At a guess thats an Unbranded Desire
when it loads up do you get the HTC welcome screen or a T-Mobile/Orange/O2/etc screen??
I think it is unbranded, so that is good. But maybe you should wait for someone else to join into this discussion, because i'm not fully sure and don't want you to end up with a phone which is locked.
I M Getting HTC Welcome screen....

i don't wanna root my device....can i flash it with official RUU as said by Flaggie???
Just remember that with rooting you don't have any new languages, you still need to flash a custom rom. You could just first flash a generic rom (which you don't need to root for just connect your phone to your pc and run the .exe) from the xda website I mentioned before and see if you like the regular rom.

Good good, its all about the Custom stuff

give it a read and when you feel comfy with rooting go with it, and if you get stuck just add onto the end of that topic, simples!
Dear Ones...
I tried to update firmware with generic ROM but got the error....
Can you help me with this please ???
Make sure your phone is in Bootloader,,, then into Recovery mode
The 170 error is normal. At this point your desire is in bootloader mode and you just need to reboot your pc and re run the RUU.
If tour trying to downgrade - I don't think you can without root. I tried last night and It fails. I'm on 1.21 but my phone is now network locked and as its only 2 weeks old the imei is not listed yet on any database to undo the network lock.

Hi there, Got a desire which I rooted using goldcard method way back when I first got the phone (flashed it with stock HTC ROM to get rid of branding etc).
Now I have to send the phone back for a warranty repair and i'm not sure how to get back to stock rom. I tried using revoked3 to root it so I could install the orange ROM but had no luck (possibly due to the fact it was rooted via goldcard method as its carrier locked).
Would it be as easy as getting the orange ROM and just updating it normally? Or will I have to go through the whole tedious goldcard method again?
The big problem is that there isn't an Orange RUU available and, as far as I know, no-one has dumped it to install as an update zip.
If you did find it anywhere then you shouldn't need the gold card.

yeah I cannot find it anywhere!
At the moment, there isn't one.
Perhaps you should just flash the WWE RUU and hope orange dont ask questions
Unfortunately, you're in the same boat as all orange customers that have rooted....

And t mobile uk customers with slcd screens wwe ruu is the only way or my way which was to use an amoled ruu which blanked the screen so along with a new motherboard it also got a screen! Not that I did it intentionally mind! Sheer luck saved the day.

Hello guys. Is there a method to check a phone's original branding? I got my Desire here in Hungary but the ROM that was originally installed didn't have Hungarian language, only German and English so I suspect it is some grey import from Germany or I don't know.
I've rooted it, now i want to unroot it for warranty reasons, but can't install the stock WWE ROM because of customer ID error. This means it's not unbranded (or at least not WWE), but i bought it unbranded. So can I check somehow the phone's original branding? (from IMEI, S/N or I don't know)
The number next to the camera is HTW-EU-xxxxxx so I think it's definetly european.
Have you tried to flash the WWE rom with a Goldcard?
If not, do a search and create a goldcard and try reflashing the rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks, that's a good idea. But it would be good if I can prove somehow that the phone was branded or not an original WWE for the shop where I bought it. Or it's too late now to check what was the original branding?
Im not too sure about that.
You may have to get in touch with HTC with the details.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
He says he needs to unroot, though, so there is no need to try to flash a WWE ROM with goldcard.
As far as I am aware you cannot find out on which carrier you are branded.
The only idea that I can think of is to start flashing branded roms from shipped-roms and the one that doesn't give you a CID error is yours.
But the goldcard should eliminate any CID issues.
Flashing the WWE RUU will leave the phone unrooted....

Meanwhile in this thread I find an answer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831734&highlight=gold+card
Running fastboot oem gencheckpt gives the original Customer ID.
For me it's VODAP102 which is androidboot.carrier=VODA-Germany.
Great, got a branded HTC as an unbranded, time to go in the shop and have a nice chat with them.
Anyone knows if there is a stock RUU available for a german VODA branded phone?
Yes, it will be unrooted but not on the stock original ROM, since he's branded obviously, I meant.

Unfortunately there isn't one at shipped roms, only a french eclair and 2 UK, one of which is froyo.
But if they sold it to you, as you said for unbranded you should talk to them about that.
Thanks for both of you, i'll try to flash the WWE ROM with a gold card. Not the original branded but better than a rooted ROM And I'll go in the shop and ask why I have a branded german phone...
How do I unroot, restore default ROM, restore default hboot and go back to S-ON. Basically 100% stock since I need to send my phone back to the provider due to hardware issues. Many thanks.

Hi
When I tried H3G uk its saying ur phone ready to use but screen not working when i tried WWE(world wide english), it stated the customer id prob, install correct RUU.
You need a gold card for a non-3 UK RUU - sounds ike you have an SLCD screen and flashed an AMOLED RUU, hence the black screen
Out of interest, if you run available 3uk ruu and check for updates, won't it update it for you? Mine was 3uk before root and custom ROM, so might need this info at some point. Thanks

Yes, but if you can't see what you're doing it'll be hard to do it
I see what you mean lol. In old Nokia days we used to change language to Chinese on the friend phones. After having it done to me a few time I could change it back with my eyes closed. LOL

Eddy, is that a correct one?
Hi,
I purchased a new HTC One X from France (I have a friend there), and it came in french and with some apps of SFR (a french cellular company).
I want an official ROM of HTC but without all those apps, and with Hebrew support.
I saw this page with stock ROMs, but how do I know which one is suitable for me?
And can I install a stock ROM that did not come originally with my phone?
I am new to Android and smartphones in general, so please be patient with me (I'm a quick learner though).
Thank you.
Download cidgetter from the play store, that app will let you know your cid. My hox is unbranded with cid 401.
When you know your cid go to the page with the ruus and look for one with your cid in the version number.
Remember though you can only use a ruu with same or higher version number
You can't change region or carrier unless you have an s-off hox
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
OK, my CID is VODAP203. What does it mean?
And what is s-off hox, and how do I get that?
(Simply, all I want to do is to reset my phone to factory's settings but like a not-branded one and with Hebrew support, as if I bought the phone from my country).
Thanks in advance.
ps: is there any detailed guide which explain all those terms and how to install a new ROM and all this stuff...?
Go to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23542734
Tell them your cid and some 1 should be able to guide you to the relevent ruu for your cid, that will get you back to stock factory settings.
You can't change cid unless you are lucky enough to have a s-off hox (s-off = security-off) so your best bet if your not bothered about warranty is flashing a custom Rom with all the bloat removed.
Go to this thread for all you need to know about flashing a custom rom

You can only use RUUs from Vodafone France - you can't use a stock ROM unless you go custom

I don't want it like I got it, I want it as if it wasn't branded (like another region).

I don't understand something, I can't use a stock RUU but a custom one I can??
What do I need to do to get an official ROM (General, not branded, like pure HTC official ROM)?
Thanks...
You can't until we gain s-off, that's why if you want rid of all the bloat ware on your phone you will have to go custom rom or root and uninstall the bloatware yourself

I'm going to assume the lest complicated situation, you have a regular HTC One X that is S-ON, but that you've managed to unlock your bootloader and root your phone. From browsing around it seems like the most standard starting point.
I think you are right; it's a little weird that you can only use the RUU (what HTC provides as a stock / factory ROM) from where the phone was intended to be used. I guess this makes some sense: you can manufacture custom configurations of the phone per clients markets (i.e. US Telcos may want two types, a delux version and a stripped down cheaper version) so HTC makes sure to configure the phones differently. If you have different phones, then you need to ensure each works as it should out of the box, so two different ROMs might be required where each stock ROM is optimized for use with the phone configuration as dictated by the CID (does CID - configuration identifier??). So for most of us, the RUU that's available to us is strictly determined by the phone CID.
So why not create a super RUU that is so awesome that it could determine what the physical and software configuration of the phone is and permit only the compatible features? Are HTC developers too lazy?? Maybe, I don't know, I'm not a developer. So enter the custom ROM. A kind of super RUU IMHO that allows for more customization based on the talents of the developer(s) who often design these things for free, on their own time, and although not obligated one bit to support or update them, do so anyway.
So there you have it, you are stuck with the RUU that is compatible only with your CID, or you can research the various custom ROMs that exist and try them out.
Good luck and have fun with it.
