On my Hero, I had Amon Ra recovery flashed on my phone and it had a background. Specifically a Care Bear (LOL).
I was wondering if this is possible on the current CWM recovery?
I only ask because it looks a bit, well, boring.
amon ra released evo recovery yesterday, i've been whining at him for ages to provide on for dhd hopefully we will get amon ra soon

Ah brilliant. Nice to see a familiar face round here Mike BTW. You need to shout at Nathan and the other guys from VillainRom. It'd be nice to see a ROM from them.

Is there a download for the RA recovery for the slide I've been messin around with all this modding stuff since I got the phone and the only thing I haven't used is the amon_ra recovery. Can someone tell me how to use it thank you.

Not yet. The standard recovery loading clockwork as an update.zip is all we have so far.
But you can use ClockWork Rom Manager and install the recovery image for HTC Aria. It has a few more options than the normal update zip. Also clicking on Reboot into Recovery works with that recovery image and boot straight into it. Rom Manager is a paid program, but well worth the money.
Its really not that hard to root dude im 15 and i was use do the amon ra but after a while clockwork rooting is all about patience :] and it made me feel accomplished and if i remember correctly you had to change the spl for amon and that killed a few pplz g1s

Not true. The G1 bricks were caused by flashing the "danger" SPL before flashing the correct radio during the original root process. Also, the stock SPL on the G1 was read/write which allowed a custom recovery once rooted. HTC lately, for whatever reason, has decided to make their SPL's read only which is why we can't flash a recovery.
Hmmmmm yes I agree and well I guess I learned somethin new.

Went from Myn's Warm Z to CM7 to Myn's 2.2 RLS5. I can't seem to get the latest radio version to show.
After flashing 2.2 RLS5 and followed the steps below:
Downloads:
Download Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5 (Mirror 1) (Mirror 2) - [MD5sum: ba1cc1aed1d8161e3429909470bd7eb4]
As this ROM now uses the latest official HTC Kernel (#15) you MUST update your Radio/Wimax. I recommend Calkulin's combo update which is available here or via direct download here.
Installation Instructions:
Download Rom and Radio/Wimax updates and place in the root of SDCard.
Reboot into Recovery.
Perform Nandroid backup
Minimally wipe dalvik and cache. For optimal experience, perform full wipe (data/dalvik/cache).
Flash the rom first.
Then the radio/wimax update. While the radios are flashing you'll see a little green arrow phone icon for a bit afterwords, Wait on this. You will then automatically be taken back to recovery.
Once back in recovery, reboot.
Enjoy
But after following those steps exactly, I check my baseband version and it is still on 2.15.00.09.01 instead of 2.15.00.11.19
Can anyone tell me where I may have gone wrong? Or any other suggestions?
Are you using clockwork mod recovery or amon ra? I was having a similar issue using clockwork and I tried it again using amon ra and it worked...

Using clockwork... never used Amon Ra before, not familiar with it at all. I'll look into and see what happens. Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it.
In the meantime, please reply with any other experiences or suggestions.

I also suggest using Amon RA recovery. Make the switch, and then try flashing the radio update again.

I loved clockwork but amon was easier.

i third that. i used clockwork just because it came with my root method (unrevoked) but after having edify issues i flashed to amon ra and havent looked back since. for some reason clockwork complicates something as easy as flashing a simple zip file where as amon ra just makes flashing a simple zip file easy.
Amon Ra is so much better IMO. I got nothin against CWM, but Amon Ra has been flawless for me.
Just for the sake of information. I flashed using that exact same method, using CWM, and everything went off w/o a hitch. However, after all these Amon Ra lovers, I kinda do want to check that out.
thanks for all of the suggestions everyone.
I ended up taking your advice and using Amon RA and it worked! Thanks again.
It is worth noting that when flashing the radios with CWM, I did not see the little green phone icon as described in the instructions. Which I am assuming means that I never REALLY flashed the radios. Although it did seem to flash it, and returned to the main menu of the recovery.
Flash the rom first.
Then the radio/wimax update. While the radios are flashing you'll see a little green arrow phone icon for a bit afterwords, Wait on this. You will then automatically be taken back to recovery.
Once back in recovery, reboot.
Only difference with Amon RA's was that after flashing the radio zip from the sd card, it instructed me to reboot in order to continue the installation of the radio zip.
Anyway, it worked, and thanks to everyone who replied.
Glad you got your issue resolved. I see your kinda new here. Proper forum protocol is to physically click the "Thanks" button for the people that helped you. Just a heads up.
So I downloaded it and love it. But it won't let me access my recovery when my phone is off and I hold power and the down volume anymore. Any suggestions?

what recovery are you on?
I use clockwork. What happened was I thought I used mybackup pro to download all the apps but I think I just backed up the data. So I wanted to flash back to sprint lovers and use it to re back up the apk + data. Anyway, I just backed up the Fresh rom through clockwork and I'm pretty sure I can flash back to SL from there too, right?

Yes you can, I personally don't use clockwork but I think when running the 2.3 GB beta it might not work correctly with recovery thats not up to date. I use amon ra 2.3 it works for me; are you on clockwork 3.0?
I'm on the most updated one, so yes 3.0, I haven't tried amon ra yet but I've heard a lot of people prefer that over clockwork. I'm in the process of restoring my SL rom so I'll keep you updated. Thank you for the quick responses
No problem, yes I prefer amon ra myself but its the users choice. If you still can't get in recovery I'd say try it on amon ra for the fresh beta then go back to clockwork. Only thing about switching recoveries is that you can't restore backups from one recovery to another!
I've never booted up or flashed through clockwork so this was new to me. I've always done it the old fashioned way I guess. This is a lot easier. I've read a bit on the differences with amon ra and clockwork, but it's always better to get perspective from a user. So why did you chose amon ra over clockwork?

Lol well lets just leave it at personal preference. Its said that clockwork has trouble wiping dalvik/cache at times, and other random issues and since my g1 days back in 2008 I've always ran with amon ra. There's other reasons why I will NEVER run clockwork but I think ill keep those to myself lol. Wouldn't want to start drama around here
edit: dirty beat me to it.

clockworkmod can be controlled by rom manager, which is helpful for noobs, and is a bit cleaner, but cant read amend scripting. amend is much easier to write, and more widely known. most flashable zips are written in amend, because it's more flexable and everything. only a few big roms are written in edify. amon-ra can read both amend and edify. so it's much easier for me and other minor/learning developers to write in amend.
I apologize, that's what I meant I was doing. I'm using Rom Manager to flash. I've had my Evo since October and just rooted it about a week ago when I got my Xoom. I'm very noobish still and still learning the programs for rooting.

You'll need to turn off fast boot in the settings. When that's on, the phone doesn't completely shut off.

hahah if you do it right you will. post a question in the dev section, or without searching first, or jsut a dumb question.... here's what you get. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047664 lol
Lol, I tried a search for it and the only thread that came up was the dev one, since I just joined I couldn't post there and came here. So even if I end up with a bad experience down the road, first impression was a very good one
My first question is, why does the Incredible need two recoveries? When I came from my other phone, Amon Ra was far superior to CWM and it appears the same with the Incredible, so why do the Devs design everything to work with CWM? Next question is what's the difference? They both are suppose to do wipes, flashes, backups, restores etc etc..so why would one work when dealing with certain ROMs and the other would not?

It dosen't need two, but choice is good.
There isnt much difference. Cwm is easier to navigate, and has a few more options than amon. Also cwm is needed for rom manager which is a pretty popular app.
Both amon and cwm should work with all roms or mods, but since most devs use cwm when building their mods and roms they sugest you use it too because that way they know it should work since thats their setup. I know the fresh roms for the evo require amon ra for their updater app.
Actually CWM is prevalent over AmonRa on the Incredible...that's why devs design for that. AmonRa is there, yes, but CWM is what (at least as far as I know, I could be wrong, I don't speak for anyone but myself) most people use. Just look at signatures. Most say their recovery is CWM 3.x or 5.x.
I see what you're saying. I never had luck with Rom Manager, and I did use CWM for a while but to me Amon Ra has more options and is way faster. I would think for noobs that CWM would be better. When I first rooted my first phone I used the crap out of Rom Manager lol. Now I don't use that app. Thanks for the input though.
Hey all, thank you for reading this and hopefully you can possibly help me!
I am trying to install this on my HTC EVO 4G:
[ROM] 2.10.12 MAJOR UPDATE! New!! The Express 3.4.2 Sense 3.0 Landscape,4G!!
It will not get past the Supercharging the Express part then installing from zip in recovery.
I partitioned my SD card and lost everything So, I am somewhat irritated at this whole ordeal. I just really want a good Sense....
I hope someone can get back to me as soon as possible and help me figure out exactly how to get this thing installed on my phone
Thank you!
-Nic
Well, it's well stated in every thread about partitioning that you will lose everything and need to backup your SD Card first.
You need to use Amon Ra for recovery, do a full and proper wipe, then reflash the ROM
Nick where did you download the rom from? You may have a bad download. What recovery are you using amon or clockworkmod?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
with EVO 4G, almost every ROM works well with Amon RA,
I messaged you marcusva79. I have ClockWorkMod recovery.

The OP of the Express ROM says that you MUST use Amon_RA's recovery. Now you know why.
