Hi guys...first post here.
I have been searchin the forums but have yet to find a straight answer.
I´m currently running CM7 RC1 mod on my Desire have the cpu scaling/ overclocking set accordingly. But I would love to have a widget for it.
Now I know there are a couple of apps out there that comes with widgets.
But is it OK to install thoose and just use the widget?
Won´t the apps "interfere" with the built in scaling and OC utility?
have you tried setcpu? it works great
I have on other mods...but I´m asking specifcaly on GM7 since it has built in OC tools. Will set cpu work without interfering with the built in OC tool ?
Don´t want to bork anything !

Hi Modders and developers! I have noticed that the kernel of hero is locked so technically overclock widget and setcpu don't work on it! I was wondering if some of you can remove the perf locks from the kernel and compile a new kernel which can be used with setcpu and overclocked to liking! I know this is hard but please give it a try! Millions of hero users will be thankful to you! Thanks!
It's been discussed many times, as I understand once 2.1 is released the kernel source will soon follow, there's no point doing the work until we have it.
Well Lox released a beta kernel a while back for 1.5 firmware rom's to do this...
It was a beta release but here is the link anyway:
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/302182/beta-run-your-hero-at-660mhz/
Sure it was discussed there were no noticeable improvements.
maxo64 was able to tweak it to run at 528mhz with screen on and 2** with screen off! so can any one of you change those while compiling a rom?
i searched every where but the only kernels that work with setcpu and actually allow you to overtweak and down tweak are for cdma hero! CDMA! please develop one for gsm hero.....
I second your motion! Was thinking of starting a thread with the same question...Would love to be able to down tweak to 192MHz when screen is off, or maybe even lower.

Hello,
setcpu and overclockwidget not work correctly, but with overclockwidget I see actual cpu freq., and if I "sleep" phone, freq. go down (24x) - if you very very quickly unlock screen, you ca see this.
I try this with VillainROM5,22 and Androbin1,111x.

Been done in aHero http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=638584
Probably wont be long before it is done in others, but you may have to request it from your dev.
Is there an app or a widget (or a noob friendly way) by which I can overclock my SGS? I've seen Cyanogenmod's overclocking app on the nexus one (froyo build) and was wondering if we have something similar for the SGS.
Edit: i found and installed setcpu which is set to conservative. Is this a good sting setting?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure you will also need to load an over-clocked kernel as well.
There's an OC kernel here which you'll need first.
I've used SetCPU in the past and have determined that my max stable clock speed is 113600; I've also read that using SetCPU to control clock speed can create some problems.
How would one go about manually overclocking the phone without using SetCPU? I was looking around in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq and it looks like there are kernel settings there, just want to make sure I don't bork anything in the process
Thanks in advance!
From my understanding is that if you get an overclock kernel it will basically run in the same fashion as your current kernel (as far as governing speed goes) except you'll have a higher max frequency.

SetCPU is the GUI to do what you are talking about... Are you looking to go past 1.113? I can only get to 1.113, but if I run Hyrda's OCOV kernel I can get to 1.15.
I would say if you don't know what you are doing, I wouldn't mess with it. Nandroid is handy if you do.
I'm running invisiblek's #16 kernel but max clock speed is showing 998. Not trying to go over 1.13 but thought I read somewhere about being able to manually change it in the system files somewhere without using SetCPU.
IIRC the idea was to use SetCPU to determine your max stable clock speed, then change it manually in a system file somewhere and then not use SetCPU.

Try uninstalling/reinstalling setCPU. I've had issues every once in a while when flashing a new ROM, then doing the app only restore from a TI backup cause issues.
Personally I can't say I've ever had any problems using SetCPU, but if there's a way to make it default to 1.13 without having another process running then I am all for it, thus my question. Just don't know where to change it
I can tell you i am 99.9% sure that you were right with the file location in your first post.
If you check chads thread SOMEWHERE in there i think its mentioned... Sorry to say but i have no idea where.
Here's a script that Ziggy wrote, you can edit it to your needs and flash it and fix permissions. Without editing it's set at 1.113GHz Interactive screen on and .384GHz Ondemand screen off if I remember correctly. It also has another tweak (memory management I believe?). But hey, it's a start.
Much appreciated guys, I will check out Chad's thread again and look at that script. I just don't see the need for SetCPU if I can just plug in my known stable values and roll it like that Thanks again!
Fixed lol sorry

LOL Blah! :-D
I have tried editing those files and it does not seem to change the clock speed. Anyone who has successfully done it manually could you please list all the specific files. Also im going to examine the script that was linked and see if i can tweak it a bit. Ill post any findings here.
I use the custom kernel #18 and setcpu, clocked to 1.115 easily with cm6.1. works awesome and smokin fast.

I edited Ziggy's script using EditPad lite (free, just Google it) since I'm on Windows so as not to change the format. Flashed from recovery then fixed permission in Root Explorer. Worked like a charm.
Basically I have the stock 3.70 rooted and all types of stuff. What I want to do is use a kernel that has the overclock set to a frequency 100% of the time. I dont want to use an overclock app.
If possible, are there any stock(based) roms that are overclocked out of the box, without the need for an overclock app? Ideally I would like to flash a kernel on the stock that I have now and have that kernel run the clock speeds at the overclock speed, for example 1.2ghz(example), 100% of the time with no throttling or governor.
thank you in advance for your input.
umm.. ..excuse my ignorance but why in the hell would you want to do that?
So your saying when you and your phone went to sleep you want to be max oc'd....
This is easily done with setcpu profiles and I don't think its a good idea just on battery life alone let alone stress from constant oc
swyped from my cm7 w/4G
Thisss , would kill the phone. No doubt at all. Even no over clock running at type clock 100% of the time would kill the phone..
Hello, to start yes I'm really stupid! I did watch the video in the start to try and find the answer to the following questions but it just confuses me and I would really like to get this done, thanks and on to the question!
So minutes ago I got my CM7 working for the first time! And right away I wanted to increase the clock of my CPU but it won't go higher then 768 on setcpu. From what I managed to understand its because of the kernel... So is it possible to increase the max clock with another kernel, if so whitch one and how much is safe to clock?
Thanks!
HTC Buzz (Wildfire)
Android version 2.3.7
Kernel version 2.6.35.14
Mod: Cyanogen 7.1.0.1 build GWK74
Yes its the kernel that controls CPU speed, test it for a while at 768mhz as not many wildfires can even cope with that, if you have problems random reboots, freezing etc then turn it down a little.
Kieranftw made a kernel called infinity ice or play I think? which made it possible to oc at 788 or 800mhz, mine was fine at 788 but very unstable at 800 so now I just settle for 768 as I didn't really notice a difference between the two, any higher than that is asking for trouble imo.
ok thanks for the answer, ive had no errors with the current settings, maybe ill keep it like this for the moment
