Hey guys, my friend is new to flashing, but he has successfully flashed the OMGB v6 Gingerbread ROM. A couple of "essential" apps do not work (I told him so -_-) and now he wants to go 2.2 Vanilla. Is it Okay to flash a 2.2 after wiping 2.3 via CWM? any tips?
Just wipe data/cache and dalvik cache. Should be good to go after that. Just create a nandroid backup first.

I have a full 2.1 stock image, but not stock 2.2. I would like that though. Let me know if the 2.1 will help.
Couldn't I just flash the 2.2 rom from shippedroms.com? That's the stock froyo rom right?

rmk40 has uploaded the Froyo stock ROMs both deodexed and otherwise..
Search for the thread "[ROM] Incredible Sense/Froyo v3.21.605.1 *Official Release* (100% Stock, Rooted)"
But if I flash that will I be able to flash other roms? I thought you had to do a full wipe before you flash a new rom...

Sure, but you'll lose root. Just wait until a developer cooks gingerbread into your favorite ROM.

You should always wipe when flashing a new ROM. Just back up all your apps with titanium backup or mybackup pro. Your contacts should be back up'd by Google.
No. well you can use apps like Titanium Backup, that you can use to backup any apps and their data, but other than that, you just need to sign back in to e-mail and gmail and fb,twitter, ect...
Use your Nandroid

If you're fully rooted with recovery, reboot your phone while holding the volume down button and you should be in either the Amon-Ra or Clockworkmod recovery.
From there explore your menus a bit, and you'll find a place to do a Nandroid backup.
Do that - it will literally back up everything - your kernel, your stock ROM, your apps, your data, all to a nandroid image file on your SDCard.
Then you can wipe everything in your recovery and flash whatever you want.
Now you can play with other ROMS, learn to flash alternatives and such, and if you ever need/want to go back to how it was, just go back into recovery and choose a Nandroid restore.
Also if you use clockwork nand you can restore your apps after youve changed the rom. Flash your current rom first, then wipe everything the new rom needs you to. After flashing the new rom to the nandroid and select advanced restore. Select data and your done. Reboot and enjoy.

If your going to back up your rom to flash another one use RA recovery to wipe and backup your phone. Clockworkmod does not do a proper wipe of your phone and will leave remnants of your old rom on your phone.

I havent had any issues and I flash almost once a week. To each its own.

I lost u guys . Lol ;-)
I'm new to this & not sure exactly how to do it .
I rooted my Evo with UnrEVOked 3
& using the stock 2.2 Froyo Rom
I followed the rooting process from a YouTube video & I did back up during the root process .
I'm not sure what's a nandroid & I think I had to go through some part that had clockwork mod but again as I said I'm not sure what it is . ( I'm sill a rookie with this sorry )
What should I do next ? Did I back up the stock Rom properly via UnrEVOked 3 rooting method ?

Ok this might be a stupid question but I didn't find an answer when searching. I am running the Ginger Villain 1.8 rom version on my G2 phone but no matter how many rom updates I install my "Mod Version" always says GingerVillain1.4. Shouldn't it change with each update I install? Also my Android version never changes from 2.3.1 but i see other threads with pics showing 2.3.2 and 2.3.3.
Maybe try and do a fresh flash. Wipe and all that jazz?

Thanks for the reply. I tried multiple flashes that but still never changes from gingervillain 1.4. I always wipe data, cache partition and dalvik before every new rom install. 1.4 was the 1st rom i ever flashed so i don't know if that has something to do with it or what. I'm going to flash Xboarder56 v1.9 tonight and see how that goes but i'd still like to know why my Team Villain roms mod version stays the same
Do i need to wipe first before installing a new ROM?, I have Virtuous Unity 1.31.3 and wants to install the new version 2.35 , install via zip? or upgrade? thanks.
Pretty sure you can run the update over the previous version
They are different bases I would wipe . 1.31 is 2.3.3 and 2.3.5 is 2.3.4 I would wipe to avoid issues

As a general rule, you can flash updates of the same rom without wiping data, although you might still want to wipe the dalvik vm and system caches. If you get lots of force closes, you might have to try wiping data though.
The Dev will typically tell you whether you'll need to do a full wipe in that ROM's development thread.

Search xda and research about android and common root knowledge.
It's always your choice. I normally wipe.

Always a good idea to wipe data and cache every time.

What are you looking to do?
If you are wanting to flash a new rom then download the rom of your choice. Boot to recovery, wipe everything except sdcard. Data, cache, davlik cache, boot, system, android-secure and wipe sd-ext if your card is partitioned.
Then flash the rom from the sdcard. Once finished, reboot phone.
