[Q] Customizing Carrier/Provider Name - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can i customize the Provider Name? I´ve a german Provider calls Netzclub, they base on o2 but on my DHD they shows only "Willkommen"(=Welcome) as providername and thats sucks so much.
Any help out there?

Wouldn't mind this myself actually, not to keen on 'Orange'.

what do you mean? cant understand you, sorry.

I've been looking for a way to do this since December.
I'm with Virgin Mobile, and on my lockscreen it says Virgin & shows the top of the mobile, but the rest is cut off

im not 100% sure but i believe we would need to modify apns-conf.xml in /system/etc folder, you will need root, i can test this for you if you want?

i tried modding the file replacing the "orange uk" to "test" it didnt work/there was no change, to be honest, i think the operator name that is displayed on screen is carrier/operator specific and cannot be modified, sorry.

What a shame :/

Think there must be a way, because if it was to do with sim, then how would it be changable on a jailbroken iPhone? Obviously it may be that it is just handled completely differently but im just saying that its not completely out of the question

[Edit] i am using CM7 and i believe the ROM reads the operator name directly off the sim card..

there must be a layer or something where you can code it hard. but dunno where or how....

Wrong Carrier Code
I just have a desire vc which doesn't show carrier name. It shows carrier code, the wrong one. I'm on citycell which code is - 47005, but it's showing 47006 which is for airtel. How to fix it?

That would be a good idea.. But think about it.. If people have a problem with their device not being able to connect to Orange, as an example, they will propably write in their devices forums and not the carrier forum, as they maybe won't know that it is a carrier based problem, but thinks it is device based..

Keyboard nuisance

Can someone please tell me how to fix the following?
If I am on the homescreen [Kavana 6.1] and I want to call someone, I will type in their name. If for example I want to call someone named Jill, I can type it out and it will appear on the screen as "JILL" and match up to the proper contact. However, if I type a name like Sammy, it will alternate between letters and the numeric keys to produce something like "4#.."
How can I change this?
same thing
i had the same thing happen to me earlier but the name that i was looking for was in the list too so i just selected it. no biggie.
I highly don't think there is a fix.

What is going on is that if the letter falls on a number in the search field, it is defaultet to showing the number. The phone thinks you wanna enter a number to dial.

Contacts of Same Name Merging

This isn't really a Desire specific annoyance, I think it's since Android 2.1
All contacts with the same name would automatically merge on the phone, although they are different people (with the same name)
Does anyone know how to stop the contacts merging ?
You mean, they have same name and surname?
In that case, you can use their miidle name or nickname.

But the database is used for business so they don't have nicknames and a lot of them don't have middle names, so the only way is if there's a way to turn it off or remove the code to do it
let me try to sum what you are trying to say
1. Xavier Spencer 12321456
2. Xavier Spencer 13546798
i dont really think this is a problem "frankly". just my opinion ....

I'm not being funny...but exactly how many people with the same first AND last name do you have on your phone?
Seems like a pretty rare problem. I've seen people with the same name on the Exchange server at work and they all then have to provide a middle initial. Failing that we all have our departments abbreviation at the end of our name.

Pretty sure the question is, "does anyone know how to stop the contacts merging", NOT do u agree this is a problem...
I had problem with Name and Name*, they were merged so i ended up sending nasty message to neighbor instead my girlfriend...

I am pretty sure that this is not a problem. I don't see how anyone can tell by the name that it is a different person if it is the same name . Unless u are a psychic

I got contact pictures for every person, so yes I do know the difference between them, but when they merge I can no longer recognise each person
And you all have your opinion whether you think this is an issue or not, but I'm just simply asking does any of you know how to stop it, I don't care whether you think there's a need to stop it
Just put the company name as Lastname.
So Mr Joe Another from Contoso Corp would be
First Name: Joe
Last Name: Another Contoso
Whilst Joe Another from Kebabs Limited would be
Joe
Another Kebabs
?
I wish I could do that with them all, I'd be happy with that, but my dad has the same annoyance and he has a bit of OCD so it's all got to be perfect
If no one knows, I'll try opening up the APK later and try stopping it myself

Once again you appear to have missed the question...
Anyway I think the point is that most non-android handsets would ask if you wanted to merge the contacts or create them separately instead of assuming they should automatically be merged. This isn't specific to just business contacts, my father and I have the same name (which by no means is an uncommon occurrence) so anyone with an Android handset would have both our numbers in the one contact. This is far from ideal and although there may be workarounds such as nicknames, there should be a better solution.
Try this:
Create new contact with same name.
Save contact then open it.
You should see link icon in the top right corner.Click on it,then select Clear suggestions.
After that, you will have 2 contacts with same name.
Just tested for myself. It works!

What does T-CDMA 64 mean?

At the bottom of my lock screen, that is what is displayed. I know that CDMA references Verizon's type of communication as opposed to GSM. I'm curious primarily what the 64 means.

I believe it refers to the amount of informational data (digital signal) it can transfer at once 64kbs.. That's how cdma networks work in case you didn't know
-if you want to change it you have to edit the eri.xml file in the xml folder found in framework-res.apk

Interesting... But that doesn't sound like something we would want to dive into without having read up on how to do this safely... Got any idea on where we could read up on changing this setting, and possibly the theoretical/optimal setting for Verizon?

I believe what Agraceful means is we can edit the message that prints there, not the setting.

sorry, would you please give some instruction on it? there is no hidden menu for the code
Open the dialer and enter the code ... that will bring you into an app ... but then what to do further exactly I don't know ;-)

Seeing that this user has only posted 12 messages, I'm guessing this was among their first 10. Last I remember, XDA requires 10 messages to be posted by a user in order to get some kind of further permissions, although I don't remember what, although that was back on the old forum software. These days there are also achievements to get "XP" and "levels", and that might've been one.
Long story medium, the user likely posted nearly useless information to get their post-count up to 10. As his only useful comment says in the OP "no thanks". I'm not even downloading something that I don't know what I'm expecting, much less looking in the zip or doing anything else, and some of the settings accessible via the dialer code are likely dangerous unless you know exactly what you're doing, so without actual instructions detailing what the code has to do with the title of the thread, I wouldn't bother.
I'm tempted to report the thread. Normally I wouldn't bother as this kind of thread from new users is a dime a dozen but it's pretty blatantly a misleading thread title without more information, and with no description of what the file is supposed to be, and the only words in the OP being "no thanks" just screams "what the bloody hell" to me.

I guessed it was fake, however, the man was deluded to the end, I also advise not to trust this. I was surprised that this has been hanging around for so long.

Probably the author cannot write a tutorial in English, so if someone could help, it would be very cool. It might work after all
I have looked into the file and it's generic code to enable VOLTE ( kind of a fix ) nothing suspicious in the file. Lol some of the xmls in the zip are from Samsung's phone. If you don't know what to or how to enable VOLTE. Don't download the app. Although Pixel 6 and Pro supports VOLTE out of the box. In my instance I have enabled E-Sim and can see option for calls over WIFI which worked just fine. The OP has just copied files from other thread and posted here. Makes no sense. Btw username checks out You can cross reference the settings posted in xmls's to your phone.

i'm sorry my english is not good.
I tried to change a setting ... then reboot ... but the change gets undone ... I guess that's sorta normal as the underlying XML files are in read only storage (guessing). So this is probably un-usable to make permanent changes.
