager/updating question, though, and would be interested in hearing the answer, as well.
Let us know if you have any more questions!
Each rom is different so if your trying to restore system apps from one rom to another it usually will not work especially if your going from say a sense rom to gingerbread. Uninstall the apps that fc and try just restoring the app minus data.. good luck
As long as your using a rom manager supported rom it knows what rom your using and will give you updates for your rom 7.0.2.1 just fixes camera and is stated stable nand first and if you update w/o wipe and it messes with anything just restore and wipe before update
I have a feeling that its more of a permissions issue. Running Titanium backup and restoring your apps is not a problem at all. run the batch then select restore all apps with data. Once the list of apps comes up make sure the radio button that says "App only" is the one that is selected. If you restore the data that could cause issues.
I forgot to mention I did fix permissions with Root Tools. Anyone know about ROM manager and how it updates. If I go to 7.0.2.1 and there is a 7.3 does it install over the last one? And the update feature for Premium Users only to get access to the nightlys?

Yes it does install over the other one and you can keep all of your existing data without having to restore it. I'd suggest not using ROM manager, but I do believe the nightlies are for premium users in ROM manager.
Thanks for the help guys. I am going to install cm7.0.2.1 very soon and restore only apps without the data. It's a pain because I have so many! But I'll do it right this time. One last question, the google apps zip (gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip) I used to install after cm7.0 stable, can I use the same one for the new version? Or did something change?

That has not changed. You can use the same one
Thanks everyone for the help! I wiped my phone and successfully installed the new version of cm7 yesterday. I manually installed all of my apps again and got it setup and configured once again without any issues or force closes. My phone is running very smooth now!
I get the same thing sometimes on my phone. Launcher pro is force closing because its waiting on the sd card to finish mounting. In gingerbread it takes a hell of a long time for the sd card to mount, just let your phone sit for a min or two and you shouldn't have any problems. Also if you hit wait instead of force close it'll start working right after. No need to reflash the rom or anything else.

Ok so I have a rooted incredible, I just wiped all the data using the option in the settings>storage>factory data reset and then since some email accounts and all of my app icons were still there I wiped all the data using the clockworkmod tool that is on my phone from rooting.
Now for my questions:
If i look under "all" in the manage applications utility there are a bunch of HTC/Android apps that are listed in there but only as 0.0b in size. Is that unusual?
Some of these apps include:
3g mobile hotspot
android live wallpapers
android system
app sharing
bluetooth share
calculator
car panel
"copyright"
etc.
Some of these like car panel are ones that I moved into a different folder when I rooted so the incredible wouldn't see them. Is it normal for all these to be listed at 0.0b?
I also seem to have a lot more processes running than before, some processes that appear to be new that are running now are:
EPST
Google Partner Setup
HTC Message Uploader
MCC_OTA
Media Container Service
My Uploads
Pico TTS
Updater
Open Sense Plugin Manager
I don't think most of these were running before I wiped the phone, which ones of these are excessive and how do I get them to stop running?
Would I just be better off looking for a stock 2.2 ROM that has all the bloatware removed ahead of time? If so do you guys know where I could find one?
Version
Are you currently running stock android 2.2?
I've never heard of apps showing up as 0 bytes. Maybe the data their storing is 0 bytes but not the app istelf.
If you're already rooted I would go for some of the newer ROMs. You can jump on plenty of good froyo 2.2 roms (incredible list, Rom Mananger, XDA, etc), however you might consider some of the new Gingerbread roms that are coming out.
I ran stock 2.2 for a while and I'm telling you, almost ANY ROM out there is better than stock (bye bye bloatware!)
Thanks, Yea I was thinking my best bet is to just flash a ROM. It will be my first time doing it so I've got a little bit of reading do to so that I don't mess anything up. I was thinking of going with Liberation ROM since I'm so used to the sense UI http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087268 . Let me know if theres another ROM I should be lookin into, I'll be flashing this after work today I think.
Thought
Since this is a first time go around for you I would reccomend you download Rom Manager from the Market (download the free version and then pay for the donate version. It's a few bucks but well worth it). This will give you Premium Rom Manager. This application has a section where you can download Roms. You'll see a bunch of different Developers so find Ihtfp69. He has a rom called Skyraider Sense 3.5. This is probably my all time favorite Froyo Sense Rom. When you download the Rom and it wants to install make sure you do a full wipe of everything and make a backup of your current Rom (in case you want to go back later).
On a side note if you have apps you want to keep you might consider buying Titanium Backup from the market. After you flash your new ROM you can re-download Titanium Backup and re-install all your old apps with their data in tact!
Thanks for the good advice Sharpe. I have 2 questions though.
1) What is the proper way to do a full wipe? I noticed the factory reset doesn't really wipe everything. Does the wipe option in clockworkmod do a sufficient full wipe?
2)It's been a while since I rooted but I'm assuming I use that nandroid thing to make the backup right?
If you use Rom Manager it will perform the full wipe and nandroid backup for you (without having to boot into clockwork mod yourself and do it all).
Performing a factory reset only erases all the user data on your current ROM, when you're installing a ROM and you perform a full wipe, it will delete the ROM completely.
Ok so i upgraded from 4.1.1 JB Sourcery to the JB Sourcery 4.1.2 ROM and ever since than ALOT of apps are not compatible with my device.. soundhound, shazam, the new facebook app, and many more.
i looked @ the build.prop and nothing looks too bad.. i havent had a chance to upgrade my wifes GNEX from 4.1.1 jb sourcery to the 4.1.2 but she isnt having the incompatible issues.
any ideas? im thinking maybe i should copy her build prop lines for device, name, etc.. paste into mine and see if that works.
if i do that, and make the build prop changes, any thoughts if that will mess up anything else?
i could always change it back to what it currently is..
any help is mucho appreciated. i just wanna be able to download or update some of these apps that suddenly arent compatible.
thanks!!
Use titanium or other back up utility to back up just user apps (not system) -> do a full wipe (I suggest the super wipe script and dalvik wipe) -> fresh install of files found at http://teamsourcery.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1126 hope that helps and for future reference post these questions in related thread or in the q&a section

I always wipe and factory reset when moving from one software version to another. I got that habit from my old Eris where it required a wipe EVERY time I flashed something. But it's a good idea, as when software versions change, usually framework changes too and it's best to just start over just in case.
hmmm i did a full clean wipe everything i could possibly do, after backing up apps thru titanium..
i guess ill do it again. ?
thnx for the help everyone
dont restore with titanium... let the market restore your apps
betting it works for you.
Hey guys I'm pretty sure this is a simple problem but Im not enough of a computer to wizz to work this one out.
Basically Ive installed the latest Viper ROM (I think it's 1.6) on my HTC One M8 and no problems with the ROM at all, however I am finding it difficult to restore all my apps + data that I backed up prior to flashing Viper.
Ive double checked my restore folder, and the 371 odd apps/ etc do appear when it searches, however no actual list is then compiled. The .zips of the apps appear to be fine as I have extracted one and it has run, but I just dont wanna have to search for every app coz i cant remember them all, let alone figuring out how to retrieve the backed up data for them.
If anyone has any ideas or tutorials they know of I'd be most grateful.
The Viper ROM is awesome!
Usually the restore list is just there. Check the preferences for which directory Ti should store and look for backups?
