Hi, I am just wondering how I can lower the battery usage of my screen. The screen is currently using between 50% and 60%. I have turned animations off, the brightness has been reduced to less than 10% and the screen timeout is at 15 seconds, so I really don't know how to reduce the screen usage further.
I have seen other people saying that their screen uses between 20% to 30%, but how is this possible when I've taken all possible measures, but still the screen is eating the battery.
Thabk you.

The battery usage percentages are rather misleading. You should note that these are percentages of the total usage, rather than absolute figures.
So you could have your screen set at a very low brightness but get a screen battery usage of 50% simply because all other processes are using 50%. Maybe you limit the amount of time you have 3G enabled, for instance...?
Whereas someone else might have their screen brightness set very high, and a screen battery usage of 30% because they have other power-hungry processes running and using 70% of the battery.
It's all relative...
The more important thing to worry about is: are you getting through the day comfortably on a single charge? If so, no problem - ignore those percentages.
Oh okay I see. Thank you for your help.

I'm on here often and see of screen shots of peoples battery info. I don't see any one as high as mine. Here are my battery stats being unplugged for 6 hours and 1m
Display 74%
Cell stand by 7%
Phone idle 5%
Android system 5%
Dolphin hd browser 4%
Voice calls 2%
Swype 2%
I haven't used it much this morning so maybe the screen is taking up the most, but it always is the highest percent. Any ideas?

Are you running CM6?
Yes, is there an issue with this also?
Been unplugged for 2h 58m
My top is Cell Standby at 25%
Bottom is Display at 6%
rooted/forever/2.1/Hydra uv stock clock
I have auto-adjust off and keep the screen fairly dim, simply because that's how I like it not to save battery.

Im not sure if it is an issue but CM6 will show high display usage, where else other ROMs would usually show cell standby higher.
High display usage is a common theme on every single phone...it's what takes up the most battery in devices. Turn down your brightness if it's getting to be too much for you. Keep in mind that charge is the percentages of the battery taken up so far. so 75% of battery if you only have 10% gone is only 7.5% of your total battery.
I lose about 10% per 30min on browsing (xda or dolphin) on 3g here in central London with full signal. Just wondering if that's normal or am I loosing too much battery there?
Standby on 2g is excellent. Drains about 1% every 2-3hours.
I think it's quite normal.
I lose about 5% for 10-15 min browsing...
i think it's pretty normal, just depending on you screen brightness...
It depends on the screen brightness, and also the cpu usage. You might be able to limit the cpu speed to use less power

Easiest way to find out is checking whats using the battery. I guess it's the display since it's the biggest battery consumer. It's mostly responsible for about 70-80 % of my battery usage. And I already have brightness down to maybe 30 %.
Anyway, go to Settings -> About phone -> battery -> battery use and see what's the reason for your battery loss.
But 10 % isn't too much.
I am having battery drainage due to the display (unlike most people who are having battery issues because of the android system). I've tried dimming down the brightness and putting the screen timeout to the lowest possible but the display still sucks up most of my battery. Can anyone help me with this ?
I think that would be normal. It's a 4.5 inch touch screen; it takes a lot of juice to be so pretty ...
Under settings - about phone - battery usage - display, what is the time on vs. % of battery usage?
I've been off the charger for 30 minutes and display use is at 76% since I've been browsing news and xda non stop.
If your screen on time is low compared to it's battery usage, it's a different story. Sounds like you've tried the usual fixes.
Well I've been off the charger since 12 last night so it would be 12 hours. But the thing is that the display usage says 51% and the actual time on for display was only 2 hours.
and also my battery drains 1% about every 30 minutes with the screen off.
2 hours of screen on time sucking 51% of the battery sounds normal to me, even across other Android phones on GB. Touch screens use lots of power.
Maybe someone else can chime in with something I'm not getting, but it seems normal to me.
This is a screenshot of my E4GT after 33 hours off the charger with normal usage. I don't play games, but I do text a lot and had a few calls as well. As you can see, the screen was on 20% of the 33 hours, meaning 6.6 hours etc etc and I still had 9% battery life at that point.
I am loving my phone!
Doesn't that 20% mean that the display used 20% of the battery power, not that it was on for 20% of the time? If you select the Display, it actually shows you how long it's been on.
I just feel like my battery should last longer than it does. I used to own the moment and that would last me three days with moderate use. ButI guess that this phone is more powerful it would make sense not to last three days. If only that would happen haha

just curious what is everyone brightness setting and how is your battery life
i like mine at 30%
battery life good, as you can see in the big battery life topic
30% seems to perfect for me too
just enough to hide the lines, and gets around 15 hours with a ton of use.

you forgot to mention at that setting it makes the images more vivid
while you can save more power by having it at 20% or even 15%
but then the images looks like any other regular SLCD display, or even pale if you set it lower than that
I love in Arizona where the sun can be very bright so most of the time i'm at near full brightness

55% brightness is perfect for me. I found it's the correct setting if you use the stock browser at manual brightness also. Meaning if you turn off auto brightness in the stock browser you can't match the brightness setting with the screen. If you ever tried it you can get exactly 50% on the screen, but the browser only goes slightly below or slightly above 50%. It's a minor detail, but it urked me every time I opened the browser, and the brightness changed.
Anyway, at 55% brightness I get about 18 hours of battery life, and within that my "screen on" time is anywhere from 3 and half, to 4 and a half hours. Depending on what I'm doing. Basic browsing last longer. Games shorter.
I always keep mine at 100% to really use the Super AMOLED screen to its greatest capacity. My battery life varies, with consistent usage, I get a good 4 - 6 hours. I'm currently using the Juggernaut ROM
In a bright room I just leave brightness off. It seems sufficient enough as it is. Outside in sunlight I use 30%.
Running CM10 Wild into the Night.
If I let the phone sit without touching it, I get an average drain rate of about 10% per hour, lasting me about 10 hours on a full charge. However, the battery decides to have a field day as soon as I perform the occasional texting and web browsing.
As shown by the screenshot, culprit is the screen. However I have the brightness set way down (about 1/4 from the bottom) and the phone goes to deep sleep 70-80%. According to Gsam battery monitor, the screen uses about 60% of battery with only around 52min of on-time during the 5 hours that a full charge lasted.
Something is definitely up. When I was running stock Touchwiz, AndroidOS used to be the battery hogger. But now the screen has taken over the crown on CM10.
Screen will always use the most unless you neve use the phone. How old is your battery? Does it spin?

That sounds like you need a new battery. 52 minutes is no
Where near long enough
. or possibly with the screen on some app is running the CPU full speed
use CPU spy and leave the screen on indefinitely after unplugging it from the charger at full battery, and see if the highest CPU state is being used for the entire screen on time after you unplug it.
