If i update from RC1 to RC2 will i lose all of my apps and data? How do i do the update?
Are you using clockwork or Amon Ra for recovery? Just download RC2 and the latest gapps and put them on the root of you sd card. Make a nand backup of your current setup, then wipe cache and dalvik and flash CM7 RC2 and gapps in the same recovery session. That should do it. If it doesn't work, you may have to wipe data, but if all goes well, you shouldn't lose anything.
Make sure it's the latest gapps though b/c the gapps for RC1 and RC2 are different.
I am using clockwork mod
Never used clockwork, but flash the same way you flashed RC1, but backup first. Then wipe cache, dalvik and flash RC2 and gapps.
Where can i get the new gapps? they are not in the same place as the download mirrors for CM7 RC2
For the record, you do not have to download the newest Gapps (especially since there's been a few problems with the newest set). If all of your Gapps are working fine you needn't worry

I have an evo and rooted it correctly.. I used Rom manager to download CyanogenMod 6.1.1 and Installed onto my phone. It works, but I cannot open apps like market, browser, sms, etc. without the a notification popping up saying CONSTANTLY and I mean all the time.. like every 15 seconds saying "Android.process.acore" has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
what do I do to fix this? I made a nandroid back up so I can flash back, but I'd rather not if I can eliminate this problem...
Did you install the g-apps zip? If yes, did you install the right type (hdpi)?
Those are two things that come to mind for me.
Swyped on my PC36100 using tapatalk!
You should flash AmonRA recovery from Rom Manager (Clockwork is nice, but rumors of bad wiping habits exsist)
Download the actual zip of CM6.1.1 and Gapps
Put them on the root of your SD card
Boot into recovery, wipe data, cache, and dalvik (twice if you want to be sure)
Flash from zip - CyanogenMod 6.1.1
Flash from zip - gapps
Wipe cache and dalvik again. Reboot
(unless you don't want to lose any of your data, thats the way to flash clean and fresh) I use MyBackup Pro (worth the 5$) to backup all my SMS and MMS etc. Never had a problem with it ever. Love it over Titanium Backup
I upgraded to the latest clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 and when I switch ROMs, I notice some of my item's are still "cached". For example, I was using Evervolv and then did a wipe of data, cache, and davlik, and flashed the RC1 for CM7. GApps are not packaged with either of these ROMs but when I booted up CM7 for the first time after flashing, GApps are installed, without me doing so. Is there an issue with the latest version of deleting cache or am I not doing enough wiping?
I am running into exactly the same problem. Works fine for flash over but the minute you choose wipe in ROM Manager of do a data wipe in recovery it does not make any difference. Not sure it is clearing anything in cache or data or at least consistently.
None of the other ROM devs have posted this so I am not sure what is going on
I am still messing with it
EDIT: You may want to post this in the ROM thread also so the devs are aware
i had the same problem.. From what i have been ready downgrade to cwm 2.5.1.2 and it should help..it did for me. the new cwm isnt running as good with some of the roms out there.
I have been trying to flash the new Gingerbread Sense v5.9.4 by RCMixHD. I am coming from my rooted Evo 4g with Cm7 Stable.
I have placed the .zip on my SD card, rebooted into recovery, wiped cache, wiped, davlik cache, and wiped data. I then flashed the .zip file, it went through everything, said it was installed, reboot, and enjoy. I reboot and It boots right back into Cm7.
I have tried this through Rom Manager wiping all data and cache with the same results.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm pretty new at this, and would love to know what I'm doing wrong or how to correct this problem?
Thanks!
What recovery are you using? If it is not amon RA v2.3, I highly recommend that you download and flash its PC36IMG.zip from the bootloader screen. Obviously, your current recovery is not wiping properly. Try again, but wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card and then flash the rom again.

Can I find that with the link to the Radio on your signature?
You can indeed use the link in my signature to download and flash amon RA v2.3 recovery.

Guys I tried to flash CM 7.1 stable on my girlfriend's defy and on the first try it didn't install correctly the google apps so I had to reflash them again.
Since that moment I couldn't be able to access the rom anymore, it was stuck in boot loop.
So I flashed some sbf's but I was'nt satisfied with any of them so everytime I try to repeat the whole procedure (root, recovery, flash) the CM 7.1 rom that I flash doesn't start, it stops on the CM boot logo.
Today I tried again installing CM starting from a Froyo sbf, but again no success, this time it's stuck on the original motorola logo, not even the CM one.
What can I do? it seems like I'm not able to properly flash a rom anymore, only sbf's work. Thanks!

I wiped data. I installed 2ndinit 1.9

You should also do a full wipe (data/cache/dalvik/Battery Stats) AFTER applying all the zips.
wipe everything and try
wipe both data/cache and then try
if its for your girlfriend's phone then try cmiui its awesome man.
im sure you will be appreciated for this from your girlfriend.

there you go thats the problem installing 1.9 and trying to install cm causes a bootloop use 1.4 that is known to be stable and will work !!!!
got CM 12.1 release installed on my sgh-t999 and am wanting to update to latest 12.1 nightly, do I just wipe cache/dalvik and then flash via twrp and then flash gapps or should I wipe data as well and then flash? also, do I need to flash gapps every time I flash a new nightly?
You can try dirty flashing the new nightly over the old nightly. There should be no need to perform a full wipe and re-install gapps unless you have altered the old nightly to much to let a dirty flash work.
I understand about dirty flashing one nightly over the next, but was curious if it was any different flashing a nightly over a 'release'
Nope, should not make any difference.
So I don't have to wipe cache or dalvik? Just flash?
Yup. If it doesn't boot, you may gave to perform a full wipe before installing.
