[18.Feb.2011][ADB+CWR][Arne's Extended Kernel fixed] - HD2 Android NAND Development

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948181 - original thread.
Advice from ask107: "NOTE YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE BATTERY THEN REINSERT IT AGAIN AFTER THE FIRST FLASH TO DETECT THE TRUE READINGS"
givis22 and me fix 60-80mA battery drain in arne182 kernel.
As arne182 already written:
"This is still in Beta and requires some testing, I am not responsible if your battery breaks. But I am confident enough that I am working with this on my own device."
rafpigna 1.7 only.
ADB install (install_kernel.bat): http://rapidshare.com/#!download|723l35|448478358|ADB_Installing.zip|2836
CWM install (zip): http://rapidshare.com/#!download|75tl2|448478526|rafpigna_v3.0.zip|5312
IMPORTANT: This kernel is usual rafpigna 1.7 + arne182's code (http://gitorious.org/linux-on-wince...mmit/087df99dcfba937520d3f6dfa078e68cdb627862) compiled right way for daily use, therefore no 60mA drain after call. I wrote about hight drain after call in original theme, but not received any response. I post this files as is with link to original theme, for users who need normal implementation right now.
I spread it as is...
Checked ROM's:
CoreDroid 1.2
CoreDroid 1.3
CleanDroid 1.15-1.40, 2-2.02
MarkinuX HD Extra Clean V1.71
HyperDroidGBXv5
Thanks: arne182, givis22

Tested on :Markinux 1.7.1 every thing Is working NO HIGH DRAIN even WITH wireless,NOTE YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE BATTERY THEN REINSERT IT AGAIN AFTER THE FIRST FLASH TO DETECT THE TRUE READINGS
tested on :Moto -man my touch 4g 3.2 every thing is working except data ,H icon has appeared but no data (CANT SURF WEB,MARKET) THROUGH 3G,YOU CAN SURF WITH WIFI
Thanks: arne182, Delphin ,givis22

Can't overclock
I can't overclock it,is that normal?(imilka vision 4.1)

neither do i but quadrant report 2200 plus not bad i guess imilka4.1

sorry to say Delphin it didnt work.after couple of hour using battery % went down to 37 then i shutdown the mobile and take it off put it back again after restarted battery % went 74 .
still got problem i think.

after testing it for about 12 hours 3g working always regular daily use (surfing +music+games) it went to 60 not bad at all
the rom is Markinux 1.7.1
battery temp :32 to 40 max
battery indicator is spare parts

why open a new thread for just a fix?
was not better to share the fix with arne ?
anyway, to comply with GPL you have to share your source and any modification you made to fix it.

it is a very good kernel . Thanks !!

Please share your source. Your thread can be taken down if you are not sharing the source.
Thanks.

I'll give it a go

Yes thats normal, same here with CM 2.3.3 Typhoon
quadrant score (scaling: performance): 1249

3 days on Mariknux 1.71 ROM with your kernel and every thing is awesome
IS THERE ANY WAY TO MAKE THIS KERNEL WORKS WITH MOTO-MAN MY TOUCH 4G ROM, THE NO 3G OR DATA ISSUE AFTER FLASHING THIS KERNEL ?

Run your Hero at 660mhz

Beta testing of a new kernel that allows over clocking up to 660mhz. I have no time to do a lot of testing. So far MCR rom 3.2 is stable and fast with it. So I am calling for testers. The kernels are using ramzswap.
Download
Note: It will not work on 2.x rom as it is a 2.6.27 kernel.
This is great news. I would try it, but I have a CDMA Hero.
I think this also works for 2.1 ROM; I'm using Vanillain 1.0 and I went from 145 CPU benchmark to 154...
how to apply?
and does setcpu support this setting yet?
thanks for the work
1) Download the SetCPU in the link
2) Drag the SetCPU file into your SD card
3) Open and install using any file manager (I use Astro)
4) Download the setcpu.txt file into your SD card (not into a folder)
5) Open SetCPU and press Menu > Device Selection > Scroll all the way down to "Custom Frequency Config" (last on the list)
6) Then set up the frequency as you desire
is this based on teknologist's kernel? this shall be included in MCR once stable enough.
Is root needed?
Yes you need root for this to work, and just on a side notice using the overclock widget seems to work to.
worked on my hero i guess.. but how stupid m i, i tried edit the txt file and push into my nexus and try the settings... damm.. f*ck, it did not work at all... damm...
doesn't do anything for me according to linpack. Same amount of Mflops/s
edit: and screen went black and never got out of it.... :S
660 MHz ?? Bye bye batery...
Myriad Group is developing a new virtual machine for android that increases 3x the speed of the system running aplications, with the same hardware, and a optimized use of the batery and will allow richer grafics... The name of the project is Dalvik turbo and it will be show on the Mobile World Congress of Barcelona...
You can read it here: www(dot)mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=8684
I hope we can use it to our Hero's ...
Dalvik Turbo looks extremely promising. If 3x performance can actually be achieved, then we have to ask Google... what were you thinking with Dalvik's original design?
Please, read this:

BogoMips is not the clock!
It's the efficiency of running a bootonly calibration loop.
This doesn't mean that Lox_Dev work isn't a great thing, though.
so in a nutshell, whith this mod does hero run faster or not?

I don't think so.
Just because your car shows 200mph in the speedometer doesn't mean it can go that fast.
Really, read here: http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=302182&view=findpost&p=1185063

[KERNEL] [09 MAR 2011] --Kernel GL_Core v11-- 1190 / uv EXT2/3/4 CIFS EB -magldr+cLK-

Presenting, my HD2 NAND Android kernel!
Summary
To provide, stable, fast and up to date kernels for our HD2s running either DFT or CWM nand android
Features
- 1190, 1190 Undervolt auto scaling versions available. listed is kernel MAX speed, it will scale to anything less depending on demand and ROM installed. Default max seepd is 998 without the use of an overclocking app
- Faster IO tweak taken from hastarins kernel tree
- Latest YAFFS driver
- Always built from latest source tree
- Very responsive kernel configuration
- Battery efficient
- Supports EXT 2 / 3 / 4, depending our your chosen ROM
- RMNET / PPP both supported, depending on your chosen ROM
- Bluetooth, WiFi, LED notifications all working correctly
- Smartass (default), Interactive and all standard CPU governors supported
- CIFS supported
- MAX defualt speed is 998, use setCPU or similar to overclock if you so wish
- cLK supported
- Automatic Extended Battery Support
Choosing your kernel
1190Mhz
This should work perfectly on nearly every HD2. It offers good speed at a slight cost to battery life. It will, depending on how your chosen ROM implements it, scale anywhere between 245-1190 Mhz depending on load
1190Mhz Undervolt
Same performance as 1190Mhz above, but with lower CPU voltage settings. It will work perfectly on most phones, but not all. If you experience FCs or random reboots then chose one of the aforementioned versions. This kernel offers significant battery life improvements if it works for you.
About the source and GPL compliance
The kernel is built direct from main GIT. You can access the commit logs and sources here on gitorious
The changes and modifications as mentioned in the changelog, and my build .config are all in my separate patch file, which you can download here
Download
All the kernels are supplied on one zip package. Contained within the package are the 2 kernel zImages and the associated modules. Chefs and advanced users will know what to do with these.

First! This is in a kleandroid 2.55?
yes....and no
its just been recompiled, and i added pure 998mhz for people who have phones that cant take the faster speeds!
Awesome! This is the best kernel, have been using it for like three days and it gives me the best battery life and performance. I loved it. I'll pack this one into cwm zip when I get home and flash it.
Edit: how much does battery life actually improve with the uv one? Now I'm torn between the uv and oc to 1.5ghz. Battery or performance?
Sent from my HD2 running Android on NAND
Can anyone test this on sergio's coredroid 1.4 and post results? I would but dont have my computer for a couple days.
g.lewarne
Please add 998Mhz kernel to next update CleanDroid!

you might get maybe possible 15% more battery time out of the UV kernel. in ideal circumstances in a perfect world of course

Not yet, it is still underway.
I made some cwm zips, before going to sleep. I wasn't able to test them because it's late, but they should work. If g.lewarne wants to post them in the OP, i have no problem. Inside the zip, after you download, there are 4 more zips, one for 998, 1190, 1536(this one doesn't work for me) and 1190 UV. Just flash the one you like and enjoy!

1190Mhz Undervolt its working here.
1536 does not work for ne! Causes random reboot on boot. If you want to test it, do so, but i'm pretty sure it's a problem with the kernel, not with the zip, because the one g.lewarne uses on his rom had 1536 and caused random reboots too, cant be a coincidence . Also, youre welcome!
I flashed the 1190 to test, now off to flash the UV one!

It works, but not the 1536 one, or at least not for me.
Sent from my HD2 running Android on NAND
Might I just point out that in real world situations the 1190 kernels are just as fast. 1536 is really just a gimmick but some people want it so there you to. Myself, I run my own personal 1305
Sorry for spamming this thread, but I must ask, is uv dangerous? If so, what are some steps I have to follow to prevent my phone from getting fu'd? Like for example,i know that for the 1536, we shouldn't have it always o/c'd to the 1.5ghz.

great job Marc1706!
can somebody test this on a Sense3.0/3.5 ROM without the haldric glitches fix? thx.
Hi
is there a chance to boot this kernel on a SD Build?
I tried it but it stops on "Jump to Kernel"
Thanks
please don't stop!!! big thanks!!!
The greatest news, thank you!
Running fine on Typhoon CM7!
The only problem I get is 17mA without wi-fi..and even in Airplane mode.
Could not get it to boot on the new DHD 3.06 v1.3 from DUNG. Replaced the initrd.gz file, resigned but stuck at go go go. Will keep fiddling.
What a great day, hopefully this will prepare us for the ice cream sandwich in the near future, downloading now
Well, I know it clearly states CM but gave it a shot anyways. I deleted the initrd and installed it on daekins rom and no luck, stuck at gogogo. I'm guessing something in the initrd from his rom needs updating, better luck next time I guess.
Keep up the great work.

[ROM]CyanogenMod 10 Unofficial[4.1.1][Team Legacy]

Code:
This is still alpha version you are flashing this on your own responsibility
Dont blame me if your phone turns into a termonuclear bomb and explode
into a big mushroomcloud that destroys the whole town
Dont blame me if you turn into hulk by using this ROM.
Dont blame me if your alarm app fails and you get fired or you miss
your wedding
You chose to make these modifications, nobody made you do it.
I will update this ROM every 4 to 7 days from Shelnutt2's nightlys. If there is a major fix in a nightly then i will not wait 4 days i'll update emediatly. If you find a bug that you know how to fix then feel free to write here or if you have time make a patch, this is a big project to be maintained by 2 guys. If there is a dev here on Hero GSM forums that is willing to help then help
Features:
---JELLYBEAN
---Google Now
---Ported from Shelnutt2's HeroC nightly's
---Using Las Venturas 1.2 kernel by riemer
Problems:
---Slow
---Camera
---Audio besides speaker, very close to full fix.
---Bluetooth (almost fixed)
---Hardware Acceleration (not likely)
How to install:
---Download the rom and put it on your SD card
---Reboot to clockworkmod
---Wipe data
---Go to advanced tab/Wipe dalvik cache
---Flash the ROM
---Reboot and say hello to your new ROM
---Be patient, first boot takes about 10-15 minutes
Tips:
1. ROM is default OC'd to 633 MHz to increase speed, if you have any issues with that speed (graphical glitches or something) reduce it.
2. Go to developer options and enable force GPU rendering
3. If you are a developer go to developer options, root access and enable root to ADB and apps
4. Go to performance settings > memory managment > zRam > 18 or 26%
5. Go to performance settings > Processor > CPU governor > ONDEMAND or PERFORMANCE
6. Go to performance settings > memory managment > allow purging of assets
7. To bypass welcome screen tap all the corners in a clockwise motion, starting with the top-left
8. Install LauncherPro it will give you a bit more speed but it will be ugiler. You pick will you install it or no

Be carefull : CPU natively OC'd @710 MHz won't boot on any device. You should reduce it @633 to make it bootable by anyone...
No problem, i placed that in kernel because it booted for me, new build is ETA 5-6 hours from now. Camera should work

If you have time, could you send me a PM with the files you have to change when you port from CDMA to GSM. I tried but it didn't worked when I just changed kernels.
Thanks in advance
Keep up the good work!
Installed and booted. But Wifi doesn't seem to work?
You have to fill in your gmail-credentials (at first boot) but it can't verify since wifi isn't working. Does this mean you can only boot CM10 when you have got 3G?
Wi-Fi is a small bug in this ROM, fixed in new version, uploading now ... ETA 10 minutes

Flash the las venturas 1.2 kernel, wifi should then work.
But that will probably break usb mass storage and a couple of other kernel related fixes

It wont, I told you before, it changes the kernel, the ramdisk is totally different
New build is up

[7 FEB 2013][KERNEL 2.6.32][CM10]New kernel for use with extended battery

Hi all,
I created a kernel for use with unknown extended batteries.
I only used a kernel with this modifications for about 24 hours, so it is still alpha.
I used it myself only on the JellyTime HD2 V.2 DataOnExt version, but the kernel is much like the latest tytung version, and you should be able to use it with any ROM that uses the tytung kernel
It is based on the https://github.com/cmhtcleo/android_kernel_cmhtcleo/tree/jellybean, and I changed the code, so I was able to force a battery capacity by an external parameter.
The current ZIP file uses an aroma installer, which will ask you for the battery capacity, possible values are normal, 1700, 2000, 2300 and 2600 mAh. It modifies the kernel commandline.
This will only work when you use a cLK bootloader (this is a issue of the used installer script, not of the kernel)
When you are not using the cLK bootloader, you can still use this kernel, but you have to change a kernel parameter after each boot (It should be possible from rc files) using a script that says (as root):
Code:
echo 2300 > /sys/module/ds2746_param/parameters/full_charge
After you installed this kernel, using a value for battery different from 'normal' please do the following steps:
Initialize the battery from recovery.
Discharge the battery until below 5% (I used a program fast discharge, from the market)
Charge the battery.
Turn off your phone, remove battery and reinsert battery
Turn on your phone, and start using it.
Now your reading should be more or less ok.
After 3 charge/discharge cycles, it should be optimal calibrated.
when you want to report any issue, please give the following information:
What kernel did you use previous?
From a terminal (or adb shell), logged in as root, give the result of the following commands:
Code:
cat /proc/cmdline
cat /sys/module/ds2746_param/parameters/full_charge
cat /sys/devices/platform/htc_battery/power_supply/battery/batt_attr_ext
known problems:
*modifies only kernel commandline options using cLK.
*Installer has only fixed values
*I do not expect that you can use this installer to use on SD based bootloader (The kernel however will work)
*???
todo:
Adapt the installer script to be able to use it with other bootloaders
Make it usable for CM10.1
The source code of this kernel is available at:
https://github.com/de-wolff/android_kernel_cmhtcleo in the branche jellybean.
Progress update
I use this kernel now for about 40 hours.
I did a fast discharge two times, and charged it again two times.
Now it is 13 hours running on the battery, and it says it has still 90% power available. In the past, it was running in 18 hours to 15% and stayed at that level for several days.
Until now, I did not find anything not working
wifi ok,
3G data ok,
phone ok,
sms ok,
sound (spotify) ok,
nice idea....I will backort it to my kernel if it proves stable

In the first post is a link to the total kernel sources, that I placed on github.
If you like, you can do anything you like with it.
However, I there is a good change, I will make more modifications to this kernel in the future, so if you are interested in a particular feature, read the comment with the commits.
Kernel for jelley bean 4.2
your kernel is great.
but mobiel data connection is a little bit unstable and not so fast.
this rom has the most stable and fastest mobile-Connection, look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098722
can you adjust your kernel in order to improve mobile data stability and mobile data speed like the in the rom above?
would you mind if you create a kernel for jelly bean 4.2.?
all the other rom cookers for jb 4.2 have the problem that wifi-connection is not working.
thats because of a problem with the jb 4.1.2 - kernels.
here on xda no one created a kernel that is working 100% with jb 4.2.
can you do that?

Thanks for your feedback.
I will look what is the difference between my kernel, and their kernel, to fix the mobile connection.
My goal (at this moment) is to get a working jb 4.2 kernel for myself, however i do not have much experience with android kernels (i have with other linux kernels), and i also don't have much spare time, to spent on this project, so it will take some time.

And for your new 4.2-kernel this is the 4.2-rom that needs a new kernel especially made for 4.2.-roms....:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36656612
You are doing a great job. Thank you man!
For information:
The rom that i mentioned is a little bit laggy when you are starting apps, activating menus and so on..... But compared to all the other roms here on xda it definitely hast the fastest and most stable mobile data connection.
But i dont know the reason why.... It is using tytungs kernel...... But the combination of the rom with tytungs kernel might be the reason...
Just saying,
You should use tytung's repository directly, We mostly use the kernel repo to send patches to tytung so everything is in one central place instead of distributed repositories with each having something different.
test the kernal thanks for greet work

Good job
Thanks for your work.
Seems to work well with Pixel Droid version.
Can you tell me if your kernel will increase battery in the case of a standard battery.
Thank you.
@jejemorg:
When using this kernel with a standard battery, and use the installer saying it is a normal battery, the battery behaviour is not modified at all.
If you use a normal battery, and say in the installer, you have a 2300 mAh battery, you will observe your battery will is never more then ~ 50% full, and you will not be able to charge it full, so it will not increase the battery live of a normal battery.
However, during my experiments, I noticed another way to really get the battery capicity of a fully charged battery, without knowing it before. In the future, I want to do more investigations with this, and I also expect that it is possible to use the maximum capicity of each battery this way, which could be slightly more then the standard capicity for standard batteries. Maybe, I will work on this in the future, but at this moment, I first try to get a full 4.2 android version compiled, to do more investigations to the wifi problem.

Flash this kernel on CyanMobile eXperience 2.3.8, and stuck at boot.
CyanMobile eXperience 2.3.8

Hi @de-wolff
Thanks for your kernel and your work for all of us. I have a question, i use this battery:
http://www.obostore.com/1600mah-and...ch-hd2-leo-tmobile-hd2-p-28.html#.USDoVJY2WJQ
any chance add in option with aroma installer . Regards
@yunhover: Sorry, it will only work for jellybean (CM10.0 + CM10.1) roms. The CyanMobile eXperience 2.3.8 is CM7. I will put that information in the first post. If there are enough people who want to use a different extended battery for CM7 or CM9, I am willling to backport this change to kernels, which are appropiate for that.
@nqkoidrug: For 1600mAh you can use the 1700mAh selection. As long as the difference is not to big (max ~ 300mAh), it should work. After a few charge discharge cycles, it should be accurate.
Thx that u still develop for the great HD2.
Will buy the LEICKE Akku 2300mAh in a few days, i luv the Dorimanx Kenel. u think its possible to port ur settings into it? Based on Tytung ICS so it should be not so difficult. i would do it on my own but im not an developer.
I stay on 2.3.x till 4.x.x gets the performance and less drain that i want
