[Q] Need a little help installing CyanogenMod & EXT4 - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to turn my phone into a fast AOSP with EXT4. From what I've read, CyanogenMod & EXT4 is the way to go. My previous phone was a TP2 with XDAndroid, so I can work around some things not working.
Here's how I'm trying to get it going, and it keeps hanging at the SAMSUNG logo when I power it on:
1: Download ROM & Apps from android.stolenrobot.com/Epic4G/epic.htm
2: One click root 3.0.0.6
3: Copy CyanogenMod, Google apps, to root of SD card
4: Reboot into CW, let it reformat EXT4.
5: Wipe data/factory reset
6: Wipe cache partition
7: Install zip from sd card, choose CyanogenMod. Let it do it's thing
8: Install zip from sd card, choose apps zip, let it run
9: Reboot - Hangs at SAMSUNG - WTF?
Thanks for any help!

Sorry, disregard, I wasn't flashing the kernel. That should have been after step 6 & before step 7. Did that, and everything's working so far. Just set up my gmail info, so it's looking good!

Need help flashing Synergy

I'm currently on CM7 and used to be on Synergy. I had been trying to get a2sd working, ended up flashing the stock kernel from Kernel Manager and then Synergy wouldn't boot up so I ended up wiping everything and reflashing CM7. Now I've been trying to get back into Synergy but I can't get it to boot up. Is it because I'm using Clockwork Recovery?
Can anyone tell me a simple step-by-step to get from my current rom to Synergy with working a2sd? I really would appreciate it, I couldn't get it to work for me at all. I have no experience with partitioning my SD card or ext-2, 3, 4. Thanks everyone.
so can you get into boot loader?
Yes, I can. I have CW recovery.
im also new to this but the way i flashed was.....
1. Download Synergy and place it in root of SD
2. Install rom manager (Free).
3. open and press on INSTALL ROM FROM SD CARD
4. look for the synergy zip file
5. WIPE DATA AND CACHE & WIPE DALVIK CACHE.
6. check yes to everything and good to go!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the only way i know to to flash roms, so if this was not any Help to you then Sorry!
Oh ffs, do NOT use ROM Manager.....
Here, if are using A2SD, follow this, and while you read, put Amon Ra on for recovery.
1) Copy all your files to a backup folder on your computer
2) Using the phone, format your SD Card.
3) Reboot to Recovery.
4) scroll to Partition SD Card, then partition SD.
5) If you have a larger than 8MB Card, choose swap size of 128 and partition of 2048
6) After it creates the partition, go to partition SD Card EXT2 to EXT3
7) Copy your files back to your SD Card, including the Synergy ROM via USB toggle or a card reader (Faster)
8) reboot to recovery, choose wipe, then wipe All User Data/Factory Reset.
9) Wipe each subcategory, but NOT the SD Card, itself.
10) Now go to Flash from SD Card, and flash the ROM
11) When it boots, let ti settle for a few minutes, before you do anything
12) Don't set your accounts or prefs or anything, just do a reboot, then once booted again, let it sit a few minutes to settle in, then run the setup program, set your accounts, preferences, etc. Once that's done, reboot again.
13) In the synergy updater, you'll need to flash the a2sd mod, which wil lreboot your phone.
14) Restore your apps
15) Go into terminal, type su > Enter >a2sd check >enter
16) Then type a2sd reswap > enter
17) Type a2sd swappy10 >enter
If you get an error BEFORE step 17, type a2sd reinstall > enter, then the phone will reboot, then come back to step 15
18) done! Enjoy!
THAT is how you get a great install of Synergy with A2SD!
If you don't see the A2SD mod in Synergy Updater, do this:
You first must configure an Addon/Theme server. Do this by going to: menu | configuration | Addon/Theme Update Settings | Manage Addon/Theme Servers | Menu | Update Featured Addon/Theme Servers" Then check for Addons and themes and there should be a list presented.
BTW, that's what I do to flash every ROM, except for the synergy updater parts, and I have very very VERY few issues, ever
Like i stated before I'm new to flashing and i want to know whats the difference?
The difference is that Amon Ra is just better than CWM. Bottom line.
Also, things can go wrong with ROM Manager. The best way is to flash things in Recovery.
Cool Thanks
ill see if i do it this way

I just followed your steps all the way to the end but when it comes time to do a2sd reswap I get "Swap on command failed: 1." Is there any way for me to check if I got a2sd working right? Thanks!

I go that too, so I did a2sd reinstall, then on reboot, I did a2sd check, showed that the a2sd is installed and the partition is present, and a lot of other things, then I did a2sd reswap, got the error, but in reading it over, I see it says that the error could be because it's already running.
So how I exactly do I pass everything to the SD card?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
in terminal
Type SU <then hit enter>
A2SD Reinstall
That will reboot your phone and move all your apps to your sd card EXT3 partition

Hello,
I have the Synergy ROM installed on my EVO.
I followed all of your steps to be create a partition to be able to transfer all apps to SD.
I also get the errors in a2sd reswap. There is an X in No a2sd.swap environment variable found. and an X in Swap On command failed: 1.
I have tried your reinstall fix and I keep checking my internal memory and the apps still occupy it (started out w/ 273 mb free before apps and now down to 268 mb free with only two apps).
I didn't think it worked the first time so I re-partitioned the card and re-did the whole procedure and am still getting the errors.
Any help would be appreciated.
If I do this ans skip the a2sd part will it allow me to have more than 102mb in memory? That's the only thing that's is keeping me from using synergy or any sense 3.0 Tom in general

[Q] Synergy RLS1 won't load

I did a back up of Synergy RLS1 then went to MIUI and decided to go back to Synergy but every time I try it gets stuck on the white HTC EVO screen. I tried going to Fresh then to Synergy but the same thing happened.
Could it be that the rom just has a lot to restore and takes a long time? The most I waited was like 15 minutes.
please halp

Mitch, how long are you waiting at the EVO boot screen? The reason I ask is because the initial bootup for Synergy can be quite long and you will appear to hang at BOTH the boot screen AND the Synergy splash screen. I suggest doing the following to successfully flash RLS-1 (non G mode):
1. If you are not using amonRA v2.3, download its PC36IMG.zip from my signature and flash it via the bootloader.
2. If you will be installing a great deal of apps & games, I highly recommend that you create an ext3 partition from within recovery. This is 'optional' and IS NOT necessary. If you choose to create an ext3 partition, follow the directions below:
a. Transfer the contents of your SD card to a computer or external device because this will erase EVERYTHING on it.
b. While in recovery (amonRA v2.3), select 'partition sdcard' and when prompted, enter zero for the SWAP, 1024 for the ext2 and the rest for FAT and when the process is finished, select 'upgrade ext2 to ext3'.
3. Go to amonRA's wipe menu and wipe everything on the list except the SD card, but if you just created the ext3 partition then include it to be wiped.
4. Download a fresh copy of Synergy RSL-1 (non G mode) using your computer and then transfer it over to your device via a USB cable and then by selecting the 'USB-MS' option. After the transfer is complete, disengage.
5. Flash the rom and then be patient during the initial boot process. Be mentally prepared to wait up to 20 minutes even though it shouldn't take that long.
6. Enjoy the rom.

Nice guide man.
Thanks Doug. I had it working at one point just using clockwork recovery, just when I flashed to a different rom I couldn't flash back for some reason. I'll try your way tomorrow ... thanks again!
Definitely props to that guide.+1
@mitch,if your using the godmode version, you MUST flash RAs recovery.it seems to be the only recovery compliant to GodMode.im running it now,i had to reflash RAs recovery, because i got that same issue a few mins ago using TWRP teamWin recovery.hope this helps.

[Q]Slightly Urgent - Samsung Galaxy S won't start after Clockwork mod?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S that has been updated to Gingerbread via Kies.
I decided i would try my hand at installing the Cyanogen mod as listed here: wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide
I followed the exact instructions and the Heimdall Suite to install speedmod + clockwork kernel in the link they provided. The phone now just sits on the first boot screen "Galaxy S GT-I9000" and doesn't move. What am i missing here?
How do i place the zip files on the root of the SD card?
Or at the very least how do i just get the phone to work again? Where did i go wrong?
Edit, if i take the battery out and put it back in i can get the phone to start in recovery mode with clockwork, but it still won't boot. it just freezes
If you plug your phone into your PC, is it seen as a storage device? If so, copy the ROM.zip you are trying to flash to your SD and then select Flash zip from SD option in Recovery.
If your PC doesn't see the phone, use an SD card reader or another device to copy the zip to the card. Depending on the ROM you might need to have the gapps zip on there too so that you can flash that at the same time as the ROM.
Edit: From the wiki:
Method via Recovery
1.Download the latest version of CyanogenMod.
Optional: Download the Google Apps for the device.
2.Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
Optional: Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the SD card also.
3.Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
4.Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and either the power button or the trackball to select.
5.Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
6.Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
7.Select Install zip from sdcard.
8.Select Choose zip from sdcard.
9.Select the CyanogenMod update.zip.
Optional: Install the Google Apps by performing steps 7 - 9 again and choosing the Google Apps update.zip.
10.Once the installation has finished, select +++++Go Back+++++ to get back to the main menu, and select the Reboot system now option. The Samsung Galaxy S should now boot into CyanogenMod.
Turns out the wiki link to clockworkmod was out of date. Which was why the phone wasn't booting. reflashed it with the latest kernal for clockworkmod and now everything runs fine!

[Q] Big problem during ROM install

Previous thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41643467#post41643467
Owing to circs I wasnt able to start repartioning and installing ROM until today. I followed the instructions to back up the SD card and then partitioned the SD card as follows:
tools/
partition sdcard/
remove all partitions and start from scratch/
chose "1024"
This completed okay.
I then did
wipe/format/
format all partitions except sdcard
install from sdcard/
choose zip from sdcard/
then selected the rom to flash it.
The Rom I chose was Android Revolution SD which said it had installed but when I rebooted from Recovery all I could get was Recovery no matter what reboot option I chose. So I went back to wipe/format and reformated all partitions except sdcard and tried the ROM suggested in previous threat to OP but it refused to install. So repeat with Oxygen and various other ROMs all of which aborted without completing.
In addition 4EXT started rebooting continuously in Recovery. When I run Recovery I get a message that says it hasn't been configured but don't know if that is a problem or not. I take the battery out and power up with sound down, which brings up Fast Boot and then I go back into Recovery and try again. So far no ROM (other than Android Revolution SD) has even pretended to install.
Any ideas? Please?
Managed to install MildWild and will take it from there.
have you tried to wipe the devlik cache ? or do a full wipe ,
