I have 2 desires, 1 motherboard water damaged, but screen is ok and says amoled on the box, it turns on but does some weird and strange things but screen is good,
when i say water damage a bit of condinsation not flooded,
The second one has a damaged screen and digitiser again turns on but screen black and white, on the box for that one also says amoled
I all i have done is swapped motherboard over to make one good desire but i get the blank screen with working buttons and the buzz just as if its been flashed with the wrong rom as the slcd brick, it has the exact same symptoms, so with the help of some fantastic threads here I have a working goldcard, downgraded with teppics tool used unrevoked3 and flashed a couple of correct roms and still nothing, I have swapped motherboards back an forth to make sure i haven;t bricked or damaged anything and they contnue to be the same as before i started, I've swapped ribbons and other bits of hardware around and still the same.
can anyone give me any light or help please its been very frustrating, i also have spent an eternity with a magnifying glass to see if any plugs/ conectors have any problems, still looks like a software issue but i think i have done everything, I have also been able to enable usb debuuging with out the screen, (that was fun lol)
Shoulda just sent it back to HTC
in hindsight i wish i had trying to save myself a few pennys that i haven't got at the moment and with 2 sitting here with different problems i thought to get a good one out of the 2 and pass the other onto some one for spares
the box i'm using the motherboard from hasn't the imei number on it so it might not be the right box, so it possible the motherboard i'm using is from an slcd phone, would there be a problem using an slcd motherboard into an amoled screened phone even tho i've done all the above, and now running RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed ?

Hi,
My AMOLED went crazy after 6 month, purchased a new LCD (link, ebay..), trying to install it I damaged the Digitizer's flex (attached), Qs; this one says ...USA are there different types?, would the LCD come on with the Digitizer's flex damaged? mind didn't! is this normal.
Just ordered a new Digitizer, will try to install once received.
Kindly advise on how to do it and/or your thoughts if you have had similar experience.
Thanks.
Yes, nothing to worry about. I have replaced many digitizers and LCD screens. The LCD and digitzer are seperate components, they are not connected with each other. Bottomline, you don't need to worry .
But if you have a amoled phone, you can only use amoled and not SLCD. Otherwise the screen won't come on. Tried it myself and it didn't work.

Many thanks Lenny,
Unfortunately, I'm told; if the LCD is installed and the phone turned on, this will brick the phone, which I already did so I assume it is bricked!!
My Desire was imported and returning it to HTC isn't an option, any thoughts on other solutions or should I just give it to my 5 year old to play with??
I appreciate your reply.
No this is not true.
I am not really sure what you mean, but I will try to explain.
If you have a phone with an AMOLED screen, you can not use a SLCD. Tried it myself and it didn't work. The screen wil not turn on. So you must order an AMOLED.
You cannot brick your phone by placing a SLCD. Buy an AMOLED screen on ebay and your phone will come on again.
This is the serial number for AMOLED: 60H00287.
Just search for that number on ebay and you will get lots of results.
And even if you're digitzer is damaged, the phone will turn on but you won't have a working touchscreen. But your AMOLED will work.
I hope this answers all of your questions. And if not then I will try to answer them all

Tank you, Thank you, Thank you...
Many thanks, this is the response I got on htcdesireforum dot com: (http://www.htcdesireforum.com/htc-d...lacing-amoledlcd-digitizer/new/?topicseen#new)
[REPLY]"Putting an SLCD screen in an AMOLED Desire will brick the phone as soon as you try to turn it on, which means you'd have to send it back to HTC for a repair which will cost you nearly as much as a new phone. Not only the screens are different, the motherboards are too (to make the screen work properly). So make sure you get an AMOLED screen first."
The SLCD actually come on in my phone (green lines screen, attached).
Are there different types of digitizers too, for (LCD/AMOLED)? I ask as I have already ordered one from eBay, the same provider.
Also the number you provided seem to lead only to LCDs not AMOLEDs: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=60H00287&_sacat=See-All-Categories would these work?
AMOLEDs search seem different; http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=amoled+htc+desire&_sacat=See-All-Categories
Just trying to avoid more unnecessary spending but if you have tried it I will order a new AMOLED..
Regards.
Hmm that is strange, that did not happen with me lol.
Do you now what rom you have on your phone? Do you have a stock rom? Are you rooted? etc, if you still have a old rom on your phone we can try one more thing before you order a new amoled screen.

Lennyz,
Yes my Desire was rooted, can't recall what ROM but I have used the Unrevoked Rooting App and later I think I used [ROM] [29/10] Pre-rooted Stock Froyo (2.10.405.2) [Optional mods]..

Which is the correct one?
Please let me know..
Thanks.
No there is only one type of digitizer for the desire. The one you ordered is the correct one.
The number I provided is AMOLED.
P/N: 60H00287-00P ( By Samsung )
The seller just labeled it differently. If you look at the picture you can see a tiny Samsung logo.
All these are AMOLED.

Great, thanks..
Now I'm even more confused! please see attached pic of both the back of the box the Desire came in and the tag at the back of the original display.. all indicate that my display is actually S-LCD not AMOLED and if so why isn't it coming on?
Sorry to be a pain, couldn't do it without your help..
That is really strange, are you sure your plugged in the connector properly? You indeed have an SLCD.
In your first post you said that your screen went going crazy after 6 months. What do you mean by this? What did your screen do?
I hope we can fix this.
btw, you don't have your broken digitizer plugged in do you? If so unplug it and try again.
And delete your picture of your box, it displays your IMEI etc, it's better if no one else has this

Lennyz,
Guess what -don't laugh- the display I purchased is an AMOLED by Samsung (attached) so it is the other way around; I purchased an AMOLED for an S-LCD device!
The initial problem was that my original display started fading the image, very whitish but touch responsive..
Just replaced the original LCD, the phone would vibrate on turn on bot nothing on the screen, I guess I bent/damaged it further in removing it..
What next just get a digitizer?
Thanks..

Haha atleast you know what the problem is. What you need:
- New SLCD screen. Where do you live? I have a spare SLCD left (same thing as you ordered the wrong one )
- New digitizer.
Then you are good to go Let me know how it worked out. Good luck.

this is strange as i have swapped slcd and amoled from one phone to another and they both worked just fine..
not bricked or anything.

Lennyz,
I live in St. Lucia in The Caribbean, it would be great if you can sell/ship it to me, let me know the costs please.
Or I can swap you mine if you need an AMOLED
Not sure why this Desire is acting the way it is, according to fridaycider screens can be swapped and would work..
Will see.

On a Desire?
Yes on a desire . Posted this about a month or so ago . I had an amoled desire with a reboot problem , purchased a slcd desire and swapped displays over and sold the faulty desire with slcd screen in . Both phones worked perfectly as regards of display .
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Something else must be wrong as my Desire's screen no longer come on regardless of which display is used..
Will continue on trying.
Thanks for your response
Had 2 Nexus One phones come in for repairs, one with a broken LCD and one with a broken digitizer. Sure enough - one is AMOLED and another is SLCD. The mainboards will be incompatible, even though the connectors fit perfectly well. I guess that gets people confused to a great degree.
One of the points of difference at the first glance, even without going into serials and to avoid confusion - back connectors . SLCD will have an extra flex with a plug attached at the back.
I seriously doubt claims that either variant works with the same board. On either Nexus or Desire.
Hi, I am kinda new to this forum and although I tried to find answer first, I didn't find any.
So today I tried to replace LCD screen on my broken Evo 4G (Sprint) and after many tries when I thought that screen doesnt fit I noticed that the metal casing inside isn't native part so I took it out too. Then the new screen fit very correctly. However, when I turned it on, colorful stripes and faulty pixels appeared and I think now, that I may broke the screen somewhere, although I dont see any cracks visually.
Can the experienced ones of you give me an advice if the screen is broken or what may be wrong? I attach the picture of screen when the phone is on.
Thank you in advance

did you connect it correctly? it looks like you might have damaged the connections, it happens if you didnt lift the little locks up and tried pulling it out
*sorry for the poor vocabulary, i replace screen all the times just not sure what the proper names for the parts are*
I understand what you mean. Does it mean for me that is useless to buy new screen as it would have the same issue or new one sould solve it? I mean if problem is the flex cable or pins on board?

well if it is the flex cable it, then ordering another screen would solve the problem. but if it is the pins then ordering another one would be pointless. theres also a chance the lcd might be faulty. All the LCDs and digitizers that i buy i get them from Amazon :good: and so far all have worked perfectly.
Sounds like damaged pins on board from not releasing the pin cable latches before removing the cable from the board, in which case the phone is fubar and the only way to repair it is to replace the logic board or the device itself
We are legion, for we are many.

I dont see a way how I can recognize damaged pins as from my view it looks they are OK, but if they are easily damaged from inside, then it might be so. I will possibly try to get new screen cause I might use too much force when putting the last one into it.
Or any other guess?
Recently, I took time to replace the screen on my s3. (Just the Screen not the digitizer). After I attached the newer screen, I turned the phone on, theres sound, vibration, etc. But the display is not shown at all. Is it the digitizer that broke? Is it something else that broke?
P.S While I was removing the cracked screen, i accidentally turned on the phone when i was using the s3 phone kit (which was pretty useless imo). Could this have played a role?
Any help is appreciated.
Since the digitizer and lcd are separate parts, a broken digitizer should not cause a blank screen. I have replaced the digitizer on a couple of Samsung phones and the lcd always displayed an image but would not respond to any touches.
Is it possible the lcd is defective?

If you can see an image on the screen, the LCD is not defective. If you can see an image but it doesn't respond to touches, the digitizer could be defective, the phone's motherboard is defective, there is a bad connection between the digitizer and motherboard, or all three.

Does that mean, that I need to buy another screen and test it out? I can't really test out the other parts you were talking about because, the screen does not display any image at all.
Since you can't see an image, it could be the LCD. Is there a repair shop where you could askl them to test your LCD?

That burn in is really bad. It's got to be a problem with your screen, and not common to all G4s or we'd be seeing others complaining by now.
I've seen phones that bad in stores, but their screens are on all the time. How much screen time have you had with Opera running?
Good thing the provider is replacing it!

hmm not that long troug. if i use opera a while not it disappears almost completely.
use it agian 2 minutes. its bck

if i got my new phone no opera anymore.
I just can't believe that's from Opera alone. There had to be a problem with the LCD in your phone.
I understand if you don't want to risk it by using Opera anymore but I don't think it'll happen with your new phone.

Lcd on mobile phones normally never get burnins, it's an amoled thingy (samsung phones) and it's an important reason I wont get a note 4 but a G4, so I really hope it was a single defective screen.
Did you try one of the screen retention fix app?
Did you try a factory reset? Call me crazy but it's not normal that a screen burnin doesn't affect white pixels, and it shouldn't do a green stuff, it could be a crazy bug

That's not "backlight leak" or "light bleed" as it's generally called. It's a bad LCD panel.
FYI This is how light bleed on the G4 can look like (It's mine).
I have a new device. So it's solved. But I see more people getting problems with the screen.
That's more likely to be just image retention and not an actual burn in.
Burn in = actual damage since the material gets burnt out than the rest of the other materials in the screen.
Image Retention = the liquid crystals on the LCD haven't fully returned to their original state for the meantime only.
A burn in commonly happens on crt, plasma, oled screens. For the reason that these technologies "burn" a specific material on their screen to produce output. LCD screens like IPS are very less likely to have burn ins but image retention is always possible but not permanent.

So is image retention common, because I've never had this problem until I got the G4 which is my first flagship: every other phone I've had was a budget and never had a problem like this.
I've never had image retention or burn in on any of my LCD phones but have had it on all my OLED/AMOLED phones.

LG used this "Quantum Display" of theirs (A modified type of IPS LCD) which had a different arrangement of pixels and whatnots which would have likely been the reason why image retention was much more common on theirs than other manufacturers' IPS displays, but in return.. the color gamut of their display actually expanded in range and also provided less energy consumption.
Same here LG G4 "screen burnes" all the time!!! - previous screens stay faded over current screens, just like on my old plasma TV... WTF???
I don't know what is screenburn but sometimes I see vertical narrow black stripes popping for a second in the same place, any thoughts what this can be? Is that a faulty display or some software bug, anyone had this issue?
What did other people who had this issue?
Now I'm also having it. Own the phone since ~11month. I recognized it 2 weeks ago, researching the problem. Before I though it would be a graphic error.
Have the plan to write LG about my issue. But have rooted the phone the official way. I must lookt at the LG root condition, I think this is still covered by waranty even with root because of HW issue not caused by root.
BR
I had a image retention issues on my screen (few months ago came from service for bootlooping) AND I have bootloader officially unlocked. And they still changed my display. But I live in Finland EU and we have this mandatory 2 years warranty regardless of rooting the device. Only if they can proof that rooting caused the device to broke then its not covered by this mandatory manufacturer independant warranty.
But image retention or bootlooping aint such a case and they replaced my MB and now my screen.
It just shows how **** the G4 is in case of build quality, I have experienced screenburn and I'm after a bootloop issue as well, so glad my OnePlus 3 is coming at Monday. G4 has a great development and thats why I love it I wouldn't buy ever again.
