Hi.
Is it possible to use a USB On The Go cable to connect external devices to the Defy?
Cheers

Probably not!
I dont think so. This is only a USB-port to host the DEFY as a device on your PC...
So that means Defy doesnt have USB OTG ? Where can we get that information?
I'd like to know this too. As far as I'm aware the defy's chipset supports OTG. unless they've crippled the firmware, it should be possible.

I haven't ordered my One X yet, but I was wondering if it's possible to plug in a USB keyboard (with an adapter obviously)?
Thanks!
Billy
Ive tried to do this with an adapter but it doesnt pick up anything, maybe im doing it wrong or else HTC doesnt have it in the ROM
Hardware is capable but it's not coded into the kernel. Expect this feature to appear fairly quickly once kernel source is available and people start work on custom roms.

As much as I want to believe that, I'm curious what makes you so sure it'll get added to the custom features list? I ask because somebody wrote drivers for the Nexus One two years ago and it's yet to be baked into any kernals (that I know of). Honestly, I've always been surprised that more people didn't see the value in the feature.
Thanks for the reply!
Billy
Have you tried it with a powered USB hub out of curiosity (i.e. connect One X as source device to a powered USB hub, plug device you want to use like keyboard/mouse/hard drive/etc. to hub)? The One X may not supply enough power from its USB port to power all devices.

Just tried.. Doesn't seems to work (with a USB keyboard). But the one X started to recharge
There is a custom rom already with USB host:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640532
According to the comments in that thread it still doesn't work. I've tried it myself with no success using powered USB hub.
USB-OTG is still in development phase from what I've read. Give it awhile and devs would get it fixed
bump
HTC released JB 4.1 kernel sources recently..
so will it be possible to connect USB keyboard?
Sure, and mouse too.
Odp: [Q] Does the One X have USB host mode?
Thanks!
Sorry for a little OT, but is it possible to make an USB keyboard with battery than will charge my tablet/smartphone?

Don't know. I guess you can if you know how to solder. See post below.
Won't work. Though you could charge over the pogo pins.
Hi Guys.
Loving the ability to hook the HTC one x via MHL > HDMI to the bigscreen.
Does anyone know any news on the ability to hook either a USB key or a USB HDD to the one x.
I understand that the one x hardware supports host mode, but no softare does at this point. From reading a few other posts around the web, there was some scepticism as to whether it ever would.
I personally would love to be able to take the one X and hook up extra storage for movies etc
Any change cyanogen or miui will support this ??
Doesn't work, tried it with mine (also others confirm it doesn't presently work). Even if HTC never enable it I'm sure custom ROMs will eventually.

I could Be Wrong But Does Leedroid's One X Rom Support it in his latest update?
Might be worth a look?
Thanks

I'll get my USB OTG cable tomorrow if I'm lucky. Will report back
Try something like USB Mass Storage Watcher (market: OTG version or non-OTG (I use this on my Toshiba Thrive, which has a full size USB port ).
It does have this warning:
USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG Market Page said:
---- ATTENTION ----
This will only work on rooted devices and requires a kernel that has the ums enabled. An OTG cable is required for using usb keys. It also requires a kernel with ums enabled and modules for ntfs/hfs/hfs+ etc.

Really? It doesn't works on the unrooted stock ROM? I saw Note 2 doing it in stock ROM even with a cheap cable...

you need a usb otg cable like this one

Confirmed that HOX with stock JB Rom directly connect with USB storage perfectly by any OTG USB cable.
and no one can't check it?

MHL to HDMI cable has USB for external power supply.
Hi I was wondering if a micro usb to usb adapter such as this one would work with our LG Nitro HD. I'm currently using CM9 nightlies as my rom.
Don't see why it wouldn't but what's the purpose?

Almost all of my medical textbooks are pdfs, so being able to copy from a friends pen drive a pdf to my phone so I can later copy it to my laptop at home is a major plus for me . I went ahead and purchased it anyways, so I'll report back if it works or not
So I finally got my usb-otg adapter. I plugged it in and tried a numerous amount off usb apps with no success. I wasn't able to use stickmount since the play store told me that it isn't compatible with my device. I haven't tried sideloading stickmount though. I'm running CM9 stable, not sure if it works with the stock roms or with JB.
I've never seen any indication that the Nitro HD supports USB-OTG. It's not listed in the spec sheets I've checked at least.

My hdmi adapter works fine in CM9, so I don't think you should have any problems if you switch to CM9.

From what I read since the captivate doesn't output power from USB port that standalone power isn't plausible

Looking to output signal out of the phone into my USB DAC. It works with my current phone, quite well.
If I'm to buy this Find 7 I need to know that it will work first. Anybody have any experience with this?
If I remember correctly find7 doesn't support USB OTG at all. Someone can correct me if I remember wrong

The Find 7 supports OTG, but if it's supports a DAC, I don't know, I've only used for usb storage, keyboard and mouse.

My mistake. It was MHL then that was missing
I'll let you know if it works with my DAC, soon, as my phone is slated for delivery today.
MHL, what is that? Hi-rez video out to an external device?

Yup. Standard that allows HDMI output from usb port. I use it a lot with my tablet.
