I started my journey in the Android world few days back. Previously I used Nokia 5800. Hearing so many good things regarding Android, I planned to buy an Android phone and at last bought HTC Desire.
My Desire in brief -
Screen: S-LCD (may be)
Model: A8181
Android version: 2.2
Baseband version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Build Number: 2.12.110.4 ...
Made in Taiwan
#1 I observed that some applications (Android System Information, Elixir etc) shows Max. RAM 415MB in my Desire. But it should be 576MB, shouldn't it?
#2 It doesn't show call waiting on the screen when the called party is in another call having call waiting feature activated.
#3. I didn't find any indicator of showing a diverted call.
Could anybody please make clear the above issues?
I believe that is because they did not include the RAM used by system.

Is there any solution of point 2 and 3?

I am deciding to buy a phone: between hd2 and desire. I would prefer hd2 as it can have multi-os. I am a developer and it's a plus to have a phone support multi os so that i can develop and test on these os without having to buy multiple phones... i am planning to use android as my main os but i am wondering if it worth it..
I have been reading a lot of threads of android roms on hd2 and posting quite some questions lately about flash 10.1 support, battery etc..
the more i read about the android roms on hd2, i keep finding more and more issues(with some constantly repeating):
like robot voice where some people say it's fixed in one thread and in another more recent thread someone else says he still has the issue (and has to enable loudspeaker and turn it off or some say the phone freezes when they get robot voice and have to reboot); that's pretty annoying imo..
there's also low volume issue that i always see in every rom thread i read..
then there is vibration problem or phone not ringing, missed calls issues, battery drain issue, etc... (the list is quite big )
my question: do these issues exist in htc desire sock rom or desire's custom roms (i am a fan of customisation and will probably be flashing custom rom on desire if i buy a desire instead of an hd2)?
My primary concerns are
calls, sms (I will be using it for my work; so missing a call or having bad call quality or missing sms are not acceptable)
camera (should react quick a bug-free to take photos with default winmo quality)
music player (just need decent sound)
,
is there an android rom having all these 4 functionalities stable and bug-free (haven't found any yet.. been doing a lot of research and reading a lot of android rom thread)...
sorry for the long post and thx for reading it... waiting for your responses... depending on my needs. Hopefully, i will get the necessary advice to make my final decision. Thanking you in advance
u've said it all in ur post, if android is not running as it should on hd2 (as hd2 is primarily designed for WM) and u need android as ur first OS option, there should be no question which of these 2 to chose.
as for custom ROMs u have a thread about each one so take a look. basicly they all do the work.
but then u have multi os on hd2 and like i am asking in my post : is there actually a stable android build on hd2 that do not have the issues i mentionned? maybe i missed it... would be glad if a user with both phones could answer me
There are many great roms for desire. As long as you choose a stable one and not a rc. All have different pros and cons. Personally defrost & oxygen my favorite. But I change all the time currently running ReDux. Which is the most stable gingerbread rom I've found. Anyway any stable rom should consistantly deliver those 4 thing u want. Can't speak for hd2 as never used 1. But I really rate my desire. .
P.s get a case straight away as camera cover gets scratched up easy.

Do you want to run WinMo? If not.. desire all the way
Why struggle to make something run Android when you can get a proper native android device? Seems like a no-brainer to me
Good evening,
Sorry if this question is not relevant,
I just bought a second hand Htc Desire, flashed SuperROM HD 2.0 than changed to InsertCoin HD 2.0.0 and both of these cases I get "radio : unknown" in all apps that give system info (Quick system info, Elixir, Android system info ....)
On the other hand, I get the right number in the bootloader and the main android parameters menu.. And all communications are working fine..
So I was wondering if this was a app problem with Android 2.2.1 or anything else.
When I was testing SuperRom HD, I couldn't receive calls when using 3G band, but working fine with insertCoin. Seems to be an android base issue, so I have read.
Sorry I'm new at this
I also wanted to know if ext3 needs to be aligned to gain speed with A2SD because I get very low quadrant scores (1250ish) with class 6 8Go miniSD card whereas other members seem to have very decent scores with same rom ...
I know the score is not so important but I checked after having some lags in very famous games
And just to be sure, ext3 can be updated to ext4 without loss of data ?
Thanks for your advice
Just noticed that if I hot restart my device, the radio is detected correctly in all apps but not with a normal restart..

I've suddenly noticed in the top bar of my htc desire a symbol that is best described as like an upside down L all in white with a 45 degree slash underneath it followed by a circle of white. can someone tell what it is and how to get rid of it? thanks in advance..
More details about your hardware and software. Otherwise it's nearly impossible to help you.
I think you have a list of notification icons in your users manual, so I reckon it's best to start from there.
Any chance of a screenshot? We've got no frame of reference here.

Today I wanted to see a 720p .mkv video and it was ridiculous, I've never seen a device lag this much. I used to bear with it before but now I'm really annoyed, I mean it's a Galaxy Tab, how come it can't even reproduce a 720p video? I'm determined to do something about it but I'm not quite sure about what. I should mention my knowledge of these things is almost zero. Can you please help me?
