Do i notice the speed of a SD card? - Desire General

Hello,
I use a custom rom with app2sd on my desire.
But my micro sd card is a class 2 4gb.
Do i notice speed increase with a class 10 or 8 or something?
Or isn't it noticable and could i better keep using this class 2 card?
Sorry for my english!

The only speed diference I notice when using my class six over my class two is when I am transfering data to and from the phone.

[Q] SD card speed

I have been trying some roms over the last few days and experience quite a big difference in speed. Some roms lag quite a bit, especially when opening sense apps.
My question is, does this depend on the speed of the SD card? I have a class 2 now (ordered a class 10 though). Are sense apps run from the SD card or the NAND?
Yes, it depends on the speed of the SD card, as in case of custom ROMs, all the apps are usually stored on the external partition. Plus at least a class 6 card is suggested in order to avoid the lags.

I wouldn't buy a class 10 SD card for use with the Desire. Not all class 10 cards work, you best bet is class 6.

Is sense also stored on the SD card in case of custom roms? Or just the apps?

Well, ok, the class 10 has been delivered today, so I'll check it out tonight.
What kind of problems could a class 10 have in the desire? Not working at all?
Class 10 works ok as long as they are a respectable brand. Also you may want to consider installing SD Booster from market to increase deafult cache size to 1024kb or 2048kb

Performance problems, the cards not doing there proper write and read speed. Let us know how you get on with new card please
Have tried the new card. It's a Transcend 16GB Class 10. Getting about 18Mb/s sequential reads and writes in windows.
Have benched it in stock froyo on my desire with SD Tools: 14,5 MB/s write and about 8 MB/s read. Strange that the read speeds are lower. Then again, it seems that there are no reliable SD speed benchmarks on Android..

[Q] Micro SD Card questions

I just bought an Xperia Play with a free 16GB Micro SD Card (Class 6).
I also purchased a 32gb Class 4 card.
I have heard a few comments that lower class cards usually work better due to random access speeds being better than higher class cards.
e.g Class 10 cards can cause lag in apps and games.
Is anyone here using a Class 4 card and if so does it work fast enough or should I just use my 16gb class 6 card?
I use a kingston 32GB class 4 Micro SD Card. And i can't fault it. Games, emulators, apps all work just as well as the apps on my internal storage.
Thank you so much for replying to both of my questions I posted...
YOU ARE A CHAMP!
Here are the benchmarks I have posted for the class 2 that came with my Play, and the class 10 I bought:

I also have a class 4 32gb. There is no lag. Even class 2 is fast enough

[Q] Class 6 sd card + data2sd

Hey guys, I'm currently using a class 2 sd card with data2sd. My phone lags like hell because all the apps are stored in the sd card partition. I was planing to buy a class 6 card. Would that stop the lagging that is happening now? or should I go and get a even higher class?
Class 2 is way too slow for data2sd. Actually its even slow for link2sd.
Data2sd requires minimum class 6 card for average performance.
There isn't much price gap between a class 6 and a class 10 card.
If I was you, I'd go for a class 10 card even if it costs a little more. That'd be worth it.

[Q] sd card class 10 speed makes difference on speed of int2ext/m2sd scripts?

i have a kingston class 10 sd card but i feel it is not really a genuine class 10 card.. my speed on sd card tester(on market) is only 1.8mb/s write speed and 10.03mb/s read speed
my question is if i buy a true genuine sandisk micro sd class 10 card.. will it speed up my applications using int2ext/m2sd or any a2sd scripts? actually what is the speed of the internal memory of the htc desire?

I have a kingston class 10 card too. Mine writing speed is 11.6 MB/s and reading is 18.1 MB/s (measured with sd-tool app). I was using InsertCoin 1.1.4(a2sd) rom with class 4 card, after upgrading the sd card to class 10, it really improved the performance.
ok mine must be fake then! will buy a sandisk one from ebay(anyone has a good experience buying microsd on ebay.. everyone seems to say they are all fake... even the trusted buyers sell fake ones?)
AFAIK Desire supports only Class 6, so your Class 10 SD will work as 6.
You will achieve Class 10 speeds only copying with USB from PC for example.

I doubt you'd get class 10 even through the USB.
Best way to check SD card speeds is to put it in a card reader and into laptop or PC.
Checking through the HTC desire is useless as speeds can vary.
I've just tested twice with sdcard tester and got 10mbps and 3.7mbps

Yes you get full speed thru usb as it's not using Desire onboard sd controller...
If you're not getting full speed it might be ROM issue for example.

3micro sd class 4 vs 10

Planning on getting either a 32gb or 64gb depending on the price.I planned on using app2sd mod to use the micro sd as my main storage instead of the 16gb internal storage. And the micro sd card has to be in FAT32 or EXTFAT format.
1.What the real big difference between class 4 and 10? Beside the price? Is class 10 speed much noticeable or just a minor improvement from class 4?
2.Since i plan on using this as my main storage. Will opening app/games, playing music, viewing video/picture and saving picture on a class 10 be a lot faster than class 4? Also how about coping the files from pc to sd card? Any difference?
3.What brand would you recommend? Is there a difference between a sandisk class 10 and lexar class 10 beside the price?
4.What format do micro sd card come in? If it not FAT32 or EXTFAT, can i change it to FAT32 or EXTFAT?
1. Speed. Class 10 has much faster r/w speeds.
2. Not sure how big a difference itll be. Read speeds should be good enough on either for apps. Its hd video and such that will require higher write speeds though.
3. Dont much care for sandisk oersonally. But I think theyre the only ones offering 64gb. Never tried lexar but Samsung memory has always been the best for me. Jus make sure you trust the seller.
4. FAT32, for most. ExFAT for 64gb. Yes you can reformat.
