Few things. As clavoi said, make sure you have the proper hboot drivers installed. You can find them on the unrevoked website where it says "more info".
here are instructions on how to properly install the drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787304
those instructions are a little old, but they are still the correct procedure, I just did this last weekend for my brother in law's evo, just make sure you have the correct drivers from the Unrevoked site itself. Also, be sure that anything that communicates with your phone via usb is uninstalled or disabled. (htc sync, dropbox, pda net, etc, anything that can/will communicate). Also disable your antivirus.
I just did this last weekend and it worked great. Try again after your sure you have the drivers installed correctly and that no programs are trying to talk to your phone during this process. Report back on your progress man

Folks, i'll make sure i have the correct drivers loaded once i get home today, thanks for the heads up on this.
i will report back once i do.

Folks, i just loaded my hboot drivers last night and then tried running unrevoked and got the following message:
Failed to unlock nand flash.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

What hardware version?

Hi all,
I have managed to downgrade from android 2.2 to 2.1update1, and bootloader .92 down to .80.
However I still am not able to root this phone, I have tried many different methods and am now at a loss as i don't know what i am doing wrong...?!
When running unrevoked 3.14 the process seems to go thru ok until the message appears waiting for phone to reboot, then i get the error attached...
"communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. try again"
Drivers are installed as pictured in the attached as well.
any help would be great... please don't tell me to go an read the forums I have spent days doing this and have been unsuccessful...

The simplest way: get a RUU, reflash, get unrevoked 3.21, root again. Works got most cases.

Can't Root using unrEVOked

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776696&page=29 following this thread i installed the HBoot drivers and then i started unrEVOked 3.14.
It booted into console, then i rebooted again but after then the software on my PC gave me error message "unable to push recovery image to flash" .. ..
- I do change the USB mode
- I have HBoot drivers installed
- I have HTC Sync installed
- I am on Windows 7
- I am using HTC Desire Froyo
Remove HTC Sync.
You need it's drivers, but if you leave it installed it might get in the way.
Uninstalling will not remove the required drivers.
I think...

I followed the guide already and i posted the question after following the guide. it stucks and give me the error that i posted abov.e
i get the same error, so this is a valid topic.
there is Nothing that gives us any information about what else to try, bar sitting and waiting for the rEVOked client to be updated.
The latest version of unrEVOked is up. I tried to root my Desire through it. It rebooted my device couple of times (with previous versions I used to get error at 1st boot).
Now, I am getting this error Backup CID is missing.
Can someone guide?
latest revoked worked fine for me
3.21 sorted all the issues i was having.
Yep, the old unrEVOked (3.14) doesn't support FroYo...get 3.21 and you'll be fine

Use that guide. If it doesn't work ( as for me ) use Linux with a Ubuntu live CD. Worked first time for.me.
Windows is crap. Too many things to go wrong that wont be obvious making you sound like a idiot.
Direct link. http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/gen...esire-wildfire-evo-incredible-with-unrevoked/
Worked first time in W7 x64 Ultimate when I did it with the RC
I have the same windows and latest unrEVOked but it didn't work. It gave me error Backup CID missing
Hmmm,
I have just tried to root my Desire using unrevoked 3 and it seems to go throught the motions but ends on an "internal error couldn't find misc" error message......
I am running a stock O2 Froyo Desire with HBoot .93.......Any ideas?
Try connecting your android in USB storage mode and debugging mode.
My first try gave me the same "internal error: couldn't find misc".
But with the above settings I was able to root my HTC Desire. Thanks unrevoked!
Hi,
A noobie questions.
I have Froyo 2.2 with HBoot .92 and i want to use unrEVOked tool, but before that my sd card has to be empty, or have to format it?
And after i use unrEVOked, i have to flash any custom rom?
Thanx
@ iamtotal, I already have it with those settings... Are you running Froyo?
@ pekas, no you do not have to use a blank sdcard.

Ok, so I have a Win7 x64 box, and have all the corect drivers loaded for my phone.
If I run unrEVOked I get the above error message......So my next step was to run in Virtual XP mode to see if maybe it was a X64 issue....Still the same error.....
Last night I reset my phone to factory defaults and re-ran unrEVOked.....No joy....So after trawling through more forum posts I came across how to run unrEVOked from an Ubuntu live cd.....So I downloaded and burnt off the live cd, ran the script as specified (really neat and easy to use BTW) to get the latest version of unrEVOked and run it.......Guess what......Still the SAME error message......Methinks maybe something screwy with the O2 version of Froyo?
Anyone else had the same issue? Are running an O2 rom?
I am stuck with the same error since the beginning. No success, with all the possible tries. I am not sure what version my FroYo is .. O2 or something but its EU region specific.
Bottom line is .. I can't root my Desire .. :|

Power off then hold volume down and power to enter bootloader and tell us what HBOOT version you have. That is what is needed to tell you which way to root.

Follow these instructions. They are very easy and quick. Itll take you like 15 minutes and that is if your new to all this. the worst part is installing the drivers so pay close attention to that part or it'll be a PITA.
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
Then flash this like a regular rom through your recovery
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever.zip
Also I would use the rom manager and install amon-ra recovery immediately after rooting and perform a backup. (amon-ra is my personal fav)
Good luck and have a GR-8 Day. any more questions just post em and I will answer if I can.
and just to confirm..... with hboot 2.02

I have not used like a boss or any other way to root 2.02. From the EVO webchat this is what you should use for 2.02
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765496
Main Version is older! Update Fail!
Instead of posting a new thread I figured I'd just add on to this one. I'm trying to root my Evo.
Hardware version 0002 (only difference from the original poster's)
Android version 2.2
Baseband version 2.15.00.09.01
Software Number 3.29.651.5
Kernel Version 2.6.32.15
Build number 3.29.651.5
HBOOT version is 0.97.0000
I was trying to use the Unrevoked method that animal posted earlier. When I hold power and volume down the evo goes to that white screen, but when it starts doing the initial checking it finishes with:
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
<VOL UP> YES
<VOL DOWN> NO
I just continued on doing the method anyway but when I ran the .exe file it said something it said something about a failed recovery image and the process was terminated. I'm sure the Main Version is older! is the real problem. Any solutions or help would be great thanks.
I want to root my phone also, Just got it a couple days ago and my Hboot shows 2.02.. HELP! What route can i take.

Did you goto www.unrevoked.com and download the files from there? There are alot of older files floating around and you get the latest ones from their website. Follow their instructions and you shouldn't run into any problems. It sounds like you have an old PC36IMG.zip file on the root of your sd card that bootloader is finding. Delete it and follow unrevoked instructions.

Use Hboot 2.02 Like A Boss method in the developers section.
Hi, I just got my EVO a few days ago and I also have HBOOT 0.97.00... I was able to successfully install the Windows 7 drivers and follow the instructions on the unrevoked3 site listed a few posts back. Everything looked ok and at one point it said "it is a huge success" or something along those lines..
But after the reboot, it went into the clockwork mod recovery I think and proceeded to try to do something an received a bunch of error messages stating "incorrect radio" or something along those lines along with a few other error messages..
I rebooted after that and tried to go into Titanium Backup and found out whatever it did, did NOT root my phone.
Is there something I needed to do to my SD card to prep before running the unrevoked method? Also, when I go into HBOOT, it checks for some PCDIAG file (hard to read b/c it flashes it very fast) and says it's not found... is this normal?
Sorry for the ignorance - I'm trying to catch up with everything here. Thanks in advance!

Ok, weird thing.. I installed MyBackup Pro and it said that my phone was rooted and would I like to use the advanced features.... so maybe it's rooted but I still can't uninstall the bloatware? Is that the NAND access that I've read about?
Ok, just ran the Unrevoked again.. it looks like I'm rooted, but for whatever reason, I can't remove the bloatware system apps. Everything runs the way it's supposed to until I boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery..
Where the error messages start is here:
Verifying system type...
E:unsupported radio version
E:Update failed. Check /sdcard/soff.log
E:Error in /data/local/unrevoked-forever.zip (Status 42)
Installation aborted.
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
Any ideas??
Ok, for some reason, some apps that are requiring root work, but I still can't uninstall the system app bloatware. Then when I try to mount the \system through ADB, it says permission denied.
I tried to install Titanium Backup and it said my phone wasn't rooted.
At this point, I have no idea if I'm rooted or partially rooted or what.
This sucks...
I would seriously pay somebody to fix this for me. No joke.. I'm about to smash this GD phone against the floor.

how about the painless flash and root did that one not work for you either?
I'm a little confused on which one you are talking about. I went to unrevoked.com, selected the Evo, and then it said Unrevoked 3 and Unrevoked Forever. I did the first option. That one gave me the failed recovery message.

[[SOLVED]] Please help anyone, please, I can't flash and can't get past white screen

Turns out I had to downgrade to be able to upgrade. I downgraded back to 2.1 and then flashed Myns ROM over that and all is right again. What a pain in the neck.
Help, help help.
I searched, I followed a number of other threads on this issue, installed busybox manually, nothing is helping. Please please please please help.
My old evo got stolen. I got a new one today. I was able to root, but i keep seeing the same error every time I try to flash Myn's ROM, please anyone help. I've downloaded the RLS 4 file from both mirrors, it's fine. I flash it and I get the following error:
E:cant symlink /system/xbin/[
E:failure at line 15:
symlink busybox system:xbin:[
install aborted.
I have:
S-OFF
HBOOT-2.02.0000
Radio 2.15.00.09.01
I am using Amon-RA recovery and all seems to be fine UNTIL I try to flash the RLS4 Myn ROM.
I can't get past the symlink errors. I have followed numerous threads' advice on correcting the error and even have verified that ls -al shows all the correct symlinks. Anyone please help. Is there more than one busybox to install?
I found two and don't know which one is correct:
busybox which is 523k
busybox which is 719 k in the Autoroot zip.
PLEASE, I'm desperate, anyone please help me get this installed.
Thank you in advanced.
Which Aman Ra are you using?? You must have 1.9 if your hboot 2.02, 1.8 won't work. IF you have 1.9, why don't you try a different rom to see if it loads and then put the one on you want after you test it. If you need 1.9 I believe you can find it in the Fly a Kite root method.

thank you for the response, I did a search for fly a kite root method and can't find it anywhere, can you point me in the right direction to find this?
Thank you in advance.
I did some searching, this thread was updated and I had to use google OUTSIDE of XDA to find it as it was renamed. it's now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
and says very specifically:
UPDATE: If your radio is 2.15.00.11.19 this will not work. Some people says it does if you run the official ruu (which is in the unroot portion of this guide) So if you want to try it.
So, I'm trying the official ruu. I have root, but nothing else seems to work. IF anyone can offer some more advice, I would be very grateful.
PLEASE someone help. When I try to use the official RUU in the post above I get to the part where it says i have less than 30% battery and won't update. I KNOW I don't have less than 30% battery, I looked at the battery in another device and it's fully charged.
I can't get ANYTHING to work on this thing, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me flash a ROM, I only get to the white evo screen and recovery is NOT working, what do I do?
PLEASE anyone help.

Just make sure that once you're unrooted, you don't take the OTA (unless you don't care about getting rooted again) There is currently no root exploit for the new OTA.
