Lagfix? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any such thing as a lagfix for evo?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I was unaware that the EVO needed a lag fix.

There is the FPS fix?

Yeah evo isn't much laggy, but I was curious.. Is fps from the market like ryanzas or a flashable zip?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

The FPS fix was implemented months ago and is global across all ROMs/kernels, including stock.

As metal head mentioned that hasn't been an issue for a long long time, since eclair almost. All that was needed was for the kernel to be tweaked and HTC implemented it in the stock kernel.

Awesome info guys... Came from a galaxy s... Now I'm happier I made the move....

I came from tmo and a vibrant, this phone is way better, I was so sick of needing a lag fix. The only thing I miss is the 16gb internal storage. I think htc is the only choice for me

[Question] Which Rom?

Just bought my evo 4G and I can't stand HTC sense so what would be the best Rom to put on it, personal preference of course. Also it doesn't have service yet and I wanna flash it with boost mobile does anyone know how to do that? I'm a pretty experienced flasher so I'm not worried.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I highly recommend miui (not sense) and myn's else 5( modded sense). I can't comment on flashing to boost.
Sent from my EVO using the XDA app.
No idea on boost but I like mik froyo 4.4 for my rom.
What would be q good gingerbread rom
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Personally I think cm7 nightlies are the way to go if you're willing to rough it a little and use a ROM that's in the works. However what works for me may not work for you... I'd go to Dev and try out a few. It doesn't take long to flash a rom and after a couple hours you should be able to know if it'll work for you on a longer term.
yea I'm not a noob at this at all I use the night lies on my mytouch 4g I'm just new to the evo and wanted to get a feel of what the community thought

New to the EVO. Tips

Just got the EVO. Had a hero rooted with cm7. Wanna know the simplest way to root this phone. My knowledge of rooting is quite good, so I know what I'm doing. Also, what're the best overall sense and aosp roms that just work. Is miui a good rom? kernels with good speed and battery? One more thing.. my data speed is like half as fast as it was on my rooted cm7 hero, is there a way to fix that?

[Q]Should this gs2 be smooth like my old Vibrant?

I realize the cpu is not as fast as samsungs...but shouldnt the dual core run atleast as smooth as single core vibrant? My gs2 arrived today buy seems abit choppy compared to my Vibrant.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Nope but more smoother than your vibrant.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
i think the OP is up in smokes
this phone is faster that any of the old Hummingbird based phones (i9000, vibrant, Nexus S, captivate, etc)
just remove all the Tmo crapware then it'll be butter smooth
It can be a bit choppy or of the box but I found it good
Flash juggernaut and bullet kernel if you would like to get the most out of your phone right note. It Is a very smooth experience
Bullet really solved most of the.choppiness for me atleast
You will not be disappointed
That is my opinion but many will call it fact
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It does get way smoother when debloated, but some of the choppiness won't quite go away. I think there's something going on in the drivers or something.

The dual core processor in our GS2 is definitely faster and more efficient than the Vibrant's Hummingbird processor. I'm surprised that you said the Vibrant feels faster and smoother than our phone. Is the Vibrant rooted? A stock Vibrant can never feel no where near as fast and smooth as this phone especially with the stock RFS file system Samsung used to use back then on the first set of Galaxy S devices.
The issue with our device is the lack of proper optimization with the software for our processor so you'll notice occasional lag bit nothing as bad as RFS.

OuncE718 that's an excellent point
compare apple to apple, and not apple to pears
the stock Galaxy S family is slow as molasses, but once rooted and with a good polished custom ROM it's as fast as a SGS2
the SGS2-T989 stock is way faster than anything i've ever seen before coming out of the box from the manufacturer
i was not happy with the out of the box experience of i9000, vibrant, captiave, Nexus S
It has its moments when stock. But its much faster than both my vibrant and g2x IMHO.

Scrolling pages...flipping threw screens...all smoother on my vibrant....not looking for a debate was just wondering if its normal...my vibrant was rooted but was running stock rom before i sold it.

The launcher you use makes a difference too. I'm using QQ launcher. Got tired of touchwiz dropped it like a bad habit.
With QQ, I never have any slowdown...
I'm rooted on the stock ROM by the way but had the phone like this unrooted also with no problems
i'm using Go Launcher EX, with all the effects and animations ON, same with the stock Android, enabled all the Animations and special effects, on top of that install Spare Parts to enable the hidden special effects
all running butter smooth
i did read few people saying they disabled animation to not have those micro lags, but never seen or noticed one yet

I give the Nexus S its props, it wasn't sluggish IMO. The browser was a bit sluggish. Hands down one of my favorite phones rooted was the myTouch 4g. Omg that phone was a beast on Faux rom and kernel. I loved it!

Try flashing the Alien rom over in the skyrocket forum. It smoothed out my phone considerably. Still not perfect, but its much better.

Team Whiskey make awesome ROMs. Apparently they will be releasing custom ROMs for our Sgs2's. When that happens you will like your Sgs2 better. Patience my friend.

It would be a shame. I hate gingerbread on the Epic
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Hahaha seriously gingerbread is just so much better the leaks suck but the official is beautiful. Overclocking to 1.4 on froyo was burning my hands OC on GB is cold as ice....... there's just so much more stability on gingerbread if you know what your doing.

Yeah I don't understand either. Gingerbread is like 10 times faster with more memory free than Froyo was on my phone but to each their own I guess.

So you are saying I can safely run GB as a daily driver with no problems in wifi, 4g, gps, or any of the other odd quirks here and there? Or is it not quite there yet?
I am waiting in the wings for a solid stock like build with Sprint TV which actually is the only Sprint app that I would like to work and keep.
I am hoping to have a good GB daily driver!

I have been running GB since EF02 and never had any wifi or 4G issues and always was able to run Sprint TV. GPS was reduced to less satellite locks to conserve battery. The great Devs here ported the Fascinate library files to give us full locks again. I recommend Legendary 2.1 which has the GPS fixed library and the patch for key skips as well as a bunch of other goodies.

it was sooo damn close to being released too. Its probably the Official GB that killed the release. Apparently its still being worked on.

What you are seeing is a lot more apps loading themselves into memory whenever the heck they want to. I froze all the recent extras that I don't use like Google Talk, Google +, Maps, and a few others. Memory Booster Lite helped me see all the apps loading into memory to freeze or uninstall. I have no memory leaks, kill those apps in MBL task killer and I usually have 180MB free.

[Q] Why are people still using Gingerbread roms?

I'm... really confused. Someone please enlighten me.
Because the EVO was made for GB ROMS. The hardware is compatible with GB.
You can load a custom ICS or JB ROM from the many available here but I don't think they have HWA. They are also not 4G compatible and if you have good 4G in your area then it does not make any sense as to why you would go with a non 4G ROM. Also, FFC and a bunch of other stuff does not work with ICS or GB. The processing power of the EVO is also a little weak for the animations of ICS or JB.
^ This.
Perhaps if HTC had ever released the source code for the drivers for things like 4G and the FFC, ICS and JB ROM's would be more popular and more people would use them. As it stands now, Gingerbread doesn't have any of the above issues-it just works, plain and simple.
Sent using my HTC EVO 4G and a magic wand
Because pretty much everything works. No lag and like HD2FORNICK said, this phone, by hardware, is designed for GB

Ics and JB don't have hard ware acceleration?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
ICS and JB certainly do. But not for this phone. Drivers have to be compiled to specific hardware. To do that, the ROM maker will either need to build the driver from scratch, or have the source code and make modifications. HTC never released the source code for the drivers, so no hw accel for ICS and JB. You cant use the same drivers across two different OSes, even for the same harware. Oh well...

I'm not a fan of GB ROMs but I do like sense. I dont mind the 4g part since I don't have it in my area. Still I keep switching between GB,ICS and JB. I have had good experience with the ICS ROMs I tried. JB ROMs is like ICS at the beginning with laggs and things not working but it gets better as time passes.

Cuz gb just plain works.
No doubt, ice and jb are great, but just not functional enough for me. Like vid recording is choppy, which unfortunately is a deal breaker
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
While all the ICS/JB roms are awesome, I came from the EVO shift to the EVO 4g for the bigger screen, and front camera. With the front camera broken on ICS and up, it is unfortunately a deal breaker. That is why I use gingerbread.

Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Decks Reloaded is amazing. It just flies and nothing ever FCs.
Even though I live in an area with great Wimax coverage, I never use it. It kills my battery so quickly. That's why I'm trying out an ICS ROM right now and I've also been trying out some JB ROMS. Had to drop JB because Bluetooth wouldn't work right in any of the ROMS I used.
Long story short, if it wasn't for the advanced notifications and status bar in ICS, I wouldn't ever use anything other than Decks Reloaded on my Evo 4g. Try it. It's so damn smooth.
