Hey, newbie here so i need some advice.
i already have a custom rom and now i want to flash radio, anyone can guide me along?
Questions,
Can i use any type of radio.img file? or must it be country specific [Singapore]
How do i check if i have radio s-off and/or Eng s-off?
any tips on what to do and what not to do?
Thanks =)
You need to have Eng, S-Off to flash a new radio. I guess you already have that. to check Eng-Off, boot your device to bootloader and see if it says Eng-OFF on the top.
Then follow this beautifully written guide here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
i only see ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF is that eng s-off? what about radio s-off?
you should read this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846248
to be simple: you need Radio S-OFF and Eng S-Off (to know what it means, read the thread above).
So, root, get S-OFFs, and flash radio:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537 <-- Radio S-Off (you already have it)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403 <-- Eng S-Off
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597 <-- Flashing Radio
really easy! =o)
Edit: and you can flash any radio, not carrier or country restrict!

Install ENG HBOOT (S-OFF) >>Step 2 - ENG HBOOT (S-OFF)<<
If your flashing a radio I strongly recommend >>Radio S-OFF<<
Then follow >>This Guide<<

No, he needs ENG S-OFF, not Radio S-OFF
Yes, as far as I know, ENG S-Off is must to have to revert (downgrade) radio.
Apologies, Eddie1506 is correct you only need ENG S-OFF.
However, I still recommend Radio S-OFF. If your unlucky enough to flash a radio that prevents root & downgrading, Radio S-OFF comes to the rescue.
thats only if you flash the OTA update if you flash the radio sepereately you dont loose root and S-OFF
You can't do radio s-off after upgrading the radio so best to do it before. If you don't you won't have any opportunity to downgrade the radio again if it gives you any issues. It's unlikely you will get issues but better safe than sorry.

Hi i have been trying to flash radio.img and have followed the steps in the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
However my phone always gets stuck/hang just as its about to finish when i do this step : 8. Once your phone has rebooted in to bootloader screen Type fastboot flash radio radio.img
What should i do?
Sorry to ask you a stupid question but do you have ENG S-Off? And from the radio thread you have to "wait until the send and write operations are completed (this may take a few minutes)".
yes i have s-off and eng-off already
in the command prompt it says writing 'radio' .....
it has been stuck like this for the past 40min :/
Did you have a look at the youtube flashing radio video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1dpfa0IAxw
i've just watched the video, and i did the same thing. but i would get stuck at around the 6min part of the video
Try these 2 tools;
1. Thread: [TOOL][All devices & OS] Fastboot Commander [v.1.1]
Download: Fastboot Commander v1.1
or
2. Thread: [UTILITY] Android Flasher
Download: Android Flasher v1.72
thanks very much! will try it
Don't you need Radio-Off to flash radio?
S-off and ENG S-off is for roms only I think.

Check out that guide aswell

You require s-off to flash custom ROMs and kernels. You require ENG S-off to flash a radio.
Edit: To quote from the above thread "After running this tool, you can flash any ROM and kernel to your device using ClockworkMod"
To quote from the same thread FAQ:
"Q: Why is this Radio Tool, does it flash a radio?
- From end user's view, it has nothing to do with radios, the name comes from the S-OFF technique this tool uses."
"Q: I tried to flash a radio, but it says not allowed!
- You will also need ENG S-OFF to flash radios, because ENG S-OFF enables fastboot commands"
Maybe pay to actually have a read of actually what your posting first, and if you'd read a few post's earlier, the OP said he was already ENG S-off?

Read on another forum about radio-off. Didn't know eng s-off was the same, sorry.

No, its not the same. I know it can be hard to get your head around it at first, But if you ENG S-off, you will also need S-off first. If you have both, Bootloader will show only ENG S-off.
Edit: assume the op has managed to flash the radio?.. as we haven't heard back.

I read the other thread about Radio-Off and ENG S-off and I think I got a hang of it now
I have both so that's why I got a bit confused. Good to learn new things everyday
Hi Guys I've just picked up a DHD from vodafone UK and want to root the device to install Gingerbread without all the vodafone branding and apps they force on you.

There is no sense 2.3
You'll need to downgrade, root the phone and then upgrade to a stock unbranded rom. try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Downgrade to earlier version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Use tools to root, Radio S-OFF
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
Get ENG S-OFF
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403
Oops sorry I meant sense version 2.1.
I had a search but it came up with so many different methods, it was a tad confusing. I'll back up my phone and sd card and give this a bash.
Cheers for your help

Technically you don't need either (as long as you are rooted) but I would not recommend doing so without them.
With Radio S-OFF (often referred to simply as S-OFF) and ENG S-OFF you can flash both ROMs and Radio's.
Make sure you have clockworkmod recovery installed to make backups and restore should things go wrong.
the really most important thing, is to follow the guides step by step!

My friend, rooted and Eng s-offed his phone in the beginning, but he didn't radio s-off.
Now he is on Runny 1.5, and he wants to radio s-off his phone whit one click s-off.
But it requires "Desire HD with stock kernel (or Apache14's 1.0.7 / 1.1.4 Sense)"
Can someone link me to one of the kernels so i can flash it for him.?

I think that "s-off" is referring to the radio. If you are s-off you can flash radios through the bootloader. Check the development thread. If you're talking about turning eng s-off, it is mostly recomended to leave it alone. From my understanding it is easier to brick your phone with eng s-off, so I wouldn't do it unless you are sure you know what you're doing.

hello,
i would like to flash radio on my desire HD. In the bootloader i see following:
ACE PVT ENG S-OFF
with the above setting, does it mean i have ENG and Radio S-OFF so that i can flash the radio without any other intermediatory step?
Also,in case i want to revert back to original Radio after flashing a new one, will the nandroid backup/restore help ?
Radio S-OFF and Eng S-OFF are two different things. You need to do the Radio S-OFF procedure to be able to flash radios. Nandroid backups and restores do not affect the radio. It's independent of the ROM, that's why there's a different flashing process for radios.

A nandroid backup will not restore a radio. All you have to do is reflash the old one.
If you have engsoff yes you can flash radios
thanks for the feedback guys, was able to flash the radio..
