Sorry if this has already been brought up.. I did some searching and didn't find anything on this. For the past few days I am all of a sudden getting this error showing up on my screen. It will pop up on it's own and I'm not sure if something is really wrong or if its actually an issue that I need to contact Sprint for. Below is the Exact message that I am getting.
"Streaming on your HTC EVO Device
Streaming quality on your HTC EVO may be impacted by a known issue with the Sprint carrier network. To resolve this issue, please contact Sprint at 888-211-4727. Let them know that you are having trouble streaming multimedia on the HTC EVO with software version 3.70.651.1.
Don't show this again"
I have rooted my phone and just running the base Sprint rooted image so far.. I haven't decided on which ROM I want to try next. So my question is has anyone else seen this problem yet and if you have what have you done to resolve this or did you actually contact Sprint on this? I have a funny feeling that Sprint is going to want to push or have me re-download the update. Which we all know will reload the ROM and wipe Root.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated and again if this has already been discussed and I just couldn't find it I've missed it. Sorry!
That's interesting. I wonder what that's all about.

Still haven't got this. It's not just your Evo though. This is happening to a lot of people.
I got the same message. Im completely unrooted on my 0002 hardware that I got last June. I called sprint and they seemed even more clueless than usual. They didn't even seem to bebe aware that the message went. Practically hung up when the Guy suggested a hard reset.
But everything seems to be working fine.
So I keep getting the message and decided to call in and see what I found out.. Apparently I got the right person to talk to. Customer service briefly talked with Tech Support and then transferred me to them. They had me do the following:
1. Power off Phone & Pull the battery for about 20 seconds
2. Put the battery back in and power it back on.
3. Goto Menu - Settings - System Updates - Update Profile.
After doing this I still had the error message but I believe that message was there before I got the update to my profile. So I then restarted my phone one more time. After that reboot I don't have the message again. So we will see what happens.
He is also going to be calling me back sometime today to see how things are. This is something that apparently is happening to the EVO phones (according to him). I asked him if I needed to update the PRI and he said that he had it push all the settings to the phone when I choose the "Update Profile". So I told him I would run with it for the day and see what happens.
Just in case anyone else sees this problem. I will add more as I know more.
The Issue is The Amazon Cloud Player
When users try to stream music from this app over 3G/4G, they may receive a network error notification. Amazon has an update that includes a work around but advises that users contact Sprint to get a longterm solution to the issue. When I contacted Sprint, they sent a profile update.
I only received this message once since I updated to the last version of Amazon Cloud Player. I haven't seen it since.
after reading this last night i got the same notice this morning and my 3G no longer works. just tried the profile update and it failed saying to try again later. gonna have to figure this one out
Edit: multiple reboots, no fix. Battery pull, fixed. Anyone able to explain that one?
The only real conclusion I can come up with is either they made a change on their system. They obviously aren't going to acknowledge that one. But I have seen this popping up in different places more now. After the initial call I made the other day I have seen it pop up 1 other time. I haven't contacted them again yet to let them know that my problem still exists. I guess I'll keep looking for the fix and hope someone stumbles across it. But I really think there has been a change since I haven't had this problem until recently. I'm going to call back in and see if I can get someone who might have a better idea of the network and see if I can get some acknowledgment from them. I'll let everyone know my findings.

I called the number it gave me on my phone from the same message, got sent to tech help. He didn't know what to do so I got sent to another tech desk that forced a prl update. It worked for a couple hours then i got the message again. Ive found I only get the message when my phone is set to sprint only.
Call sprint again and talk to a tech. They have a script now for this.

Get your msl ....update prl then remove http proxy settings. Update data profile forced method....enjoy
From what some others have found the message is initiated by the recent Amazon mp3 app update. The streaming issue has been present since before christmas....app dev's are getting tired of getting calls over what is really a sprint issue.

I've been seeing this problem for a few weeks now, with several different ROMs, including the original rooted stock ROM now. In nearly all of my recent calls, I get disconnected one or more times with the message "Call disconnected" and a "Dismiss" button. I'm thinking that this is because of my EVO and not the other side, since usually if they accidentally hang up or something the call just ends without a message box. As far as I can tell, I have good reception (at least according to the bars), and this is happening at home, where I've not had the problem before.
Does anyone know what could be causing this? My wife's EVO is not rooted, and she does not seem to be having this problem. But then again, I've not had the problem until fairly recently either. I've tried updating my profile and PRL with each new ROM, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to stop this from happening?
Go into the settings menu andbupdate both your PRL and your profile. That *should* help with reception related issues.

Unfortunately, I've tried both of those things. I just did some testing today, and it seems that my phone is unable to stay connected during a phone call for more than five minutes before disconnecting, even if I don't touch the phone and just leave it sitting on a table.
Any other ideas? As far as I know, I haven't ever flashed my radio away from its default (2.15.00.11.19), and I'm currently using the leaked stock gingerbread ROM (build number 4.12.651.1 CL41771 release-keys and kernel 2.6.35.10-gaa602b7 [email protected] #1).
Maybe it's time to unroot and contact Sprint?
You can try downgrading from 2.15.00.11.19 to 2.15.00.09.01. You can download it from http://www.mediafire.com/file/jyedjkp1bm5amwm/EVO_Radio_2.15.00.09.01.zip
Afterwards, go into recovery, wipe cache & dalvik cache then flash the zip. You will be taken to the radio update screen and appear to hang. don't worry or get impatient. After it is finished, you will reboot into recovery and see the words "clearing cache" at the top of the screen. Simply select reboot and then you will boot to your homescreen. The initial boot will take a tad longer since it will be rebuilding the dalvik.
Hmm... I'm hesitant to downgrade my radio because my wife has an EVO with the same radio version number and hers doesn't have this problem. Granted, she is not rooted...
I understand. I've downgraded and upgraded everything several times for testing purposes and troubleshooting purposes and have never had a problem. The only hing about flashing radios is patience and not to pull the battery. Anyway, you can always call Sprint and see if they can troubleshoot it for you from their end.

I would contact sprint @ 877-809-6696 (advanced tech supp). Ask them to push a full reprovision to your device. See if that helps any. I was having issues when when on the airave, I was unable to receive incoming calls. This corrected it. I did try all the other steps listed above without any success.
This is interesting. I unrooted to test things out before calling Sprint, and the problem went away. I was able to stay connected for an hour (where before I couldn't last longer than 10-15 minutes). Yay, fixed, right? So, I rooted again and didn't install any ROMs or anything, just rooted, and the problem came back.
So, I have a solution, but I don't like it very much because it means I need to stay unrooted. Anyone have any idea why simply rooting the phone with Unrevoked 3 (and doing nothing else) could cause calls to disconnect? I'd love to be able to root again, but I can't deal with a phone that randomly disconnects all the time.
I am interested in this as well as I am rooted using unrevoked and get disconnected as well. I do find that it mainly happens though talking to people who have service on AT&T.. Quite wierd. All I hear is a beep then disconnected. This happens when I first place a call and it rings once or twice then beep, disconnected...
This may not be related to rooting. I'm still communicating with Sprint about this issue, and along they way they replaced my phone entirely, and the problem is still happening. Very frustrating, but it makes it very clear that the problem actually has nothing to do with the hardware. I'm pretty sure there is some network configuration problem on their end now. I'm waiting to root my new phone until this issue has been resolved. It is killing me!

So whats the final call on this ..?
Is it Rooting , Is it network .. i am too getting psyche with this .
I'm pretty sure it is not rooting. But I don't yet know for certain what it is. Sprint thought there might be something wrong with the antenna on my phone, but they had already replaced the phone, so I think that is unlikely. They gave me a femtocell range extender to use in my house. Basically, I plug it into my broadband connection, and it is like having a mini cell tower in my house, giving me a very strong connection. Sure enough, when connected to that, I haven't had any calls drop. However, my phone still sometimes doesn't connect to the femtocell and instead connects to some other tower for some reason. My wife's phone doesn't do this, so I still think there is something wrong with my phone. I may contact Sprint again about this. ...sigh...
What is your area some area evo don't work properly like on rahim yar khan in this time connection don't work properly some signal drop and some time up i sure after few day signal work properly then problems will be solve.
My phone EVO is doing this now as well. Has anyone heard/read a solution?

I am having the same issue, out of the blue. No problems up until a few days ago. I'm wondering if it is maybe an issue with a certain version of the Evo. I have a version 002. Thoughts?
Greg_99 any progress on what might be causing this issue?
Ok, I have been having problems with trying to get these working. I even thought after a fresh update to 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) with ODIN that it would fix the problem but I get the same messages. I believe this is also causing my voicemails not to come to my phone as well. The message I am getting is:
"Error: An error occured while trying to update your PRL. Please try again later. If the problem persists, please call customer care.
Error: Unknown Error"
What could be causing this....
Thanks,
Frank
Mine has done this since November, albeit off and on. It completely stopped working back when the 60676 prl was released for me.
You can read the thread in the development forum on upgrading your prl manually. Otherwise, the only thing I've read on this topic is that it is between a bug in the software and an issue on Sprint's end.
Did it cause your voicemail not to work as well? I am not getting any ever since this happened.

The only time I've had voicemail not work is when I had my phone uptime in the days range. A simple reboot fixed the problem for my issue.
Since you are having voicemail issues too, I'd suggest bringing your phone into a Sprint service center. At the very least, you can get these issues noted on your account.
Thanks, I might just have to do that.
This has been happening to me for the last couple of days. Out of the blue my phone will pop this error: Data call failure. Error code 128. Unable to establish wireless data connection. I have done some research on this error message and most of the things I found had to do with using the phone as a hot spot. I am not using that feature. I am using a custom rom that I have had on for a couple of months now. Nothing has changed on my phone. I have tried updating the prl and then updating the profile. I have pulled the battery and left it off for half an hour. None of the other phones on my account have this issue. It is particular to my phone only. Is it this something I can call sprint about and they can reset or do I need to flash my radio again or take it in to sprint?
Had the same thing happen to me today. Called sprint and they said there was a data issue going on in my area. I say its rubbish but whatever.

That's been happening to me all day today. I thought it was maybe the kernel I installed today (more freedom) but after seeing this maybe it was the earthquake on the east coast causing problems with the network?
I have been getting these errors all day today as well.
i've been getting it all day... I thought it was kernel
I keep getting that error to. Thought i messed up my phone. Guess it was the earth quake, That **** was crazy though, never felt one before. Anyway after it happened i lost service on my phone for like 2 hours, kept getting beeping noises when i would try to make a call.
Sorry to hear others having this problem as well but I am glad that it probably isn't my phone. I would hate to get my evo replaced with a newer one that can't be rooted.
I know running CM7 right now and getting no 3g speeds right. Lame. But I got wifi though.

It can be rooted! These Dev's don't let us down, come-on man.
This started happening to me after the earthquake. In NYC
you mean Virgina? But yes, the last few days especially today after the quake. Ivebeen getting it alot.
I just had to reinstall synergy because it started freakingout saying that my andriod process had stop working, and a media process stopped working. was driving me insane.
Yeah know issue with Sprint call tech and do ctms ticket and maybe prl update or maybe * 18. The issue may be cleared by now .
Just the last couple days? I been getting these errors on and off for months now... before I rooted, and bricked my phone, so I'd say it has something to do with sprint not having enough bandwidth... or something like that anyway....
data call failure error 128
My Evo 4G started getting this Data Call Failure Error 128 last week (Wed), also only when I unlock... It is only a message, but everything works fine afterwards. It would happen about 5 times a day.
Then I went to Mexico for the weekend (3 days) and was roaming over there. Not once did the message pop up. Everything was fine, roaming data, text messages, phone calls. Thought everything was fixed. Came back on Monday and once I was on the Sprint network, started receiving the messages again on unlock.
I updated PRL and Profile and everything. That didn't stop it. Tried changing from Sprint to automatic roaming and that didn't really do anything. I thought it was a couple of apps i had (like Green Power that turns off data and turns it back on) but uninstalled it and the messages kept popping up. Tried enabling always-on data and that seems to work but that drains the battery faster than usual. Been searching all android forums looking for others in this situation and it seems like only a Sprint/HTC issue (Evo 4G, 3D and Shift). This is getting very annoying. It happens about 5 times a day.
My wife thinks that it's Sprint fixing and adjusting their network getting ready for the iPhone rush.
Wow, glad to know that I'm not the only one. I think that I had somehow did something wrong with my phone. I keep on getting these Data Call Failure - Error Code 128 messages several times a day. I tried reflashing a new rom, then doing it again. Must not be the rom, but Sprint. Annoying!!!!
it was just a sprint issues
Also cannot call the *2 or the *4 automated lines to sprint, get a busy signal and pop up saying "network is busy try again later", but can get through to sprint on a landline just fine. Apparently I cannot connect to what the sprint tech says is the "automated lines". I continue to get the error code 128 repeatedly, whether on wifi, 3g or 4g, and Sprints only "remedy" is to do a factory re-set which I have read has not affect.
I have done the OTA update to 2.3.4 and found that I could no longer receive any texts. I've looked at the other treads that seem related and there aren't any solutions that worked for me.
I am rooted so my carrier won't help... which is fine. We have a great online community to support one another... I hope
I have CWM 5.0.2.0 and have tried several ROMs thinking that it may be related... no luck. At this point, everything seems to work just great other than I can't receive any texts.
Someone, please help me resolve this???
Thanks in advance,
Doug
I had a similar situation except I couldn't make or receive phone calls either. Despite being rooted and God knows whatever else I've done to this phone I called Verizon. My phone had somehow lost its authentication (I think that's the right term) code. They fixed it since it was a freak glitch with their system.
It must be noted that this happened to me like a month ago, well before this update, so you may have a different issue altogether. But figured I would pass this along since it sounds familiar.

I'm not alone... http://bit.ly/o3VHty
I did a search on Twitter (can't receive text) to see if others were expressing this trouble... and there are many that are noticing now that they too are unable to receive texts. There must be something systemic somewhere... it's not all the same carrier, not the same phone, ... makes a person wonder. Thanks for letting me know about your authentication issue. I took my phone into Verizon and they said my account is fine, they did a factory reset, ... later I wiped the cache, dalvik, redid the factory reset, went into Application Settings and cleared all data... all to no avail. I'm beginning to wonder if I have wasted all that time and effort for a problem that resides somewhere out there... *sigh* I hope someone finds out what's going on soon.
Have you done a *228 option 1. It should fix it if its an authentication problem.
Authentication not the issue
I have done *228 option 1 ~ also option 2. Verizon has looked at my phone and my account and says there isn't anything that should be causing this. Their bottom line response "unofficially" was to unroot my phone and then bring it back in to get a replacement phone. They think it is due to a software incompatibility. Hmm... several factory resets later, I'm thinking not. Strangely, it only started right after I got the OTA gingerbread update... so if it's software... ? I don't know what to think about it at this point.
Thanks for the reply and specific thoughts of what to try.
Doug
Well that's odd. I would still suggest that it isn't anything you've done since there are many more out there and I guarantee the majority of them have probably never even heard of rooting...I wonder if Verizon pushed out a bad update on the particular day you got the OTA? Is it even possible for them to do that lol?
http://androidforums.com/incredible-support-troubleshooting/414833-cant-receive-text-messages-missed-nieces-birth.html#post3218331
Found the answer. Wish Verizon knew about this too.
not sure where to begin, i suppose by listing my phone specs after root--
using the galaxy s2, (epic 4g touch) using kernal 2.6.35-8lostkernelexp+, build number starburst 11.13.11 v1.9.8r and running nothing but the honey theme.
until today, everything seemed to work fine, then suddenly, i was unable to send pictures via text. not a real big issue, but i travel alot and sending pics back home by messages i a big deal for me. however, normal text's would go through, just not any pics. i could send and receive normal words with no issues.
then, totally lost internet connection--although the 3g is lit up on top, and i have 4 full bars of signal, i cannot surf, all i get is "unable to display webpage". since im at home, i turned on the wifi option and connected through the router in my house, and all worked fine-- i got online, send pic texts, etc...but when i turned wifi off, nothing.
now, back when i rooted the phone, i still kept getting the annoying "system update" messages that the phone normally does, forcing me to install whatever update the phone grabs. to prevent that, i did the steps on this site which was here--
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ght=freeze+ota
and disabled my update notifications. well, back to the beginning--now i have no internet at all and god only knows what else is wrong that i have yet to discover.
only thing i can think of at this point, is to unroot the phone , return it to the way it was and see how it goes but i dont want to do that--
any ideas?
since i made the post, i been playing around with the phone. ive reflashed the rom, reinstalled the nothin but honey theme, no changes.....
have NO internet what so ever, no market place, etc...
only way i can get online on the phone is through wifi.....
somethin has happened.... please help??
of course i cant call sprint tech support because of the root so thats not an option.
I'd love to help
You can always backup (Nandroid) then Odin back to stock. Then flash a different rom. WITHOUT THE THEME Hope this helps
thanks, but if at all possible, id rather see if it can be fixed before i do all that. i found another thread that said just reflash it and such, which i did-- no change...
again, only way i can get online is by wifi--- so far, dont seem to have any other issues but desperately need to get the regular internet connection to work, dont know what happened, just quit totally today for whatever reason.
anyone, please?
Try flashing just a different Modem.
Then Update Profile and PRL.
You'll want to check the General forum where you posted this exact same question. Some good advice there.

Check the general forums as suggested or just Reflash the Modem (radio's).
