Android on i900 Omnia - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi,
I'm looking for an Android ROM for the Omnia i900.
Could you recommend me an Rom?
Would you switch from Windows Mobile to Android?
I've flashed my Omnia and never before wonder if Android and Windows Mobile both can run on the Omnia?

Ok, i found http://andromnia.net/, but you cant use either the phone or the camera or Bluetooth...
Furthermore, the project has already been stopped early last year, and been unstable.
But there is no alternative
Can not anybody take the difficulty to bring out a working Android-ROM for the Omnia?
I believe that many more people would like to have a ROM for the Omnia, in my German forum every day someone asks for an Android ROM for the Omnia.
I do not know if it is possible, but could someone make a ROM for the Omnia from the ROMs for the HD2 or Desire?
Everyone who is looking after an Android ROM for the Omnia can answer here.

Hey,
I would like to have Android on the Omnia.
Would actually run a ROM for another device, For example a HD2, on the Omnia?

HP iPAQ HX4700 WM6.1 ROM Reviews *ONLY*

Hi All,
After reading some posts I thought it would be a nice topic to start which only has WM6.1 ROM reviews for the HX4700. This way it's easier to see which ROM would be the best for your personal taste. So please only place reviews here and no questions or anything else
Moderators perhaps making this a sticky will be helpful so it's always ontop and easy to spot?
Thanks!
My review of Andy's v1g based on 5.2.19949 (Build 19949.1.2.0), posted 26-6-2008.
Running this ROM since 27 June and sofar very happy with it.
It gives me a free RAM of 34 MB after soft reset and after working for a while drops to 30 MB and stays there while idle. (Running VGAKEY + Wisbar advance v3 + NotesToday in the background only)
Speed is OK and indeed faster then the WM2003SE I had installed for 2 years.
Only drawback is the filesys.exe kicking in now and again, which made the PDA hang twice now. Soft reset made it run again. First time it hang due to installing software onto the device rather then the SD card. Second time was after using PIE. (Note that i've changed the paths of PIE to my SD card now and it did not hang anymore after using the internet)
BT and WiFi are working stable and OK. Infrared still not working in Total Commander CE. (Get "Error in function "socket": function not supported!" Contacted Tcmd support on the error and hopefully the developer can tell me more about what is wrong. (Andy fixed the missing irdatsk.dll, yet still missing the irdastk.dll on my PDA....)
Please note did not test infrared using Beam. (Other posters reported infrared not working on their side using other tools.)
Progs/shortcuts installed in ROM:
[*].NET Compact 3.5
[*]ActiveSync
[*]Calculator
[*]Calendar
[*]Contacts
[*]File Explorer
[*]Games (Solitaire, Bubble Breaker)
[*]Getting Started
[*]Help
[*]How do I
[*]HP Image Zone
[*]iTask
[*]ModemIS
[*]Notes
[*]Office Mobile (Excel,Word Powerpoint)
[*]Pictures & Videos
[*]PIE
[*]Search
[*]Task Manager
[*]Tasks
[*]Terminal Services Client
[*]Windows Media Player
Kozhura & Andy: thanks for the rom. First ROM I used on my HX4700 and a happy start it gave me
Cheers.

going to get S620 this week, 2 questions.

Well, i just bought a htc s620 / excalibur yesterday. (i think, i'm going to receive it within this week, maybe).
I still got two questions :
1. is there a nameable difference between the official wm6 (offered from thc, already upgraded on the one i bought) ad wm 6.1 (except, that wm6.1 now has the home-panel?) - so, is there a NEED to upgrade to wm6.1?
and:
2. how can i create themes for this one? can i simply create wm6-qvga-landscape-themes for windows mobile ppc (using theme maker x) or is there any better program out, which supports qvga smartphones? or does the theme-style (sp-qvga / ppc-qvga) even matter anyway?

To answer the first question, i would upgrade to the new 6.1, its really awesome. Also, it includes many nice features like threaded texting, etc. And regarding the second question, i never really tried creating themes because the new 6.1 is loaded with nice themes.
ppc themes as far as I know won't work with a landscape device..they either won't load or will come out distorted...a good program with a lot of custom landscape themes is Facade from SBSH...they have a trial (14 day i believe) and a pay version (not too expensive) and before I upgraded to 6.1 I use to use it a lot...it'll work with 6.1.
Yep - you will definitely want to upgrade to the WM6.1 ROM. No matter what cooked ROM you use, the basic improvements to 6.1 over 6 are numerous with things like PIE copy & paste and zoom in and out and customizable home page. I personally don't use the sliding panel home screen but many love it.

Oh yah the copy and paste feature is awesome
well, i will keep thinking of a possible upgrade to 6.1 (but, i think, i will keep the pre-installed WM6, because it is shipped in german, and i already have an english x50v with 6.1, and as it's a smartphone, i'd like to keep it my native language).
And as for themes : is the theming still divided in color-theme and bakground-image (which can be put sinlge in as well to any existing theme, as it was in SP2003SE) - i was using a voq professional for now.
if that's the way, SP-Themes work, i may "only" have to create qvga-landscape-images and that's all.
but only, if i can still edit the internal colors / colorsheme with V2R home screen editor. (i think, it's nearly the same app, as homeEdit is, which i used for theming on the voq.).
And as i also have the mentionned Dell Axim x50v (mostly always near me, as i use it as mp3-player), i have a pda, with which i go online, if there's a free spot around. So there may be no real need to go online whith this SP, so I may use it only the way it is - as a phone, for appointments/reminders and a few games.

Acer n50 : Upgrading WM or install Android

Hello everyone!
I have here a quite old (well, perhaps not so "old") PDA, an Acer n50, and I'd like to improve it.
I have seen recently that great people have been able to port Android onto Windows Mobile designed PDAs and smartphones. I even have seen a youtube video guy able to start (just start) Linux on a n50 back in 2007.
So finally my question is : do you think it is possible to install/run a reasonably recent version of Android on this Acer n50? If not or if difficult, can it be possible to install/run a more recent version of Windows Mobile on it? (but honestly, I have a much greater estime towards Android ). I would also like to have some help to achieve this. I have already searched the net for this and Android's developer pages, but I have not found this kind of information or I simply got lost.
I am not a hacker. In fact, I don"t have any experience in this at all. I just know how to fiddle in the console to launch some stuff and have the least of the basics.
Here are the Acer n50's specifications :
Constructor : Acer
Screen : Backlit Color
Touch screen : Yes
Resolution : TFT LCD Screen, 65 536 colors, 240 x 300 pixels
Microprocessor / Frequency : Intel PXA272 at 312 MHz
Operating System : Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
Memory : 128 Mo de RAM, 64 Mo de ROM
Wireless connection : IrDA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11b
Audio/vidéo functionnalities : Audio system with integrated speaker and microphone, headset plug
Integrated basic applications : Microsoft Pocket Outlook, Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, MSN Messenger, Windows Media Player 9, Internet Explorer, Calculator, File Explorer, Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7.1, Pictures, Games
Extension port : Accepts SD cards, MMC, CompactFlash
Power : Lithium-ion polymer rechargeable battery
Dimensions (l x p x h) in mm : 120 x 70 x 17,4 mm
Weight in grams : 150 g
Thank you by advance for your help and far by advance.... your patience.
64mb ram is too little for windows mobile 6.5 but someone just did the impossible so you might ask them to cook one for you providing they have the hardware.

Acer n50 never got WM5 upgrade, so there is NO chance for any upgrade from WM2003SE.
To cook a WM6.5 ROM for a device at least WM5 ROM is required as they share almost the same kernel.
There are several posts on the net in french and english about this WM5 upgrade from Acer for n50. But the download link to it seems blocked now by login restrictions or dead links.
Up to now, the up-to-date repository for Acer n50 is this : ftp.support.acer-euro.com/handheld/n50/ there is no rom in there so right now there is no upgrade in fact.
So, as the upgrade for n50 was just vapor or has disappeared mysteriously, is there a way I could install WM5 (through a rom or whatever way that can be possible) over WM2003SE? I have read some people would try this without being sure if it is possible.
By the way, do you think it can also be possible to have the system in french in 5 or 6.5 in someway?
Thank you for your help.
I think that Acer n50 WM5 ROM never existed or maybe Acer made it, but never released it.
As there is no WM5 ROM for n50, there's nothing you can do.
ROMs are device specific, so that means you can't use any other device ROM.
System in french would only be possible if there would be a WM5 ROM.
All right so all possibilities are getting restrained then.
So, two last questions :
Could there be a way for me to install Windows Mobile 5 on this Acer (I guess not otherwise you would already have told me)? It looks weird that people are able to cook WM6.x and not WM5...
Can it be possible to install a version of Android on this PDA?
Too bad it cannot be possible to try to improve this device like it could be for some little bit old computers...

People are able to cook WM6.x because they have a WM5 to use as base. That means if device does not have a WM5, there is no chance for a cooked WM6.x ROM.
You must find a WM5 ROM for n50, that's your only chance.

Basically it's possible, but someone must make it. But I don't think that it will ever happen.
All right then, thank you for your answers.

Is Video enabled skype coming to WM 6.1?

Does anyone know if this new video enabled version of Skype is being ported to Windows Mobile (6.1) devices like the Touch Pro? Any timeframe.
Thanks,
Joe
Skype for Windows Mobile is not supported anymore ...
certainly not.
why?
because winmo 6.1 is purely and simply dead.
because winmo 6.5 is also in the graveyard with his little brother.
because skype has made already an end to this both plateform.
hahah hardly
wm6.x is hardly dead. is much more versatile than i-app-phone or goo-OS app crap...
Skype is losing revenue because there will be many that wont switch to limited os app based garbage.
cell phones in general are becoming dead in the beginnings of losing like landlines were 10 years ago... and there are other voip alternatives. you just have to look for them.
Salt at all, someone can tell me if there is a link to download a version of Skype running on a Samsung i900 Omnia with windows mobile 6.1 pro.
thank you for your interest.
Hi yann73 , in yahoo or in google search for "skype windows mobile" , look for the link that says "Skype Windows Mobile ... v3.0.0.256" , download file from a trustworthy site.
There are two types of files out there, one is a cab, another is exe, same version. Get the "exe" version.
Connect your Windows Mobile phone with your windows (pc/desktop/laptop) computer thru ActiVeSync type of sync software.
then run/execute the 'exe' version installer, it will install necessary stuff in ur computer first, then rightaway it will start to transfer+install inside ur Phone.
In my experience, i wasnt able to make the cab version worked on Phone, but the exe version when installed in Phone sync connection then it worked, ur experience may vary.
If audio doesnt work properly then you will also need the "WM Audio Redirector.zip" or AudioRoute, a free soft, search here in xda-dev.
As below phones are similar to mine, it should work on all of them : HTC Touch Diamond, Touch Diamond2, Touch HD, Touch HD2, Touch 3G, Mogul/Titan 6800, Kaiser / TyTN II , P4550 & Samsung Omnia i900.
That will allow to use Audio & Text chat . No Video chat support on that version of skype , unless some1 makes a VideoRoute software for it, like AudioRoute.

[q] is there anyway to use two os in defy?

HI EVERYONE
IS THERE ANY WAY TO USE TWO OS IN DEFY?
I MEAN WM7 AND ANDROID OS !
THE POINT IS IF YOU CAN LAUNCH EACH OS AT WHAT THEY GOT YOU CAN UNLIMITEDLY USE DIFFERENT TYPE OF GAMES AND THEMES AND MULTI USE ONCE .
EVEN DEFY HAS ALL THE GREAT POWER TO USE THEM AT ONCE.
Since the Bootloader is still locked, I don't really think it works. After all, the only device I know can run both Android and WM7 is HTC HD2 which seem like supported by HTC.
HI SWAT AXEL
NO, THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE. WINDOWS MOBILE DEVICES CAN RUN ANDROID, BUT NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND. A WINDOWS MOBILE OS CAN'T BE USED ON AN ANDROID PHONE BECAUSE OF IT'S HARDWARE, IT JUST WORKS ON WINDOWS DEVICES.
that would be nice
thanks for reply , but if you have checked (cydia)in iphone it has (fake os) feature that allows to use android , and i still believe there is a way.
i hope we can reach that point.
Yes, I would also love it to work, but in an other forum I read that that's not possible (sorry, I don't have the link right now) because of the hardware.
But who knows, maybe a dev can do that with a trick or so.
(I clicked accidentaly the "thanks" button, I hope it does't annoy you )
