Hey guys. Before this thread was shutdown Shinzul (OP/dev) posted that one of the known issues is slow 4G wireless tethering. He posted a recommended fix which involved d/l a market app and using it to get 4G tethering working properly.
I d/l that app at the time but it was waaaaaaaay beyond my understanding as to what I would have to do to get it help with 4G tethering. Anyone, that is familiar with this issue could you please help. Please post detailed instructions on what to do (like you're teaching a 4th grader) Oh yeah, forgot the name of the app as well!
FilterProxy is the name of the app. I re-downloaded it but don't have any idea how to configure it to help me maximize 4G wireless tethering. Anyone familiar with this thing?

For some reason I'm unable to get wifi tether working on CyanogenMod 6 (Froyo) the phone keep rebooting everything I run the app... I have also tried Barnacle the phone doesn't reboot but my laptop won't find the network... Can someone point in the right direction how I can get it to work?
Thanks.

Did you check the box on barnacle to skip wpa supplement?

Nice! That worked. Thanks.
P.s. also thanks rolfd for moving thread to proper section.
I've searched the threads and I'm not sure if this question has been resolved or not, but is there any ROM or preferably a separate .apk that allows for 4G tethering to be fully supported through the Sprint HotSpot application; one that is not limited to 3G tethering such as the Sprint HotSpot app found in [ROM] Myn’s Warm TwoPointTwo (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471). I am aware that the Wireless tether for root users allows for 4G tethering, I just like the clean look of sprint interface a little bit better than this one. Also I've seem'd to have notice that some times the WirelessTether for Root users will go from 4G to 3G tether just as the Free Version of the Sprint HotSpot application, does anyone know what might be cause?
-Thanks!
you definitely have this in the wrong thread. Should be in the Q&A section my friend. But as far as your question goes, no. Just root your device and use the wireless tether app. Its soooo easy to use, just tap the screen and your done|

so the interface makes that big of a deal to you for the 5 seconds you have to look at it?
If the interface matters that much to you, then you should pony up the $30/month.
If 4G tethering is all that you care about, then you can go back to a 2.1 Eclair ROM and use the Sprint app for free. 3G tethering won't work though.
im also looking for the sprint hotspot app with working 4g. for some reason with wireless tether the 4G feels throttled
I actually have the issue where if I use Wireless Tether for Root Users my devices will just randomly stop being connected to it.
Sprint hotspot doesn't seem to have the same issue, so while in 3G only I can just use the Sprint app, but in 4G I end up using PDANet or something.

Just change the channel to 1 on WiFi Tether's settings & it'll never happen again.
WiFi Tether pre 13 is waaay better than the Sprint HotSpot app.

OK, not to hijack another thread but...apparently my search ability is TERRIBLE because I can't find the info I'm looking for and I'm SURE this has been asked a thousand times. I jsut got an Evo Shift. This is my first Droid device so please treat me as a total n00b. I'm coming over from a Palm Pre (HP Pre now).
I need to get instructions and links to be able to get my hotpot working without having to pay the extra $30 a month. Can anyone provide a total n00b that is pretty smart with good step by step instructions on how to do this? I NEED it to work on 3G and want it to work on 4G. Thanks in advance...

Wow, OK, first, this is the EVo forum, not the Evo SHift.
Second, I'm not going to tell you how to do it, because that's something you need to lean about on your own time. But all you need to do is root your phone, and download the Wireless Tether app. There are many ways to root, and all can be found in the Evo Shift subforum. I'm not sure if Unrevoked supports the Shift yet, but if it does, its the easiest method to root.
Just make sure you READ a LOT about rooting before you do it, as its easy to completely brick your phone. There are plenty of noob/faq guides for rooting on here and other sites.
Hey everybody.
I am in need of having my wireless tether run in infrastructure mode instead of adhoc.
I am running a Rooted Epic. Stock ROM/Kernel.
I don't mind flashing kernels if required.
Thank you for your help!!!
Go here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...mmary+Uploaded+ReleaseDate+Size+DownloadCount
And choose one of the wifi tether 3.0.0 versions,
I recommend backing apps and info in case something gets corrupted and you may want to get any of the custom kernals in the development section will make it work better.
This ones are experimental so use at ur own risk and always have a backup. They do infrastructure
Thanks for the advice. I downloaded the genocide 1.0 kernel. Installed it.
When I install any of the 3.0 wifi tether apps, the app starts as normal, requests super user request. I grant it. It then vibrates and reboots....
Any thoughts?
Thank you!

Hmm have you tried any custom roms...
maybe its a stock rom issue..
also did u try pre 11 ?
If you want to dive in to roms, i reccomend Bonsai first choice or Syndicate for second choice.
You may also want to make sure in the wifi settings to select your device in the profile, then select softap in the setup method and enable mss clamping as well as access control
if those settings dont work on stock rom with genocide then i reccomend getting a custom rom, i use pre11 on bonsai no problem.
Also question are u trying to start wifi tether with 4g on?
if so thats the problem and you need to start in 3g then turn on 4g after it started.
Right on! Thank you.
Yes you hit the nail on the head with having 4g on.
Disabled 4g. Connected via wireless tether 3 pre11 bamn online no issues.
Stock ROM / Genocide 1.0 Kernel.
Problem with me and the epic is I get way to involved and find my self wasting hours of time dealing with roms / updates / etc. So I have elected to stay with EC05 + root + Kernel.
Again thank you for your help, being a Network guy I understand what it takes getting good support.
Thank you.

not a problem, what so ever, just been on these forums and reading a lot since the epic came out so i know my share of stuff.
Oh and im actually going to school working on my network degree
Hello I had a related question: I just rooted my EPIC with the stock filesystem yesterday. This was mainly for tethering my Nook color and I used the 2.5.5 CWM version in the sticky for rooting.
I've tried the 3.0 pre 12 release of wifi tether. Following are the problems:
1) On enabling Wifi Tethering, I get a message Sprint "Hotspot Connected" in the notification. And if I click on hotspot connected it takes me right to the Sprint Hotspot! Now does this imply that the 3.0 version ACTUALLY uses the Sprint's hotspot service? In which case, I shall have to pay the $30? Can anyone confirm this?
2) I get awful speeds on my 4g. While my phone gives 4-5 meg download, on tethering with wifi tether, I get very low speeds like barely .5 mbps. In fact the 3G is actually faster than 4G using WiFi tether. Any idea what seems to be throttling the 4G speeds? (and yes, I disconnect 4G before tether and then put it back on).
Thanks in advance!
When it says sprint hot spot activated it activated it with out actually authenticating anything as if u look in the sprint hotspots settings u see the checkbox isn't checked to activate it that's is because the wifi tether app by passes the authentication there for it is free as for slow 4g speeds its a know issue on wifi tether and don't think we will see a fix anytime soon so stick with 3g or don't use it also I think some people have better speeds with pre 10 or 11 on 4g I wouldn't know where as I don't have 4g

Thanks for the reply.
So If I understand correctly, you are saying that the Sprint hotspot is activated but NOT authenticated. This means there will NOT be any charges i.e no $29.99 fee. Correct?
As for the 4G speeds, it's a bummer that it's slow on wifi tether. I'm not sure there is a choice of selecting any other program, as it seems that ONLY wifi tether supports infrastructure routing. That said, I'm ok with 3G speeds (better than nothing).
Thanks again for replying promptly. Much appreciated!!

not a problem bro and yes no charges as it is bypassing the authentication been using it for awhile and no fees
I'm using the viper rom, and I had the same problem of the wifi forcing closing but it seems to work when I go from wifi to hotspot ( I did for testing pruposes, I need it for work Ideally) but when I'm at work and on a 3g connection even 1x (its an old building) it will feeze crash then reboot, but ill try it again.
Does 4g have to be off for hotspotting to work or just not be connected?
And I work at radioshack. I get an employee discount, and when I was having some problems with an unrelated issue, so I called employee line help and hinted about illegally hotspoting, they said the could detect that and charge me. Should I be worried because I'm on an empolyee line? Or is their threat BS?
Thanks for helping a noob.

I wouldn't worry about the threat I've been tether since it first came out and I haven't got any warnings bills or anything u should be fine
As for the force closing, what pre version are u using I'm able to tether 1x and 3g on bonsai Tom on pre 11 and this one has been the mist stable for me.
Also try clearing wifi tether data in settings/manage applications/all/wifi tether/clear data
Or uninstall it and reinstall it
Also try other versions maybe u will have better luck with another version.

To those not happy with their 4g tethering speeds, I wonder if possibly the root of the cause has something to do with the fact that wifi and 4g will not both enable at the same time (maybe they share some kind of a channel, the same way some devices share irqs, internal laptop devices may share a usb root hub).
In any event, in my experience the wired tether app is MUCH faster on 4G. I want to say I've gotten somewhere between 8-11mbps over USB. Hope this helps someone.
I'm not a developer and am struggling to learn about making the most out of my device. I flashed FI03 yesterday and wonder if (and how) I can use [MOD][Deodex][Odex][FI03]Hotspot Mod. I have the WiFi Tether app, but my connect speeds are pretty slow. Thanks!

No problem at all. Enjoy.
I installed Agat recovery and the Odexed Hotspot mod. It works, but my speeds are terrible (.5Mbps). Speedtest on my E4GT is about 9Mbps. Am I doing something wrong?
By the way, I installed the Deodexed Hotspot mod and got stuck at the Sprint 4G splash screen.
I've been searching for an answer but haven't found anthing. It sounds like slow tethering speeds is somewhat random and doesn't affect a lot of people. In fact, I don't tether often, so it's not a huge issue for me. I would like to be able to tether at 4G speeds, so if someone can help me diagnose this, I'd really appreciate it!
Ok so I've been digging for an answer for the past few days. With the recent fcc lawsuit against verizon on charging for tethering its been hard filtering through all those posts. I currently have barnical installed and working but this doesn't work with consoles like a 3ds due to it operating in ad-hoc. I've been reading there's ways to wifi tether with an infrastructure network but no one is giving an answer. Im with verizon so if I use the built-in in tethering feature I get redirected to the verizon page. Just to let you know I currently have the cola rom installed. Yes I know verizon can tell that I'm tethering but I've done this in the past with no issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
