[Q] Wrong resolution in videoplayback - Desire General

Hello all
I've seached and searched but cannot find a solution...
I have recorded many movieclips with my digitalcamera of my family on vacations and so on which I would like to watch on my Desire. The format is MP4.
My problem is that there are many videoplayers on the market that plays mp4 but they all play the videos in a wrong resolution. As if the program zooms in and only shows a small part of the movie...?
Only Rockplayer is able to show the correct format but since I'm not rooted I would very much like a smaller aplication...
The strange thing though is that the build in player used to play in the correct resolution/format but now also zooms in... Is there a way to change this back?
I hope you will help me!

Would someone be kind enough to tell me how to load videos for album player?

I'm trying to play a .mp4 video using Album Player and can't seem to get it to load. When I try playing the video either Pocket Player comes up (horrible playback as it's very slow) or it winds up in pictures and videos (doesn't play at all).
When I click on the file and go to "open with" the list shows Pocket Player or Pictures and Videos.
I'm sorry but I've ran a search here and on PPC Geeks and I know I saw a thread a couple of days on how to do this. The problem is that there are now too many threads about people mentioning how hard it is to watch video on this device. I'm almost afraid to install 6.5 now because who knows what that will break (sorry for the rant).
Thank you for your help.
Hi, you can try to associate the file in Total Commander with HTCAlbum.exe

[Q] HD Video Playback and Framerate

Before I start, let me clarify that this is about playback of stored videos files (avi, mp4, wmv, mov, etc), not recording frame rate or the playback of recorded videos from the phone. Searching yielded hundreds of results, but none of them fit the scope of my question as far as I could tell. If there is something out there, please link and excuse this question.
So, my question and issue is pretty straight forward: whenever I try to play video files I have (IE: downloaded mp4 files), I get really really poor frame rates. Poor meaning 7-13 frames per second.
So the video sucks, and plays in a fairly smooth slow motion. The sound is fine, causing the video to go out of sync, and once the audio timeline ends the video file closes. The built-in player won't even load them, but RockPlayer does. I think I tried xyplayer as well. I figure this is just a codec / software issue, but all lower resolution video files (same format) play fine, so it seems to be unrelated to the applications I'm using. 800x640 video files, no problem; 1280x720 video files, not gonna happen. The videos play fine on a computer, obviously, and my buddy's Windows Phone 7 plays them fine as well (Zune software).
Any ideas?
what bitrate are the videos that skip?
I don't have many on my phone right now, but one of them is 741Kbps, about one third larger than another video that plays perfectly fine, albeit at a lower resolution. Admittedly I know very little about video encoding and all of that.
What rom are you using?
Currently Burnt Droid (1.4), but I've had the same problem on other roms (sense). I recall having this issue on an AOSP rom once, but I can't say that with complete confidence.
Bump; is this really not an issue for people? I can try and grab a sample video if that helps? I figured this would be a more global thing, not just me. The main reason I need (or want) this to work is because all of my online class lectures are recorded in this format and being able to watch the lectures on the go would be extremely beneficial.
I can play a 4gb hd rip of avatar on my phone in rockplayer (hardware mode) with no skipping
please post a link to a vid your having problems with

Hmm, ok, so it took that sentence for me to realize I'm an idiot. I've tried hardware mode with every video file I have put on my phone (avi, mp4, wmv), but wasn't surprised when they didn't play-- if they did, couldn't I just use the stock video player?-- but my school files for example are .mp4, which should play, but I guess the system player doesn't support whatever encoding/bitrate these videos are made with? Does this mean I won't get this to work unless I re-encode / convert the files I have into a new mp4 the phone will support natively?
Excuse my ignorance on the issue; I guess my understanding of the application and android system is more limited than I initially thought.

Video Lag issues

Hello, I am having issues playing all sort of video files on a t-mobile defy with stock 2.2.1 , very low resolution videos play fine, but when the video has a higer resolution than 480X320 i get a ton of lag, video and sound are of sync and pixelation. I tried killing all apps and it somehow help. I tried vplayer (the best so far-but paid), movoplayer, vital player, summer player and nothing seems to work as it should. Does anyone had this same issue and found a solution? Does rooting the phone will help? Any assistance will be appreciated

Hello, I had the same problem, I have a Defy Rooted with Pays ROM, I think is not neccesary to root your phone to get quality videos playing fine.
I solved the playing issues with rockplayer, you can found the Rock Player Lite version and test it, is working great for me, including 720p videos !
Hope can help you
Sorry for my bad English
Try mobo player...............not much lag

Can't play a video file

Hello
Currently I am using the Jokawild ROM and Doomkernel V13
I don't know if the issue is related to the rom but anyways...
I can't play this certain video file. It is in .avi format its huge 699mb (around 1 hour and 32 seconds) and the resolution is 640x256.
I have tried using the default video player, moboplayer, and quickpic player and none of them seem to work. The video just opens then closes again. No error message at all.
I can view videos I took with the camera perfectly fine.
What could the problem be and how can I fix it. Thank you so much
It seems its something wrong with the video...can u play it on anything else beside ur phone if u can try convert it again maybe a different format like MP4
It works fine on my computer.
I had a glitch like that with some anime episodes that were AVI. The video ended up playing with diceplayer, when mobo and daroon didn't work.
Thank you it works with Diceplayer.

"youtube like" video player for offline viewing

hi,
well... i'm the strange one, but while everyone is complaining about not able to get real full screen in some cases when you play a video, i'm on the other side, i'm looking for a video player where i could watch videos like how youtube looks like in tablet mode, when you can see other thumbnails next to your video.
before call me crazy, let me explain :cyclops: i love my nexus, i've bought it mainly for its screen, and it is great - but sadly... only when you have hd feed, (oh i love it in hd, and real full screen is great)
unfortunately i do have a lot of music video from the web, and some are really low res. i did change the audio tracks from lossless sources, but couldn't find the videos in better quality, so when i playback my favorite mv's, most of them look awful on the big screen over larged 200% or sometimes 300% :crying: i can of course playback in real size on full screen so the quality is not too bad, but it looks really weird - the big black screen with a tiny video at the center. on the other hand when i watch them on youtube (without playing in full screen) they look ok more or less, the other thumbnails next to the now playing one fill up the empty space.
i'm not sure if such a player exist, but again, i often think something is impossible, then later i find it.
does anyone know something?
Okay this might not be what exactly you are looking for but I think what you really want is a video player where you can resize the playing window so that if the video you are watching happens to be low quality, you can resize it to a smaller frame. In that case try the app Super Video by GPC on the market. It's basically a floating window video player and when you are playing a video, you can resize the window to any size you want. Hope that's useful.

thanks for the tip, it is not bad at all, it would be close enough.
sadly it won't play smoothly. i did install the sw decoder pack or whatever was the name and now plays my files, but the audio is a bit async, and the video freezes or get blocks all over the screen, look like when a slow pc tries to play full hd files... also it takes 10 mins to load 23 thumbnails, then when i close the app, and reopen it starts again, navigating amongst the videos also freezes the app, have no idea what it is. i have mx player, it plays 720p movies smoothly, but these low quality mv's should not be a problem for any player
any idea?
Hmm I haven't really tested this app a lot so I'm afraid I can't help you. I used it to play some videos which I took with the phone's camera and it played fine. If I have to guess then it probably has problems with certain codices and you might be able to fix the problem by reencoding the videos with a different format, but that might be more trouble than it's worth.

i reinstalled it with the codecs as well, and now plays well
but something is still not perfect, because when i played one video, and wanted to start the next one, it froze - totally, i had to remove the battery...
anyway, i keep trying, but now i know at least that it's possible, just seen on youtube that galaxy s3 have this feature by default
thanks again
