Hello guys,
I have one problem with my Kaiser and although I've searched for a resolution I couldn't find something helpful. Maybe some of you know about this and give me some advice.
I installed different android releases on my Kaiser but after the system starts I just cannot see any contacts on the sim ( nor messages ). I must say that I made the installation having the sim card removed from phone. Why can't I "see" the contacts and messages on my sim? ( on other normal phones everthing is ok ).
Thanks a lot,
victor

You must transfer contacts from the SIM to the phone, then set up the GMail contacts sync. Go to Contacts, then press menu "Import/Export contacts", and import from SIM card. When done, set your phone to sync with GMail server and your contacts will be uploaded to your GMail account.
When you reinstall Android, all you need to do is sync with your GMail account and all your contacts reappear, like magic!...lol.

Hello,
I noticed that after upgrading, all SIM contacts are also present when
viewing contacts. I also noticed that it is now possible to synchronize
the contacts with the SIM contacts.
Contacts > Menu > SIM Manager > Menu > Tools > Contacts to SIM
Currently, my SIM contacts were added manually on the card.
If I were to remove them all from the SIM, and set "contacts" to
synchronize to the SIM, will the SIM contacts still show up in the
contacts list (or does it know they are synchronised, so it doesn't repeat
them)?
(a downside I see to this is that the SIM contacts can only be 14
characters in length, so the mark for home/mobile/work won't show up for
the majority of contacts; whereas I can force this when managing the SIM
contacts manually)
If they still show up, is there a way to only show contacts present on the
phone (not those on the SIM)? I gather it is possible by adding all
contacts to a group, and filter on this group; but is there an easier way?
Thanks!
Jörg

I remember with HTCustom 1.7 from Shadowmite, you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307873, you can disable the SIM contacts even exsits on the SIM, so you only see your PDA contacs.
Regards.
Hey VJ,
Before I had my Hermes I always used the SIM contacts. Now I have push e-mail with my company's exchange server I only use my exchange contacts.
I have read a thread of a guy who is selling for 20$ an exchange account on his own server.
Maybe this is an solution for you.
I have past week flashed my device about 6 times. In each case I'm up and running with all my settings in about 5 minutes. And thats because I'm not so fast.........
So the exchange push mail/contacts is working perfect for me!
Regedit this mate (taken from wiki):
Show/Hide Sim Contacts:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Phone]
"ShowSIM"=dword:00000001 ->0 to disable, 1 to enable
The rest of the wiki's reg tweaks are on the same page. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry Enjoy.
hey guys, just a simple question, i finally backed my contacts up on my sim card but now they are showing up on the contacts as well as the original contact entry. how do i disable sim contacts from showing up? many thanks.
holla
I had the same issue.. I noticed that on the kaiser advanced config tool, there is an option to "hide contacts". It actually worked a couple of times for me but I eventually just deleted my contacts off of the sims card and started syncing via exchange server or windows PC. You may want to give it a try though. The cab was called "Advanceconfig.cab" If anyone else wants to add something please do. I would be interested in hearing more as well. I was just disappointed that you cannot back up all your information such as E-mail addresses to your sim. That is why I started using Exchange.
shaps advanced config tool has option for you
I belive that is the program that I have used. It is a great all around congig tool in my opinion.

After that you boot to android and set up your google account. It should sync the contacts automatically.

worked for me
outlook
I syncronized them using activesync to outlook. exported tot a .csv.
imported the csv in GMAil, en sync-ed my kaiser android with that google account
Why do it easy when you can do it the hard way
I can copy the SIM contacts to phone, but i can't copy back to SIM card, any idea?
That's because android phones are supposed to sync with the cloud. Not the sim card.
Get yourself a google mail account, setup calendar online (google) then sync - look at their instructions for active sync.
Boot to androd and sync to google
works well as if like me you're running via haret then contacts and calendar stay in sync windows / android and my email too
shame it can't do tasks and sms
WHY? DO IT THE EASY WAY!!!
Go to contacts (android), press the windows button on your kaiser and select import-import from sim?
Sprite mobile
another easy way of doing that is using
sprite mobile

My question is... how do we sync pics from facebook to the contacts? I've imported/syncd all my contacts from facebook but it won't show pics for them :-(
DJHile, if you're using my build it should sync pics, I choose 'sync with existing contacts' and it shows the pics automatically.

Poly, I am indeed using your build and used the exact same sync option as you but unfortunately, I get nothing but the android silhouette :-\
I do have quite a few contacts but none of them have a picture.
EDIT: I'm a dummy. It won't sync if I'm not getting some sort of data connection or wi-fi connection which I wasn't when I posted this... Then I installed the wifi fix update, wifi is good and somehow it fixed my cellular data connection problem also... contacts are syncing now!
i used sprite migrate to transfer my contacts...allthough it did not appear in google market so i downloaded and installed it manually...then when i opened the application in android it said that the version is expired(just downloaded from the site...)so if anyone intend to use it you just have to adjust the date 1 year ago...eg. 11/3/2009 instead of 11/3/2010...hope this helps someone...
thanx man!u have solved me problem, genius man

I am so mad at my "Hemroid" (I mean android) right now I am about to smash the g-damn screen,,,,
Apparently I am missing something important ?? - I dunno - ... Why do all contacts created in GMail sync to the phone, BUT,
Only "Some" of the contacts created IN THE PHONE sync back to gmail ????
I freaking hate being mad at stupid ****, this is retarded...
Any ideas ?

When you create the contact from the phone, do you set it as a Google contact, or a phone contact?
Sent from my girlfriend according to my current girlfriend
When creating a contact you may have to select it as a Google contact. Try recreating a contact that won't sync, select it as a Google contact, and see what happens.
Make sure that your phone is set to sync contacts in Accounts and Sync too.

Set as a Google contact, and selected the correct email address.
I even tried looking at an alternate email I had, thinking it might have synced to the wrong one - nope...
Just for example, I had created 2 or 3 contacts from my phone, the same way each time, as google contacts. When I synced the phone, only 1 of them synced to gmail...
I though "WTF? maybe I screwed up", so I rebooted the phone, logged out of gmail, deleted the contacts, and tried again.
NOPE !!!
POS "Hem--RRRROOOOIIIIDDDD"........
Anything I create "From" gmail syncs correctly, but only "some" created from the phone synce back to gmail..
And yes also I did double, tripple check that 'background services, auto sync, sync contacts, sync email, default email account, were all correct... I tried repeatedly clicking 'manually sync now' 'sync this' and so on...
NOPE ! Nothing.
"Hem-ROOOOOIIIIIDDDDDD"
Well just chiming in my Gmail contacts won't sync on NY one account but they will on any other maybe try a new account?

go to your contacts, hit menu, select "view" and uncheck everything but "phone" contacts...those are the ones that aren't syncing, am i correct"
"phone" contacts won't sync
"google" contacts will sync
I would follow the patches advice. I found that I was looking at facebook phone numbers but they were not getting uploaded to my gmail account. I dont understand why there is not a "phone to contact" or "contact to phone" option like sooo many phones in the past. It would be GREAT if there was an android app built for that. I dont understand why they do not have a "Sync ALL" option that will allow you to save all information from facebook/gmail/phone/ect to a single location to use.
I also dont like the "gmail" vs "mail". That may have something to do with it too. I set up my initial gmail account but never got to see my mail because it was always in the "gmail" app and not in the mail.
Anyway, I think that is a separate issue all together.
Good luck

What a dumbass, What a dumbass I am ....
P.S.
ATTN: Hey all future searching dumbasses of America who stumble across this thread: Make sure that you click the dropdown menu that says "Contact type" and change it to Google, every single time you create a contact... And when you are sick or drunk, add them later, because you might end up looking like a dumbass, like myself

ANOTHER PROTIP: every once in awhile go check how many "phone" contacts you have by following the steps in my last post. i also found that i have a bunch of duplicate contacts, you can either link them, but i find it easier to edit via PC from the gmail contacts area. you can select multiple contacts, merge them, etc. when you email people gmail automatically creates a contact, but it's stored under "other contacts". you can move contacts in and out of the different groups, etc. get familiar with that and it's way easier than doing it from your phone.

Good learning, and sound advice for folk.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your input, I had the issue of my gmail contacts wont sync and throws up the error that it cant sync at this time, and it keeps trying and runs your battery dead trying to. this was all after I rooted my dinc s-off, I even deleted all my contacts and it would sync one time successfully then go right back to the same crap.
But I never tried making all my contacts into gmail contacts mainly because I wasnt having an issue until I rooted my device, but here is a bigger mystery, I run Cyanogen7 and dont have any issues syncing anything, only when I run the stock rom.
So I guess I need to be added to the DA list...LMAO
And one last tip if you have a bunch of "Phone" contacts and want to get them all transferred at once: you can export your phone-only contacts then import them all into google.
People > Menu > Import/Export > Export to SD Card > Phone
This will export all of your contacts marked as "Phone".
People > Menu > Import/Export > Import from SD Card > Google
This will re-import everything into the gmail account you select.
This is some good information. My wife was asking me about this the other day. XDA FTW.
Looking to see if I can solve some issues with my phone without havign to do a fatcory reset,
1. At first the phone wasn't showing contacts from the sim card. So I imported them, but now it appears the phone is reading them as I have duplicates for a lot of the contacts. How do I delete the ones off my phone.
2. I have FB on my phone, but contacts unsynced. When ever I get a txt it comes through with their facebook account name and sometimes their picture. It even happens when they call me. How can I stop this from happening?
Basically how can I use only the contacts on my sim card? Don't want the phone using any others!
Thanks,
First install "go contacts" from market. In its menu options, you can batch delete all contacts. Do it. Then go to settings in your phone( before Google or Facebook sync the contacts again), then go to accounts and sync. You may see you online accounts there like gmail, facebook etc. Click on every account you have and untick sync contacts( if you want to avoid any others like sync Calender/ mail etc, you can untick it too) . Done fb or gmail will never sync contacts till you tick it again and do a sync.
Now go to contacts in your phone( if you are done with removing contacts, you can uninstall " go contacts". I do the same with it on my cm7 rom, as the stock contact application does not have a batch delete option . If you can find any other application which can do the same batch delete , u may use it insted of " go contacts ") now in contacts click menu and it have an import/ export option. Use it to copy contacts from sim to phone.
Remember to take a backup of all you contacts to SD card using the import/ export option. In case you may delete phone/ sim contacts. Pls note that phone contacts load much faster than sim contacts. So just copy it to phone memory. And use it.

simple.....!!
see first of all keep the facebook for android" app on internal memory...its important othewise you will have to sync every time after the boot...to sync all your fb contact with phone.or to have all your FB contact on your phone you just have to go to settings of the Facebook app...press menu on the primary facebook page..and then select settings and their you'll find an option to sync your contacts...just select "sync all"... an their you go....DONE!!
and yes dont forget to join your existing phone contacts or gmail contacts to your FB contacts it can be done by open the contact you want to join/link > select editing contacts from menu > now again go to menu and their you will see option to join. and in the edit menu u'll also find NICK NAME bar just fill your friends nick name their and it'll be shown in every call/msg to you...
anmol, thats how to sync FB contacts. I wanted to do the opposit.
So I deleted all contacts. Including sim card ones =[
How can I add a conact to sim card for the phone to view them? I can only see the option of my google account of phone only, unsynced.
I prefer to keep all my conacts on my sim card, if something happens to my phone atleast I have the sim card!
CM just seems one big pain after an other!
Remb you have an sd too, back up contacts to sd. I think default contact manager on cm7 have no option to copy contacts to sim.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Cm7 does have import/export contacts to SD, I had to do the wifes the other day.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Aye thanks guys, noticed that it didn't actually delete the contacts off my sim card. Sure I tried to import off sim, either phone was having a hissy fit or I was being an idiot.
Got it all sorted now though!
