Newly rooted I have a few questions....

I have just rooted my desire and flashed it with the VillainRom....
My questions are: I have enabled app2SD on most apps and thats great, but when I look at my internal memory through DiskUsage, It says I only have 157mb (Data) of space and thats taken up by the apps + system data that wont budge (adobe air etc)... Would taking off Stock apps increase this 157mb or would they too be stored in applications?
And why is there only 157mb available internal when you get 500mb?
Do widgets need to be kept on internal to stop them disappearing?
Sorry if my questions are obvious but I literally only looked into rooting a week ago so I am a proper noob!!

I also have the updating icon on virtually constantly.... is it a prob with the Rom or can this be fixed ?!

first of all do you have an ext partition? apps2sd wont work without one? also apps2sd only puts /data/app/ and the dalvik cache on your sd card, the /data/data directory remains on the device, thats why adobe air ect takes up so much space, removing stock apps wont free up any space as they are stored on the system partition, the desire dosent have 500mb of internal storage who told you that it might have 500mb of rom but thats a diff question.

Ok ignore the 500mb i don't know where i got that from lol!!! The rom has apps2sd enabled I thought thats all I needed? I am still having trouble fitting on all my apps !!
If I was to put a new rom on there can I just delete the zip after and delete the folder containing the old rom? Is titanium sufficient to use as back up if I was to put on a new rom ?! ---- Forget that just done nandroid backup just to be safe! Is the back up stored in clockworkmod?

if you pressing the move to sd option, in manage applications, thats not apps2sd , thats just the crappy move to sd option on froyo..... you need to partition your sd card with an ext 2/3/4 partition to enjoy apps2sd+ i assume the nandroid backup image is stored on you sd card .....

Nandroid backup stored on SD?? Is it under backup in the rom file or is it actually called nandroid?? I backed up through recovery ...
Man i need to do some reading lol.. thanks for helping... ill partition through rom manager once i know if I've backed up properly!!

ive never used a nandroid or any other kind of backup in my life lol i really should learn tho because its a pain setting up my rom everytime i flash

Your backups are stored under sdcard/clockworkmod/backup

sd card partition?

so, i put a partition on my sd card for the specific purpose of apps2sd. I went from cm6 to slidemeroot5r1. how do I access the apps that i had saved on my sd card? they don't show up on the phone after i flashed the new rom.
I'm probably overlooking something simple, but any help would be appreciated

Umm, you can't. At least I don't think so since your phone can't see that partition unless you tell it to. I would just restore from a nandroid backup and use titanium backup to backup the apps then when you install the rom you want just restore the apps with titanium.

Assuming you wiped when you went from CM6 to SLIDEMEROOT5r1, all your apps would have been wiped as well including, if you have it, your ext partition on your sdcard. That's why you should always use a backup app like Titanium.

[Q] Want to set up Apps2sd but....

I'm wanting to setup apps2sd on my phone but not sure if I'll be able to reinstall all my apps afterwards?
I'm running Defrost 2.9b, haven't updated the rom for months and months, it's served me well but there's some little annoyances that have made me want to try new roms. My version of Defrost had an option to automatically install all apps to external storage, so just about everything except system apps etc are already on my sd card, and I've backed up everything I want to keep with Titanium backup.
Now, if I do the following:-
1. backup all contents of my sd card to pc
2. format memory card ready for apps2sd
3. flash new rom / kernel
4. restore my apps with titanium backup
Will apps2sd automatically move everything to the apps partition, or should I move my apps back to the phone and make new backups?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm new to this and very confused by it all, I only ever flashed it once, that's the rom I'm using now and that was months ago! Any help is much appreciated.

[Q] Best way to increase phone memory?

Hi there, a bit newbie to the Wildfire S that I bought to my girlfriend. I pretty familiar with CM7 for my HTC Aria, but not with stock roms.
The Wildfire S is rooted and runs a stock ROM with Hebrew support. that's the way is was bought from the store.
We've only installed gmail and maybe another app, and you are left with only 30MB of space? is that the way HTC designed this phone?
I want to increase the phone memory and use the SD-card. If I create a SD-ext of 1GB, what is the best method to move apps and cache to the card?

Just do factory reset first, then you'll have about 150mb of memory free.
And yes, you can delete system apps if you are rooted.But be aware not to delete some important apps which can cause your phone not to fuction properly.
As for the extra memory, I would recommend link2sd, I'm using it, and I have 100 apps installed.
You could also use data2sd, but you need sdcard class 4+ for that, in order for it not to lag too much.

correct, deleting system apps is possible if rooted
however these are on the system partition, so will not increase phone memory.

your internal phone memory still 150M，but apps can move to sdcard，I think the best way is data2sd .

I've already did a factory reset once and I didn't got 150MB of free internal memory it was much lower, that's why I was puzzled to see how quick the memory disappeared. If I had 150MB free I wouldn't have any problem cause I don't need too many apps on this phone.
Is it better to create sd-ext with ROM manager and than use link2sd?

after root I recommend SystemCleanup APP to update factory default Google apps in system (save over 40Mb of space). It's easier than link2sd

seems like a great app, tried it on my phone not the wildfire and had a few FC. but eventually managed to do everything.
No problem on the wildfire stock ROM? phone is rooted.

I'm using link2sd on a rooted stock ROM. No problems, works great, 30MB internal free, tens of apps installed/linked to the SD Card.

no problem whatsoever, just DO NOT move to system updated HTC apps (for example Clock widget). Those will stop working. FC for moved Google apps are normal until you reboot the phone.

I don't intended to do so. Just wondering if there is still something left on the phone or that's' what's left with Stock ROM installed.

If I remember correctly, I used to have 4x MB.

120MB, well I should check it in depth.

I just did a factory reset and wiped data completely. I've only got 62.6MB free in my data folder.
SD Maid tell me that (used/total)
system folder 199/269
internal data 87/150
any ideas how to check what's clogging the data folder?

bit strange that you have so much space used after factory reset
i find 'diskusage' app very useful to visually see what it is taking up space in each partition.

if I'm using this correctly, then on the data folder the dalvik cache is in charge for about 74 MB. that's after factory reset and 5 apps installed.

If it is rooted then install Link 2 SD. Delete some useless system apps and move apps like facebook, youtube etc to SD card..

If you're on stock rom rooted, link2sd is better than remove some stock apps.
If you're on custom rom or stock rom with custom kernel support init.d, you can use DT Apps2sd to move dalvik-cache. I think its better than link2sd.
Or/and if you have sdcard class 10, you might use data2sd.

If I were to have LINK2SD and foldermount installed and having some apps running from both internal and external and a couple of symlinks going on.
Then I decide to backup up using TWRP and install a new rom on there. What happens to the apps and folders on the external? Do they stay there or get deleted? Are they then useful or useless?
Now if I were to go and restore the backup nandroid, do things go back into place? Would the thing get recovered to the SD card again?
How about if Titanium backup goes into the equation?
Sorry for any confusion but I'm really confused right now

Backup and restore do not touch your internal or external SDcard. So your files, apps, and folders remain untouched.

Don't know link2sd, but nandroid doesn't touch anything on sdcards. Might have to reestablish links, but probably not. Try it, won't harm anything.

So long as you don't delete any of the data on the external card, then you should be fine. I've been using it this way on my phone for nearly 2yrs.
But my phone is jellybean based so you need to test it out if you are on a kitkat based rom.
**edit to add.. Thought I better add that I don't use foldermount or titanium.
My SD card is partitioned to have an ext4 partition for link2sd and a swap partition and Ofc the main partition.
I've just realised that you don't mention a partition for link2sd. Are you aware that you have to have a partition on your card for link2sd?

I am aware i have to partition it for LINK2SD but I've no idea what the swap partition is for. I'm guessing if link2sd works then foldermount should too.
So what if this: i move my apps using link2sd then back up the nandroid. Then use a different rom and copy everything on my sd as it is to my computer. Then after i'm done with the rom, i restore and copy the stuff back onto the SD. Should that work? Or would the link be broken?

So long as the data is intact, then you should * be fine. The link would be broken but generally you can just recreate the link. I think at one point I was running 4 backed up roms (2 roms and 2 pared down versions for benching) I would switch back and forth daily as I was a tester for 2 devs.
The Swap partition is just for low memory devices. It actually has no bearing on the subject. Just me waffling sorry
As I said earlier, you should make a nandroid before you make any alterations and then add each app/process and back that up too. Then test each change.

You wouldn't a way that lets you remove TWRP and use the stock recovery would you?
Also a method to unroot so i can send it back to the store for any fixing?
And lastly how do I install the stock rom if i used any other rom? (Besides restoring the nandroid back)
So basically how do i unroot, install stock recovery and reinstall stock rom? For the v500

I link my app data and obb to the ext4 partion in my sd card using link2sd, also I backup my ROM using TWRP
So, if I restore will link2sd be able to link the app datas automatically?

I was try 2 metode restore nandroid with use link2sd..first i try to reformat ext4 partition before restore nandroid and the results of all applications that are already on the link gone..second I try to directly restore applications without reformatting the results are not lost but their application after the reboot error and application error ended up missing. it looks like the system ext4/link broken..so I must to clean flashing rom from the start otherwise the system will error. So if u want to backup nandroid u must unlink or move back to internal first for safety and reformat ext4 partition before u link app again
