help i think i broke my screen - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So today I was trying to open my case and then all of a sudden my screen just went black and I couldn’t get it to come back on…..but when I messed with it it turned on but then after I turned it off the second time I couldn’t get it to work at all(yes I charged it 100 percent)

sounds like it's time for a visit to tmo...

RE:
i rooted it so im pretty sure they won't cover that

but how would they know, if the screen is dead?

im out of luck because it was givin to me and i don't have a warranty

the phone should still be covered under manufacturer warranty -- the phone was released on June 2, 2010 and has therefor not been available for a year yet.
Call T-Mobile customer service. Everything I've seen people say about hardware problems with this phone has been that T-Mobile took care of their phones with no issues.

thanks i will call man i appreciate your patience

you're welcome and let me know what tmo says

My Cingular 8525 just went dead!!!!

OK!!!
I need some help here.
I was talking on my phone, and it all of a sudden went dead.
Thinking it was a battery problem, i immediately plugged in my wall charger and saw that the light indicator was not lite.
I then got another battery from my functioning 8525, and nothing.
But the functioning phone worked after battery switch. So i ruled out dead battery as a cause.
I only did a ROM upgrade two days ago, otherwise the phone functioned without any problems.
I'll try to keep the phone on wall charger to see maybe it'll help but i doubt it.
Anyone else have this type of problem.
I'm currently thinking that it's dead, but i don't understand what could have happened.
Have you tried a Hard Reset?
I did soft reset, and even attempted to do a hardreset. several times. nothing. I see purely a blank screen.
What worries me is that when i plug in the wall charger i do not see any of the green or orange lights turn on.
I'm trying to search if there is any way for me to have someone check the phone out?
If the cost of fixing the phone is any where near 200 dollars then i might as well just buy another phone. Something better.
But any advice i'm willing to try short of dropping it off a roof. caz i know then i'll for sure have a dead phone...
Aren't there ideas like taking battery out and plugging into computer, and stuff like that?
I think I read them somewhere on the xda wiki.
IMO.. you should call at&t tech. they will most likely replace it.. and since they cant turrn it on.. they wont know what you did. anyway its a warranty exchange.. but im not sure of the number for at&t's tech department. good luck and keep us posted
I had the same probs 2 months ago...
No lights when charger was connected, hard/soft reset didnt help at all.
After 5 days of trying and trying i brought it to my provider repair center.
After 1 month of waiting they said it was a level 3 problem (highest). In the first case i was ordered to pay 230 Euro but i didnt agree, 3 days later they agree with no cost and i got a new tytn.
I used XCPUScalar.2007.v3.01 and clocked till 500 mhz.. maybe it burned my cpu..
Well good luck!

Now I know why you're not successful at flashing your device with my ROM . Sorry that I misunderstood your message.
You have to send it back for repair.
Sorry, again.
How does that happen?

So maybe i might have over clocked my cpu?
I don't know what could have happened.
I do know i installed Schap's 3.60a ROM but i installed it both of my 8525.
So i don't think it was the ROM upgrade that could have caused it.
In the mean time I'm looking into if HTC can help me here. I don't know how this would work.
I purchased this phone unlocked on ebay, i've asked the seller if he/she can get me the original invoice to prove that the phone is under manufacturers warranty.
I'll see.
As far as AT&T is concerned, i don't know how i should approach them.
But once i get the invoice information I'll be able to do more.
In your case contact HTC, forget about AT&T especially if the phone isn't on your account. You may need to be peristent with HTC as although they prefer to do things via the carriers, there's a direct route as well. They track the warranty status by S/N.
Good luck... that sucks.
Thanks for all the support
This morning, i tried to call up my carrier.
I explained to them what i observed and how the phone just went dead.
I did not mention anything about ROM upgrades (though i was asked if i did anything to the phone) nor did i drop it or dung it in water.
I was fortunate, that the lady was nice and understanding. I was surprised to know that they have all the information based on the IMEI number.
So as it turns out i made the purchase off the internet, in june. According to the lady since i made the purchase in june i was still under warrenty. They would ship out a replacement phone.
So far this is looking good.
I didn't expect it, but i guess AT&T isn't as bad as i proclaim it to be.
But customer service and phone service are two different things.
AT&T customer service has always been nice.
But their call service and internet sucks.
But got the contract so gotta stick w/ them.
ANd i like GSM, and Tmobile really sucks here in NJ and NYC.
So i gotta stick w/ AT&T
Will follow up once i get the replacement.
So far in doing business w/ At&T - they know, so don't try to kid them. Also need not give out more information then they ask. Just answer questions simple and to the point w/a bit of humor.

[Q] Screen is blank, but still responds???

I have a G2 with Salsa on it. Been working great for a month or so.
Last night I was using it, put it back in my pocket about an hour later I took it back out to use it and the screen backlight would come on, but there was no image there. I could hear feel the phone respond with by vibrating and what not. I even called it from another phone and the phone rang, and I could swipe to answer the call but the screen itself would not display an image except the backlight was on...
Any idea where to begin? Just get another phone or what???
Thanks for any help.
I had this problem. It sucks. Basically the screen when out on you. I had to get a handset exchange through T-Mobile. Good thing is they ended up sending me out a brand new model for some reason. In the meantime, I went to Best Buy and bought a Nexus S and returned it when the G2 arrived lol. Also, you can have T-mobile rush shipping but its an extra $20.
Dang that's what I was afraid someone would say... I don't have insurance on this phone! I will call t-mobile and see what they will do for me.
Mean time, guess it's off to find a BestBuy with T-Mobile.
This happened to me, too. I did a warranty swap, which doesn't require you to have T-Mobile's insurance. G2s are still new enough that the warranty should cover you with no problem.
The warranty swap was less fun. The first one they sent me had a broken microsd slot and I had to return it, too. The second one they sent works fine, but has a much looser hinge than mine had. But other people have been getting brand new ones, so you might luck out.
I guess being with t-mobile for 6 years is paying off. They called a store .5 miles up the road for me and had them start the exchange process. I just have to stop by and grab the phone. No hassle or waiting.
Thanks for the help though and letting me know I wasn't the only one. I was worried I bricked it some how. Looks like it's time to try another ROM. But I really like Salsa so I may stick to it.

samsung infuse 4g reported.

So i bought a samsung infuse not so long ago but today i lost it i looked everywere and didnt find it so i called and reported the phone lost/stolen and order a new one trew the insurance they charged 125$! which at the moment i dont have!
anyways, rite now i found out that my little brother took the phone! and now its just a brick that stays at the samsung screen is there anyway i can bring that thing back to life and use it to pay the 125 debt im in please im stressing -_-.
im very tech savy and stuff so i can follow steps please help. i know i can probably sell it for parts but mightcas well get alittle profit from it if its not a brick.... =[
I once had lost my phone in the forest out behind my house. I reported it stolen / lost and didn't deal with it after that.
Fast forward to about 4 months later, my friends and I are out there and I find it again. Replaced the battery and it booted right up. I called my phone company and they were more than happy to unlock it for me and it was not considered stolen anymore.
Have you tried just calling them and asking them to take it off the list? It worked for me, it could work for you too.

Outrageous Story of HTCdev Bootloader Unlocking in Hong Kong and Requiring a Repair

Hey everyone.
So basically, I live in Hong Kong, and there is an official HTC support center.
So I bought an HTC One X from my carrier, and then after a few days, I noticed I had a yellow spot, but before I detected this problem, I already went on HTCdev and unlocked my bootloader. So I called up HTC HK and talked to a guy, he insisted that I am able to fix it for free. Now, don't ask me why my carrier didn't take it in, they said I must bring it to HTC support center in Yau Ma Tei because it was beyond the 7 day in-store exchange warranty.
I sent my phone in the first time because of the screen issue, and it took about a week. They called me and said, that they are unable to replace the entire device because I unlocked the bootloader, telling me it will cost HKD 1800, and I said, NO! I sent it in because of the screen and not the motherboard! They replaced my phone's screen only, and not the entire device. So when I got my phone back, I had the exact motherboard which said "RELOCKED" and my Serial number matched up with my old one. So they had their hands digging through my 12 day old phone. I checked my phone for other defects, and wouldn't you know it, I found out ANOTHER problem on my screen, yellow spots appeared somewhere else as well as either a dead pixel was located in the middle of the screen, or a speck of dust, I'm not sure. So I yelled at them, and they took it back in.
The second time I sent it in, as I said before, was because of the unidentified dot in the middle of the screen AND the relocated yellow tint on the screen. As they stated before, they said they can't replace the entire device due to the unlocking of the bootloader, so they replaced the screen again. I was told to check the phone, and I found hairline cracks all over the phone. I WAS ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS. All those cracks were due to the repair and poor service, **** SERVICE REPAIR. Okay, I calmed down, I sent it back in, and they said they will replace the housing for me. I was infuriated at the fact that after I told them to repair it for me again, they told me that they will now ask a "Senior Technician" to look over this case, in my head I thought "WHAT THE ****, did you ****ing ask a "Junior technician" to fix this HKD5198 phone?" But I let it all slide, and I got it repaired again.
So yes, the last repair was because the casing was cracked. I took it back in, and was extremely dissatisfied with their repair service. So after listening to all the bull**** they told me AGAIN (voided warranty due to bootloader unlock), I verified my entire phone and checked everything, to make sure everything worked and looked good. I left the place with a fully functioning phone with no yellow spots and unidentified black spots on the screen.
I left the HTC support center, which is a 30 minute ride from my home area (Mid-Levels), and went to my service provider (one2free), I requested to see the senior manager of the company, waited for 15 minutes, and then when I saw him, we requested to speak in a private level of the shop. All staff were forced out of the level, and we started yelling at him. After 45 minutes of constant replies saying "We can't replace your phone directly because firstly, your phone is over the 7 day in-store exchange warranty, and secondly, we need to ask HTC for permission first". At this time, it was around 10pm, and he finally gave in because he was a nice person and we were one of the extreme-VIPs with over 10 unlimited contracts per month (HKD 500/number = HKD5000 a month). After a while, he finally decided to change my phone to the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE phone, which I used for one week. I rooted that phone, and when I restarted CWM recovery, the softkeys broke, even after stock software restore, it was still broken, so they exchanged it for a new phone.
I missed my beloved HTC One X because of the speed and elegancy, so I decided to head over to 3 HK (Hutchison Telecom HK) and my friend took my Samsung Galaxy S II, then helped me get a brand new second batch HTC One X under his number and I was so happy. Flawless to the perfect detail.
That was my story. You guys have any stories on your warranties and HTCdev unlocks? Post below!
That's one hell of a story xD. Good to hear it all turned out well even though you had to go through all that ****. I want to root my phone but because of these stories I don't want to unlock the bootloader...
I have a small yellow dot on the left side of the screen. It's almost not visible only if you look closely on a white background. It doesn't bother me and I could've gotten worse problems so yeah I decided to be happy with this model.
The first post in this thread started on May 2 warned everyone that HTC's no longer providing warranty repairs if they detect a device has had third party s/w loaded on to it. You can unlock the bootloader and still get work done under warranty but you can't load non-official ROMs. There are at least three different threads discussing this and one provides a link to spam HTC's blog in the UK voicing disapproval of the new policy.

Lol @ you yelling at them
And then taking the manager into a level and kicking the staff out to YELL at the manager aswel lol nice problem solving
They were a crap service and didn't help you much but after you kicking staff out of a level to yell at the manager
Don't expect the manager to help you out much even if you are "VIP" and you go off at the manager hes going to think your an arse and just find the fastest way to get rid of you
I used to work for a service provider in back end and the staff from front desk would always come out to the back and the first thing they'd say is "some prick just went off at me" and if its something that particular staff member didn't do and it was another staff members fault your name and "your a prick gets passed" around the office and nobody will want to help
The best way, is just let whoever your speaking to, know that youre not happy with the service your getting and that you're not actually angry at THAT person your speaking to

Sounds like the device was fixed under warranty. His complaints are that he had to travel 30 minutes and ask more than once for repair.
He wanted a replacement device after voiding the warranty, but didn't want to pay for it, so they replaced the screen under warranty (twice?). And then the casing.
You can't please everybody.
I had a screen problem too but not a yellow spot. If i change the brightness to full and use a black wallpaper you can see a blue spot in the middle of the screen. This is my second HOX after i returned the first one through my carrier in australia because of screen flex and cracking and it took 2 weeks.

Read the entire forum post a few days ago. I sent the device in with a relocked bootloader with the stock RUU reinstalled in it. I know that there was no "illegal software" (as they called it in the other port) present on the device when I sent it in 3 times.

In Hong Kong, one2free/CSL 1O1O is the most "luxurious" and "prestigious" carriers out there for business and high-end markets, so they state. In theory they are supposed to give out good handsets and not flawed ones. Every handset could be flawed and the manufacturers don't want it to be flawed, but the fact that they had the policy of 7 day in-store exchange and I detected it one day after, is just stupid.
But, I know, we weren't actually actually mad at the person we were talking to, he was just trying to help. The other person who was actually furious was because of the phone. We resulted in a happy ending anyways, and that guy told him he wasn't angry at him, rather he was just angry at the service HTC had to provide. We're not that cold hearted you know
I understand where you're going where you said that reasoning is the best way to handle these types of situations, but then it also requires a bit of yelling, and I'll talk about it below.

Yes, you can't please everybody. But have a think about this: How could a repair center do such a crap job that they had to repair it 3 times consecutively? Did they not do a quality check after they fixed the device? I mean, even if I did want to just replace the screen, they should have done it more professionally, not break the casing while repairing the screen.

We're not really classified as the "complain society", we just have many lazy people working for high-end companies and don't do ****, try to get rid of their assigned jobs as soon as possible and just slack off. Without requesting (yelling) to see the manager, they probably would just lie to you and say "Sorry! The manager is not here". As soon as they know how furious we are, they wouldn't mess with us and they would do their job properly.
Maybe if you lived in Hong Kong long enough and had the experience of poor service everywhere, you would know that yelling at them to get them to do something is the only way to get what you want.
If we didn't yell at them, they wouldn't have even prioritized this problem and just told us to leave with a broken phone because of a manufacturing defect on the phone THEY supplied.
This message is just to warn people that if you unlock your bootloader in Hong Kong, and you need a repair, they will repair, and not exchange, as many times as you want.
Hong Kong is a good place, but filled with lazy people due to the current social pressures. Let's say you try reasoning with them, without demanding them to look at your current VIP status, they would LITERALLY just ignore you, and tell you that they won't be able to replace it for you.
When you said "A VIP expecting best services because his is an expensive phone (they use the more experienced to fix more complicated issues, not based on the phone price)", I know where you're going at, you can't have everything. But try thinking, if you had your phone repaired, and then you knew it was an intern who repaired your phone, you would know it was poorly repaired or not, but most likely as your schemas will tell you that experts are more superior in skill that interns.
To be honest, I was fine with my repaired phone. It was the other guy I was with who had a bad day, and demanded that I go exchange my phone at my carrier. I gave my phone to him and went off looking at other phones, and he was just yelling at them in the private room. I didn't know how they actually got it exchanged, but the reasoning guy was there as well, so I guess after some demand to realize priority in this situation, and then 30 minutes of reasoning, everything worked out fine. I got my phone and left, really without saying a word.
Well, I have to agree that the repairwork sounds shoddy. When they fixed my DesireHD, they did great job in Yau Ma Tei.
And yes, service can be bad here.
Can I ask somethin about that famous yellow screen defect and flex issue?
Is it something that the phone comes with from the first day or is it developed gradually?
I mean, if we know that those are the 2 well-known issues, when we buy our phone we can check it for a couple of days and then root. Now, if the problem will develop later, we are in trouble. I'm waiting mine in a few weeks and that's why I ask.
Actually I am from hk lol
We are one hell of an abusive customer is king society.
I worked in service sector for half and it is insanely difficult to please any customers.
People asking for special favors or deals because they are buying expensive items.
I know that sometimes it feels like you have to get the situation serious for them to do anything. But most often when you have to go that far, you are disturbing other customer's who are being serviced.
The manager resolved to those solutions (such as giving a replacement phone when warrenty is void) is actually to shut you up asap. You aren't meant to get repair or replacement once warrenty is void (or so I think it is anyway).
Now that you or your fd has got it, you would feel it is their fault at the start for not just giving you one.
But you ain't supposed to have one.
So don't call them ridiculous, or need to yell to get them do something.
Generally these cases are out of standard routine and not fair for other customers
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
As stated, I did all this at night, in a special room. No other customers were there, it was dead quiet.
The point isn't that I voided my warranty. It is half of what I'm saying. We were upset of the job HTC did to repair my phone. And obviously its not like they didn't take my phone because of the warranty void, it was that we wanted to exchange a defective phone 12 days after purchase, 5 days beyond in-store exchange. Even 3 has a 14 day in-store replacement service, why does 1O1O only have 7? That's what I'm saying. Hong Kong carriers don't really give a damn if you unlocked your bootloaders, they don't know how to even check, its only the HTC service center that does this.
The point is, I am supposed to be issued a replacement if the phone THEY supplied had a defect and I had to go exchange it three times. They didn't care for bootloader unlocks, they just cared for their stupid 7 day in-store warranty and their lack of support after that.

SGS2 LTE rooted or not?
Dear Nicholas,
I have been doing exhilarating research about rooting these days because the information available for my phone is a little confusing, really. So I'm quite anxious about making mistakes and all, you know ;-) and getting into trouble like yours.
Now you have just briefly mentioned here that:

I just got a new GT-I9210 LTE and the rooting information is very confusing everywhere, people using Skyrocket ROMs and such claiming they're the same, but many saying the soft keys broke. Apparently this particular model doesn't have a solid community of users like Nexus or others. So I'm quite anxious about making mistakes and all, you know ;-)
And I happened to come across your post in another thread titled "[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II LTE Root [SOLVED]" from May 9, where you said that you successfully rooted SGS2 LTE (your mentioned specs exactly match mine) and your soft keys and everything works perfectly.
Now, I'm not trying to catch you out or anything, I was very excited when I found your instructions there first but I am just wondering, is this the same phone you are talking about here and there?
I would like to follow your method if it really worked.

[Q] Backlight dead?

Hi,
I just get a e-980.
With no special reason, the screen stop working, I realized under the sunlight, that my LCD still working, but I have no more backlight.
I can barely see white color shapes.
Is it a ''normal'' issue with those phones?
- I've opened it, clean contacts from ribbon cables. - didn't work
- I've done a complete stock reflash with LgFlashTool - didn't work
If you guys have no clue, I'm scared that I'm dealing with a brick, and get back my old reliable desireZ
thank you
Guess first thing to do in such a situation is to check if there is some obvious glitch- maybe brightness turned down to zero, phone not waking up die to some mod etc.. If does not work, then next is factory reset.. Next is a tot flash and then visit to the service center

yep. All done.
Like I said, I can receive calls/txt. I ear the unlock sound, etc. I can see LCD ON under bright sunlight.
Right now, I'm just thinking to throw it in the garbage, a 250$us phone that worked 2 days !!! Wow, people told me to never touch LG, I start to believe them.
Maybe some body here can sell me a functional LCD with broken digitizer??, mine is brand new.
I just dont want to dump more money in it, since the HTC is working strong, even for a 4 yo device
I'll try with LG warranty service, but it was a final sale
Exactly same issue with me too
I bought my LG OPTIMUS G PRO a few days back refurbished, it worked flawlessly for around a week. A few days ago its screen went blank even though it was possible to use screen blank like answering calls etc, i thought humidity has affected it and buried it in rice for one day and it worked again but after 2 days it again went blank and this time burying it didn't help. I am without luck now and looking for some workaround. Please someone help us if anyone knows how to fix it?
Awaiting eagerly for some suggestions.:crying:
Mmm seem to be a LG problem...
Event on optimus G forums people seems to have this trouble.
You just remind me something, went the screen go off, it was 90% rel humidity here, good point.
I tried to put it under high heat and the freezer. no luck.
All I want to know it's if it's the main board problem or screen.
Last time with LG pos, my brother had the LG 3D, wow, pos as well, nexus aren't the best phone as well.
HTC ftw, but the latest models are so no-user friendly on the hardware, seems like they try to copy apple.
My moto milestone 500mhz (2009) still working better than this, lol.
If you don't have a warranty, I'd open it up then clean and reseat the screen dongle connector.
This happened to my optimus g. Suddenly the screen went dark. I opened it up reseated everything and it didn't help. Thinking of buying a mee lcd when I find one cheap enough

yeah, but how you'll be sure that problem wont came back in a year?
The last time I heard about backlight stop working/burn, it was on compaq laptop with pentiumII processor.
1 1/2 year old phone, that's not normal.
any way, I put the phone in a bag of rice for the night, powered up, and the back light came on for 3 seconds.
-- 5 days and still have NO supports from LG.
This is just a thought. I had something similar happen in one of two ways, either the screen turning all red or dark. It was an issue with a night reading program, Twilight. After I managed to turn that off the problem went away.
If you have programs like Lux or Twilight running or anything that can control the screen try and turn them off.
Update.
I didn't touch the phone for days, leaving the battery out. Then I put it back just to be ready to retry a clean flash.
Screen all black.
I had something to do, I leave it on my desk for few hours, and when I came back to play with it, the screen light up. It's been a day , no issue, but some times the screen flicker.
It will probably let me down soon.
Strange issue : the home button led light doesn't work anymore.
Is it because I flashed the telcel stock rom on the e980 at&t?
DOES SOMEONE know HOW to get service FROM THIS company????

They just don't care, the moment I said that I bought this phone to the US and use it on a Canada carrier (Rogers / At&T , dont need to unlock the phone! ) , they flush me .
WTF???????????
Seriously people, don't deal with them.
So far, what I learn is that more this device is getting old ( wtf? a year or so isn't old) they have observed this issue.
Be careful pals, don't over use it
IF you buy a LG product, do not expect customer support. My e980 had a failed battery at 10months, LG basically told me to go screw my self. (Wanted me to pay to ship the phone, which would cost more then a new battery, and why do they need the phone when the battery is faulty, i gave up, bought myself a new battery, and have been good since. ) other then that, i like their hardware, ive had a G2X and now the G pro.

I see a lot of people try to blame manufacturer for the issues of their phone. LG, HTC, Samsung, Apple.
Remember, they all offer one year warranty. So if your phone is still under warranty, go RMA. I already got two HTC and one Samsung exchanged.
If your phone is not under warranty, did you buy it used ? Then you should blame the previous owner or yourself. Why did this happen to your phone ONLY while ten's of thousands of users here are fine?Did you do something that may cause the issue?
This is not personal. I just try to say something fair when I see people said "Never touch LG/Samsung/HTC.."
It won't help your phone come back. And it did mislead other users

It doesn't sound like they told you to "go screw yourself" exactly. It actually makes quite a bit of sense that a manufacturer would want all of a faulty device to arrive rather than that their customer just send them the parts they assessed as faulty. If they had to send you a new device, they would probably want the old one intact.

I called LG to exchange my Nexus 4 earlier this year. I call only once and they give me a shipping address( HTC also give address when I called ), asking to ship within 10 days or so .
They did NOT ask the carrier of my Nexus 4.( T-Mobile if you want to know ). They just check Imei and verified that the phone was under warranty.
I did not send the phone back to LG in the end. Someone bought it from me. The Nexus 4 has light yellow tint on display but hardly noticeable. The buyer don't care..
My point is, OP, I guess you did not told us that your phone might not be under warranty

Asking you to shipping back to factory is Exactly what is called customer service.
All manufacturers do so!
They need to run full software and hardware check on your device, making sure that all parts are working when they return the phone to you.
You might care a few bucks shipping cost . But truth is that maybe battery was not just the faulty part. Something else MIGHT go wrong as well. They need to find out once you call in for RMA.
It is YOU don't know what customer service is, Not them.
