Problem with Keyboard Backlight with Froyo / Gingerbread - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Android Development

I tried to find a solution with the Board Search, but I had no result (just something for WinMobile).
When I slide my Kaiser, the backlight of the keyboard is just on for a short moment. I tried it several times, If I slide it not complete, the illumination will stay. The illumination just stops, when the device slides completely.
If I slide the device several times directly one after the other, the backlight stays each time for a different time after the device is slides completely.
I Tried it now with several Android builts. Does anybody has an idea how I can fix this issue or is this a normal issue and I have to live with it?

The keyboard backlight kicks on the moment the switch orientation "button" is hit by the keyboard slider. The backlight then stays lit for a pre-determined time (about 1-2seconds)

Thanks for the fast answer, but I couldn't agree. The orientation of the screen changes directly when I start to slide the phone (after approx 3mm). The Backlight starts at the same time. When I didn't slide compleate (as mentioned above) the backlight will stay until I finished the slide.
Is there a possibility to change the pre-determined time (the light is on)?

Some time ago, I thought it would be clever to make the backlight sensitive to the ambient light sensor, so that the backlight wouldn't be turned on if the room is bright. Unfortunately, the light sensor is too sensitive, so it keeps the keypad backlight off except when the room is very dark.
I have fixed this only one or two days ago. When l1q1d builds the next 2.6.32 kernel, it will have the corrected backlight.
If you are talking about a different kernel than 2.6.32, I don't know the status of the driver. I'm solely using 2.6.32 myself.

Thank you very much for the helpful feedback, n2rjt!
I use another kernel from this source:
http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/files/?C=M;O=D
I found it over the forum search. Will the bug be also fixed in the kernel I can download over the link in your signature or do I have to wait until the kernel is updated? I will try using this kernel!

Hum, learn something new every day, I did not know that our phones 'had' an ambient light sensor?

EVO Button LEDS not working

I am OMJ's Rom on my EVO rooted with toasts method plus the radio update and the led's under the front buttons are not working. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an app that controls them that was removed?
The lights will be off when the phone is plugged in and charging.
When exactly are the lights under the four soft buttons supposed to be on?
On my EVO (novatec 003, stock) I have noticed an inconstancy in when they light up. Sometimes they light up when I unlock my phone, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they turn on later, sometimes they don't turn on at all.
This doesn't seem normal to me. What are other's experience with this?
Thanks
they are controled with the light sensor and should be on in low light situations and off in bright lights. you can test this by covering the light sensor to the right of the HTC logo on top of the device.
Thank you @peepeesea that was it exactly. Which is more hi-tech that I gave them credit for.
Also as a side note, since I've been reading the xda forums I feel like a phone hypochondriac. Everythings broken!!

Light Sensor Inaccurate

Hi,
My automatic brightness was not working properly so i downloaded sensor test. The sensor works fine but it cuts in and out.
It keeps switching from 10/10 to the real value than back to 10/10.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Was working fine before i installed cyano
Thanks
Bumping this as I have a similar problem.
The sensor doesn't seem to recognise any light values between 10 and 300-350, it either says it's pitch dark or that I'm outdoors (checked with two different light sensor apps). I'm using the stable release of CM7.
It's causing problems with automatic brightness obviously, as I can only adjust the settings to either have a dimmed screen during the day, or have my eyes burnt out when it's actually pitch dark.
Any ideas?
CM7 has settings for auto brightness and it actually works. They're in the CM settings.
I've got a bog stock Desire running 2.2 and according to Sensor Test, the light sensor doesn't work at all!
Sometimes this has happend to me in CM7... but I reset the levels then it was working gud....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003592
you can check this thread where all the levels are explained in detail for CM7
CM7 has its own brightness levels... but they are somewhat slow to update. I've tried changing their values - but it only helps a bit.
I must say that I was testing it indoors... not outdoors.

Help: Function Buttons Still Bright after Screen-off

I'm currently on cm72-111128.2017-NIGHTLY-Defy.
Everything works fine except that recently I notice sometimes after I turn off the screen with power button the four function buttons are still bright (technically it's three b/c the search button seemed to be broken a week ago). And that might be the reason that occasionally the battery drains too fast.
My ways to solve the issue: 1) reboot; 2) go to Device settings - Button brightness and adjust the brightness level to whatever level and then back to the previous level you've set.
I know this might be a bug. Anyone has some idea to fix it? Our hero Epsylon3 has been devoted him to porting ICS and I'm afraid he won't have much time to care CM7.

Soft Touch Button Lights

So I can't seem to figure out why the Soft Touch Button are on, or mostly not on on the One X.
In a dark room they are not usually on, run some app or open something on the phone and they seem to activate.
Anyone else getting this??
They should activate/deactivate depending on the amount of surrounding light.
Tested it myself, with a flashlight on the phone the lights went of. When I removed the flashlight and back in the dark, the lights turned on.
Yes, I got the same result as Foggy79. I just want to know if I can turn if off manually?
Probably not (maybe with a custom ROM, but I doubt that)
I wanna know how to turn them off. When watching a video in the dark.... they stay on, when they should turn off when video is being played full screen.

Use this Rom :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625816
With PKMN Tweaks integrated in this rom, you can control soft key led back light :
* Always on
* Always off
* Turn on when the dim light, turn off when strong light

would rather not go flashing roms to get this.
And how would the tweak help? either it's always on, always off or the last option which would keep the lights on under dim conditions.
What they need to do is add a timeout. like on the Galaxy series phones. 2 seconds or 7 seconds. then it shuts off, when you touch the screen it turns on again.
It's just bad designing and/or programming.

That'sa great idea, which I can't believe I didn't think of. I have been having the opposite problem: the soft key lights always stay on. However, when I held up the phone to a bright light, they turned off. So, they are working.
Still, it takes a really bright light to achieve this; I wish I could fine tune the behavior. I tried an app that stated it would control the keys but it did not work (and my phone is not rooted).
I also see in ancola66's post that the custom ROM allows automatic dimming only in "strong light," so apparently the behavior I am seeing is normal. I wish it would take less strong light to activate dimming/off as my lights never seem to go off, as I stated.
Thanks for these informative posts.
Reading in bed with Aldiko
It mostly annoys me when I'm reading in bed with Aldiko. Aldiko is a great reading app that lets you adjust the lights the phone emits to the lowest possible, so I can read in the dark without disturbing my wife.
However, on this phone I have the keys glaring in my eyes, way brighter than the letters of my book.
I wish I could switch them off somehow.
I thought the soft lights will only turn on when phone is in dark place? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Exactly.. That sucks when lying in bed reading next to your beloved.. It should only light when touching the screen like the s3..I don't need those lights when I sit and read a book or something

There are ways to disable them. Mostly(maybe a must) if you are ROOTED.
Apps that ppl said that were able to shut them off were screenfilter or how its called. Search through the forums here.
Or you can edit the framework-res file to disable them on sense roms. If Interested I will search it from here somewhere.
Or for CM check my signature (there are 2 lines, not the one about the UV...)
They annoy me too. I recently began watching some videos in bed (streaming from desktop) because I temporarily gave away my laptop. They are very bright in the dark, I wish there was an option to turn them off permanently (yes, I know it's possible with custom ROMs, but I'm still not ready to root yet).
Also, the display is still too bright for my taste - lowest brightness should be lower. Although it's pretty good compared to other screens. In my opinion, the lowest brightness is also very important, just as max. brightness.

Light sensor and proximity sensor issues

Hello guys,
Reading around this seems to be a rather common issue among lg g2, lg g3 and lg g4 users.
the first one regards the light sensor. In relatively light environments, the light sensor value is too low, leading to the screen turning off soon after hitting the power botton and disabling the double tap. The same thing happens when you cover the sensor with the finger and is meant to be active while in our pockets, which is great, but the problem itself is very annyoing.
Initially I thought this was due to a software problem, but after performing a kdz reset on KK (from lollipop) I can assume that it has nothing to do with the OS.
The problem seems to diseappear soon after the reboot, but reappearing shortly after and it appeared later in the life of the phone, it worked fine for a long time.
But the first issue to appear to is the proximity sensor issue. Most of the time it is set to "near" even though there is nothing covering it. I opened the phone, cleaned it, hard resetted but still nothing. no solution seems to be effective. Of course this is very annoying during phonecalls and this is also disabling the double tap feature.
In a normal room situation during the evening with the light turned on and my body projecting a shadow over the phone, proximity: "near" and lightsensor: "2"
The combination of these 2 problems is making my experience with the G3 very unpleasant.
I don't who builds sensors for LG but they are not doing a great job!
So if you have the same problem you are not alone!
some tricks that I "learned" in order to overcome these problems are.
1) Light sensor:
- point the device towards a light source to unlock the device
- repeatedly press volume up after pressing power button to prevent screen turning off
2) proximity sensor
- reboot the phone before a phonecall
- running a device test through 3845#*855# (international version of the phone)
- using bluetooth systems during calls
- using headphones
If somebody has additional suggestions to provide me and the others please share.
Thanks!
