ROM question - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it legal to make a rom around launcher pro free version

Yes.
You will actually be doing them a service, you'll encourage new users to download the PRO package who may have otherwise never of downloaded LP.

Great job. Installed without any problem. Keep well.
Good
Like it. Runs smooth, everything that is said to work, works. But some bugs, aside that from gr8Nole's CM12. For example, I can't change keyboard, settings just crash when I'm trying to.
UPD: fixed in 21.01 version
net::ERR_UNKNOWN_URL_SCHEME
I am still playing around with this rom when I have time. So far to my surprise, everything is working nice as it should. The only problem I have come across so far though is when I click certain links, they dont seem to parse/click correctly. Several times when click a URL I get the error: net::ERR_UNKNOWN_URL_SCHEME An easy way to recreate it is to go to this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 (SuperSU on XDA) and scroll down and click on the Download: SuperSU on Google Play (free) link while using the rom. I would post it here, but I am typing from a PC right now and have to be quick. The link loads just fine on the PC too. I have done this in the past with 4.4.4 roms and last I recall it was working properly. When searching Google for the error, everything relates to code, which is out of my knowledge. A couple forums with people having issues were all unresolved or were told to restart, but it makes no difference. Now it doesn't do this all the time, but it has happened several times which makes it a small annoyance mostly, and assuming it should not do this at all. Hopefully I am not the only one having this issue and it can be fixed. Let me know if there is any other info I can provide.
Hmmm, I cant recreate the issue here...all links open fine...ibopen everything with chrome....what are you using? I find that some links wont open properly with the stock browser...
Is there no t315 support? I can't find any lollipop ROM for my tab 3 t315
No, sorry...we need the device to build for it...as of now we only have a sm t310 ...
I don't mind testing ROMs if you want to develop some I want lollipop for my device lol
Its not a matter of what you want, or what you are willing to do....I am not the dev....or a dev period...I'm going by what they are telling me to tell you.....no device = no build....blind builds are a pain and headache for devs....sorry
Hey Aries...
Thanks for getting back. I felt like a noob when I realized I was using the stock browser. I just been use to PA gapps in the 4.4.4 builds totally replacing the stock browser with Chrome. Since we are using Banks with Validus, is there some way I can manually inject or replace the stock browser with chrome? If it is a pain in the ass or not possible, is there a way to remove the stock browser once Chrome is installed? The same situation applies with the Nova launcher. I slightly prefer the Apex launcher and have the pro version on Google play. In the 4.4.4 roms, I was able to use Root uninstaller to remove leftover stuff I will never use in 4.4.4 roms, but it fails to remove it in LP. It is possible the Root uninstaller app isnt updated for LP, and may test some alternatives. It is just a minor issue figure I would ask to see what your thoughts were on it. If I could somehow replace nova and the stock with Apex and Chrome so when I flash it, it would be great as it is already there without the extra apps I will not use.
Aside from that I finally had some time to flash the latest build 1/31? and it is nice. I ended up doing a clean install since I was not vested much into the previous build anyway. When going through the primary setup, typing the Google account name, etc. It closed unexpectedly and told me it did, but it was at the end. Not sure if it was just a hiccup, but it saved my info from what I can tell and still works great. The dark theme is a perfect fit too. I look forward for future updates and will continue to use them.

I keep stock browser and chrome on both my devices but if you want to remove it you can...validus has system app remover built in...go to developer settings and its right at the top....remove whatever system stuff you don't use or want there browser is in there..then reboot...simple....or you can use apps like titanium backup or rom toolbox pro to do the same thing....I prefer rom toolbox as it does tons of stuff....great app to buy...
As for nova you can remove it the same way if you want to....or just install apex and set it as your default launcher under Home in settings menu...

Testing & Maintenance of Validus roms for Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 SM-T311
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 SM-T311.
And I am always ready to experiment on my tab.
So i can test the roms developed for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 SM-T311 and find the bugs and can maintain Validus for this device but i cant build the roms.
And i am also ready to learn how to develop a rom if you people are ready to teach me.
So please develop this great rom for this device model also.
Thank You.

Crashing of System UI
The ROM's quite smooth till now, except for the crashing of the System UI whenever the theme is changed.
It's a minor issue and can be considered a negligible one. Other than this, I find the customization options a bit limited than what the other ROMs like SpiritRom (for v4.4), offered.

Nice port, only chrome is a bit bugy and a game like crossy road does no t work.

Just received my new Mi Max, now what?

Ive just received my Mi Max from Top-One.
It is the S652, 3gb ram, 64gb storage
It has Miui 7.3.14.0.0
How do I update it to the latest stable MIUI version?
thank you
(when i use the in built updater it tells me that there are no updates available )
I think only the 32gb 650 has a global rom at the moment. I have the 652 4gb 128gb Max and am waiting for that global rom to come. Check on en.miui.com in the download section for the Max.
In the meantime, check if your ROM is legit. Actually, I'd unlock the bootloader and flash a new ROM to be sure.
Register a Mi account and apply for bootloader unlocking. Doesn't matter if you're outside of China and use a non Chinese number and state your reason in English. Takes a few days.
I bought a Mi5, Max, and Redmi Pro then made three new accounts and unlocked each one within 4 days.
Most important is to probably make sure you're not on a vendor rom.
Also tinker the app notifications. Enable notification light, lock screen notification, floating etc.
You might also want to "lock" apps in the memory so they won't reload or stop after you switch apps. To do that press the menu button and swipe down to.the app you want to be locked in memory. Then press the lock key.

How?
Vendor ROMs
Most Xiaomi devices that are bought through unofficial channels (grey market) come with this type of ROM. It has multiple languages and Google Play Store, but often also adware and bloatware, which are annoying and slow the phone down. This ROM is also buggy and unoptimised, so some things might not work (e.g. battery showing negative percentage or the rear LED not working at all), you might encounter issues and inconsistencies (e.g. freezing, lagging) and because of these attributes it is not safe to use. You can get rid of this ROM by flashing another ROM, usually via MiFlash. If your bootloader is locked, you can only flash official ROMs and only via EDL mode (see here).
Spotting a vendor ROM
It has system languages available other than Chinese and English
It has Google Play Store
Below Settings > About phone, MIUI version is fake (e.g. V7.00.99.00, V7.0.7.0.0 or 7.91.8.0) and the letter code afterwards has 'CN' or 'CL' in it
So what are the steps necessary to get this onto the latest stable official miui rom?
First thing you want to do is to get rid of the vendor ROM on your phone. En.miui.com has some tutorials on how to do it.

I have the exact same phone model (Mi Max Pro 3GB RAM, 64GB ROM) and the exact same
ROM: MIUI 7.3.14.0.0 Global as you have. Got my phone from a Chinese ebay vendor with very good
to excellent reviews.
Been using this 'unofficial vendor ROM' for quite sometime now and in fairness to whoever made the 'custom'
vendor ROM (I believe it is derived from the official global ROM of the 32GB Mi Max), the vendor ROM is very stable
and working very well for me. No reboots, forced closes/crashes or major problems with any of my 130+ apps:
Google apps (Gmail, playstore, newsstand, etc.), 10+ paid apps and 100+ free apps. The good thing about the ROM
is it has ZERO Chinese characters or apps in it. Just choose 'English' as default language and you're good to go.
I have decided to wait for the OFFICIAL global rom for the Mi Max Pro 64GB since the official Chinese ROM is
no good - it doesn't have playstore installed and installing playstore from third party sites is just as risky and tricky as having
a vendor/custom rom in the first place since you will be sideloading the playstore app, play services (and other supporting apps)
anyway. If you don't understand Chinese, how can you trust the sources of those sideloaded playstore apps? I'd rather
trust my vendor ROM as it comes from a seller with very good ebay rating (they care a lot about positive and negative feedback).
A Mi Max phone from a vendor selling the phone with malware and adware infested ROM will be bombarded with negative feedback.
Besides, I have not noticed any malicious apps, unusual ads or bloatware on this vendor ROM (MIUI 7.3.14.0.0) and
I trust it is the best option for me until such time the OFFICIAL global ROM for MI MAX PRO 64GB is released.
If you decide to go official, download the Chinese ROM but don't install playstore. Installing it from dubious sources
can introduce bloatware and malicious apps as well if you are not familiar with the Chinese app market or don't understand
a single Chinese character.

Honestly I think you have a greater shot at bricking your phone after flashing a custom rom if it's locked. Or flashing the wrong firmware from a different model. I didn't have to do a battery pull after I flashed the wrong firmware on my Helium when I first got it. It's probably because I was already unlocked. I don't know why anyone here wouldn't wanna unlock.

Couple of questions about Pixelizing Xiaomi Mi 6

Hi All, I purchased my Mi 6 like half a year ago, and I asked some questions with regards to this device back then (reference: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-6/help/xiaomi-user-issues-actual-issues-t3703112 ) . I then gave up for some time, but would like to revisit some of my initial issues with the device.
DISCLAIMER: I am not very knowledgable on Xiaomi stuff, this is my first phone from them. I owned it for around six months and I still didn't root it... I just didn't see any _worthy_ rom to be installed. Please bear in mind, that although I am technically savvy and rooted all my previous phones always, I might sound as a total noob here since I didn't follow the scene very much.
At present, I have requested the unlock with Xiaomi, and they granted me the possibility to root the phone, but I haven't done so yet.
I am thus running on stock MIUI 9.5.6.0.(OCAMIFA). The Android is 8.0.0. OPR1.170623.027.
What I would like to achieve, is to get my Mi6 as close to current Pixel devices as possible. I understand that I could purchase the Pixel phone in the first place, but the price tag on them is too high..
(I am mostly interested in having the most recent version of Assistant available on my Xiaomi, and Pixel UI instead of MIUI)
I am unable to install Google Phone.
When I visit google store from PC, I can search for Google Phone, but can't install it. https://i.imgur.com/21fh9hq.png (and the reason why it's not compatible is not being disclosed). If I search google play store from the device itself, the app isn't even listed in the results. If I download any version of the Android Dialer app from APKMirror, and try to install - the installation would start, and then fail with a single message (App not installed https://i.imgur.com/gOolw3H.png ). I tried ARM, ARM64, both in NODPI and other DPIs, also, I tried app versions 19.0... and 20.0... from https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/ . Always getting the same error.
What's interesting, is that I was able to install Google Messages, Google Contacts and any other google app without any problems, but I can't install the Phone app from google. I have also been able to install rootles-pixel-launcher from APK
I am left with the phone app from xiaomi, which is not integrated with Google Message / Contacts apps, and vice-versa.
I am looking for the clear up the following doubts:
1. Anyone experienced problem installing the Google Phone ?
2. Any idea how to further debug why I can't install Google Phone ?
3. Are you aware of any up-to-date rom giving me the pixel experience (The Pixel Experience thread has a lot of people askingn for updates - is it dead ?)
4. I start missing my LG Nexus 4, did I purchase the wrong device for what I am trying to achieve with it ? I start getting the feeling that I picked a phone with not enough scene going for it. Or is the scene in China?
Sorry for lengthy post, and appreciate any input.
cheers
You need to flasy Google Framework, then you can use googles apps like "phone"
Install any AOSP based rom, flash Gapps, root with magisk and search the download section for the 'Pixel 2 experience' module. I chose the last launcher, "new custom launcher"
Check if camera2api is enabled. It should be because of the pixel experience module but if it isn't yet download a magisk module for enabling it.
Check the Gcam threads on here for the recommended Gcam APKs and make sure to install Google photos too.
Last step is install the magisk module "Google framework" and installing the phone app etc. from the playstore.
After I followed these steps any AOSP based rom feels very pixel-like and Gcam even makes me think I actually bought one from time to time
Edit: I'm starting to think the pixel experience module actually has the framework included already as I currently don't have the framework module installed and I was able to download the phone app without any problems.
Good luck!

MIUI 11 Google Pay

Good morning good people of xda.
I have Xiaomi mi6 MIUI version 11.0.3 Stable android version 9PKQ1
So I wanted to install Google Pay and it showed me that it's not for my phone or something along those lines.
My question is if there is any way to install and use the Google Pay application on this phone.
Preferably without having to install custom rom or anything of that sort because I kind of bricked my last phone doing that.
(kind of = I did exactly that, rip my sweet Nexus 5x you will be forever missed)
I appreciate the help, and if you are still reading this I wish you a good day and best of luck in your journey through life.
also: I tried searching on the main page for this problem but only phones pop up and was unable to find the right thread for my problem, so sorry if its already answered.
There might be a solution if you're willing to give the xiaomi.eu ROM a shot, which based on the MIUI Chinese Beta, just without Ads. I used to have this ROM installed for my MI 6, which enabled GPay to run flawlessly. Note that it's a third party ROM by a team in Poland, not by Xiaomi itself. So if you're in, TWRP is required. The only problem for xiaomi.eu ROM on MI 6 is that, the phone is neither encrypted by default nor to be encrypted through system settings. I think there's already solutions in XDA forum to fix that, by changing system build.
Due to the fact I'm a freshman in the XDA forum, I'm not allowed to post any outside links. Be sure to Google search xiaomi.eu yourself.
Wish that helps.
