I recently got a replacement Evo, my old one had a hardware problem and it would reboot by itself a lot and was driving me nuts. When I got my replacement Evo, things seemed to be working fine at first. The store associate put my old SD card in my new phone, because I had stuff on it and my pictures and music were still there and I was happy.
Then I got home and turned on Wimax (4G) and it would go into a "Scanning...." --> "Connecting to Sprint" --> "Scanning" loop and after a while it said "Disconnected". I was upset, my second (it looks brand new, but could be a refurb) Evo also is faulty? I didn't want to root it or anything, because if I had to take it back I'd have to revert that.
Called customer support and they sent an "over the air refresh". I had tried "update profile" multiple times before that. I did a battery pull, another factory reset, but no joy. I didn't have another line to call them with (they said "if this does not work, call us back from another line"), so I couldn't really do much.
Then as part of trying everything I could, I took out the SD card and turned it on. BAM! The 4g widget came on and I got a connection. Very fast as usual, 11-13 Mbps. I turned off the phone, put the SD Card back in and turned it on again, and 4G wouldn't connect. I went into Menu->Settings->Sd card and storage, unmounted the SD card and also touched the message in the notification area that said "now you can remove the card", then 4G connected again. Then, with 4G still on, I re-mounted the SD card (same menu setting), used it for a while and then turned off 4G. It started connecting fine from that point onwards.
So if you see issues turning Wimax/4g on, first try removing your SD Card. It's a simple and easy step and you can eliminate that variable before looking into things that take more time and effort for troubleshooting.
I'm not sure what it's doing with the SD card, but it sure does look like it may be writing some sort of settings onto the card and trying to read it before it connects properly.
Good information. Thank you for sharing it and I will definitely keep this in mind. Take care...
I have never heard of this. Strange to say the least, but very good to know. Thank you

Has anyone else come across the problem where the micro SD card seems to just stop being available to the phone? I'd say maybe once or so a day, anything that reads data from the SD card, such as the music app, stop working. If I try and play a song, it just hangs and does nothing.
I tried a search and somebody in the G1 forum had a similar problem but it didn't really contain any conclusions on what it is likely to be.
Anyone else had this issue? What is it most likely to be, the phone or card?
Thanks.
yeah I've had this occasionally with the camerea and seperately the 3d gallery software I installed.. have no idea why
Yea I've had that a couple of times actually. Just have to turn it off and on again and its ok, but its annoying.
Yeah, rebooting does sort it out, but it's starting to happen every day now, sometimes a couple times a day. If it's just a dodgy card or whatever I'd rather get T-Mobile to sort it sooner rather than later.
hmm a dodgy card.. included with the phone, that sucks
Backup your SD Card data and then try formatting it to see if that helps.
Cheers, will give that a go tomorrow. I might ring up T-Mob tomorrow anyway just to make them aware of the issue I'm having.
If I format it, will I be able to copy all the contents back on to it?

Yes, back it up to hard drive on your PC, then after you have formatted your SD card, copy back the contents from the hard drive to your Removable disk (SD card).
I've had this a few times Took the card out, reinserted and restarted the phone. Seemed to fix it, but it is annoying.
Sorry I can't remember when and how I know this.
But backup the card on your PC
Then format it in/with the phone and this should solve the problem I believe
I had killed one of my 16 GB card in Nexus one.
I found a problem that if i use Win 7 or Vista i must remove the device by using safely remove the USB device. Since now am doing this way i never had any problem.
Word of warning you could simply kill a card if you just remove a device.
My first thought was it has something to do with the USB connection. If you safely remove device in Windows - the phone 'prepares' the SD card.
I was having the same issue. I connected to the PC and mounted the SD card. I performed a disk check on the card and it found some errors which it then repaired. I then unmounted the card
I haven't had any issues since.
I formatted my card yesterday and haven't had any problems so far. thanks for the advice.
I ended up replacing the card. All of the previous advice didn't work for me or if it did it didn't last. I reckon there was a bit of a dodgy batch supplied by SanDisk.
~Since replacing I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever, it used to happen at least every 48hours. Very annoying when you try to take a photo and it tells you there's nowhere to save it.
I've been having problems too when taking pictures, which is really annoying!
And i'm not sure whether this is a related problem or not, but it could be...when trying to receive a file over bluetooth it sometimes says it doesn't have permission to receive the file or something along those lines, could this be the SD card playing up?
I'm on T Mobile, would they replace the SD card?
Not sure if it is the same reason, but I had all kinds of problems including the one you've described.
I'm on Orange, they told me that my SD card wasn't covered by Orange Care (the orange phone insurance). I said I didn't have Orange Care anyway and that surely it comes under the 12 months manufacturers warranty. They said pop it into the shop which is a bit of a drive and would cost me more than the value of a new card to get there.
At the time I wasn't certain it was the card as I didn't have a 2nd to try it with. Given my problem was very intermittent I decided the bother of going into the shop - it wasn't worth it for a £5 card. Now that I've bought a new one that works perfectly, I'm going to head into the shop with the old one next time I'm passing. The problem is I don't really need it replacing now! You could always lie and tell them you've tried your friends card at home for a couple of days and it worked perfectly?! No harm in trying.

Mhh - maybe I've had luck, but I use my over 1 year old 8gb cl6 card from magic/mt3g and never use that win function while unpluging anything (not while data transfer). So maybe depends on quality or manufacturer?

I hate to say it, but it will happen again. Have card reader or other phone prepared, just in case your sd card stops working totally
Hi all,
I recently updated through the OTA update to Froyo 2.2 on a stock EVO 4g (not rooted or messed with at all). When I finished the update, I sent a couple apps to my SD card (like Where was one, forgot the rest, maybe Flikie wallpapers). After that, the SD card was somehow permanently corrupted, I couldn't even format it on the phone or through a card reader on a PC. Anyway, then I started noticing extreme slowdowns on my phone's Sense interface (even today after putting in a new card). For example, when I try to type a text message, I put like a few letters from the person's name and it takes a good 30 seconds to show the results as opposed to instantly. Also, when a call comes in, the number shows up for a few seconds until it recognizes the contact, etc. Could it be because without a working SD card, things were put on the phone and now the phone is full (even though now I have a new card in there)? Or does anyone know why else this could be and maybe offer a solution? Thanks, greatly appreciate any guidance.
Hi all, just as an update, I got a new SD card in there, factory reset the phone, and all was well. However, now, again, after a few days, when I open the SMS app, and type a name, I get nothing for like 10-15 seconds, then it starts processing my request and pulling the name I was looking for. Any idea what could be causing this? This is the only remaining problem I have after the factory reset and reinstall of everything basically.
Ok guys, been a long battle. I spent a combined four and a half hours on the phone with sprint yesterday morning. We did soft resets, hard resets. We checked ESN and other numbers I didn't know existed. We checked towers as well.
And after all this, I still have issues making calls. When I go to make a call at home, it automatically disconnects even though I have full bars and my data is working. I also cannot receive calls, as everyone texts me saying that it is going straight to voice mail. I only really go three places.(work, home, gf's place) The problem occurs at both my place and work. However, it doesn't seem to happen when I am on the road, and it only happens sometimes at my gf's.
I took the phone to Sprint with a ticket number given to me by a second tier manager? The sprint store rebooted my phone a few times, tried to make a few calls. Of course it works. So their rule is, if they cannot replicate the problem, they cannot help.
So I guess I am asking what you guys would do. The only two option I see are:
1. Buy a used EVO and finish out my contract(14months) hoping nothing goes wrong with it.
2. Take the early penalty, close my account and go to Verizon like the rest of my friends whose GPS's and calling "just work".
I would hate to leave sprint cause they have the best unlimited deal out there. But this is the second "top of the line" phone I have bought with them that has been a disaster. And both of them seemed to work flawlessly for the first couple months I had them.
By the way, I am on stock EC05, and I have been ever since it EC05 came out. I am not rooted or anything. It was working fine till about Friday.
Do you have TEP?
Wow, try taking out the sd card and use the phone to make a call. SD cards can make the phone do some funky things. If that works; then put it back in, connect the phone to your computer, copy all the contents to your computer; format the sd card and copy the contents back to the sd card.
change to sprint only network (settings - wireless networks - mobile networks - system select .. choose sprint only)
uninstall app 3rd party applications; perhaps something running is the culprit
If still no joy; I would root it and try a custom ROM. Maybe a file got corrupted at some point and that is causing the disconnections.
I really like the one I am on, its worked beautifully.
I'd be happy to help you through the root process if it gets to that point.
Good luck
It doesn't matter whether I have it or not, they rebooted the phone, brought up the dialer, made one call(he might have made two, one of the other people was talking to me) and sent me on my way. If they can't replicate the problem, then their policy is to not do anything. I even asked them if I could make a video of it first hand when I get home, and they basically said that won't change anything cause they have to be able to replicate the problem first hand.

I will try SD card when I get home. I don't have any third party apps, as the technician on the phone hard reset my phone like 3 times. I tried every custom rom, and I even tried to go back to DI18. All of them had the same problem, so I am guessing it is hardware related. Again, data is working correctly, just seems to be something with the calling hardware.

If you have TEP - don't even bother with taking to the store any longer. Just complain enough over the phone and you should be able to get someone to send you a new one.

Unfortunately I cannot really wait for them to send me a phone. I need to get something today, as this phone is also my work phone. Customers do not like going straight to my voicemail :/
After a tech on the phone with Sprint screwed my phone up even worse, had me stuck in an activation loop. He told me to bring it to a Sprint store. Well this was at night so I Odin'd to stock DI18 and let it do the OTA and that cleared up the loop. It may work for you and save you grief.
Do you BONSAI?
DDTM is not on is it??

I've heard of similar things. I helped someone troubleshoot the problem and came up with it had to be the tower. They called again to customer service and of course they said that nothing is wrong with the tower. I think that they called again to make a report to check out the tower near their house. They did that a few times. I don't know how long it took to fix the situation. I do notice lately that, even though signal strength was okay before, it's better now.
If you have another sprint phone, if you activate it, does it do the same thing? This might be one of those instances that if you complain enough, maybe they might give you one of those devices they have (I forgot what it's called) that you hook up to your home internet and it acts like a mini tower at home. I've heard of stories that after enough complaining enough, they'll just give you one. If the phone still does it then it's the phone that's flaky.
When you talk to someone, make it clear you use this phone for work and if people can't reach you, you will lose clients. If you start losing clients because of this then you will be forced to go to another carrier. If they say you'll have to pay etf then tell them you won't because it isn't your fault that you can't make or receive calls at work and home.
This phone or their equipment or service isn't working properly and you're losing customers because of this.
Here's another idea. Find someone else that has sprint. Have them go by your work and home and see if they can send or receive calls. If they can then its your phone, if they can't then it's the towers.

Man, I'd be flippin out if it were me. That has got to SUCK!!
Hi All,
I own a LG G3 for past 1 yr and 4 months. Every thing was fine until last month when I accidentally dropped my phone and the display cracked. Of course, touch did not work. So last week I went to an authorized LG service center to change the whole display (which involves the process of taking out the motherboard and fixing it with another display. This means the whole frame is changed). He did this process in front of me only. After the change, everything works well except for a weird WIFI problem which I never faced before the screen was replaced.
The WIFI would frequently connect and disconnect. Even in the search list, all the SSIDs would be shown occasionally and sometimes won't show up at at all. Note again, this happens with all the potential WIFI connections around, Not only with mine. In short, the WIFI search results list won't be stable.
Even if my WIFI shows up in the list and I try to connect it will show - "saved"/"disconnected"/"Disabled" status. And yes, occasionally my WIFI gets connected and internet starts working. But not for too long. Prolly the connection lasts for 5-10 mins or so. All my other devices connect using the same AP and so i don't really have a doubt on my router AP.
I visited the authorized service center again. Without even having looked at the problem he says motherboard might be the problem, and asked me to change it. Even if i persist him to have a look at the problem, he won't . My last resort is XDA
The ways I tried.
1. Factory reset.
2. Flashed roms 21A and 20P (from scratch, erased all data and caches). Still No joy.
3. Tried forgetting the network and connecting again.
4. Toggle WiFi on and off
P.S : I also have another problem of SD card getting unmounted automatically and an error message pops up as "SD Card removed unexpectedly. Please unmount SDCard before removing to prevent", but immediately a toast message comes as SD card inserted. xx.xx GB space available. This keeps on happening in a loop until SD Card wouldn't show up in File manager at all. But, this problem was there for a long time even before the screen was replaced unlike the WiFi
problem which occurred only after the screen is replaced.
I really don't know what exactly is going on with my phone. Please let me know if any of you are familiar with these problems and have solved it. Would really save a huge money for me
This is my father's phone, he has already called verizon and they are going to send him a new phone, but he has to send this one back. I would like to get all of his photos off of this phone before we have to send it back, but it is in a boot loop and there is no TWRP installed to my knowledge, only the stock "hold volume down and power" restore options.
Is there anything i can install or something that will allow me to get anything off of the phone?
(btw it is not rooted either, my father is almost 50 now and he doesnt play with technology like i do)
I used this method and it worked perfectly

My G4 had a bootloop issue once.. turned out the problem was related to a corrupted sdcard. Once i had removed that then everything was OK and it booted up just fine. This might be worth trying if you haven't found a solution yet.

Mr. Crusty Genius: You solved my bootloop problem! By removing my SD card, the phone now works flawlessly where is was bootlopping with the SD card in.
My question, however, is what do I do now? I tried reformatting the SD card (after copying files to my desktop), and as soon as I put the allegedly formatted card back in the LG, back to bootlooping I went.
What would be my next step? Say "f" it and get a new card? Leave the card out? Or fruitlessly try to contact VZW and/or LG. This irritatingly enough happened THREE DAYS beyond one year since purchase.
90% of what is said here is Greek to me, so if you could use small words, it would be appreciated The phone isn't anything except off-contract. Using the way it came in the mail one year and THREE DAYS ago.
Cheers!

Hi
Yeah so in my case all I had to do was format the card and then stick it back in and problem solved. If you've already tried that then I'd try a new sdcard!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/diy-h815-usa-variant-hardware-boot-loop-t3311623
I was told by multiple people that the G4's defect of bootlooping issues is hardware related. Phone gets to hot and it causes a tiny solder point to break. Requires a new mainboard.
This is why I want an SD card....every possible piece of my data I store on the SD card and not the internal memory incase phone itself is not usable. It has saved me a fe5w times. Really want a Nexus phone, but no sd...so....yea...and they don't make a 200gb+ model.
The one thing that worked for me was putting my phone in the freezer for 15 minutes and then booting it up while still in the freezer. I also read to turn it on airplane mode after finally getting it to boot up so it would not slip back into the loop defect. After getting it to boot I immediately plugged it into the computer and switched the USB charging setting (in the notifications when connected to a computer or laptop) to Meida sync and then using the file explorer to go into the internal files of the phone and moved all of the pictures off of the phone onto my computer thus saving them. (your camera pictures will be under DCIM)
