Stock rom suggestion and/or skyraider help. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Need some help finding a stock rom for my girlfriends phone. She requires that it is an exact replica of her stock phone and that it is good on battery life. She wanted a rom bc she was tired of poor battery life.
I currently have skyraider on her phone but I cannot find a toolbox or terminal commands to change the lock screen nor can I find how to remove the power controls from the notification bar.
So....2 questions:
Good 100% stock rom with good battery life?
Or
How to modify skyraider?

I used to run Virtuous v3.2.0 and it worked great so I would suggest giving that a go.

Redemption is a good choice as well.

Dude I'm getting ready to release a stock odex dinc Rom maybe tomorrow..... be sure to try it its going to be fast, stable, with great battery life

thank you for the suggestions...i am downloading them both now!

I would recommend Nothing Special.

It's the most up to date stock rom out there that I know of, It also has the malware patch, and useless (to most) bloat removed.

To change lockscreen in SR you just use terminal emulator from the market. Commands are tab unlock and rotary unlock I think. There in the SR op. There are no options to hide power Widgets. SR 4 should have something along those lines tho. For stock with better battery you should try stock with alternative kernal. Or nothing special

Of all the roms, which do you....

feel gives the best performance and best battery life? There are so many to choose from and I hate flashing one, setting all my crap back up and flashing another. I am on Baked Snacks 1.7 now, as of 11pm lastnight. So far it's nice. Not much diff from 1.5 I was on. I like SenseUI, so I want roms with it.
I hear good things about CM6, but it sounds complicated to install.
I'm running Stock De-odexed right now but I working on my own based off the new OTA. For me, CM6 wasn't hard to install - all I had to do was flash it with ClockworkMod and it worked OotB.
Well, if you want SenseUI, I wouldn't go with CM6 since it's more of an AOSP rom. Check out Fresh 3.2, that's as Sense as it can get with really great battery life (IMHO), on a stock "unreleased" kernel. I've been running Fresh roms since the beginning and still loving it.

CM6 is probably the fastest, not sure about battery life. CM6 is not sense and its also not complicated to install. You just need to flash the google apps as well as the CM6 rom. You can do them both at the same time then reboot. No big deal. However CM6 has no sense and thus can be pretty diffrent and raw feeling at first. If you like sense and you want to try CM6 try out launcher pro with CM6 I hear they got some great sense like widgets, plus you can get some sense like widgets on the market. Other good options are Damage Control and Fresh both are great roms with plenty of options. Baked snacks is good though too so really its hard to say whats the best. It really does come down to prefrence.
Personaly I run CM6 and I use ADW launcher. Its fast, and battery life is great. The options in CM6 are awesome and the options with ADW launcher are awesome as well. However if you go with CM6 you are going to want to play with the settings, it will help you get to know the rom and setting it up will really allow you to apricaite it.
Also I dont use a task kill and I dont recomened using one. However, I have heard good things about juice defender and people are starting to swear by it for battery life. Personaly I get a full day plus depending on usage, so I dont use it. I just make sure to charge my phone before I wake up.
CM6 + Juice Defender + Ultimate Juice is where I keep landing. I've tried several roms, but that combo works best for me. Fast, stable, and I get 22 - 30 hours out of my battery depending on usage.
Yes, CM is lacking 4g and HDMI out, not a big deal for me. The benefits FAAAAAARRRRR outweigh those two things.
Fresh 3.2, everything works
Good info, guys. I have been considering Fresh 3.2...I have been reading that thread quite a bit.
Do you have to flash the kernel separately from the rom on 3.2??

Every rom haas it's own kernel, some come with modded custom kernels, others are just stock. As long as you make sure it's compatible with the rom you are using you can always flash a custom kernel later.
Some guy told me earlier that the first 10% of the EVO battery drains away quick, which mine does. You don't start juding battery like until 90%. Anyone else heard this?
I have tried several roms. cm6 is nice but too many issues right now ie 4g, hdmi, mms broken.
I finally found a good rom; check it out.
[ROM] VaelPak v2.0 (9/6/10) -NonSense -[HTC#7][BFS][OC][UV][FPSU] -3.28.651.1 OTA
This rom you can choose sense or aosp apps and 3 launchers which awd launcher is the only real choice. If you choose awd you might want to change the settings to scroll the apps vertical. And of course this being a htc rom it has the stock bluetooth stack.
I'm using the v2.0 with Kings BFS8 Kernel (9/6/10) -

Vaelpak is a good balance between sense and aosp. I use Launcherpro.

what ROM am i looking for?

so ive been thinking about rooting my phone. im gettign tired of seeing the "low disk space" icons and sometimes the lag is just annoying...
i just dont know what rom im looking for.
ive been looking at cyanogen and thinking about going with that but ive been reading theres problems with the wifi and other minor stuff. so i was hoping you guys could help me out.
im looking for a ROM thats fast, stable, and still syncs up with google cal and contacts and gmail and gtasks and etc. but i also want it to be reliable in terms of other things such as the alarm clock, bluetooth, wifi, gps and whatnot. i also want it to be compatible with google voice... also, i would like longer battery life while keeping adequate performance up. so many underclock while my screen is off and overclock while its on? (if there is such an option)
also, another question i had was if i flashed a vanilla ROM on, would i lose all my sense widgets? and if i do, is it hard to find good looking widgets without paying any money?
thanks.
You can backup your previous roms so if you don't like one you flashed you can go back. And Widgets are usually hard to find. I'd suggest cm6.1 or virtuous for a rom and either an invisiblek or Chad kernel that will give you great performance and good battery life. I hope that helps

Yes, and no. You will lose all sense widgets, but you can find good free versions. I would start with Fancy Widget for clock.
My Rom Recommendation:
I am running CM 6.1 with B-SCM Splash of Red theme
and Ziggy471's latest kernel. But, a word of warning:
NEVER overclock past 1.19GHz on the Ziggy kernels. Most support going up to 1228000, but I've NEVER seen this work. No harm will be done usually (a brief stall followed by a reboot), but if you set this and then check Set On Boot, THEN you're in trouble.
Also always nandroid before flashing. Backups are your best friend.

O yeah. Also, a pointer about installing kernels and themes
0 Nandroid
1 Wipe Data / Factory Reset
2 Install ROM
3 Reboot, complete setup
4 Reboot to recovery, install kernel
5 Reboot, verify touch, WiFi
6 Reboot to Recovery, install theme (and Droid2 Keyboard, Bootanimations, etc.)
7 DONE! Exhale deeply.
does radio=kernel?

no, the radio is something you can change to improve your signal and battery life. you need to have S-OFF (ie unrevoked forever) to do this through HBOOT. I wouldn't recommended it if you're not advanced because this is one of the few ways you could brick your phone. If you do decide to change it, make sure you do your research and don't rush it.
Although I'm using a source CM rom, source never really works 100% for our phones. Sense roms are the most compatible and best way to go for compatibility reasons. Try out "Uber Z" or the virtuous ROMs.
Here are some TIPS!

The best ASOP roms that i have tried are Cyanogenmod 6.1 and Skyraider Athena 1.2. These roms are both available in the ROM manager app. Both of the roms are very fast with almost no bugs, Although they will not give you the best battery life. With that being said you can still change the kernel as long it is an ASOP kernel.
As far as sense roms i like Virtuous rom and almost any Desire Z rom. The rom i am using ATM is Uber Z. This is a very nice and stable rom.
If you want something that looks totaly different than android i would go with MIUI. This is a great rom with great battery life. keep in mind it is sort of based off of apple's IOS.

Fresh or sprint lovers?

I don't know which to use I only care about battery life lol all roms feel the same to me, I would use sprint lovers but I don't want it to have the notification power control, anyone know how to use it?

Wow...Is there a question in there?
All the ROM's feel the same to you? Try Warm or Cyanogen. Best ROM's ever.
not quite sure what you are asking here... i'll be vague as well... use which ever ROM you try out that you like the best
try vaelpak rom, www.vaelek.com , you won't find better dev. support
even has a special settings app for it in the market for free called vaelpak settings check out the screen shots in market
Best battery life and the best rom is MIUI, hands down
If you want sense then mikfroyo is the way to go

If you are only looking at those 2 roms i would say fresh. You say you dont want notification bar power controls.... almost every custom rom now has this.
Calk's Evio rom does have a mod that you can flash to remove it. It probably will work for any sense rom but i would nand droid first since this is untested. Additionally if the rom you use is themed it will likely remove the theme. Personally i am a fan of Evio and The New Koni's Elite Rom is out standing. Almost all sense roms are going to feel the same the fact is they are built off the same base. The only real difference is tweaks made for performance and the theme they put on. The tweaks wont visibly see they are behind the scenes the theme you will.
your last option is to read the post on how to modify the framework to get the notification bar work in reverse and remove it yourself.

I would totally disagree with that statement.
I for one love having an app drawer instead home screens with blank spots, and 100% working bluetooth, and receiving MMS, and using HDMI...but then again that is just me.
MIUI is a new and exciting concept, and every release they put out i flash it on my phone until i realize that it's still broken to the point that i don't want to use it anymore (usually 1 day), and then i flash back to FRESH or some other sense rom with a SBC kernel.
Oh and working USB tether is a MUST for me! Which MIUI does NOT do...at least not with WinXP machines.
I agree MIUI is a very different rom but i would not go so far as saying it is the best rom. In fact i dont think anyone can say what the best rom is because it is all personal preference.
Personally i didnt like MIUI
i totally agree. i need to start cooking roms. cuz every rom i try, even stock i have something visual or performance wise wrong. but i did enjoy fresh over sprint lovers fyi
K thanks guys sprint lovers wouldn't boot up

Whoa, all roms feel the same to you? I'm almost blown away by this comment. How long have you been using the Evo and messing with roms?
I agree with someone else here, MIUI is my favorite. Ava has my favorite sense rom.
God, so many great ROMs! I have a small selection that I put on my phone and those that I root for others.
My preferred custom Sense ROMs (not necessarily better or worse than any others) are EViO and Azrael, each slightly different but both great. Using EViO tonight.
Preferred Stock-ish ROM would be StockTurbo. Perfect for people like my wife!
Sense/AOSP tween ROM is Vaelpak..am excellent, very eccentric ROM.
Current fav AOSP, and what's backup up in my nandroid folder, is KingsROM Ultra Blue HAZE GBv10. I know, its a GB ROM, but I haven't had any issues with it, I haven't found anything that didn't work, and damn I love the GB cursor finger in text input fields!
This probably doesn't help anyone, but thank you for your time anyway.

ROM suggestions?

I am looking for a fast, battery efficient and stable daily driver. I have tried probably close to a dozen different ROMs where each had a feature I liked, the bugs drew me away. Currently, I am running CM7 with 2.3.7 gingerbread. I like it but it freezes and reboots every now and then (seemingly whenever I go to use the phone, sometimes loses user data on first boot after a freeze up). I am running low on patience with flashing and reflashing different ROMs, pulling my user apps back and all that jazz, was looking if anybody had suggestions on a great ROM that fits the bill. I would like to use Sense, but obviously am not grounded to that option. Thanks in advance for anyone looking to help out.
If you're not crazy about 4G, then MIUI is the ROM for you. It's stable (according to personal experience; All the bugs people ramble about are obsolete), customizable, and fast. They're currently incorporating ICS keyboard and market into the latest version.
MIUI has been my smoothest, bug free, battery effiecient, as well as most customizable ROM so far. Run it with savagedzen SBC, and I get insane battery life. Was at 18 hours moderate use at barely 51%.

Swagged out Stock
I'm using Swagstr's Swagged Out Stock ROM. Based on sense 1.0, it's been stable, fast and everything works. As I need my evo for work, speed, stability and functionality was key and so far this one has been great.
I would go with mikg primexl 3D or MIUI

Thanks for the responses guys, ill research each of these. 4g is not in my area so im not really crazy about it. What does the free internal memory look like on these ROMs? The one fallback of the EVO is only 1GB of internal memory.

Its always a personal choice but judging by the post.. I would say to go for Myn RLS 5. This is a froyo but you can always get some gingerbread stuff like launchers, keyboard (extremely fast and responsive) and titlebar mods etc.
Do the radio updates and make sure you are running suggested kernels on that forum thread. Switch your apps to SD card and you should be good to go.

[Q] Debloated/stable rom?

I have been looking for a debloated stable rom to work with......would like to have mms/sms work.....was wondering if anyone has tried GingerBangSense "M" Version, and if so is there any issues that have been found
Hey there.
Gingerbangsense M version is about as stable as it gets and if you stick with stock kernel everything works...stay away from the Dres kernel.
Ext4 doesnt do much on the mobile OS spectrum, and in my opinion neither does overclocking/undervolting.
Stick with the stock kernel version - and you can debloat right after boot or remove programs from data/app before install.
I also use Titanium Backup to safely get rid of stuff I dont need (Stocks, Mobile IM, whatever) and to re-odex the ROM (integrating into dalvik) and its super snappy averaging about 15-18 hours of battery life with three email accounts syncing.
Just an opinion. I really wish AOSP builds work well on our phone, but they dont. Next phone will be an AOSP phone for sure...but our Incredible 2's are pretty nice (got my for free when my original Incredible bit the dust)
Andybones stock debloat is nice. Gingerbang sense is nice. Skyraider is nice. Also, condemned's stock sense Rom is nice.
As far as dres kernel. I have used it on every sense Rom (gb) with no issues at all.

are there any of these roms that have different sense on them??
They all have 2.1/3.0 sense. If you want 3.5, try mikrunny's or Ginger Bliss, another rom by nitsuj
Skyraider Zeus 1.3 is really good. Been using it for a while with Dres #21 kernal. Snappy and has great battery life. It uses Sense 3.0.

Got my first Dinc2 coming as a warranty replacement today for my DX2, I know how to freeze/remove apps with TiBu, but I've never re-odex'd. is it pretty simple to do? I want to start out with debloated stock experience as this will be my first HTC/Sense phone and go from there but I definitely want to be able to optimize it. Thanks.
Give it a try. It's under option reintegrate sys into dalvik.
I like it this way because if you want to theme somehing you can reverse it and re-odex again.
TiBu is the best 6 bucks I've paid for any app.
