So I looked in past threads and nothing really showed up. I have been having this problem for a few days and am not really sure as to what is going on, and have not seen anything on the web about it. I am running:
Droid Incredible
Cyanogenmod 7.0.0 RC4 (Gingerbread 2.3.3)
Chads incredikernel 2.6.37.4
data throttle remover vzw for RC4
I have had no complaints and really enjoy it, but... I cant seem to play music through my headphones!
As a college student this is really screwing with me because I listen to music on the go with my Dinc all the time, but now when I try to listen to music on my phone, it hisses, makes static, and slows down the song. It sounds like it is struggling to play the files honestly. Then, it inevitably gets stuck on a black screen and slows down the phone so when i press the wake button nothing happens until about 10 seconds later. PLEASE reply and help out. idk whats wrong
UPDATE
Just an FYI, I have rebooted numerous times, it happens on every music app, and it happens on headphones and speaker after about 30 seconds of play time.
attached is an example i recorded on quicktime of what happens. my phone just screwed up and i had to reboot :/
By chance do you have compression enabled under DSP Settings? The option was always there up until the final release of CM7 where it seems to be removed. When I had messed around with it in the past it always caused horrible audio distortion, crackling, etc. It sounds as if you may have it enabled on yours, worth a check.
respone
since I am on the cm7 rc4 release, the one that came out as the stable final on april 10, I dont have the option for compression. I do have the eq and bass boost enabled, as well as the virtual room, but thats just cus it makes my music BUMP. esp. on poweramp. Thanks though! Any other help is appreciated!
well.....
So after no conclusive help, thanks to the only person who did help despite the fact that it didn't really do anything, I finally fixed it!
(in case anyone was wondering)
CM7 RC4 has been uninstalled and I recommend doing it asap!
I installed OMFGB Rom (newest one) with the 2.6.37.4 incredikernel by chad and its running rullll welll. no complaints and gingerbread is stable!
thanks anyway xda, but omfgb > cm7 and
update 4/21/11
so i switched to the miui 2.3.3 rom and its bangin. i put this over the other two because im a big fan of this now. play around and see what works for you, but miui is phat as hell. it was having a similar music static issue, and i am going to say im pretty sure it has to do with the kernel because i uninstalled the incredikernel from it and reinstalled miui and it worked really well! the dsp manager makes my songs THUMP in my head
It might be that the kernel is set to underclock to 128mhz on screen lock, something similar happened to me until I set minimum clock speed to 254mhz.

Hi all !!
I have a few minor problems with my DHD, the solution for which i'm looking... i'd love it if anyone could help me out. The problems :
1. Earlier when i used to dial any number on the keypad, there used to be a beep sound every time i pressed a number... now this sound does not come... i've tried all the sound settings, changed the skin to stock, and even restarted the phone quite some times, but the sound wont come back... how to get that sound back ?
2. Screen Lock Sound - Earlier, this sound used to be loud enough for me to listen to. Now, this sound does come, but it is very very low in volume... As mentioned before, i've ensured that all the volumes are at their fullest levels, but still no improvement...
3. Whenever i use WiFi, the speed of the phone becomes very slow. Whenever i exit a game after playing it, the phone takes a lot of time to recover to its full speed... what might be the cause of all this ? The Running services always shows around (80 MB in 4) on the left side and (250+200 MB in 40) on the right side..
Please let me know the answers to all these questions as they are quite nagging, especially the 3rd one...
PS : I'm still on Android 2.2... dont have the OTA 2.3 update in India yet !
thanks a lot
maxx
I haven't encountered the first two of your problems and the only thing I could think of would be that you have become deaf. (kidding)
I had the third problem for a while... I think it was to do with certain apps that can drain the processing speed of the phone. I had to delete and reinstall a few apps to find out what it was... might be worth a try.
Download sound manager from market. Not all volumes are accessible with out this app. I had the same problem. Another app you may have installed has altered the keypad and lock sound volumes. Sound manager will allow you to put this right.

Having severely scratchy, distorted music audio that usually starts after a few hours of regular use of stock music player, Doubletwist and Pandora. Also happens when automatically going back to music after answering an incoming call through my BT mono. Really strange. And when it kicks in, even my notification tones begin to sound scratchy (but oddly my ringtone sounds fine). A reboot fully corrects the issue... for a while, at least... but that's a pain and drops my battery between ~2% - 8% each time.
I clean my cache automatically daily. Thought it was a rouge app and monitored for a while through SP, but still coming up empty. And of course, I've changed up my ringtones with the thought that my regular one was blowing my speakers (I'm a child of the 80's and lost my hearing to death metal concerts in my youth, so I have to have my ringer just a notch above blaring )
Tried Timat's (same issue), now back on Sav's kernal. Tried full wipe & Calks format, flashed back to Sense, a fresh download of the ROM I'm using, did all this twice. Tried to disable stagefright in the build.prop using GScript so I could re-able when necessary (didn't work either).
Has anyone come across this? Many thanks.

Well, you've tried everything I would've suggested...tried different kernels, flashed backed to sense, performed a full wipe, etc. I would think that flashing back to stock would've alleviated the issue if it was software related. Perhaps your speaker is starting to fail? I've seen many people reporting needing to replace the speaker. However, it is indeed odd that its intermittent, you'd think that if the speaker was failing, it'd be consistent, and a reboot wouldn't clear it up. Odd, but I don't know what else to suggest. Have you tried tweaking the settings using DSP manager at all? If all fails, and being on stock sense doesn't fix it, I'd unroot and have it looked at by Sprint probably.
Crap, I was afraid someone would say return to store (which isn't the end of the world cuz I got it through BB and they REALLY don't care if it's rooted or not. They'll just hand me a new one). Sigh... too bad too, because I got everything else running perfectly (finally) with no fc, reboots, smooth as butter save for my music.
And yeah I played around with DSP also.
Many thanks, K2. I appreciate your response.

You definitely seemed to try just about everything but did you flash a Stock RUU? I'd nandroid backup and flash it to see if the problem still exists, if you've tried that then you would only have one option left, take it to BB. Best of luck either way.
Huh... haven't tried a Stock RUU. Good call! I'll try now and report back. Thanks Blake.

You're welcome, sorry there isn't more I can suggest. As Blake said, run RUU to unroot, which I would do before you take it in anyways. (What I meant when I said "unroot and take it in). If its still out of wack then, take it in.

I attached the Stock rooted RUU but visiting HERE should return you to unrooted stock evo.

None have anything to do with my issue. My own thread (I started in May of 2011) doesn't work this time around.
My issue: Music will pause when I receive a notification. I get a lot of emails / texts / whatever, and it's annoying as hell. When I'm listening to my music, it'll just pause it and play the sound. I've scoured all options. It happens using Winamp, Music and the newer streaming Music player. I've cleared the cache in DSP Manager, I've looked in CM Settings, nada.
Now, I'll say: This does not happen in CM Nightlies below 210. I flashed the latest: CM7 Build #227. I'm not overclocked, I'm not running task killers or memory managers. I wiped cache before updating... I can wipe everything, but I'd rather leave that for last.
I'd like to keep as up to date as possible with builds... But this is just driving me up the wall. Anyone have this issue?

Do you have a notification sound on?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Yes. The notification sound cuts the music off.
Then turn it off lol. I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be that way. I would be pissed if it didn't pause my music lol, but I only get a handful of texts
So wait, you're telling me the way to fix this is to turn my notification sounds off? I'm not trying to sound like a **** here, but that defeats the purpose. I need to hear my notifications and also don't want my music cutting off when I get them.
I'm a Sys Admin, so I get a lot of emails and texts. If I'm on the train trying to zone out from work and it takes me 10m to listen to a 5m song, I lose my ****. Also, I can't afford not to hear them... if some box goes down, I'm responsible for getting it back online / notifying the business.
Any other suggestions?
that's fine but the reason you didn't find anything is probably because you can't do it easily. the very idea of that is to notify you if you don't hear it then you don't know it unless you check, but then again if your gonna regularly look for notifications why not just manually check. Just saying not being a **** or anything, btw you mean like when the phone is in silent mode?
---------- Post added at 12:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:44 PM ----------
just sounds like it would take some work to pull off, have you tried google? maybe an app developer got annoyed about this enough to make an app, i dunno wish i could help more
I don't want to keep looking at my phone and pulling it out of my pocket every 20 seconds to see if there's a notification. My phone is on loud. Not silent mode. I can hear the notifications, it just completely cuts off my music to play the sound. I work in The Bay Area, and the train I take home is crowded as hell. So, I'd rather not be reaching in my pocket to see what the deal is if there is nothing on the phone.
The thing is: It's always worked before these new builds. Stock 2.2 for the phone worked, CM 7.1.0 Final worked, and every build after that worked up until 210. I just want it to work like it used to.
I'll get on Cyanogen's Bug Tracker and post something on this. In the meantime, I guess I'll have to find an old build and flash back.

Have you tried to going to "Music Settings" and check the box saying "Focus loss ducking"? Its very simple so maybe you have but how do I know, right?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
That option doesn't exist in the Music player that syncs with Google Music, however; it's in Music.apk (The normal stock one). I'll try that out. That's the option I was trying to remember where it was. I'll try now. Ty
EDiT: Nope from stock Music App.
Trying from the other one.
EDiT: Nope.
Couldn't find it or didn't work? What rom are you running? And when you say pause do you mean it just completely stops and you have to press play to restart music? Or do you mean it pauses temporarily and then continues to play after the notification? I know quite a few questions. Lol
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Didn't work. Running CM7 Build #227. It worked on ROMS > 210. And I mean it pauses to play the notification then resumes music.
Maybe totally off, but you could try MIUI, it has this option. Maybe you will like it more than CM
I am starting to hate this phone more and more everyday. It works different every time, sometimes it works great, sometimes it's bad.
Currently, i am having a problem that started appearing few days ago. So, i'm listening to music, and i notice the quality of the songs have gotten worse. I go over to settings, in walkman, and click on Sound enhancements, and this is what pops up: Sound effects currently not available
I am like, okaaaay, ill try another music player (poweramp).. the equalizer settings just disappeared from the options restarted my phone, and everything is okay again. So later that day, i plug in my headphones again, and i notice the quality is bad again, so i check the equalizer, "sound effects currently not available" what the hell, again? and everyday is like that. i restart my phone two times each day for the equalizer. why has this started happening? my phone is really smooth, no junk in it, not a lot of installed apps, everything works fine. and it can't be a jelly bean bug, because this started happening few days ago.
i swear, i am so trying to not mess with my phone, took a really good care of it from day one, i always do the clean up, never did i drop it once on the ground, so it's in the best stage, and the problems just keep appearing by itself...
anyone have this problem?
That's where problem starts, you didn't messed up with your phone .Just try a few roms out there or flash stock rom with flashtool & you'll start to love ur phone again

I think u should flash the original firmware with flashtool
(most people use clearaudio+ now, not sound enhancement lol )

make a backup and do a factory reset and if it doesnt helps go for a different rom
You probably mean sound enhancements? Try to uncheck clearaudio+

You hate this phone? LOL Well this phone must hate you too. If you don't like this phone, get another one. You are *****ing and moaning about this phone but you still keep it.
Hellol
So I have an old S4 and have a problem that I imagine is due to my girlfriend dropping the phone but would like to hear if anyone has an idea of what is going on.
So basically the phone screen wakes every 5-30s (seems to be a random time interval I have used a stopwatch to make sure it wasnt predictable) I originally assumed it was a kernel problem so I switched kernels, then switched roms, then went back to 100% stock and this behaviour happens on every single rom and every single configuration Touchwiz / aosp / CM / Google Edition everything I have tried.
What is strange is something I noticed that is a work around which is that if I play music in the background it never wakes. So basically what I am doing now is having music playing 24/7 and the volume down all the way so I cannot hear it. This is a pretty acceptable work-around but I was wondering if one of you clever folks would maybe have some idea what is going on and why playing music fixes it.
Damage: Screen is cracked in the top left corner where the sensors are, this why I am just assuming is phyically damaged something that.
Current OS: CM 12.1 Nightly.
Tried stock battery + aftermarket battery just in case it was that.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
