Hey guys. i've had it with Froyo. i have a list of complaints, but that kind of post has been done too many times.
basically i'm wondering how to "downgrade" back to a 2.1 rom. i started with OMJ's 2.1 "eclair" rom and now i'm running his 2.2 froyoized rom. i'd like to revert back to the latter. can someone clue me in on how best to accomplish this?
thanks!
I should expect it to be as simple as clearing data/cache/davlik and flashing the rom you want to use.
Don't think you can but I'm not 100% sure Idk what problems ur having but 2.2. Has been a beast for me
from the apple store loling

That's what I assumed. i just wanted to make sure before i screw something up.
@SporkMan, basically it seems slower, the battery life is awful and recently, i've noticed the phone itself is HOTTER. i carry it in a holster on my belt and this morning(while in court) i had it on airplane mode without GPS, wifi, etc on and it went from 85% battery to 42% batter in less then two hours and was hotter then it gets when i charge it off the wall adapter. i've NEVER gotten that bad of battery life. not even before i rooted it. thats just unacceptable.
plus, i haven't seen the talked-about speed gains in the applications, so it doesn't really provide me with anything new(correction, there is one thing i absolutely LOVE and that is the mass update in the Market. that just rules!)

you'll probably get a bunch of suggested roms to try, but my vote goes to BakedSnack and his Bkaed1 kernel. Hero tweaks the kernels to give killer battery - I've been raving about it ever since I switched over. I used to have to struggle to get over 13 hours battery - now I get over 20, without setcpu. You should nand and try it. If you don't like it, you can always nand back.

right! forgot he fixed that when he hit version 4 - I stopped using his kernel around 3.7ish when i went with Baked1. Sorry for the mis-info!
I would have to agree with the others. I use Fresh 3.1.0.1 and run Netarchy's 4.0.2 kernel, and my phone has never been faster, smoother, nor have I ever had better battery life as I do now. I took my phone off of the charger at 8:00 AM today, surfed the net, answered a few phone calls, did emails and messages for a total screen on time of about two hours so far. I also did 15 minutes of FM radio, and half hour of streaming Pandora on the way to work, and my battery is at 76% at 2:00 PM.
The other thing you might consider is that, it wouldn't surprise me if in a few months, aps compatible with the evo running 2.1 won't even show up for you in the market any more. I may be wrong, but something to consider.

Okay, i'm sticking with 2.2. i have to learn all about Baked Snack and figure out how to properly implement it.

Thanks! the part i'm MOST confused about is when i download the latest Baked Snack rom from that thread in development i only get a 318kb file. every other rom i've downloaded has been 125mb +. i don't really know what thats about
If you're talking about 1.2.5, the reason its so small is because its not a Rom. Check my link again. You have to wipe and flash 1.2 first, then 1.2.5 over that without wiping, unless you want the themed version (which I highly recommend) in which case you wipe, flash 1.2, then 1.2 themed without wiping, then 1.2.5 themed without wiping. It sounds like more of a pita than it is, and its worth it in the end.

Awesome! Let us know the results.
And just because I gotta say it (I think its a law), that info was mentioned many times in the BS thread.
Good luck!
Edit- looks like hero just posted a new 1.3, so ignore my steps above and just wipe (dont forget dalvic) and install the 1.3 full version.

is there any order that i should follow with a new Rom and kernel? i.e. kernel first then rom or vice versa?
Been running the Incredibly Re-Engineered ROM by chingy51o for about 2 days now. I wanted to post a question on the thread for it but apparently since I don't have 10 post on XDA, I have no business posting in the Dev Forums since I have no experience, which I believe I have plenty.
Well anyways here is my question. The battery life is terrible, is there a fix or one in the works? I was giving it time to settle in but after 2 days I still loose 30% in an hour.
The ROM was installed properly using recovery (I have plenty of experience), wiped and all. The ROM is SICK an I want to keep it.
Any fixes or suggestions would be awesome.
Try a different kernel.

His work includes a custom kernel, Lou's #8, so he's already replaced the stock kernel with a different one. Flashing a different kernel is okay to do, especially if you are getting bad battery life. I've run Lou's kernels, they work great with some ROM's, not so much with others. It is responsible for servicing requests from applications and managing resources basically, like the CPU and battery.
Trying a new kernel is not going to ruin the ROM as a whole, like the icons and stuff, so that's why I recommend trying a new kernel. Chingy may switch it at some point if things work better overall, and since you can download Lou's kernels, you can just flash his #8 back to get the ROM back to "default" so to speak.
I use Chad's and Ziggy's because I've gotten the best battery life with those on EVO based ROM's. Give it a shot, if it doesn't make a noticeable difference, flash another, and if nothing makes a difference, maybe try another ROM just to see what kind of battery life that would yield.

His ROM included Lou's #8. I tried A Ziggy and no luck, still had terrible battery. I then tried Lou's #9 and i would swear my battery has preformed 3 times better. I didn't think there was that big a difference between the two.

Yes, I wiped every thing before I installed. I always do.
i have been reading silently through many of the discussions, and im not even gonna say im an expet or anything like that. i have done a few things and am getting used to doing this kinda stuff.... exactly how do u flash a new kernal? ( just a question) so go easy.
That's weird. On a stock build (using the kernel that came with it), I'm getting around 30 hrs on a 1500mah battery. (This is with light to medium usage)
Do you have setcpu installed?
Check your battery report, and check to see if 'Display' has been turning off correctly. I've seen a few roms where something got wonky with either Facebook sync, or exchange preventing the screen from turning off for any length of time. ('Time On' should be much lower than 'Time since unplugged')
About eight months ago I traded in my Verizon BlackBerry for a Droid Incredible 2, but I still have a LOT to learn, so please bare with me
When I got my Inc2 I immediately got it rooted & flashed with a LOT of help as it took numerous steps and two days to complete. So from day one I've been using Skyraider Zeus, and have really enjoyed it. But recently the battery icon has started turning red with an exclamation point. After having been told by a number of people that this sounded like a battery issue, so I purchased a new battery. Unfortunately that didn't solve the issue. It was then suggested that I flash a new ROM to see if that would fix it. I assumed it would, to an extent, since most ROM's use different battery icon images.
So I traded (begrudgingly) my beloved Skyraider Zeus this weekend for ViperINC 1.3.1. Unfortunately I only used this ROM about 24-hours because I could no longer use wireless tether, which for me was a deal-breaker
I then traded ViperINC for Magnolia 2.1.1, which I very much liked because it was so similar to Skyraider Zeus, and I was once again able to use my wireless tether. Unfortunately I started experiencing the red battery icon issue again, as well as it would not allow me to connect my Google account, thus preventing me from using a lot of features.
So last night I went back to the nandroid backup from over the weekend and am now back to my beloved Skyraider Zeus *SMH*
All this having been said, I have two questions....
First... does anyone have an idea of what could be causing the issue with the battery icon turning red?
Second... can anyone recommend a ROM similar to Skyraider Zeus that can handle my excessive use (email, web, SMS & voice), that supports wireless tether and (if possible) allows me to take screenshots (preferably from the power button like Skyraider)? Oh, and the fewer steps to flash, the better LOL!
Thanks in advance to those who reply!!

It means the phone can't read the battery information (charge level, temperature, etc)... I would first try pulling out the battery and checking the contacts on the battery and the phone. If they are bent or messed up, return the phone to stock and take it back to Verizon for a replacement.

I had a number of people suggest it was a battery issue, but cleaning the contacts didn't solve it, so I just got a new battery. But even with the new battery it still happens. I've had days where it barely happens at all, and then I have days where it will stay red almost all day. So I'm thinking it isn't a battery issue at all, but instead is something with the device itself. Which is why I tried a new ROM over the weekend, but again the issue persisted.
Also, I purchased the device outright from someone, so taking it into Verizon isn't an option. That is why I am hoping someone will know how I can fix it since it doesn't appear to be the battery or the ROM causing it
Thanks again!
Your problem definitely sounds like a hardware issue. It could be as simple as a lose connection on the back side of the battery contacts inside your phone. If it isn't negatively affecting the phone's actual battery life and you don't want to crack open the case, you may just have to accept it's imperfection.
As for Rom suggestions... In all honesty, if SkyRader works for you, stick with it. It really is one of the most complete, thorough, and fully functionl GB-basd Sense Roms available for the phone. You could give UKB Evolution a try. But being ICS-based will lend to some "quirks" that may or may not dissuade you from using it.
My wife's phone has the same issue and it is stock unrooted. If memory serves me correctly doesn't skyraider have the option to hide the battery from the status bar? If so just hide it so you don't see it and maybe get a battery widget. The widget may not work either. My wife's phone works fine so it doesn't appear to affect it. And I agree with the above statement that skyraider is hard to beat. As far as gingerbread sense it is my go to rom. I always keep it on my phone in case my phone acts up and I need something dependable.

It's hard to say if it's having a negative affect or not. My battery has drained like crazy since day one, but I don't know if it's a normal amount of battery drain or not, nor do I know what causes it. I am a heavy user at times, but there are still those days where it seems to drain much quicker than it should in my opinion. All I do know is when compared to my old BlackBerry, this device is as bad and even sometimes worse when it comes to battery drain.
As far as ROM's go, I think I will just stick with Skyraider unless something really catches my eye, especially since the whole process really isn't all that fun for me LOL!

I don't honestly know if it can be hid or not to tell you the truth. But it isn't that it bothers me, it just concerns me is all. Especially when I started looking into possible causes and had even the most Android knowledgeable people I know stumped. But it doesn't appear that there is any cut and dry explanation for it, so I guess all I can do is wait hope whatever it is doesn't get worse.
In the meantime I will be sticking with Skyraider. It was nice having a different appearance for the weekend, but it sure wasn't worth all the function that was lost.
Thanks again!!
Its probably hardware but you might try clearing battery stats in recovery. That will probably not do anything but it won't hurt. For full functionality if you want something different try cm7 or the gb miui.

We have 2 DI2 - one has been running SR Zeus continuously (95% of the time) for 15+ months with no issues, with light usage & minimal mobile data/3G - get 3 days+ of standby as it's mostly on voice calls. Mine has been flashed with variety of Roms sourced from XDA, been running lately on HTCI2-MROM based on CM7, battery life is a notch better or equal to SK Zeus - otherwise, it runs on the following Stock Sense Rom, which has nice tweaks - very similiar and as good as Zeus, if not better. It has given me good battery / standby time - average of 2 to 3 days, 25 to 30 hours if I'm really pushing it (tethering, GPS, video streaming, etc.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219471
What Recovery are you using - as others suggested, it could be hardware issues (loose connection/dropped or even (*gasp*) water-damaged pre-owned device that you are now holding, especially with a brand new/fresh battery & HTC's OEM batteries are very good, my old HTC Ozone running Windows 6 is still holding a great charge with its original battery after 4 years.
I would suggest letting the battery drain and fully charge it, go into Recovery & wipe battery stats and use it normally - let it run and stablize for 2 or 3 cycles with the new battery, and see how it go. Keep the "old" battery charged as a spare and carry it with you for the next few days so that you won't be holding a paperweight.
Assumed you are on the CDMA/Verizon side and not using GSM bands - are you using mostly WiFi or 3G, or a mix of both signals - as all of these do affect (depending on signal strength) your battery life, and that your PRL (*228 option 2) are updated on a regular basis. Running background Apps such as FB, Twitter, etc. also do affect how much usable time you get on a charge, as you know.
Have you tried fixing permissions? Could be the issue.

Hey guys, im new to the forum and im almost certain im gonna post this in the wrong spot but still, i really need help so i figured with such a nice community ill get help with whatever wherever.
Okay, so as most here, im on a custom ROM and KERNEL. Theres 2 reasons i did this. 1) battery life for me was horrible on TW! So i flashed CM10(Stable build) and multiple kernels such as, Trinity, LK and KT747. I found i had found better battery life on LK than stock but the best out of them all was KT747. But i discovered a little problem using KT747. If i was scrolling through my tumblr or twitter, as im scrolling down the screen jumps back down by itself. The same would happen while switching home screens, i would go left twice then it would jump back right once. As you can tell that got REALLY annoying REALLY fast, so i had to switch back to LK. I want to use KT747 again so i can get that amazing battery life, so can someone tell me if it was just maybe a minor problem in the build? Should i download the newest build and try again? Im almost certain that its not because of a bad flash seeing as i flashed it 4 times to see if it resolved the problem.
Any advice would be most helpful.
Thank you!:fingers-crossed:
Oh yea, my phone was on a hard brick and i had to get it repaired so im being super careful with what i flash as of now, so can someone tell again, when i want to switch kernels, do i wipe cache and dalvik or wipe or do anything for that matter? Thank you!

Thank you!

Most people would agree to wipe cache/dalvik and flash away. And most people on twiz stock have great battery life. As for that issue you posted maybe ask in his thread if anyone has experienced this issue. Its a solid kernel but their are a few people with devices that just don't like certain kernels unfortunately
I personally would redownload the kernel of choice and just flash it. KT is known for battery life
Edit also check within your etc/initd file within root explorer and make sure lk doesn't leave a script behind and if it does just delete it before flashing KT.

Hey, thanks for the info. I know KT is known for battery life thats why i really want, actually, need find out why its behaving this way. As of now, i did what you told me and re-flashed KT and the problem still persists. I guess ill go through the KT thread and see if anyone else has had this problem, if not, ill try to contact the dev myself and see if he can help me. Right now, I'm running LK 1.9exp for tmo. Battery on this so far seems to be better than the old LK i had, so if i can't fix the KT problem i guess ill stick with this build of LK.
Thank you!:good:
Hey guys, i gave KT one last flash and this time its working beautifully!:victory: I have no idea what i did or maybe the kernel was pmsing previously, but its working perfectly and i havent come across any problems so far, so fingers crossed !:fingers-crossed: just incase KT decides to act up again, im keeping LK 1.9exp tmo, on my phone for a quick flash, because i was getting pretty reasonable battery stats and screen on time with that. Im just so happy KT is working once more, hopefully nothing goes wrong this time and i can go back to the close to 21+ hours of battery with 3+ hours of screen time!
Thanks once more guys!:good::laugh:
I have been using my Nexus 7 2013 for few months and the battery is really strange.
The battery graph is often zigzag-like as attached and I really don't know where the issue is.
I have been using purity rom, franco kernel with smart cover.
I am also charging my Nexus 7 2013 with my Nexus 4 charger and external powerbank.
Is this a battery problem and should I get it back to ASUS for warranty?
Thanks everyone
If it hasent been doing this long i would give it a week or two and if its still doing it, then i would be concerned. But i also think that some custom kernels may also have this side effect, i dont know why, maybe someone more with more knowledge of kernels could clear this up. Atleast. I hope... Mine does this aswell, but i dont stay on the same rom for more than a week or two ?

I am not sure why this happen and my first thought is battery issue.
I am lazy to try out different roms and kernels unless this issue persists.
Id go through a few full cycles, it does this to me on glitch kernel, but i tryed stock rooted rom the other day and noticed it wasnt happening anymore.
Edit: just looked at the graph again. Looks like you werent even using the tablet at all. If thats the case then im afraid this might be bad. Sorry friend.
But i wouldnt get too worried just yet, give it a few days, if it doesnt settle down or stock does the same then id think about a warranty.

Thanks very much and I may observe it for another week.
I have the exact same issue with my Nexus7. Rooted stockrom and it is zigzaging also. But batterylife is still very good, now its been up 2days and 12 hours with screen time over 5 hours. So im not going to send my own into warranty just yet, because every other common known problem is not on my device
I have stock rom , not rooted and I get the zig zag battery also. No problem tho, I am very happy with the battery life .
