"New" Radio - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've been running the 7.28 radio since it was released, and am starting to get caught up on new developments, as I've been away for awhile. My question is has anyone noticed any improvements moving from the 7.28 radio to one of the newer radio versions? Any compatibility improvements, or incompatibility issues? Performance improvements? Thanks!

11.19 is great for me. battery life and network speed have improved. I went back to 7.28 to see if there was a difference, I went back to 11.19.

I went from 11.19 to 7.28 for a few days and noticed a weaker signal, and slower network, so I went back to 11.19. Also for me GPS locks way faster with 11.19. But it is always dependent on location, and all phones are a little different. You really just have to play around and see which is best for you. I ran the 9.01 for a while. It was OK.

What RADIO do you use on ATT in US?

Hi,
I'm on latest ATT radio 1.54.07.00 and not happy with battery life, i did not try other RADIOs since I know how dangerous to flash it. I'm looking for opinions which other RADIO ROMs are best of ATT and for battery life.
If I can save on battery life and have the same good reception then I'm willing to take a risk of flashing. I don't care about 3G etc, only voice.
I've tried all of them, and I keep going back to 1.48. Works the best for me.

Yeah, that's what I heard. Where do I get it from? Is the 1.48 on this page is good (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms)?
I agree, 1.48 has given my the best results on the east coast.
1.48.10
I am in Michigan and get the best reception/batt life with 1.48.10
I am also however in a non 3G area as of yet, so I dont know how the reception is in a 3G area.

Your quote says you on 1.35. Anyway, where did you get 1.48.10?
Actually, you are not on the latest radio... 1.54.30.10 is the latest and I find that it works really well... I just have a lot of stuff going on, such as constant pulling of POP and Exchange email and Emoze, which monitors a different exchange account... Will all of that, I still get an easy 8 hours or so, before having to recharge.... I have gotten the best reception with this radio as well... And I am in NJ....

Can you install acbPowerMeter and see what is your average power consumption is with only voice and bluetooth enabled and phone in idle mode (screen is off etc)
I was getting around 50-60 mA on old radio and about 20-30 with newly "upgraded" 1.48 one.
1.48's good here in Hellaware. Good GSM signal, and full 3Gizzle signal in most places. I had 1.54 but couldn't stand the battery drain...
I'm using 1.54.30.10 as well. It seems like the same battery life, however I haven't tested with the above suggested software. I can say that I can pick up 3g in places the other radios couldn't. At least it is a lot quicker to detect and use 3g than 1.54 or 1.50. I don't recall if I used 1.48 or not. I'm also in NJ. Good luck.
1.48 works great for me down here in FL, and when I was visiting up in NJ.

The biggest question for me and others probably how battery life compared to newer version of Radio. I definetely saw improment (see my previous post) when downgraded to 1.48, was wondering if somebody with newer radio can run the same utility and see their power consumption.
In NJ, AT&T
I am running 1.50.00. Previously used 1.40.30 and 1.48. 1.48 seemed to be the best of the lot but 1.50 is nearly as good so I stick with it. I found that 1.48 had the best balance of signal strength and battery life. I think 1.50 has a slightly better signal strength, but somewhat lower battery life than 1.48.

Where can I find acbPowerMeter? I will load and compare for you.
I've been running 1.54.00.10 since the day it came out. It has been the best compromise of battery life and recepction for me. I live in NJ too.

[Q] Why PRI 1.77? NV 1.77? Why over 1.90?

Why are people using pri 1.77/nv 1.77 over pri1.90/nv1.90? battery drain, 3g speeds, gps locks?
thank you very much
Some people report a significant battery drain with 1.90 and find 1.70 more reliable, even when running stock.
Sent from my Evo using mikfroyo 4.5
cool. im running stock with some cosmetic mods. trying pri 1.77, nv 1.77 now. i usually prefer to have the latest though.
is 1.90 causing widespread problems or is it fairly isolated?
I know there were problems using the new PRI and NV with a ROM that wasn't based on the new release as well. Now that most if not all of the custom ROMs are based on that version, I'm not sure if there are any widespread problems with the current NV and PRI. I'm using the latest and haven't seen problems with Myn RLS5 or mikfroyo 4.5 (just started with that one though).
cool. the vibe im getting is that 1.90pri/nv works well with stock 3.70. ill run 1.77 tomorrow and see how my battery life does. i wish there were a place we could see changes made to the pri/nv files and compare them with each other...my battery life seemed fine with 1.90 but if it can be better with 1.77, ill take it. also like fast gps locks.
still craving input! thanks!!
I am actually running CM7+4G and had 1.77 and noticed that my 3G speeds were terrible. I was maybe getting .3 down and .4 up max every run. I flashed 1.90 and now my speeds are 1.10 down and .80 up. Much improved. I personally didn't notice a difference in battery life. Course I've had my phone off the charger a few times with over three days so unless I leave it unplugged forever I don't notice big differences. Using a 1750 MaH battery from BB.

for starters, it only is supposed to work in sense roms, as that post states it gets reset when you flash a new rom.
second, I have tried that "fix" and everytime it makes my 3G speeds even worse. Tried that fix on Myns warmtwopointtwo and fresh. kills my 3g speeds instantly.
I haven't had any issues running the 1.77 folks say faster 3g speed and better battery life so far everything been running great for me no bad slow data speeds.
I had battery drain and sleep issues with 1.90. I went back to 1.77.
Sent from my iPhone with the bigger Gee Bees.
I also went back to 1.77 from 1.90 and battery life went from about 12 hours to 18-20. A bunch of people at work did the same and are getting significantly better battery.

So how do you down grade the PRI and NV?Do you just flash it from recovery like a rom?

yeah just download it out of the thread in the Dev section, and flash it like a rom, it will ask you to reboot your phone, it will then apply the "update" and the kick you back to the recovery and your done.
I've been meaning to do this too but simply don't have much time. I need a kernal to resort to that doesn't give me screen tearing.
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
Do you update them both at the same time?
One after the other, I could be wrong.

Since my 003 Evo appears to work fine, but I get the most pathetic battery life regardless of the ROM, etc, this is of great interest to me. Can anyone tell me if the poor battery life that they experienced using the 1.90 was only related to a sleep issue...as in the phone didn't sleep properly with the 1.90?
I ask because my phone appears to sleep fine. If I leave it dark overnight for 8-hours, the awake time is under an hour.
Also if one wants to experiement with this, should the PRI and NV always be flashed together? The versions appear to match exactly so it would seem to make sensethat they go together.
Thank you for your time and assistance.

+1
exactly my thoughts..
is pri & nv the same? I was going to try and flash the 1.77 but I wanted to make sure that the prii 1.77 radio is all that I need to flash.
Thanks
No they aren't the same; you should flash both of them though.

Radio Version - Battery Life

All,
One thing I noticed in reading these posts and seeing people's device information in their signature is that there are a few versions of the radio that people are running. Some have stayed on an older version, while others have upgraded to newer versions.
I am wondering if a particular version gives us the best overall coverage and battery life. I would appreciate it if you could respond with the version you are running. I would like to compile the responses and see which versions people are running. I am then going to test each version for a couple of days and see the implications of each version on battery life.
Thanks,
Steve
radio can influence battery. it all comes back to your dbms reading, the lower the better. try a few of the radios and see what happens.
9.01 now. Ran 7.28,4.08 and 5.06 before though. 4.08 wasn't bad.

This discussion is all over the place but a dedicated thread with battery results is good. we need to post our location as well as screen shots. im on long island and 04.08 does well with data speeds. im in a building heavily protected meaning they do well blocking reception and i am able to pull 3g in 99% of the time with an occasional drop to 1x.
I just flashed 09.01 from 04.08 and went from -84 dbm to -80 dbm sitting in the same spot.

From my experience the radio has a lot to do with battery life. The radio effects how your phone communicates with the local towers. The difference between radios are tweaks within the voltages. Your best best is to try them all and see which one gives you the best happy medium between reception, call quality, data speeds and battery life. I personally get slightly fast data speeds with the newer 4.08 and 5.06, however I did notice that my battery was draining faster while using data, so I went back to 9.01 which seemed like the happy medium for me. Just because 9.01 works well for me, doesn't mean that others will have similar results. Just like how the same type of phone can act differently with kernel voltage changes, the same goes for radios.
Remember when testing different radios to rule out any variables that may change your results. An example of this is when I was testing out the newest radio, I updated Dolphin HD also. After doing so, I ran into an issue with web pages stop loading half way. I originally blamed the radio for this, but then remembered that I had also update the browser. It turned out that the newest update had some bugs and this was one of them.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy Nexus FD01 vs FD02 radio

What I suspect is that the FD02 update increased the power output of the radio, to fix the complaints that people were having regarding weak signals with the FC12 radio that Sprint shipped it with. Increased power=increased heat and decreased battery life--problems that we already have enough of. FD01 was a leaked predecessor to FD02, with better reception, but it was not made official, for some reason. I installed FD01, the day I got my phone, because it was markedly better than the stock radio.
Since "upgrading", I have noticed a decrease in battery life and an increase in the phone overheating, especially when in areas where the signal is weak--even idle, or under light use. this has been an issue on multiple ROMs, including stock, BlackIce, and CM9, and with multiple Kernels, including stock, Trinity, Franco, and others, so appears to be independent of ROM and Kernel.
The symptoms include:
* Heating up
* Causing the phone to throttle the CPU back, so that performance is sluggish,
* The battery will not charge, while it is heated up.
* Switching to WiFi allows the phone to cool down, and charging is then possible, since this is taking the load off of the CDMA radio, of course.
I have have been running the FD02 radio for about a week, now, and will be reverting back to FD01, today report my findings, here.
Has anyone else experienced this or are you willing to try reverting to a different radio, to compare notes?
After almost a day, the FD01 radio is performing the same, and the phone is still acting the same as on the FD02 radio. It seems I have myself a hardware problem to address.
I reverted back to FD01 from FD02 myself. I didn't have any noticeable issues of speed or temperature. I just experienced a drastic difference in speed and signal strength. FD01 isn't perfect, but I get a signal almost everywhere and the speed isn't set on molasses lol. I'm in the DC area, so we have plenty of towers, just slow network. So far, it's the best of the 3 for me.

Is there any reason/benefit to updating my radio from 2.15.00.07.28?

Is there any reason/benefit to updating my radio from 2.15.00.07.28?
I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary with it wrt 3G or WiFi. I do get some "echo effect" in voice calls sometimes to my wife's phone, but I think I've always had that.
I'm on a CM9 nightly build and all seems to be going well, but I noticed my radio is pretty out of date. I figured if there was a compelling reason to do it, now would be a good time to update the radio.
Thanks.
You could update the radio to see if you notice greater signal reception, call quality, and data speeds. This is dependent on your relative environment as one radio may be good for you but the next may not be.
Im still on the radio that came with gingerbread. I've held off on changing it because people say it depends on location which one works better, and the current one works for me. I feel like if I update it, any change would be a placebo. Now, if anyone knows of a stats app that could measure reception, 3g, wifi etc then I might experiment
