Yes and no. It's based on the Build you currently have installed. From the looks of it you have Not So Super Froyo RLS18. I do believe it has what we call "Wireless Tether" under the App Menu, and if not I think it's under Market. Just look run a search for that app and you should be able to share your internet connection wirelessly.
NOTE: Some providers can tell if you're sharing your wireless data, so I would make sure that your carrier isn't able too, or keep your usage down to a bare minimum.

thanks, yes it was there all the time ;-)

WM wifi router

Has anyone been able to get this (WMWifirouter) to work on the touch HD?
Mine just says USB=waiting for connection for ages and never connects.
Hi Johseph.
I just installed the trial cap yesterday and have had no problems at all. Both 3G -> wifi, 3G -> USB worked fine. I though had to restart HD first and do not open "Internet sharing" as it seem to be a problem for me.
Balthazar
Why don't you use the built-in internet sharing function? It works
Johseph i use it all the time with my laptop and its exelent. Version is 1.25 (built. 600) if you have some other version try this one.

The programm sould work wirh gprs/edge too only your access is slower.
I have installed it too and it works flawlessly. You need to activate Wifi and bluetooth
before you start wmwifirouter

Desire to use PC's internet

Is there anyway I can have my desire use my PC's internet when it is connected via usb?
At this stage I dont have wifi at work and cant use that method.
Essentially I want to reverse the direction of tethering when the phone is connected to my computer.
Thanks, Dean
Unfortunately, reverse tethering or connecting the phone through computer's Internet connection (through an ad hoc wifi) is not possible, which is quite annoying. It would be nice if this type of feature, although highly unlikely, could be incorporated an upcoming ROM update for example.
That is annoying, especially since I could do this with my old WM - although thanks for the reply and info.
I wonder if it could be done through an app perhaps.
Cheers, Dean

Yes it's extremely annoying. I had this on my HD and HD2, but i really don't know why HTC could not incorporate this with the Desire. Afterall, it's a desirable (excuse pun) feature.
it has nothing to do with your phone, since it all depends on the host computer. On mac: you can do it easily by sharing your internet connection in system preferences.

maybe i misunderstood you, but its perfectly possible to make an adhoc wifi network, and connect to the internet on your desire

it has everything to do with your phone. If the phone has no interface for it, it won't work.
Can't say whether it works or not, just saying that it does not depend solely on your computer

So does this mean I can do it or not ?
Do I need and ad-hoc wifi network - what exactly is this ?
Thanks

If your computer has a wifi card (laptops usually do, desktops don't) you can create a local network and connect your desire to it.
No idea if it's possible over a wire
You don't need to create an ad-hoc network, just download connectify and use it as a hotspot on your laptop, then connect the Desire to the hotspot you just created and that's it.

Ahh that is handy!
Thanks for the tip
I created an adhoc network following this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/adhoc.mspx
The host laptop itself can see the adhoc network, but desire cannot.
Any ideas?
Maybe I'm wrong but AFAIK Desire can't 'see' ad-hoc networks, only access points. You can get internet from PC, but only using Connectify under Windows 7 or by using advanced magic under Linux.
Am I right or something has changed lately?
BTW: does anybody share internet from Linux? Any suggestions?
As far as i know, you can only see an ad-hoc network if you have the desire rooted and change some files somewhere (can't remember which ones...), either way the next best thing is to use some kind of software that creates an Wifi Access Point.
I don't get it: why would you want to connect to the internet via your PC instead of directly connecting to your WiFi router ?
Maybe when you only have a LAN-connection?
Or Maybe when your in Work and only have a Lan Setup
and want to access / download things on your phone,
Reverse USB tethering would be AMAZING!!!!!

Stupid me, just hadn't realized that still not everyone has a WiFi capable router nowadays...
The problem with ad-hoc internet sharing is that your host PC still needs a WiFi connection. You can't use internet through USB. I've tried it yesterday at work (yes, for the Froyo update ), but no succes.
Having a smartphone in a country with high mobile data costs is like having a Ferrari to do your local grocery shopping Fortunately I'll have unlimited mobile internet next week. So I can finally use my Desire as intended.

[Q] [SOLVED] Wifi tether will not connect windows 7 x64 with atheros

Any one else having issues connecting to atheros wifi on windows 7 x64?
wifi is set to allow ad-hoc
changed ssid
created password
tested on di18 stock dk28 stock viperrom nebula supernova
even stood on my head with left eye closed and a finger in my bum chanting "please work damn it"
using wifi tether for root users from market and barnacle
I got epic on day one and even the sprint app will not connect
I have no hair left to pull out
and google laughs at me when I search for this now
open to any ideas that dont involve spending money
TIA for any help!
*bangs head on wall*
EDIT: drivers are also up to date
EDIT2: Using ATHEROS AR5B91 I am also able to create ad-hoc on laptop connect phone to it and bridge connection to get better range from home wifi.
EDIT3: Sorry to keep editing but I have decided to use viperrom as my daily driver if that helps anyone help me.
Do you have intel wireless card? Try connect with a different device. My netbook connects but not my laptop.

have you tried the new Wifi Tether w/ Infustructure mode, v3.0 it works great I am running midnightv2.4 ext4 with no issues. I have a acer win7 x64 lap and it connects, also a IBM L412 connects just fine.

I think your win7 x64 box needs to have a wifi card that supports 802.11n wifi. I have an Intel 5300 card in my system (also win7 x64, current drivers fron Intel's site) and can only connect to my Epic's network when I enable the 802.11n Mode in the network card's properties. Only issue I have is slow, sometime disconnected, VPN sessions, but non-VPN traffic works great.

you are correct, I believe the android tether from the market will broadcast in "n" ad-hoc mode, the wifi w/ Infrastructure will broadcast in "g" mode.
I just wanted to make sure and connected and yes it was broadcasting in "g" mode.
Did you create key code and is that 13 characters vs 10 conventional.

Card has b/g/n support (router is broadcasting in n) I can use my laptop to extend the range of my wifi to phone. Create ad-hoc on lappy, connect with phone, bridge connection works fine like that but thats not wifi tether.

Yes using 13 char code changing ssid and pass was the first thing I did. I even turned off my home wifi and made the phone tether settings (ssid and pass) to same as home network. Laptop tried to connect with stored info but timed out, cleared stored info on lappy and reconnected manually still timed out.

In case it helps anyone help me I have decided to use viperrom as my daily driver as noted in OP EDIT3.
I have some friends coming by today (they both have huges net at home and I am on 50Mb/50Mb fios so I handle downloads over 25MB) for some rom-ification to their phones ( 1 moment, 2 evo's , 2 epic's , 1 intercept) I have tried 4 other epics already they have same issue. Evo's and moment/intercept have not yet been rooted so havnt been able to test them as of yet, seriously who the eff is gonna pay 40 a month for a feature built into your os, thats like microshaft trying to charge you to be able to use a mouse ( dont freak there are no new charges with windows just an example ).

Reinstalling Windows fixed the issue thanks for the help everyone!

[Request] Reverse Tethering

Hey guys,
since i'm moving often, workwise, and don't have the luxury of great DATA speeds via my Phone often, and neither the Option to pair my Wifi with local hotspots or Routers in Companys.. i'd love a solution for the play.
So far i've tried
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-793102.html - Failed
I'm currently running CM7 (FXP Edition release 41 i believe) and it does NOT come with that option, though i've read that CM7 doas come with it on some devices.
Any help appreciated!
(BTW - a PORTABLE solution would be preferable, since it's Client PCs i'm sitting on mostly.)
My answer would be Yes, on whatever is possible. I guess any rooted rom could get that feature.

I have the same issue... I'm considering connecting my netbook with an ethernet cable and using the wifi to connect to my phone.
I haven't seen anyone successfully use ICS on Windows 7 to reverse tether to an Android phone through USB. (we use Windows 7 at work)
I think you need to enable RNDIS in kernel, for example to compile it as module.
Ive used connectify while i was on vacation.
You can turn your wifi adapter into a hotspot and put a password on it so you can connect your phone to your laptop while your laptop is connected to another wireless network (get it ?)
see http://www.connectify.me/
Well the thing is, I am usually connected via cable. So wifi is not an option.

[Q] Tether wifi connection through phone to PC

Hello everyone,
I am currently at work, and they have their always fun hitler-esque blocking procedures on certain websites that shouldn't be blocked. The place I work at has an open Wifi network available to customers that doesn't block anything. So my question is.. Is it possible for me to connect to the Wifi here at work and then tether that connection through USB to the desktop that I'm currently using?
Thanks!
Ricky
Yes..it is possible. But you will need to disconnect the lan cable before you tether and might need to restart the browser on your desktop.

Does your desktop have a wifi card? And you can use your phone as a wifi hotspot,if your rooted.
Will your company be able to tell if you were doing that from a company computer, don't they monitor the pc's,since they block websites from you?
All you have to do is turn on the wifi and connect the phone to the computer with a USB. Don't mount it as a disk drive. Now use a USB tether app from the market and bam!

anyways yes the evo way costs nothing but you could also maybe pick up a usb dongle? basically the same idea and doesnt tie up your phone just a thought
heh dongle
You can share the WiFi signal via USB. I have used PDANet before and it works fine, however, I have only used it with 3G. I am not sure if it will work with WiFi signal. Also, it entails having the PDANet software installed on the PC, which I am assuming is not a possibilty due to possible restrictions (seeing that youa re being restricted as it is). Doing a "usb tether" search on the market may provide other apps that may allow you to tether via USB without the need of having an application istalled on the PC as well.
