Sim-Lock option in Bootloader - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see there is a sim-lock option in boot loader, does that mean we can do a sim unlock via adb?

Again, wrong section. This should be in Q&A.
The only way to unlock the phone is through an unlock code, obtainable from T-Mobile or 3rd party unlocking companies.

So what does simlock do then?

It locks your sim card so that you have to enter a pin number every time you reboot the phone. If you enter it wrong, the phone wont make calls.

Manual sim unlock? (w/o paying anyone)

A quick question.
Is there any way to network unlock the xperia play manually, I mean without paying for an unlock code. I've searched google & xda a lot but can't find much on the topic. (This likely means that it can't be done, I know)
But I ask anyway cause I sim unlocked my sister's Galaxy Ace & that was sooo easy, I'm just surprised that it can't be done on the xperia play.
/noob.
All responses appreciated!
No there isn't, contact your network they may do it for free... Unlocking your bootloader also unlocks your sim.

Unlocking your bootloader does not unlock your sim, that's nonsense.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.
Much appreciated.
I heard that it doesn't unlock the sim, I read up on it before posting here cause I'd seen some people posting that it unlocked the sim as well.

No it does not unlock your sim, You obviously don't know what you're talking about.
unlocking bootloader doesnt mean unlocked sim butt yes my sim was unlocked when i unlocked my bootloader through through ominus, it came for free as an extra
Those who say it does, wanna cite a source? Rather than just saying "it does"
Sorry for the confusion, the paid method of unlocking your bootloader does unlock your sim lock - which is why i suggested it(wasn't telling you something irrelevant) , the free method via the sony website does not.
EDIT- http://unlock-bootloader.com/ This websites owned by one of the two people who do unlock bootloader and it says under bootloader unlock it's included with the sim unlock.

Ah I see, thanks.
How do these guys do it? Do they have some kind of hardware tools or inside track? It's just weird to me that we can't unlock the sim ourselves when you can do nearly everything else with phones these days!
They use a software called SEtool or omnius, they have to pay for credits(which are only sold in bundles and so would be wasteful and expensive for somebody unlocking just their bootloader) to use the software which is why they charge you the equivalent- they dont make anything or make little from offering the service.
if it's just sim unlock and you don't want to unlock bootloader and fastboot then you can try here if your phone is At&t :http://sim-unlock.net/sim-lock/99/Unlock_by_code_any_Sony_Ericsson_network_AT&T_USA/
The cost is around $6 USD

That's fair enough. But you paid to get your bootloader unlocked right?
I see how you can easily make the correlation.

How to check if phone is unlocked?

Isn't there a source code that you can dial? And if there isn't, I'm just gonna try my friends at&t sim.

No only way to check if you're unlocked is to use a non carrier sim card. And you must be stock ROM.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Well to be fair... If he's unlocked using a custom ROM wouldn't matter. You would only need the stock ROM to have the unlock code prompt to pop up right?

There is a way, on the phone dialer dial *#7465625#
network lock should be OFF is unlocked, ON is locked

Actually it does, if his phone is still locked, and he's on a custom ROM, when he powers his phone on. No prompt will come up saying to unlock. However once it's booted with non carrier sim card, he can go under system settings more network providers. And if a whole bunch of numbers come up, like no actual carrier names, then it's still locked.

That doesn't work for me on cm9. I get invalid mmi code. But it's prolly cause of my custom ROM. Thanks for the info!

I meant if he puts in an att Sim and that it's already unlocked, it would have signal and would work. If he's not then yeah lol.

[Q] UNLOCK

TMO just sent me my unlock code. I bought a St8 Talk sim card. Put it in and it is not asking to enter the unlock code. How do I input this code?

Instructions should have come with the unlock code.
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your Samsung device. Please be advised a non T-Mobile SIM card MUST be used to unlock this device.
1. Insert a NON T-Mobile SIM & turn Device on
2. The Device will automatically prompt you to enter code into an empty field.
3. Click/Tap in the empty field above the "Unlock & Dismiss" options (this will display a key pad on the screen).
4. Using the key pad input the Unlock Code provided by T-Mobile.
5. Press the Back button to remove the keyboard from screen.
6. Click/Tap the "Unlock" option; handset should display "Network Unlock Successful".
Please note that if you are unlocking a flip device please use steps 1, 2, 3 and 6.

Is the straight talk SIM T-Mobile or att? If it's T-Mobile I don't think you need to be unlocked.

Pre-paid SIM Worked Without Unlock Code?

I got an unlock code from AT&T, but I was never prompted to enter it after putting an H2O Wireless SIM card in my GS3. I'm able to place/receive calls and get data after entering APN settings.
My phone is rooted, but I didn't think it was already unlocked. Maybe I missed something. Any ideas? Thanks..

Did you buy the phone from someone else or an official retailer brand new in the box? If the former, someone may have already unlocked it. Otherwise did you perform the JB unlock method via the services menu?

Prepaid or postpaid... They all work as long as they are same phone service provider. Try a different network n see if that works.
Its a network lock, not a service/plan lock.

I guess that explains it, since H2O uses AT&T's network.

[Q] Will Restoring Factory Settings remove Sim Unlock?

Just upgraded and getting ready to sell my Note 2. I got the unlock code from T-mobile a while back and used it to sim unlock the device. If I completely wipe the device and restore the device back to factory settings will it still be sim unlocked? I want to put "carrier unlocked" on the ebay listing but only if I can verify that this is actually the case.
Do not worry, Phone will stay unlocked.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Sim unlock is permanent and will not be affected by resets to factory, rooting, or ROMing.
