Hey guys
I've been really happy with the performance of the HTC desire and had no real thoughts about rooting it and upgrading the ROM untill I realized that it was possible to connect a Wii Remote and play games on the phone. However, this does not work on stock Desires, apparently due to a bug in HTC's software.
So since I have a long plane ride to look forward to, I really want to get this gaming solution going, since playing emulators on a touchscreen is borderline masochistic. What I need to know is what is the latest ROM that has not been touched by sense and will work for sure with the Wii Remote
Thanks, I really appreciate the help.
Michael
Any AOSP (non sense) rom should allow Wii-remote connection using the 'WiimoteController' app from the market. I've personally used Cyanogen, Oxygen and a few other non-sense roms, all worked.
Hmm so its sense that causes the problem?

Yeah, the Bluetooth drivers that come with Sense do not allow you to pair a Wiimote, I remember Dev's complaining to HTC about it.

I've been lingering around here for a while without putting my voice out so hello. So Hello!
Anyway, I live in Philly and we have 4G but I rarely ever find the need for it. So I've been considering moving over to CM6 permanently. Why? Because CM6 has a good HID Bluetooth stack. I'm currently running Fresh Evo 3.1.0.2 with Netarchy's 4.0.3 Toastmod Kernel. The phone is running very smooth but I'm longing to play NES Games with a wiimote. (Ya, I know it's silly, but whatever!)
My question is, has anyone heard from flipz, or netarchy, or kings, etc about whether or not they plan on attempting to implement a uncrippled version of froyo with Sense and the true android bluetooth stack?
ah you havnt lurked enough!
the problem is with the bt stack AND sense. seems they dont work well together, something in sense causing conflicts, maybe a custom library (i dont know)?
either way its not that the devs DONT want to do it, they currently cant.
cm6 is cool, i like it and use it currently as my daily rom. however i havnt paired a controller with it. id rather play snes roms myself. some good old chrono tirgger and ff3 <3

Ya, that too. I just wanna play thru goonies II & metroid, then I'll start looking at SNES stuff.
So basically we need HTC to either fix the conflicting libs, or release source for Sense so the community can fix it themselves.

Wait a minute.....are you saying that with CM6, I may be able to pair my phone to a PS3? Or what if Sense is completely removed from my current Fresh rom and I use Launcher Pro.....will that allow the BT stack to be more compatible with other devices?
Just a shot in the dark, really.

Hmmmm......I think I'm going to have to get get CM6 on my phone just to try it out. If it works, I can always back up my roms and go back from one to the other. Maybe I'll like the CM6 rom and keep it since there is no 4G in Miami yet. CM6 is one of the few I haven't experimented with yet.

Goonies II . . . classic.
"Ouch! What do you do?"
The wiimote is pretty cool. I have one of the retro gamepad bluetooth wii controllers and had it working great with CM6 with SNES, NES and Sega emulators.
I had an original Hero a while ago and was using Modaco roms but that was over a year ago now before jumping to Palm Pre for a bit.
So I am totally new on modern hacks and concerning the DHD.
I know I need to downgrade and something called S-OFF and Visionary. However what I need to know is if I use a 2.3 Rom presumably from a Cyanogen source will I have full functionality? All Google Apps? Can I still use HTC Sense widgets if I choose too? Will HTCSense.com still work?
Thanks

Depends where you get it from, but on here most are full of bugs currently, I would wait until they are ironed out. No HTCSense.com won't work without the HTC Sense homescreen, but I would only worry about this if you REALLY need the service. Google Apps will work, and if they arent supplied they can be downloaded from the Market

Really? I have been running Cm7 (compiled from source and Now nightlies) and the only bug is a quirk in video playback in portrait mode everything else works fine, true if you like sense cm isn't gonna be your bag but otherwise it's great

No I want to try vanilla 2.3 for a bit. I have only ever used Android with Sense overlay.
You saying the Cm7 nightlys are stable for day2day use and all apps are available on it? Is it the thread over in Dev forum?

I'm using CM7 Nightlys on day2day basis, on build #5 atm, got no problems with it at all.
Thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917271
Alltho i recomend reading up on the full proess around rooting and flashing recovery, radio and roms a few times to ensure your not getting a brick out of it
does 2.3 bring with it marvelous battery life improvements?
I did all the nececssary and now I am succesfully running slightly modded cyanogen7 daily #5. Very stable actually no problems at all so far other than the Microbes live wall paper freezing and needing a reload

Okay, let me state my dilemma:
- I don't really like the Sense ROMs like the stock, LeeDroidHD, RevolutionHD,... mainly because 1. the style insn't really my thing and 2. they have the bluetooth issue and I like playing games with the wireless classical Wii controller, wich I can't with Sense ROMS.
- I love CM6 & 7 and MIUI apart from the fact that they have the "black unresponsive screen after call"-problem... wich really is a dealbreaker (you can't go around yanking out your battery every time someone calls you, it's a $600 phone, you expect it to be able to make calls propperly... it's madness)! I think the problem might have to do because of the missing Rosie/Sense wich the Desire HD needs to work okay. Or at least to not have the stupid "black screen"-problem...
Now my question (and hope) is regarding the MoDaCo ROM:
Does anyone know if I can strip of the Sense-ish stuff in the kitchen so you have the look and feel of stock Android (Froyo), but keep the core of Rosie so it can handle the phone fine?
Isnt there already a modaco rom like that

doing that would defeat the object of what you want, if you stripped down a sence rom, you could make it feel aosp but it would still be using the htc framework, hence you wii controller wont work
ANGUS!
I have nothing useful to add to this thread.
Hey guys i dun knw if anyone else has been facing this issue but fifa 12 crashes my phn and it hangs..only workaround is a reboot..m on miui..tried blackice...other cm7roms and other miui roms..now the game works fine with sense roms but with aosp it crashes..only thing common in all the roms tat failed is the cm7 base and lordclockan kernals...can anyone help..wud b thankful...!

AOSP roms are known for having app compatibility issues as most apps are not made for the opensource drivers they use. Not sure about MIUI
Having the same problem, assumed it was that big business game devs don't worry about testing against customs roms, and ROM devs are focused on overall functionality and not so much specific game play ability.

It is all wrapped up in the drivers used in AOSP and MIUI roms. The open source drivers are not really set up to work 100% with the hardware. Take it like a PC when you load Ubuntu. Yes the ipensource deicers work but they don't hold a candle to the drivers built for the device. Same thing here. One of my main reasons for only using roms built of of roms built for my device

So based on your response and given my phone is an HTC model, you'd recommend a Sense-based ROM vs. CM7 or the like? I should qualify that with something like "if I want to be able to play all my games, etc. w/o a problem". I am no too fond of Sense (although if you ask why I couldn't justify with reasons), but I am getting antsy and want to really see what other ROMS are out there.
Thanks for your response, and I wouldn't ask you this type of question if it wasn't for your signature line )

As for working without a problem that is never a sure thing. You can run a HTC based rom without sense if you don't like the launcher. That's what I personally use. I have used a CM based rom from time to time and always end up going back when some of my apps stop working.
I finally got an hdmi cable so I could use my old Evo as a Netflix and gaming device. I flashed CM7 and the SavageZen kernel and I'm having a problem where once I start mirroring over hdmi the WiFi goes to hell and can't maintain a connection which makes Netflix totally unusable. Anyone else have trouble like this?
Now I'm trying Decks 1.3 with the kernel it comes with and it does the same thing. Does this happen to everyone or do I have some sort of hardware problem? Arrrgh
Mason kernels work beautifully for me. Also set the cpu to max in the HDMwin app settings. It will only be set to max while you have it running in the back ground.
same problems even with the mason kernel. This is a total bummer.
Could be your TV or port. Try flashing a sense ROM with a mirroring kernel to see if it will work at all.
Way ahead of you. Just put a rooted copy of the latest OTA on the phone. The normal hdmi capabilities are working fine. I'm watching YouTube on the tv over WiFi now. I guess I'm just having software trouble with AOSP roms and kernels and my phone is really picky. Too bad I can't use Bluetooth gamepads with Sense roms....
Guess I just need to keep searching for a combo that works for me.

Use a Wiimote if you have one. There are a few apps for Wiimote bluetooth connectivity and you can have different saved setups for the buttons. Works well with sense roms as long as you're rooted.

I've never seen a wiimote work in Sense. That's the only reason I'm putting aosp on the Evo anyway. Do you have a wiimote and have made it work with Sense?
All the Wii emote apps say they don't work with the htc sense ui. That's because of htc's crippled Bluetooth stack. I'm not exactly new at this, I've been frustrated by it for years.
Unless you know something I don't know then I need to be on AOSP.
However, it is my understanding that the latest devices like the One X with sense 4.0 no longer have this problem, so lucky them!
Phew! I think I got it sorted finally. I went back to the official CM 7.1 rom and coupled with the mason kernel my WiFi isn't dropping out any more. Looks like rom choice was playing a huge role here.
For sense try bluezime but Rwiimote works for non sense.

Oh I know how to use a wiimote on non sense roms. I just use the "Wii controller" app.
I could swear I've tried bluezime on sense before and it didn't work. I'll give it another whirl on my evo 3d for kicks.

So out of curiosity I tried bluez IME again with the latest rooted stock rom. It still doesn't work even with the HID enabler. Just as I remembered.
However, much to my surprise it DOES work on my Evo V 4G running Sense. I think HTC finally unborked the bluetooth somewhat in the ICS Sense builds.

I'm having the same issue. Just rooted for the first time, but loving it so far. I'm running MikG 3.11 and Anthrax 2.6.38.6 #4 on my Evo 4G. HDMI mirroring works great, but not internet connection to use it with. Any idea if I should I change my kernel, or my rom? I'm new to this, but enjoying the learning process. Much thanks!

Try an AOSP rom with Mason kernel. Don't use the A-word kernel. Check all your settings and make sure everything will stay awake and keep screen set to always on. I use HDMI mirroring on a daily basis and have never ran into a wifi issue.
