How can I tell when a unit is manufactured? - Defy General

Looking to buy a Defy, but want to avoid the units manufactured 2010 bacause of the "earpiece-problem".
Is there any way to tell, by the device id/serial number, when a unit is manufactured?

If the Battery has the serial number BF5X it's good!

following this http://www.android-hilfe.de/motorol...er-hoererlautsprecher-defekt-hilfe-tipps.html depending on this https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/312564#312564,
Defys with BFxx, BTxx or a blue dot next to the number should be good.
And it's not the battery saying BF5X, because this is printed on mine, and I have a ****ed up earpiece

[Q] Will my Defy Earpiece ok?

So, i just bought my Defy today (very excited, works ok out of the box) and i looked for the model number but i could not sort it out. ( i bought it from Europe)
Mine is BT33, MSN L596QA2875 . Will it be ok?
Up to press models showing BT or a blue dot under the battery have been unaffected by earpiece failures so yours should be OK.
Unfortunnately nobody knows( But by the reason - that you have a this year made Defy - you have much more chance, that all will be OK, cause most hardware problem had devices made in 2010.

The official Motorola response is phones with the BT or BF code or the blue dot will not be affected and handsets made from March which no longer use the codes or dot will not be affected so to say no one knows is wrong.
That isn't to say the ear piece definitely wont break, it might fail for a different reason.
Here is a better question:
Has anyone with BT or Blue Dot had an earpiece show the same fault as the previous designed one?
I considered buying a backup earpiece just in case but I put that purchase off.

unfortunately yes...here in italy some people with bt/bf defy had the same problem of previous version. Me and others defy users have a theory about this problem: because of the ip67 protection against water, the cell is ermetically closed so if you press on the backcover near the M logo during a call you can hear a distortion (try it yourself). After few time the stress caused by the pressure on the earpiece can cause its break. That's all.
ps: sorry for bad english

S3 screen Flickering and Battery dies randomly!

So, Hey guys I'm new here. Well the topic tells what's the problem my S3 is having. I need to take the battery out and recharge it again in order to use it. I've had it for a little over 1 year. If this is something to do with replacing my battery or hardware issue, please inform me here. I'm about to move to a new country and it'll be difficult to get it fixed there. Waiting for a reply ASAP! Thanks
I got this with faulty batteries, i replaced it for a genuine one and it stopped doing it!
Brother had the same problem and all he had to was replace the battery with one from a recommended provider.
I tried replacing the battery but I'm still having the same prow, help?

Usually the battery is the issue. If not, it may be with faulty hardware or the kernel you are using is not stable.
I had this issue with a BD-series battery (OEMed by BYD for Samsung). About a month from the first occurrence of this, the battery got swollen up. Several fake batteries that people tried to sell me also produced the same issue. Swapped out with a genuine AA-series (Samsung SDI) battery, problem gone.
By any chance, do other people with this issue also have a battery with a S/N beginning with BD?
BTW, recently I've been seeing some AA-series, "Made in China" or "Cell made in China, assembled in Korea" batteries, in genuine-looking retail packages. These mostly show up in Samsung stores & service centers where I live, indicating that they are genuine - however, all previous AA-series batteries I've seen were either "Made in Korea", "Cell made in Korea, assembled in...", "Made by Samsung SDI", or "Cell made by Samsung SDI, assembled in...", with the actual cell (below the "sticky" coating) engraved with "Made in Korea" and a valid Samsung SDI model number. And after a Samsung authorized reseller gave me an AA-series, "Cell made in China, assembled in China" (a nonexistent designation - a genuine one would just say "Made in China") battery with missing NFC coil ,which they claim to have sourced directly from Samsung Hungary; I call the reliability of Hungarian Samsung outlets into question. So, be on the lookout for these batteries, they are probably relabeled BYD units, if not outright fakes, and could have the same issue.
Surprised u have not heard of this phenom suffered by this particular phone. Its called SDS (sudden death syndrome). Problem happens after this phone passes the 1 year mark.
Found out that Samsung used to replace the phone (even if it had been rooted). They said it was fixed in one of their updates (think it was 4.2) but I don't think it fixed the issue.
Wrote an email to Samsung about how thousands of people have this issue. Sent them tons of links.
Long story short....even though my warranty has been long over, they just replaced my board, screen, battery, and gave me new USB cable and charger. Only thing they didn't change was the body. I got a new phone. Strange!
I think they are trying to keep it hush so if you are strong, not rude, and advise that may have to post YouTube vids and posts about your dissatisfaction, they will bend....
Good luck!
Had the same problem on my dad's S2. Replaced the battery and its fixed.
Very good question
Very good question, a great help to me.
this happened to me when my battery swelled, I replaced it and it get fixed. Check your battery.

What's the deal with my 'new' Note 3?

Hi guys,
Looking for advice. Went into a store directly that was advertising a new Galaxy Note 3 SM-900W8. The IMEI numbers match on the sticker and on the phone. But the serial numbers do not. However, I've run two apps: Genuine Galaxy and Phone Info. They both say it's a real Note but I've noticed the screen has the faint markings of Chinese apps. It's most obvious when the screen is white. Also, on Phone Info it shows that it's been charged almost 4,500 times. My question is bar the Chinese apps being annoying when I'm in a lowlight environment on a light screen, the phone seems to be genuine but refurbished. Should I risk keeping the phone or would I be better off returning it as it was not sold as advertised.

Buying original Note 7 (first batch)

Hi xda peeps,
I just like to ask if it’s worth it buying a Note 7 that was part of the batch with battey issues? They’re selling it for roughly $175. The issue seller has indicated is that the serial number randomly shows on both sides of the screen (see attachment).
And if ever I purchase this unit, what step can I take (rooting or downgrading) to remove the limits Samsung implemented on their updates? (I’m assuming the unit was updated so the serial number started popping up, and maybe has a white battery)
I just blurred out the serial numbers for privacy.
Thanks
Pretty sure that's a prototype though, if numbers appear on the screen
For that price, is it worth it? And would there be any workarounds to get rid of the occassional serial numbers popping up? I appreciate your reply.

How to read the Battery Discharge Cycles on a Samsung S20+

Hi!
I am trying to read the Battery Discharge Cycles (or whatever parameter would give me a similar information) on a Samsung S20+. Tried different apps but none works. The closest so far - Phone Info Samsung - actually can read this on my old Samsuns S8, but there is no such info on the S20+.
Any idea how I can get this info w/o rooting the phone?
Background info: I purchased a "new" Samsung S20+ via ebay with the Black Friday/Cyber Monday ebay rebate.
The phone was listed as new, just with a "damaged" packaging.
This is correct, the package is damaged. But the package was not longer sealed, there were no plastic protection on the phone. The back code bar label seems also applied later (it is unevenly cut and there is only the IMEI, no other info - model number, ...). All accessories are from some older model Samsung phones (USB A to USB C cable, an older USB A charger, 3.5 mm jack headphones, ...
The phone is also build for a different country than Germany, but this is less relevant for me.
What is more important is that the phone has been manufactured in February. It has no scratches and if I can be sure that it has been charged around 30 times, than that is fine. But if someone had it for ~ 9 months, used it w/o care than I would rather buy a really new phone and forget the 8% black Friday rebate.
Sorry. I don't have the answer but I would like to know what kind of software is able to give such infos.
About your ebay S20+ : was the price that a great deal to "risk" buying such a "new" phone ?
@gilzve : best so far is Phone Info Samsung - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
or using adb tools, coneecting to the phone and going to sys/class/power_supply/battery and reading the values of fg_cycle (number of charge cycles) fg_fullcapnom (capacity nominal).
The last part only works on my Samsung S8, on the S20 + I can not change to the battery folder - access denied.
price: as stated, it was not much, it is just 8% off, around 590 EUR. And on e-bay it said: "new, just the packaging is damaged". Fake news or lies, however you want to call that.
side note: although I understand why the battery folder is protected I am quite unhappy that there is no easy way to read the charge cycles of an Android phone today. On Apple devices this is a default feature for ages and to be honest it is very handy: if you want to see what the state of your device is or when purchasing a second hand device (have no idea if the charge cycle count can be manipulate or not..).
I want to change my battery. Is there a way to reset the counter so that the battery is treated like a new one and not a used one with reduced capacity / charge?
