[Q] Dev Unlocked + 'NoDo' Update - Windows Phone 7 General

Hi guys, sorry firstly if this has been posted before, and also because it's probably quite a noobish question, but I'm going to ask anyway.
If I've unlocked my Windows Phone 7 device (Samsung Omnia 7) for development using ChevronWP7, will this mean I cannot update to 'NoDo'? I haven't yet received the notification and I know it's early days yet, but I don't want to be waiting for something that's not coming my way.
The only reason I ask, is that since I unlocked the phone I've removed Windows 7 from my MacBook (Microsoft stole my legit full license) and I can't really be bothered reinstalling it just to re-lock my device.
Any answers would be appreciated.

you can get the update when it's released for your brand and carrier but you still need zune

I have 'Windows Phone Connector For Mac' Installed on OS X, I believe that should suffice for grabbing the update. Thanks for the reply.

[Q] Backing up applications and data before unlocking

Hi,
I recently got an Htc Desire on a 3 year contract. Now, I have to unlock my device for which I have already bought the codes but before doing so, I wanted some knowledgeable people like you to tell me if I unlock my android 2.1 Htc Desire, would I lose my applications and other data. The problem is I bought an application which was quite costly for me and I do not want to lose it because I have to unlock my device. I know on Android 2.2 Froyo, I probably could have backed up my applications but is there something I can do now?
Will I be able to get updates to froyo or other updates later on from htc.
The reason I have to unlock is I will be gifting this device to my wife as her phone stopped working and I already have other phones I can manage with.
Thanking you in advance and waiting eagerly

Thank you "AndroHero". I appreciate your reply. I shall take your advise and unlock my phone now.
Also, as I asked in my original post, would I be getting updates directly from my service provide or htc's website later on whenever they are available.
Thank you!

[Q] Hacking for noobs

Hi before i start hacking my HTC Mozart 7. I just have a few questions that hopefully u guys can answer for me:
Note: I am running NoDo already
1. Can WP7 be unlocked after updating NoDo? (since most ppl did it before updating)
2. Is it reversible after unlocking? (If i press reset phone, would i go back to factory setting?)
3. Would i void my warranty in any sort of way if i unlock it? (My device is unbranded)
4. Can i back up my original rom?
5. If i change to a different rom, can i still use the back up that came with each update?
6. Any other complications associated with unlocking or changing rom?
Thank you very much for answering these noobie questions!!! Really appreciate it!
1. No
2. Yes, i believe it will stay unlocked though
3. Not sure, most likely not as there are ways of doing it legit
4. Yes, through Zune before each update a restore point is made
5. No sure, i havent seen any custom roms yet so i dont know
6. Unlocking - No. Custom roms - no idea
Im not pro at this but i think this should at least give you an idea
What would happen if i unlock it now with NoDo?
I'm pretty sure the only way to unlock with NoDo is to do it legit through Microsoft and Im not even sure if they are doing it yet. I think if you had it previously unlocked then updated to NoDo it stays unlocked. Someone correct me if Im wrong

It stays unlocked, it is dependent on the live id/account. If there are no changes, the dev unlock remains. I have just tested this.
Thanks for all the help...
So what if i unlock, update to NoDo then do a hard reset (factory), would i lose my unlock?
And if that happens, can i still go to my backup (with the NoDo update)? Then unlock again and update [email protected]@ Sounds like a never ending cycle

Step by step instructions for solving your problem:
1. Stop wasting time on this board
2. Apply for a part time job
3. Get job
4. Use cash from job to pay developers for their work
very useful posts - not.
i pay apps, but if apps have NO try version so i should pay 6 € for a app, that i dont know? not rly guys... or without unlock i cant use accent changer or something else. so please dont msg me with "get job" or something like that... very childish. u dont know me so u cant judge about me!

We don't know you, but we can judge you based off of your posts. If you are not willing to take a chance on a 6buck game, then don't.
But when you come on here advocating piracy, you will get flamed and possible banned. I wonder if you ever went back and bought any of those games after "trialing" them.... I bet not.

I have a Italian htc mozart with nodo.
I would like to downgrade to unlock it
there is a method?
Hi,
I have a HTC Mozart from the German T-Mobile.
Because it took me to much time to wait for NoDo I flashed with a HTC debranded Rom and made the update to NoDo.
Now I would like to go back to the Build 7004 of the debranded Rom to make the unlock / jailbreak and later update to NoDo.
So I thougt I just flash the debranded Rom over my current NoDo Phone.
But everytime I flash it, there is still NoDo!!!
The Rom didn't had NoDo when I flashed it in the first place. It seems like flashing doesn't work or the Phone updates it self during the first start up.
I tried it more than one time.
Flashing back to the original T-Mobile Rom brings me back to Build 7004. But when I flash now the debrandet Rom it will be NoDo!
Anybody have an idea?
I have known enough of the HTC hardware architecture over the years to realize that re-imaging should be a no-brainer but also that the devil is in the partitions. However, for some unexplained reason, Mr. Watson's note/warning makes me wonder if reflashing will actually leave it just as new...
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...all-updated-windows-phones-are-not-alike.aspx
Are you flashing using all the nbh files (meaning, *all* partitions)? What tool are you using to flash? Maybe that scenario is what he describes in his post, where there are leftovers? {however should not apply if flashing} But, you say that using the original ROM does bring everything back to 7004. Odd indeed.
As a final note and taking a different approach, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=671743. He mentions that when dumping there is a bunch of unkown partitions. What if the update stored some update-related stuff, applicable only to the unbranded version (in other words, those alledged update bits being version specific)? Such a conspiracy theory would suit your scenario.
Hi fosormic,
thanks for your answer.
Maybe I can solve the problem flashing another Rom from this site. It really seems like there is a rest of the NoDo-Update on the Phone for the HTC Rom.
But even when I flash down to 7004 with the T-Mobile Rom the NoDo pieces will stay.
A friend using Android asked me if it's not possible to set an option to erase the whole phone before flashing. That could be an option but I'm not sure if it's available on Windows Phone.
OK, I will work with the T-Mobile Rom. Do you think it will work installing NoDo and later flash back to the 7004 Version?
Regards
Dennis

Hi there, to be honest I have no clue. I suspect your friend is a Samsung user (I have 3 devices) and yes you can repartition a Samsung and very easily mess it up beyond almost almost any help. I have never seen a repartitionable HTC device but my knowledge at such low level is quite superficial. From the bootloader viewpoint they do seem almost identical (newer versions aside) to me.
Sorry not to be more helpful. It is more of an academic thing to me but I know it is a real deal to you
Best of luck mate,

[Q] Regarding Android 4.2 update for yakjuxw

Hi, i have an unlocked Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1.1 that has not received the android 4.2 OTA update. This is because my system is yakjuxw.
So i found a site explaining on how to switch to yakju or takju without loosing any data, apps etc:
http://andwise.net/?p=569
My questions are:
. Has anyone tried this?
. What are the cons?
. Does it void my phone's warranty?
Sorry if this has been asked or is posted somewhere else but i just cant seem to find it.
cheers!
Bruno
It's completely fine. In fact there is a thread specifically about the process that's been around for months.
Cool! Can u point me to it?
You have the same search function as I do.
Clearly you have not read my last paragraph.
But thank you for letting me there is a search feature, technology these days... Next thing u know there will be a global search engine for the whole Internet

clearly you didnt even bother to read the stickies. any of them.
AS a matter of fact i did, and found ways to flash a rom wiping all data from my phone, which is precisely what i don't want.
Now, i would thank those who actually came forward to answers to my questions instead of arguments that lead nowhere.
Thank you in advance.
The process in the first link is fine and works.
However to point out a few important things:
1) If your bootloader is locked you have to unlock it with: "fastboot unlock oem" and continuing with the instructions on the phone which will eventually delete all your data. (if you have flshed a ROM before you know that)
2) do install CWM recovery ( you can find instructions to do that everywhere and also on the same page you found for the 4.2) and do a Nandroid backup. This way you can go back to your original system anytime you want (I do this all the time)
3) keep also other backups of apps and contacts I find google cloud pretty handy for that.
4) The instructions mentioned on this site works but it might happen that some app or library or database is not happy with the update so the device will go in a boot loop. In this case delete dalvik-cache (it might help), but if it doesn't help you will need to delete the data or the part that causes the issue for this you might look into the logcat.
PS: Zepius, Pandas are not so cute actually ... so what's the best ROM / Kernel (stock it isn't

I have flashed many roms in my old phone using CMW. Surely i don't want to debrand my new phone, so unless the bootloader is unlocked, i guess i'll be looking forward for the yakjuxw updates.
Thank you once more!

I used to think the same way as you and i also had the same yakjuxw but the updates come too late for those versions so i decided to go yakju and i have no problems now
My advice is that you do it, if you read carefully it becomes dead easy and its worth it

As written(linked) in the article this is just the software fingerprint I can assure you will not have issues as the main software is the same. The only thing changed is who is providing the updates. Imagine windows you get with dell and hp PC they both have their logos (yakju/xw) but the windows is the same s*itty windows
I used tohave yakjuxw, changed to yakju, takju back to xw.. not im on yakju. This is my job indeed to test apps on diff android versions and i flash time quite often every day and i can assure you all works fine
Anyway if you need a ROM that tells you it is xw let me know Ill upload one for you

Just to let future googlers know that the solution to convert yakjuxw to yakju as seen on this site:
http://andwise.net/?p=569
has soft bricked my phone! I was able to flash a new ROM using Gnex toolkit but (of course) i did lose all my data!
BTW, with android 4.2.2 i'm noticing that wireless turns off after i lock the phone, is there a way round this or is it a new bug ?
4.2.1 Update
I've got a Galaxy Nexus with the yakjuxw build. Previously my phone's Android version was 4.1.1. Just this morning I got the 4.2.1 update! Fire away on the Check Now buttons guys.

LS990 Update Issues

hello everybody, quick question and i apologize in advance if this has been covered somewhere else or for just being a dumb question in general; I have the LG G3 from sprint and a little over a month ago i had a friend root my phone and convert it back to stock android. In anticipation for android 5.0 I removed the root. for over the past week I have been spamming the update software button and still have no lollipop. one of my good friends told me that by converting back to stock android i probably disabled the over the air updates. I was wondering about how to go about getting the updates, i have seen some posts suggesting to use the lg flash tool but I did not really comprehend how to use it. sorry if this is something stupid still really new to android.
thanks

In that case its best if you take into your local sprint store and see if they can fix it for you
I highly do not advise trying to flash the Lollipop TOT files as a fair majority of people have bricked their phone since they did not do it properly or something went wrong during the process
