[Q] Avoid Desire to restore programs after reset - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello friends.
I'm getting pretty annoyed by my DHD. Everytime I reset the phone to factory defaults it starts to reinstall all the programs that was installed prior to the reset. Is there a way to avoid this?

How often do you reset to default?

Well once a month. Especially when my youngest daughter have had put her fingers on it

Go to settings ---> privacy and uncheck backup my settings....this would do it! Enjoy!

I had the same issue when flashing a new Rom. Now I disable the option sphuyal pointed out, but I skip adding my Google account until I have disabled the restore option.

The rule for our son is that he does not touch Mummy and Daddy's phone. He has his own phone, which Mummy and Daddy are not allowed to play with.
This might solve your problems... depends how old your daughter is

I know, but she's so sweet and I can't help lending it to her. She loves to play Angry Birds and just to hear her laughs is resetting worth once awhile.
Thanx for all your advices. This works like a charm.

Factory reset using hardware
Sorry to bring up this post, but I believe this will help a lot of people
1. There are two types of factory reset inthe HTC Desire (or Desire HD)
The software is via the settings (I realised this method still keep rouge applications or applications with virus/adware.
The hardware method is by removing and inserting the battery and holding down the volume down button as you press the power button.
You should see a white screen with three Android figure.
Using volume down scroll to reset. This is the ultimate reset
2. I was downloading some games from Android market and I got an adware "virus" that spam my other applications. It refuses to uninstall even I have uninstalled the other applications. So be careful with what you download.
3. I am AMAZED my HTC desire HD can actually sync my calendar, sms and phone list after that! I love the HTC desire HD.

Setting Up for a Hard reset: Questions. Plz help

Hello all,
I'm new to ANdroid coming from a Nokia n900 and I have a couple Questions before I Hard reset my phone. First of all, before ppl start to ask, I'm Hard resetting my Evo 4g because after messing around with it and installing/Uninstalling about 100 apps it's starting to bug out on me (freezes, slows down, force quit lots of apps). So I decided to give it a Hard reset.
I just wanted to know a couple things first:
-Is the Best way to completely Hard reset back to sprint stock rom is to use the "Hold Volume down Key at reboot" method??
-Do I have to back up my app brought from Android market and if so how?
-Will my Purchased Gameloft (from gameloft web store) Games still install/worked after I hard reset? Any Device not recognize problems to be expected?
-How do I back up my saved game files for games like NOVA, Zenonia, HomeRun Battle, and Raging Thunder 2? Where are they stored?
-The contact on my phone are more updated then the ones on Google. How do I export these out to my google/gmail account?
-Is there any way to Save/export my text messages?
-Anything thing else I might need to backup I didn't mention?
I know its a lot, but then again this is a big community. Hopefully a couple of you guys can answer a couple and recommend the best way to do these things.
Experience is what I'm lacking here.
Thanks
60 Views and no replies... really?
Anyone have anything?
It would be greatly appreciated.
I may be able to answer some questions, though I am relatively new to Android OS as well.
1. Yes, the best way to hard reset your phone to a stock ROM is to reboot with the DN Vol button.
2. Not sure
3. Not a clue
4. Each app likely has it's own method of storage, you will have to poke around the app or email the developer
5. If you sync your contacts/email/calendar via a Google account, then the two should be identical. If they are not, something is wrong with your synching. Check the synch frequency on your EVO, and ensure your contacts are synching with the right acount, in case you have more than one on your EVO.
6. Yes, there are plenty of apps for that, though I myself don't use them. Search in the marketplace, or poke around these forums.
7. Backup any photos, videos, etc. to you SD card.
If your phone is running slow, you might want to check to see how many apps are running simultaneously. DL a good task manager/killer, like Advanced Task Killer.

Thanks khov07.
I have Task killer running Aggressively on Auto Kill, but that's not the problem. I'm having to force quit a ton of apps and my browser keeps crashing. And even after clearing all app caches my phone overall is still running sluggish. I'm guessing one of my many apps might have done something.
I just synced all my contacts with HTC sync and backed up my SMS with a app from the market.
Also I just emailed all the developers for the games Im trying to save, thanks for the tip.
I'm still trying to figure out question #2 & 3.
-Do I have to back up my app brought from Android market and if so how?
If you're asking if you have to repurchase them, the answer is no. Your purchased apps are tied to your email. You'll be able to reinstall them.
-Will my Purchased Gameloft (from gameloft web store) Games still install/worked after I hard reset? Any Device not recognize problems to be expected?
I would ask gameloft that. I don't have any of their games

Great its rebooting now!
OK...I'm gonna having hard reset this thing tonight with out backing up my save game files
My evo is now randomly just rebooting. When press call on the phone app or start my default browser it sometimes just reboots.
This sucks. Any one else having these problem??
What rom were you using?
stock sprint rom
It could be one of your apps causing it to reboot.
Use adb to grab a log to see what could be causing it.
adb logcat V > c:\*whatever_folder*\log.txt

Here's a good read You're gonna wanna how to use adb if you wanna root and flash other roms.
random reboots, on androidforums.com it has been determined that the random rebooting issue when using the stock rom is caused by unchecking the following option...
from a home screen press the following: menu button --> settings --> wireless & networks --> mobile network
watch out for that one...

Hard reset done after upgraded to 2.2, found two surprises!

Just done a hard reset after I had upgraded to 2.2 a few weeks back and discovered that nothing is backed up anymore!! Now whilst this has been spoken about on a few threads already, I did find a few things new that was a nice bonus.
1) News sync appears in the accounts & sync options. Now I can truly disable the news app thats pre installed in the rom.
2) Finally the location based sense weather works!!! I could never get my local area to display any weather, this has now been fixed but only after hard resetting! It never worked on 2.1 or 2.2 before.
Will let you know if I find anything else. Does make you wonder what else had been fixed but only after a HR.
Does compass work correctly?
News sync appears, but does it sync? When I tap on it nothing happens, no green icon appears on Accounts & Sync
Yes it does sync if you select it. I could never add news sync before, it was always as option but now it appears in the selected list, like googlemail and stocks. To be honest I don't use it and was never able to turn it off, it would always appear running in the services list but now I can turn it off and it's not running in the services list.

Didn't know therenwas a problem with the compass, but therm again I never used it. What was wrong with it and I will check.
Hey,
The current location weather also never worked on my desire, and after upgrading to froyo a couple of weeks ago I looked to see if it had been fixed but it still didn't work.
However, after reading this thread, I decided to check again and now it works for some reason! I haven't done a hard reset so I dont know why it has started to work but I am happy that it has!

Maybe a dumb question but what do you guys mean with hard reset? Is that simply just to make a reset to back to the factory settings? Anything special?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
ok, so it looks like they changed something their end and has nothing to do with resetting (re weather location). Yes hard reset = Restore to factory (im an old old win mo user so still call it hard reset.

Thanks for reporting, wouldn't be surprised if HTC didn't import this for us....
Just did it laboriously in order to get the news sync to work. Real pain to have to re-install all the apps, put them on the homescreens, sign in to accounts again, etc. But done and it does work.
Hi guys..
I just buy a Desire 2 weeks ago and upgraded from official 2.1 to official 2.2. My question is: If I make a hard reset ( factory reset ) my Desire will go back to 2.1 or will remain to 2.2?? Maybe is a silly question, but I am a very new guy on Android forum. Thank you in advance.
Will stay with 2.2.

[Q] Secondhand phone & phone tracking

Hi all,
I just bought a DHD secondhand and the previous owner seems to be tracking me. A joke maybe, maybe not. In any case, is there a way to stop him from keeping tabs on where I shop and more importantly, live. I've done a hard reset, will that do the trick?

i dont know what application he is using to track you, but if its installed in /system a hard reset wont remove it.. your best bet is to root and install a custom recovery, you can them format the /system partiton, after that you are free to install a stock or custom rom of your choosing

Are you sure your being tracked? (paranoia?)
But if you want to be sure then formatting fully and reinstalling a ROM is the way to go. Over in the Development Section you'll find all the information/guides/apps/ROMS you need.
May i ask how do you know that he is tracking you?
Anyways, programs like Theft Aware survive factory resets and so on. They can also activate gps without the symbol in the notification bar and the previous owner is able to remote control your device with sms commands and you wouldn't notice it because the pogram hides it. He can also request your exact position, even you have a new sim card in your phone.
Try to go to the settings->applications and look for some apps with names you haven't installed. Can be something like 'Beatbox Machine' or even something with HTC in its name.

Don't think Htcsense.com would work because the email address and password for the account have to be put in the phone.

It might survive a full wipe, but what about flashing a new RUU?
Flashing a RUU will get rid of all tracking software.

Windows Phone 7.5 Menu

I updated my HTC HD7 using force trick but the menu list of my phone is not in alphabetical order like Microsoft showed in videos. Search button is present but those A to Z alphabets are not there. Performed hard reset but still nothing
You have to have at least 40? 50? apps installed to have it shown. On small number of apps there is no point in having the jumplist.
Thanks for the info sir

This isn't really the thread for it, but being 'jailbroken' won't make a difference.
If the update is ready for your phone, the force trick might work but you have to be very precise with the timing of cutting the internet connection - it depends entirely on how quick your internet connection is and how quick Zune does the checks.

No my phone is not cracked or jailbroken. I got a replacement phone (Brand new) From HTC. I installed NODO via zune and then mango with force DC trick.

[Q] Extra stupid - restore OEM software

Noob with extra stupidity, new HTV One V.
hardware v.0002
software v. 1.08.652.11710RD
android 4.0.3
prl 61009
Uninstalled a number of programs last night, including, apparently the program the runs "Media Link HD"
Backup, did I back anything up> No, so I'm *extra* stupid.
Went to Netflix today, nope. Tried to install Netflix App.. nope.
Media Link HD menu in phone settings - just stalls and finally says there are no HD devices.
SO... Where might I find a full backup of all the OEM software on this phone, so I can start fresh?
,,,and if it exists, please point me to where I can find methods for recovering OEM software to the phone.
TIA
Rick
Simply factory restore your phone all apps will be back.....

Factory reset won't do a job well done. It won't restore the apps, only wipe Data of them making it seem new.
You'll need the RUU, seeing as you removed a lot of the original apps.

Thanks.... It only took me a half hour of searching & reading posts, to figure out that Factory Reset was not a quick & easy to be found on this site.
Then I found the Users manual that Virgin never sent me, took only another 5 minutes.
Then I found the 3-line answer that could be shortened to: "Settings - Storage - Factory data reset - Reset Phone - Erase"
1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap settings
2. Tap Storage > Factory data reset.
3. Tap Reset phone, and then tap Erase everything.
Thanks big guy for the tip,
Next time think of the Karma you're generating, and spend an extra 5 whole seconds to say LOOK IN USER MANUAL.

Thank you, but, I did not mention, since I didn't know it mattered - my One V uses CDMA.
The only page I saw with RUU had none for the Virgin Mobile CDMA.
If such exists, please, point me to where.
BTW, factory reset worked - more or less.
Thanks again
