Carriers - About xda-developers.com

Does anybody else think there should be a section on here for the cell phone carriers such as Verizon, Sprint, etc.

[q] evo rom for at&t

OK i hope this hasn't been talked about already, I couldn't find it. If i understand correctly...the EVO is a world model phone and is capable of both CDMA as well as GSM. I could be wrong...I have an ATT plan and Im sick of Sprint service however i love my evo. has anyone successfully made a GSM rom for these phones? if so where do i find it or would someone be willing to give it a shot? I might need to "repair' my ESN too. any input other than "I'm a dumb a$$ for thinking of it" would be appreciated thanks.
Impossible to get the Sprint HTC Evo onto the AT&T network. AT&T uses SIM cards, which the Evo does not have.
The evo is not a world phone, it's purely CDMA & WiMax. AT&T uses GSM for voice, which is the world standard. AT&T currently uses some variant of HSPA for data, I believe.
What that boils down to is that no, you can't put an evo on AT&T. The only other major compatible network is Verizon, which also uses CDMA. However, Sprint is the only carrier that uses WiMax for 4G, so you'd be out of luck there.
There's also the thorny issue of CDMA carriers not allowing equipment from competitors activate on their accounts. Some smaller carriers will take devices from other carriers, but I don't really know much about them.

Sprint GS3 hardware question....

Is the internal radio and SOC identical across all US carriers? (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint)
I am looking to unlock a Sprint GS3 that I can get as an employee and use it on AT&T. (Apple appears to include both CDMA and GSM support in their 4S units) and I am hoping Samsung did the same to get the device out to all the carriers.
Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately, sprint opted to make the sim internal so it can't be swapped. If you see some of the video reviews out right now, it shows the sim slot missing.
Protocols and frequencies

I am not a professional on this but I believe that the SoC(processor, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc) is identical but the radios are different.
All the carriers use unique frequencies to communicate with their towers. Many carriers use separate protocols to communicate as well(HSPA+, CDMA, GSM) Its possible for 2 carriers to use the same protocol but they will always be using different frequencies.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think its possible to re-program your phone to use a different frequency(i.e. change from 1900MHz to 800MHz)
I do not believe you can "unlock" a sprint phone. The radio simply will not work on any other carrier. Now, if said sprint phone were a "Global Phone", then it has an additional GSM radio in it as well. I don't know if this could be used to connect to another US carrier like AT&T though.

Help choosing carrier

I have an unlocked and rooted Evo 4G Sprint phone and am wanting to flash it to a different carrier. I want to use either ST, Net10, or Tracphone, but am unsure which would give me the best reception. I live in a very rural area so this decision is critical. I know for sure that I get no signal with ATT, Tmobile, or any other GSM carrier that I've been able to test. I do get signal with US Cellular, Net10, and Tracphone, have not been able to test with ST. I'm unsure what towers these CDMA carriers operate off of. If any use USC, it would be best, but I've never found where any of them use USC.
I can't find guides to flash my EVO to Net10 or Tracphone, but guides for ST are all over the place.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. If no one can answer my question, I'll probably just flash it to ST and if it doesn't work I'll sell it and try something different.
Thanks!

Flashing a tmobile radio to verizon?

okay so my problem is that I switched to Metro from Verizon with my htc one I've seen posts back from September but not anything recent, now I'm wondering whether or not anybody's figured out if it was possible flash a radio from metro or T Mobile and get the data working with at least 3G on this phone. also I know there has been some type of debate on whether it's a hardware or software issue preventing us from actually doing something like this but I have read that all of the bands are available but Verizon operates on 750 and Metro operates on 1900 right but they said the both LTE bands are in the phone?
so essentially I asked for the tmobile bands because T Mobile & Metro merged so my base assumption is the metro and tmobile have the same bands now and then if I have the tmobile bands then I would be able to operate Metro just fine. please do correct me if I'm wrong.
If possible would I need s off?
It's never wise to flash a radio that isn't designed to be flashed on a phone.
Have you set the phone to global and put the metro SIM card in and see what happens?

yes I have talk/text but it turns my data off when I call somebody but I'm just looking how to get higher than edge at least on this phone because I want unlimited data because I travel a lot and I don't want to have to continuously pay for data throughout the month which Verizon screws you on basically
From what I've seen out of the public FCC filings, the Verizon M7's hardware was redesigned specifically for Verizon's network with a few GSM bands thrown in for basic roaming support. It physically lacks the 3G and 4G radio components to work on T-Mobile frequencies. So no matter what kind of firmware you flash, it's not gonna work for anything beyond 2G and all you might end up doing is bricking the phone. You'll have to buy a T-Mobile or international model if you want full band support.

[Q] AT&T S9 to VZW Straight Talk

A member of my family has a GS9 under AT&T, and they decided to buy a Straight Talk SIM under Verizon's networks, but AT&T is GSM and VZW is a CDMA network!
I am worried that it won't work, so can someone tell me if it would even REMOTELY work.
I don't want to switch any CSC files, as they don't want to lose data, and I can't really find a stray G960U VZW HOME_CSC.
