I've noticed on some phones such as Samsung Omnia 7, the option to set screen timeout to never had been removed. It is available on other phones such as HTC HD7. Does anyone know of a way to enable the option on phones where it's missing?
i just searched for it and found it
here you go
HKey_Local_Machine --> Control Panel --> Lock --> DisableNever key is set to dword:1 set this to dword:0
this will add the never option to your list of options
Thanks Marvin_S
Why do companies like Samsung just remove this option?
Because it can cause damage to the screens if left on all the time. Remember the two Samsung WP7 phones have SAMOLED screens - all others have LCD of some sort.

I know for this much that its a HUGE pain in the but while trying to use bing to navigate while driving... constantly having to "tap" the screen to keep it from turning off.
They could at least have an option to have it so it doesnt shut off while certain aps are running.

Once Bing Maps introduces turn-by-turn navigation (inevitable) they may implement something that lets the screen go to sleep between instructions, but wake up at important parts. Tom Tom have something like that on their devices...

Thanks but how can I access this registry?
You have to have a Chevron-unlocked WP7-Device and a Registry Viewer App. Then you can change it.

My Focus is developer-unlocked and I successfully changed the registry value ( DisableNever is 0), but no joy. I even did a hard reset on the phone. Screen time-out options still only show values from 30 secs. to 5 mins. Any suggestions?

you can also use wpinternals.net app and reboot in mass storage mode, then use windows regedit to access
1)choose "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
"file>Load Hive>[phone_storage_disk]:\windows\system32\config\software" , name it "PHONE_SOFTWARE"
2)then go to this path:
MY PC\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\PHONE_Software\Microsoft\Settings\Lock
and set DisableNever to 0
3)finally choose on "PHONE_SOFTWARE" and click "file>UnLoad Hive"
then reboot in normal mode and will see "Never" option
really 100 % working method, very easy, dont need root or so on!!!:хорошо:

Hey im just trying to change my screen to always be in landscape i trying to do it but its not worrking i understand every thing till it say "Change the Value of "Angle" to the FF:" please some one give me more detailed instructions
Set the Screen Orientation thru Registry and works only after soft reset
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION]
Change the Value of "Angle" to the FF:
dword:00000000 or dword:00000360 -> Portrait Mode
dword:00000090 -> Landscape(Right-Handed)
dword:00000180 -> Portrait Up-side Down
dword:00000270 -> Landscape (Left-Handed)
Hide/Unhide Screen Orientation Option in Screen Module[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION]
"HideOrientationUI" -> set 0 to unhide, 1 to hide
Set Fix Landscape(Right-Handed) Mode and No Landscape(Left-handed) in Screen Settings
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION]
"Landscapefixed"-> set 0 if disable, 1 to enable
What device are you doing this on?

I thought you could change it in settings/screen
i want to change it for good so if i open and close it it will still be in landscape
There are a few ways:
1. Use an app that will rotate the device to landscape, and install a power on notification to launch that on every power on. That way the device will auto rotate itself properly.
2. Remove the magnetic sensor. Semi permanent and dangerous.
3. There is I think a registry hack to force this, but I could never find it again. Search the board using google [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322565] and try to find it. Let me know if you find it!
V
PS I wrote VJUzumaki to disable the autorotation properly. However, it's not released (yet).
the registry hack is in my first post i need help with the instructions
there's a less permanent, but far simpler, easier and less intrusive method that I use. Under start, settings, buttons, pick a button that you don't use often, and assign it to rotate screen. I rarely use the camera, and when I do it's easy to get there through the menus, but I use rotate maybe half the time I use the phone

Hi All,
Unfortunately I lost the original 2 stylus. Don't ask me how, but they were disappeared somehow. So based on an idea from someone on a Hungarian Touch HD forum I wrote a small and very simple application called NoStylusWarning. It is simply monitoring the stylus state and if you set up some warning then it can put a notification onto the task bar and vibrate when e.g. the device is moving.
Improvements:
- language file support (xml)
- sound notification
- autostart
- partial solution for full hiding (background processing)
- vibration on stylus state change
- last settings are saved to the registry, application will load them on startup
- cab for easier installation
- some minor redesign
Features:
- notification icon and balloon for switched on device
- vibration for suspended device
- monitoring g-sensor to detect moving
- monitoring light sensor to detect stylus loosing in pocket/pouch
- running in unattended mode to detect events in suspended mode
- smart minimize (X using your default setting, to minimize, use the menu)
Installation / requirements:
- .Net 3.5 is required as well as an HTC device with g, light and stylus sensor
- Install the CAB file. For language support find the EN_Language.xml in \Program Files\NoStylusWarning directory rename it to language.xml and edit it to your language or rename an existing xml file to language.xml (only Hungarian is available at the moment)
Known bug(s):
- light sensor changes are not detected in suspend mode.
- registry values are not deleted when uninstalling (it can be a feature also )
- full hide mode is available only when taskbar notification is selected, there's no return point to the application when it is hidden except the button in the notification bubble. :-(
Comments and requests are welcome. Thanks!

I hope yes, because of the same sensors in Diamond, Pro and HD. I have a HD so I could test just on the HD. If one of the sensors is not reachable / available, the application will warn you and exit. But I think Diamond and Pro is supported.
It seems that not memorize the settings when I close it.
The app is in the background on.
Is it possible to make, that is the app only in the Autostart active.
Look the pic.

Do you mean that if you autostart the application, it will run minimized by default? This connects to the previous suggestion about saving/loading previous settings. If so, (I hope) I can put it to the application...
Jes.
hi is in the autostart and also like on my pic.
If I make minimize then is it so.
If I close, then is the app not active.
Neato little app!.. but no sound alarm??
I have set MemoryMagic to play an alarm sound when the stylus comes out... works for me.

Hello, I don't think so. As far as I know Xperia has different sensors and maybe the vibrator function is not on the first led.
I hope i will have enough experience to extend my app to other winmo devices, but it is a big requirement that the device must have a stylus sensor.
Great function would be to use gps data to check where the stylus has been lost just in case you didn't notice the notification.

As an optional monitoring feature this is a great idea. I will try to do my best to implement this (and all above mentioned) function to the following release.

And if you lose the stylus in your bag, and the program stores with gps data the place where it starts notification, but you are going around with your bag or leave it at home or in office?? Where is your stylus?? where indicated from gps data or in the bag but you don't know??
Thanks for sharing ! Very useful for me lol !
Is there any way to run this automatically on startup??
Putting a shortcut in the startup folder doesn't work right??

Hey all. I've done a few searchs and read through a bunch of ROM threads (god, the dutty ones are full of stupid posts by stupid people), but haven't found any real answers.
How do we disable auto rotate / landscape mode in the new v3 Manila?
Is there any way of getting back the old notifications functionality where you click any of the icons along the top, and it brings up a screen with bigger icons for Notifications/Sound/Connections.
Use the old pop up menus? I am aware there's a tweak to make the 8 item menu into a 10 item. Can that hack be extended to 15 items?

If you use Dutty Extreme, then you had to enable the landscape rotate in the first place! In which case, to turn it off you just uninstall the "Dutty Enable Landscape" cab from "remove programs"

Nope, which is a real shame because the new notifications screen is USELESS! the "new text" is not the only thing that's useful to see! You can, however, disable the new notifications menu by going to the Task Manager (built into Duttys Extreme - sorry I can't help with where in the start menu it is because I've moved everything around to my own taste!) then go to Services and change the Notifications thingy to be "manual"

The thread that tells you how to get to 10 items actually meantions that these settings were just how that person had arrived at something that used the whole screen height perfectly. He explained which values change what and you should be able to adapt that to get whatever height of menu you want!
Hope that helps!

I'm using a different ROM now. I'm using the Lite one to try the speeds and the auto landscape is already cooked in. I was reading Dutty's because his ROM was the first to have it. I searched the thread where I got my ROM, but no one seems to dislike the auto rotate *shrug*. I don't mind it except in bed when I'm on my side.

Ok, I guess I'll modify the registry. Was hoping to disable it altogether as I don't find it all that pretty and it's simply bloat. On many apps, the new menus don't fit the theme at all.
Thanks for your helpful suggestions!

In that case, I suggest using AE Button to map one of the volume buttons to "rotate screen", then you can over-ride the auto-rotate on a case by case basis by rotating the screen manually. I've got it set to long press of volume up and down for rotating each way, so if something gets stuck, or as you say I'm lying down, then I can over-ride whichever way I want.

I've tried disabling the auto rotate for all programs, and while it works, it interferes with some other rotation programs. I use kaisoft's screen rotate, and when i rotate something, the orientation gets forced back to portrait a few seconds later.
I've gone back to Dutty's 1.7 ROM as it suits my needs better. I'm finding auto rotation with the new manila has not improved any more since the old gsen/gyrator days when people had tonnes of problems. It's still a hassle controlling what you want rotated.
Thanks
try this which i found somewhere in dutty's thread:
HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor
Change the autorotation key to 0
this is the only thing changed, i've not tried the above reg.
it stopped the auto-rotation for me and also solved the photo orientation bug while in camera
opera will still rotate
it works!

I agree..wot i dislike it's the sensibility of flipit. in example...it's totally impossible to drive with my tomtom in landscape e flipit on, the programm goes in landscape and portrait continuosly..very ****ting. I would know if i can set up a 2 second delay in flipit.
First off, huge LOL at '..very ****ting'
But yeah, I agree. I turn it off right away as it is far to sensitive. For example, when holding my HD reasonably flat, I don't want it to rotate at all... only when I'm holing it upright, once I lay it flat, it should stay in whatever I have it in... portrait or landscape.
I find it can get confused and mix portrait and landscape elements together and you have to wait more than a few seconds for it to sort itself out, this is a real pain, I can't see how anybody finds this useful
Right - I'm getting to grips with Flip IT and setting exceptions for programs that I dont want to flip and mostly having success... however... I can't for the life of me work out how to stop the phone dialer & call history (amongst others) to stop flippin flipping!
Where I have to enter a "class name or window text" I have put "phone" as this is the "window text" but this has no effect.. I have searched using Total Commander for an executable but cant find anything. Have seached and googled with no joy... Any suggestions welcome!!
Since I'm using Dutty's ROM (2.5), I'm trying to set up FlipIt according to my wishes... I want Manilla to rotate (works fine), but when the screen is locked (using the standard lock), I want the orientation to allow 0 degrees only. Which application should I add to the list to do this?
(by the way, I've set the default orientation to 0 degrees only, and Manilla to 0, 90 and 270 degrees. Now, when I apply the screen lock, the screen remains in the orientation it is in (being either 0, 90 or 270), but I want it to return to 0 degrees under lock)

Flip IT is in settings> system.
Open Flip IT and there is a box to "Enable GSensor"... tick this. Then you can choose to have all applications enabled by using the global function or set specific rotation angles for specific applications.
Good luck!
it's installed in the devise, enable Gsensor is cheked, a soft reset is done after install, cheked the app to rotate, redo a soft reset ..... but always not working
only the normal rotation in photo album and opera is working
EDIT: my flip it is in programmes not in settings
I don't know if this applies to all Samsung phones, or even all Android phones on Android 9, but it's infuriating to figure out if there's a sub-menu when looking at the settings menu.
For instance, I go into the Notifications Setting, and there are settings for the recent apps - say "Calendar". There is a very very faint vertical line next to the on/off button, that indicates if I press this item, I will get a lower level menu with more options.
The problem is it's very hard to see this line, and as a result I end up clicking like a fool on almost all of the menus, to see if there is a sub-level menu to get more options or not. If there isn't, I end up switching that setting off to on, or on to off... very infuriating.
This is horrible horrible user interface design. Is there a fix to this mess so it's obvious at a glance if a settings menu has additional options / menus?
