I didn't find much on a search.
Is it possible to increase the power of the vibration motor from a software side.
I don't know if it's just me, but short of holding my phone in my hand, I can rarely every tell when the vibrator is active.
This would be rather helpful. I'm interested.

I use a program call "Smart Vibrator" I got from the Android Market for free. You can customize the pattern to be long or short.
I'll try it out. Thanks neslerrah.

Is there a mod out there that can be applied to the ota that let's us power on the screen with the trackpad? Reminds me of my old Eris.

I'm pretty sure last time I checked that remapping the trackball was not possible

It is possible. I do believe Chads kernel comes with it. That or CM7 has it. I can do it with my phone, at least. It doesn't always work on the first press, so you sometimes have to hold it down. I noticed when I'm charging it works first time, every time. Unsure why that is though.

You can use Button Remapper from the market or google it. Also Sky Raiders, OVO, Synergy, CM7 and most roms that are not stock have the option for trackepad wale

if you poke around in /system/usr/keylayout you can find two files "incrediblec-keypad.kl" and "qwerty.kl" these two handle the mapping of the keys so that android OS knows how to handle they key events.
I don't have the OTA so I haven't tested it but back in the day you would find the DPAD_CENTER line and change it from WAKE_DROPPED to WAKE.
I played a lot with these files because I really wanted a decicated CAMERA button and the OJ was perfect for me. Hope this helps and I wish I could test this before I started making suggestions to you. Good luck.

As far as the why, it is because the phone screen is still "Awake" if I remember correctly. If you power your phone off then immediately press the optical button, your screen will come on but it won't if you wait say five seconds. I've noticed the same as what you stated occur in one of Nils' older gingersense roms.

Huh, weird lol. Never noticed that myself. I usually don't lock then unlock lol. Quite interesting, though.

It's a feature on Sense devices, and CM ROMs, and I was hoping if someone has found an app that does this. For those who haven't used a Sense device or CM or even WM device, it basically just vibrates for a couple of milliseconds as soon as the call connects. It's useful because you can just hold it rather than wait with it in ear or leave it on a table. All my google searches have come up empty handed ):. Unless I missed something; does anybody know an app that has this function?
+1 I always had this on my SGS2, really miss it.
+1 here, i was able to get this feature by using Touchpal dialer, however, since i updated to 4.0.4, it no longer works. any other help ?
if you install Go Launcher and then in phone settings you can activate vibration. even if you don't use go dialer will vibrate when you answer. I'm not developer but i think some mod for reg could resolve the problem,
Search "CallVibrate" on the Play Store it works for me

With our beloved HTC Desire devices getting a bit aged, I expect the wear-related problems will start to increase.
I am having an issue with the BACK button (the one with the arrow on, at the bottom, second from the right) that does not respond easily. It takes numerous "convincing" keypress attempts to get it to eventually perform the action. So I guess the switch is worn out?
What would be the easiest way to rectify this problem, or is a patient wait until upgrade-time the answer?

You can try a rom with on screen buttons like the one in my signature! It'll have the same buttons on screen like the galaxy nexus.
Or you could make the d-pad do the back function. System>usr>keylayout and edit the bravo-keypad. I made my search button act like the volume down button, since that one's broken.

It could be the ROM issue too. After changing a couple of roms, I've found that key responsiveness changes, try CM10 based builds. I'm using elk759's
Thank you so much for the suggestions so far! I'll try them out . If anyone has other suggestions, please feel free to help

hi all
first time poster long time reader
I am so tired of trying **** apps.
Could somebody please tell me what app works with the nexus four to allow me to touch the screen somehow to see a text message etc when it arrives??
for the first time ever I am missing the button in my iPhone that let's me hit it to see what is going on at a glance.
I just want a way to toggle the screen on without hitting the power button on the Nexus 4
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The only way to do this is to leave the screen on, which would drain the battery. There's probably an app that would turn the screen off (or dim it), but this would keep your phone awake and drain the battery.
Someone feel free to chime in and correct me if there is such an app.

For the Gnex there's an app called “PGM", I emailed the developer if he had intention to update the app so it works with the Nexus⁴, but sadly he doesn't have the phone yet.

There is an app for that called tap tap app uses proximity sensor to lock and unlock screen.
Not positive is works on 4.2 but worth a shot.

Just wait for PGM to be updated for Nexus 4 support, OP; I can vouch for its greatness. You can enable double tap or slide to unlock gesture to turn the screen on. Once you get used to this, you seriously forget you have a power button.

It appears to work, but needs some calibration. I'm only able to get it working 30% of the time (if even).
you may try Smart Screen On : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.android.smartscreenonlite

I'm waiting on a kernel that has Sweep2Wake...that would be awesome with this phone.
Wow I cannot believe the responses I got...
Thanks everyone!
I settled on the Smart Screen On.
Works about 75% of the time...I can live with that till something better comes along.
I don't really understand why you cannot make text msgs received light the screen up like it does on an iphone. It was so convenient to just glance at the phone and see it was work texting yet again and mutter under my breath for them to piss off and then go back to playing Xbox without ever having to touch the phone.

with GoSMS i always choose the option for the pop up box and the options to unlock the phone, so when it's sitting on my desk next to me it lights up

Try Light flow for that... I think you can set a custom LED color and the screen to come on with certain notifications.
Yeah I've got Light Flow. You can set the LED colour and the screen to come on with some notifications. There is a 'lite' version which should cover the basics. But if you dont use the stock messenger or use things like Whatapp, you need the paid for version.
I use it and it has great customisation BUT at the moment I can't get it to work 100% of the time. So be warned!
It will be great though once they update it for 4.2.

For now I'm settling for half of the equation; screen off with a double tap. I'm using screen off and lock from Play.
I had PGM on my GN and it works very well, the developer is planning on getting an N4 the last I heard.
I'm currently looking into getting the phone to wake using the volume rocker -- I'm reading that it's inside android.policy.jar and removing two lines that ignore the volume rocker button presses.
Anyone want to give it a go? I'm going to look into it this weekend.

I emailed him too! That is one of the best app out there, in terms of the idea behind it. No real battery drain, but still be able to wake your device from sleep. I died a little after getting that email.
Kinda hope someone would do something like that for N4.
You can use Tasker+Secure Settings (pro version) to use the Google Now shortcut to unlock/lock the device, but there is no waking the device.
I too am waiting for pgm! That would be amazing

Hi all,
I've got an issue; when trying to receive an incoming call on my WFS, the screen fails to wake and thus I fail to answer the call. I've searched a round for a solution, on XDA and on Google but none of them quite hit the nail on the head.
When my phone rings, I would normally simply pick up the phone and press answer, but now the power button doesn't wake the phone up and I ALWAYS miss the call. This is, understandably, getting very annoying.
Any help anyone can provide would be very helpful.
Cheers

Thanks for the feedback.
In the end, i cut my loses and upgraded to the most recent nightly. This solved the problem nicely

for all those who dosent want to change ROM go to settings>display>automatic backlite>screen dim level and change it to 1. hope fully it will remove your wakeup problem at low brightness.
